I’m writing this blog whilst quarantined for almost 8 weeks due to Covid-19. Like, many other people all over the world, I’m staying at home with my husband and 2 kids, protecting our lives and others. It’s a confusing time for all and whilst the world feels apocalyptic right now, I’m trying to remain positive and upbeat given our daily challenges at home. Challenges such as homeschooling, (kids would rather play than do school work), finding the time to run an online business, cooking, cleaning and more. And be restricted to only our little space outside our home for some physical activity. And on top of that, I’ve felt the need to do every baking and art activity with the kids that I’ve really run myself ragged. Are you struggling in your business because you HATE sales? You know that you’ve got mad skills and that your purpose DEMANDS that you get out there and start making a difference in your peoples’ lives. And because your business is about more than just $10k months or the bikini laptop lifestyle, it’s important to you that you show up with full integrity. The problem? Although you’ve invested in multiple trainings, none of the ways you’ve been taught to sell—and especially all you’ve learned about overcoming objections — feel good to you. You know you need to sign clients. Otherwise, you’re headed right back to punching a clock in corporate hell. But instead of feeling excited when someone books a discovery call, you feel kinda queasy. You remember some of your experiences being sold to and it didn’t feel good. You can’t stand the thought of doing that to someone who is coming to you for help! I get it. I’ve been there. I took FOUR big group sales courses ($14k in investments, YIKES!) before I found one that had a sales system that I mostly agreed with. And although that system was a pretty good fit, there were still elements I had to tweak to make it completely aligned for me. This is a massive topic with lots of nuance. But to get you started, I’m going to share Six Pillars of Highly Ethical Sales that will sign great clients without any sleaze!


HERE'S HOW:

BE HONEST ABOUT INVITING SOMEONE TO A SALES CALL WITH YOU

Don’t pretend to just be having a friendly chat or invite them for market research when you’re actually planning to pitch to them. Misleading people will automatically put them on the defensive. And since you came complete with a high-integrity conscience, you’ll feel crappy about the deceit and likely sabotage the sale.

LISTEN TO YOUR PROSPECT

Don’t ask leading questions. Ask open-ended ones that allow them to answer from their truth. Listen to their answers and make sure you understand their CURRENT SITUATION and their DESIRED OUTCOMES. Don’t get so lost in your own thoughts about how you’re going to convert them that you don’t even know if they are a good fit.


EVALUATE THEM HONESTLY

MANAGE THEIR EXPECTATIONS

If it’s not a good fit, TELL THEM. Offer to refer them to someone who will actually be able to help them or send them some free resources. If they are a great fit for what you do and you KNOW that you can help them, tell them with how your offer will benefit them. Don’t be pushy, just tell them in no uncertain terms that you’ve got the solution they need. Then let them decide for themselves. If they are interested but have concerns, you can absolutely coach them to discover what’s underneath their concerns. This is where most business coaches talk about “overcoming objections.” Ew. Instead of bulldozing over their concerns, get extra curious and ask PERMISSION to delve further. Challenge and support them, but don’t manipulate. If they aren’t fully willing, they won’t get the results.

Give them a real break-down of what it will be like to work with you. Let them know what they will have to do to get results. And don’t overpromise results. Be real about what they can expect if they show up 100% for themselves.

CHARGE THEM

I used to think this was a bullshit sales tactic, but I’ve been shocked to find that it’s true for me as a client: charging a PREMIUM RATE actually helps your client to get better results. Don’t charge more than you think you can deliver but give them a price point that scares them a bit. It will inspire both of you to show up like gangbusters and bring out a new level of awesomeness neither of you have accessed before. This leads me to…

COACH THEM LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON THEM GETTING THEIR TRANSFORMATION

Ask yourself— hell, ask your new client, too — HOW DO I DELIVER SO POWERFULLY THAT THIS PERSON’S LIFE IS CHANGED FOREVER?? This doesn’t mean over-give. This simply means to have this mindset and always be aware of showing up as your best self to provide value for this person’s growth and success. By following these six guidelines, you can instantly start to feel better about your sales calls. You’ll feel more confident which will set your clients more at ease. They will instantly see how you’re different from so many providers out there. Your practice will become a guiltfree money machine, allowing you to expand your reach and get busy doing what you’re here to do!

