What a shame the passage of time facilitates forgetting those who went before us, those who deserve to be remembered forever, but who are not. Father William Doyle is one of those people. Father Doyle lived a Christ-like life in the midst of incredible horror. He hid his fear, trusted in God and Our Blessed Mother to decide his fate, and sacrificed constantly to ensure his men had every opportunity to confess their sins and receive Holy Communion. He gave them General Absolution before they moved to the Front as he knew they would likely die. He gave Extreme Unction to thousands of wounded or dying soldiers to ensure salvation of their immortal souls. His love of God and Our Blessed Mother was like that of a child who trusts he will be protected no matter the danger, yet, he was willing to die if it was God’s wish. Many of Father Doyle’s heroic actions on the battlefield are documented in this booklet. He is a real “action hero”—a man of courage, strength, love, and compassion.