Always Put Money Back Into Your Business From Day One Early on in my business, I had those dreams of making $5,000 a month and leaving my 9-5 job. Realistically, I thought this was going to happy within three to six months.I didn’t account for my living expenses when I was dreaming of this. I didn’t account for maybe even saving for retirement or the health insurances. I didn’t account for actually running my business either. The first thing we see right out of the gate is if we want success, we need to invest in our learning. I did just that. Right away, I joined a group business coaching program and then quickly after invested in hiring a business coach. After hiring that business coach, I signed my first four clients within two months of working together. I had some great early success. My goal with this money I was making was to pay off my debt so it would help me leave my job and then I wouldn’t have to worry about anything else, right? Nope. This is not the way to do it. What I learned was a huge lesson and hopefully you will learn also. Everything you make in your business early on, put that right back into your business. I made my investment back quickly from the money I spent on a coach. I ended up taking the leftover money and paying off credit cards with it, but also taking money out to celebrate each client (as in expensive dinners with my husband!.

Because of my early success, I wanted more and more and more. I wanted “systems” set up. I wanted automation. I wanted to launch programs. I invested in another coach, and ended up not making any money back and didn’t sign anymore client for a six-month span. My business was back down to zero; zero clients and zero cash, where I started. I didn’t manage my money right and didn’t use my momentum right either. I was money hungry and so desperately wanting to pay off my credit card debt so I could leave a soul-sucking 9-5 job I have had for far too long. I felt desperate; I knew I was desperate and stressed. It ended up coming out in my content too (people can feel the desperation!). My money story has been healed over a year later and I’m in a great position. This was the biggest lesson for me to understand when building a business of this magnitude; you should be using most of your profits to invest in more help. I don’t always mean keep hiring for learning purposes; I mean hire a virtual assistant, hire a website designer, or hire people who are going to help build your business! I was sick in wanting to invest in the wrong things; and put my profits in the wrong spots. The best thing to do is keep investing in your business until you are making so much that you have an actual profit and you can pay yourself. I do believe in celebrating though; a glass of wine won’t hurt!

TOP TIPS FOR LUSCIOUS LIPS BY ELISE MCDONALD So many ladies come to me looking for a new lip colour with the caveat - NOT a red as I could never get away with a red lip – oh girl, how wrong could you be?! Because ladies – let me tell you - we can ALL rock a red lip. And when you find the right shade, trust me when I say that you will be wondering why you haven’t been wearing it all your life! Because not only will it give you that instant hollywood glam - there is also something so empowering about wearing a bright coloured lipstick – so stop playing safe and be bold! Choose your weapon - how to select the perfect bold shade… You skintone is key – do you have warm or cool undertones? If you’re not sure, look in the mirror when you’re not wearing any make up, and look at whether you have any yellow/olive tones to your skin? If so, you have a warm skintone. If you find pink or red tones, then you have a cool skintone. If you don’t have either, you have a neutral skintone. If you still can’t decide, take a look at the veins on the underside of your wrist in natural light. If they appear blue, you have cool-toned skin, if they appear green, you have warmtoned skin. If you have both, then you have a neutral skintone and the world is your oyster – go forth and be bold with any colour you like! Red is for danger!! – if you have warm undertones opt for a warm red with orange tones. For cool undertones or pale skin , go for a true red, like a cherry or warm raspberry.

Sultry and smouldering – If you are going dark, burgundies and maroons are perfect for warm skin tones; deep plums, reds and berries look fantastic on darker skin tones, while oxblood and wine shades suit those with paler skin or cool undertones. Purple haze - Deep purple shades look amazing on darker skin, while rich pink/lilacs and fuchsias are perfect for even the palest skintones - and actually make your complexion look warmer. Pretty in pink – mauves and hot pinks complement paler/cool skin types. But avoid baby pink shades which can make you look really drained of colour! For warm tones, choose a pink with an orange hue – coral tones or peachy pinks are perfect. Of course, this is just a guide - it’s always best to test - and play around with colours! And if you colour your hair, this also plays a part in what looks best - which is why I always use the Beauty Room at https://bit.ly/3gsvP0S so that I can try before I buy and avoid any clashing disasters! No more testing on your arm (which really doesn’t work!), just upload a picture and it pops the lip colour on so that you can see how it looks! So you’ve got your colour sorted - but bolder shades can be a little trickier to apply as mistakes show up waaaaay more – but never fear – just follow my quick top tips to ensure that your finished look is more Coco Chanel than Coco the Clown!


EXFOLIATE

Before wearing a bold shade – always exfoliate your lips. I use Younique’s Lip Exfoliator which is infused with shea butter and sugar crystals to buff away dry skin and gently moisturise. If you don’t have an exfoliator, LIGHTLY rub your lips with a toothbrush, then apply a thin layer of lip balm and blot your lips before applying your lip product.

LINE YOUR LIPS

Using a lip liner will help to keep the lip colour ‘in the lines’ – preventing bleeding and smudging. Choose a close match to your lipstick for the best finish. A slightly lighter shade will still work, although it can make your lips look smaller - but avoid using a darker shade as it will give you that dated Spice Girls look which belongs in the 90s only! LOL.

PERFECT YOUR POUT

Use your lip liner to mark an X on your top lip at the cupids bow – then line the rest of your lips. This will enhance the shape – or create one if you don’t have a natural line - and will give you the perfect pout.

LESS IS MORE

Less is more Apply your lip product sparingly – use a lip brush to apply a thin layer, then blot with a tissue and keep building the colour until you have the desired finish. This will help avoid smudging and will make your luscious lips last much longer!

Blot blot blot After applying, blot your lips with a thin layer of tissue, then keeping the tissue in place, use a powder brush and apply a dusting of setting powder over the top of the tissue. It sounds crazy, but this DOES really make your lips last longer!

TIDY UP!

If you don’t have a steady hand and find yourself colouring outside the lines, just pop a dot of concealer on the back of your hand and using a lip liner or eyeliner brush, trace along your lip line with the concealer. This really does emphasise your lips and cover any mistakes along the way!



NO DEFINE SHAPE/LIP LINE?

Apply a thin layer of concealer over your lips to ‘reveal’ your true lip shape - and then use this as a guide to gently outline your natural lip line. Smudge away any concealer outside of the liner with a small brush to blend it into your skin. This will help emphasise your lips too!

LIPSTICK STILL GEATHERING/BLEEDING?

Apply a small amount of face primer around your mouth before applying lipstick, or try outlining your lips with translucent powder using a cotton bud or concealer with a lip brush. Whichever way you choose, they all act as a barrier to stop your lipstick ‘spreading’!

SMALL LIPS?

Apply one shade of colour all over your lips, then apply a slightly lighter one in the same colour family to the middle part of lips to create a bigger pout. Make sure you blend the colours together with your finger so it doesn’t look odd! Adding clear gloss to the middle of your top and bottom lip after your lipstick will also give you a perkier pout.

LIPSTICK ON YOUR TEETH?

Put your finger in mouth and make an O shape with your lips. Remove your finger and voila – any excess lipstick will be on your finger – not your teeth!

COLOUR NOT LOOKING RIGHT?

If you have dark lips or they have a natural pink/red tone, this can affect the finished look. Apply a thin layer of concealer to your lips first – this will not only neutralise the tones to give a truer colour – but also gives your lippy extra staying power! Hope that has helped ladies! And the list goes on and on when it comes to making THE SELL! Offering the solution that your ideal clients are looking to help you solve, because that's what you are doing after all... Offering a service that will help them with some sort of transformation. Why do we make this simple process so complicate it for ourselves? Doubts, blocks, fears... Most entrepreneurs face when it comes to making that SALE, the fact that it is theirs, makes the sale more personal and therefore, scary for most.

Why can we be like the clerk who sold us the shoes?!

The truth is that little that we know, probably these souls have been waiting for some divine intervention to give them the push they needed to finally start their own business. They have been hopefully waiting for the “right” moment to invest in themselves, their passion, their dreams… Why would we take that away from them? To give them something they need!


Why are we so afraid of selling? I have been running an online business for over 2 years now, doing all the things, blogs, posts, freebies, podcast, online magazine, collaborations; you name it, I was there, I did it. Was I getting any results? Yes, my online presence and business was growing. Was I making any money? Nope, not at all... Why? Iwas too scared of doing the ONE thing that would make my business a real business, SELLING! After all, isn’t that the point of every business?! I was so scared of offering my services, I kept telling myself the same story over and over again…But it wasn’t out of fear of being rejected, oh no, I had heard the word NO in my life so many times that I wasn’t kind immune to it at this stage… What really scared me instead, was someone actuallysaying YES to me… How crazy is that! Isn’t that what we all want as entrepreneurs after all!!! Of course, but for some reason the thought of someone actually saying YES to me, scared me even more…

That would mean I had to deliver. I had to get the job done. I had to help my client like my life depended on it… And that is a ton of responsibility, don’t you agree? “What if I don’t have what it takes?” “What if I CAN’T really be helpful and useful for someone else?” Then I remembered that I do what I do, not for me. I stopped being afraid of the YES. It took a while, but I got there… I put my ego on the side, remind myself that this business is not about me, I am already doing what I love. What I do is for those beautiful souls I can help. For the people who are going through something I have gone through and I made it the other side, and they know that...That’s why they trust me and want to work with me, because I have something that can help them transform their lives. And isn't that what most of us are looking for? This business is about helping those who are still looking at what they want to do with their lives, to find their passion, to follow their dreams. This is for them! What I do is for them!


Can you recall why did you hire your first, second, third coach/mentor? There’s always someone different to help you throughout the stages of your journey, someone to lead you, to grab your hand and show you the way… Wanting the change! Wanting the transformation! So when you start having doubts; when you start thinking that you know what your ideal client is going to say before you even ask them; when you hear that NO in your own head; when you are afraid of scaring them away. RE-ENGINEER YOUR THINKING The mind can become a busy highway of thoughts, information, and memories. Gaining control of what travels along the neural pathways is key. If you want true freedom from the grips of mind’s trickery that can keep you in a mental cage, take time to stop. FREEDOM: the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. Imagine you have everything you want, and all your needs are provided for. Wouldn’t that be a weight off your shoulders? If your mind is screaming YES, then, it is time to take a serious look at what is causing you not to have the freedom you desire. Let’s look at the Power of Thought. I am providing you with the exercise below to help you understand everything in life is about choice, which begins with a thought. The process goes like this: you are in the moment and nothing is happening, until….a thought pops in your head. Along with the thought there are attachments, which may include memories, emotions, feelings and/or triggers. Once these start on the information highway, you will be making decisions and taking action based on what your mind has presented to you.

Close your eyes. Settle into your body and relax all your muscles, including your mental muscles. Take a breath in slowly for 3-4 seconds, breathe out slowly for a count of 5. Repeat for a total of 3 times breath in and breath out. Focus your attention to the outer world and make note of what you experience/hear. Then focus your attention inwardly and make note of what you experience/hear. Do this back and forth three times. After the third time, take another slow breath in and out. Sit in this silence, space for as long as you can up to 15-30 seconds. You want to not have any thoughts, just BE. Enjoy the peace and silence. Now, open your mind and allow a thought or word to surface. Whatever the word is, just notice it, do not attach to it. Then let it go. Allow another thought or word to surface. Again, just notice it and let it go. The final thought when it surfaces you can allow yourself to process it. Notice your feelings or emotions, any thoughts of people, places or things showing up? What is your first inclination as far as action or do you not feel any need to act? Once this last thought settles, you can breathe in and out for the final time. Slowly get up, stretch if you like, then do a quiet activity

You may want to journal the experience and thoughts that arise. The purpose of this exercise is to train the mind and re-engineer thoughts, so you learn to respond vs. react. This opens you up now to allow more productive thinking that will lead to pro-active actions.

Now she’s looking at a choice. Does she want to ditch her corporate life to go running after him, hoping they can rekindle whatever it was? Ditch the corporate life and head to Alaska to work on a fishing boat, in a wild ‘do something completely different’ kind of way? Or stick with the corporate? Decisions, decisions. Initially, she ditched her corporate job and got one on a fishing boat. She was super excited, couldn’t wait to head north. Didn’t want to wait the 3 weeks until the boat left harbor.\ I heard later that she decided against the Alaskan adventure to chase after the guy. It didn’t work, but she was looking to find a retreat, spend some time on herself afterwards . Guys, there’s a lot of info out there, and when it comes to relationships, most experts agree you really need to figure yourself out first. You don’t leave your personal troubles at the door. Instead, they tend to get a whole lot worse.

WHEREVER YOU GO, THERE YOU ARE We’ve all done it. We’ve all gone to a new location, thinking that this time – this time – would be the time when things are different. This would be the place that would make me magically change. But it doesn’t. That’s the simplest explanation for the phrase. Until you make some changes within yourself, you will remain the same person, make the same mistakes. Over and over, until you finally change what you’re doing. It doesn’t matter how pretty the location is, how far it is from home, you are still you.

It really started with my own journey...I was overweight, unhappy and borderline depressed and with consistency and tools that work, I was able to get myself to this space...one where I was finally creating my own reality, one where I was the healthiest, happiest and most aligned I'd ever been in my life. In an instant I felt the desire to help women of all walks of life achieve the same. I believe that in order to achieve true bliss, one must find balance; mind, body & spirit.

WE ALL HAVE A BREAKING POINT IN OUR LIVES THAT MAKES US REASSES AND THINK ONCE AGAIN IF THE LIFE WE ARE LIVING IS REALLY ENOUGH FOR US ... IN YOUR CASE, WHAT WAS IT? Looking at myself in the mirror one day, so unhappy with the reflection looking back at me. Feeling as though I didn't recognize the woman staring back at me. In that moment I had to choose who I was going to be for ME...and in turn what I was going to be modeling for my 3 impressionable children. That's when I decided there had to be something different.

My journey began with health and fitness...I came to find on my own journey that it wasn't about the weight I wanted to lose, it was about the woman I wanted to become. It was about me remembering who I came here to be. What truly got me to this space I'm in now wasn't my weight loss journey, but it was truly the inner work that I did. The personal development yes, but my spiritual journey has tied everything together. It's allowed me to fully step into who I am without fear, without guilt nor shame. It's allowed me to know and trust that I am always divinely guided and that all is happening FOR me in every single moment of my life.

YOU HAVE 3 CHILDREN, ALL HOMESCHOOLED... HOW DO YOU JUGGLE/MANAGE FAMILY AND RUNNING A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS LIKE YOURS? I've decided that I was no longer available for the old excuse of "I don't have time"! I manipulate time! haha. I've gotten support where I need it, because I'm not superwoman and I don't need to be. I've found that creating routines has been a huge help in managing everything.

YOU HAVE WRITTEN YOUR FIRST BOOK THIS YEAR. HOW DOES THAT FEEL?

My children, at a young age, understand the value of being healthy and happy. They see me do the things that I do and they get to decide what they want to do. All three of my children know how to nourish their bodies well and they all enjoy movement (most of the time :) )

So freaking good! It's really crazy because at the beginning of 2020 I put it out to the Universe that I would publish my first book...I didn't know how or when but I trusted that all would fall into place as it should...and it did!

My middle daughter meditates on a pretty regular basis. I'll catch them using breathing techniques every now and again. It's the little things. The fact that they know that they are capable of anything they desire for me is huge. The fact that they stand up for themselves and make their voices heard is another incredible thing.

WHAT IS IT CALLED AND WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

I don't want them to do what I do, I want them to do what makes them feel good. It not about showing them my way, it's about they really finding their own. If they choose to use some of the tools that I do, great!

AND WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR BIGGEST WINS SO FAR?

It's called Daily Affirmations for your mind, body & soul. It's an affirmation a day and a journal prompt to help women dive deep into who they are and how they get to be more of themselves.

TO THE WOMEN WHO ARE READING THIS NOW WHO'D LIKE TO START LIVING A LIFE MORE MEANINGFUL AND FULFILLED, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE WITH THEM? Never give up and always trust that you are exactly where you need to be in this moment. Believe that you can shift at any given moment if you choose to do so. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF JEN My morning routine is my non negotiable. Before my feet hit the ground,I have done my spiritual hygiene, mini meditation, & gratitude practice. I journal with coffee and then I get my workout in (30-40 minutes). This all happens before the kids are out of bed! This is my me time and the way I get to start my day in the right mindset. Then I get to work on different projects, client calls, taking care of our other businesses and spending time with my children. My nighttime routine usually consists of yoga, family time, cooking with the kiddos and whatever else brings us joy. That morning routine is what always sets me up for success. It gets me out of my head and into my body before my day begins. That way I am prepared for anything that may be thrown my way!

Stand firm with conviction. Show up for your life, be bold but stay humble. Build the confidence that merits acknowledgment, particularly from you!

It isn’t necessary to hide behind a Once upon a time, there was comfort in playing the understudy. Giving anyone else the spotlight whether, friend, foe or love interest was the logical choice. In my mind, someone else was always more deserving of the attention. There was significant discomfort in letting people see me. Acquiring the right relationships in your life can be a daunting task when you don’t know who you are or where you stand. Shuffling through dozens of people while you find the best ones for your circle demands effort. There are personalities that will inhale your air, leaving you breathless. They drain the energy around you, at times fooling you into taking a backseat. You end up living behind a curtain where no one can learn about your gifts. Long ago, I too played the role of Cyrano de Bergerac. Letting others steal the show was easier than allowing me to be visible. The risk of my fear being discovered (that I might not be good enough) was frightful. Existing in anyone’s shadow is living in fear. You are not fully living if you’re not being yourself. It takes courage to show the world outside a genuine sense of who you are. Anyone can have an opinion but no one has the authority to tell you how to carry out your truth. Shadows overpower you when you are not strong enough to step into the light. Consider what is possible. Imagine what can happen if you take a dare. Envision yourself walking into those shoes.

relationship, job or anything else to obstruct others’ view of you. Some people focus their energy on finding someone to like and spend their free time. Although, there is nothing wrong with the desire for company. It is crucial to invest in yourself. The realization of the significance of this exercise came to me after a breakup of a long-term relationship. Single and in emotional disarray, I was forced to learn how to hang out alone. It’s how the idea of dating myself was born – after the dating pool dried up. I took myself out on dates to get familiar with the woman. It was the best thing that happened during this period. It helped me understand quirks, fears, and insecurities but more importantly, it ultimately got me to embrace and appreciate all there was to me. Freeing yourself from the shadows is scary. Everyone has skeletons they would prefer remain in a closet but always usually has a way of manifesting itself. It takes incredible effort to allow oneself to be seen, but even more to remain obscure. Make yourself comfortable at home first before you let others visit. If you love yourself most, the external world will have no alternative other than to accept you. It comes down to self-love. Create a love so immense that it cannot be overshadowed. Let your light shine. Once you tap into this energy source, nothing can hold you back! Words by

HOW TO CULTIVATE COURAGE IN THE FACE OF FEAR When I was 5 years old, I discovered cookies. I started eating a lot of them to calm my fears (it didn’t work). When I was 13, I discovered alcohol. I used whiskey and beer in place of sugar to calm my fears (those didn’t work either). What were my fears I wanted to quiet? I was afraid of getting into trouble with my parents, bullies, not being able to sleep…I was mostly Just fearful of people in general. From an early age, I did not get my emotional needs met. I learned I was supposed to behave perfectly and not show any negative emotion. Ever. I became an overgiving people pleaser. I had no idea what self-love was, and I never stood up for myself. I was bullied by other kids physically and emotionally. Back then, I wondered why the bullies chose me to terrorize. Now I know those bullies spotted me immediately – I had little self-esteem and oozed self-doubt. I also had a ton of compassion and empathy for everyone (and every animal and insect!) I came into contact with. I was a perfect target.

Reading this, you may be wondering – Why didn’t you ask a trusted adult for help with the bullies? This might be hard to understand, but I was ashamed of being bullied. On some level, I thought if I shared what kids were doing to me, then everyone would know that I was a horrible person. Because I believed there was something profoundly wrong with me that I was Being treated that way. I didn’t have clarity back then like I do now. I knew things weren’t right, but it was all so murky; I Felt lost and alone. By the time I was five, I’d already learned to “power on through.” Fear simply became a way of life. I learned how to get through a lot of experiences by just doing Them (not a necessarily bad skill to have). Growing up, I was never searching for a permanent solution; I was simply trying to endure.. So I drank more alcohol and went further inside myself with my secret of shame for who I was.

I did team sports (hated all of them) and took every single athletic class my mom could sign me up for (she wanted to cure my “shyness”). I also had a few amazing friends. I got into a good college and then got my Master’s degree.I finally started going to therapy because I knew there was something off in my life. I was getting tired of hiding my misery. But I was still drinking every chance I got – as much as I could – because it was the only way I learned to cope.

THE UNIVERSE SHOOK ME AWAKE

Then it happened: When I was 26, the Universe woke me up. The best way I can explain it is that the teacher appeared when the student was ready.And my blinders were removed. I saw for the first time that I’d completely lost myself in fear. When you let your life be run by fear, there’s no way you can get the courage you need to be the successful person deep down that you dream of being.

I didn’t want to be a fraud anymore, I didn’t want to go on pretending I had my life together, I no longer wanted to live a double life. I wanted to achieve my real dreams. I wanted to be whole. I wanted to find me and be me. I decided then and there that fear was no longer going to rule my life.

Of course, success over my fears didn’t happen overnight. I found an incredible therapist, devoted myself to 12-step groups, read a ton of self-help books, did every free course on the planet, and did what anyone who had the life I wanted suggested I do. I returned to school to get my doctorate in psychology. I learned how to help people who struggled like I did. I became the person for them that I needed way back when. And I eventually became a good psychologist. Because I knew what it was like to struggle. Easy to write in a few sentences but “success” for me included: getting and staying sober. finding and being my true self. developing social skills (I had no idea how to make small talk). learning how to be in healthy relationships

However, looking back, I was leading a double life:My mom wanted me to do well in school and find a rewarding hobby, so I got straight A’s, I was a cheerleader, and I was in a professional ballet company in high school.


Each one of these was a lifetime journey that I’m still on.

A GOOD PLACE TO START

If you relate to any of this and you feel it’s murky on where to start, here are a few suggestions: learn your boundaries – what you no longer want to tolerate . learn how to say ‘no’ and be assertive. start a regular routine of self-care in the morning and evening. The more you work on yourself and connect with a higher power and people on your same path, the more your fears will dissolve. The roller coaster ride of creating your own selfesteem – the tears, the fears, the joy, the victories – starts to level out, and you’ll look back on each passing year and be amazed at your progress. Delving into working on yourself, committing to your success (however YOU define it), going after your dreams – it’s totally worth it. And it keeps getting better and better.

A CONSTELLATION OF SCARS BY BETH DELONG

My radiation was put on hold for two days. Two days further behind schedule because my radiation marks had shifted and warped. Rather than a thin, straight line so my doctor could pinpoint my treatment down to the millimeter, I had a pudgy, drunken curve covered in the gooey remnants of tape. I was using various oils to help protect my skin from the dreaded radiation burn. Calendula oil, organic aloe, and lavender essential oil diluted in coconut oil. It was a process that took a half hour or more as I gave time for each layer to soak into my skin before adding the next. A half hour of running around the house topless between applications, making coffee, checking email, letting the dogs outside and praying my neighbor wasn’t in his backyard when I opened the door and my uniboob swung out. It’s a fine line to walk when using oils or creams to help soothe radiated skin during treatment. Not enough moisturizers and my skin dries out and hurts; too much and I’ve messed up the alignment marks.

''THOSE SCARS MEAN I'VE SURVIVED'' Not surprisingly, Sharpie lines protected by tape are no match for oil, not even the heavy duty medical tape. And though I had reduced the amount of oil used and only applied the regimen once a day instead of twice, the radiation team was regularly reminding me to be careful not to get oil near my marks and mess them up. Spoiler alert: I messed them up. I mean let’s be honest, Sharpie and tape are not an impenetrable force field. They’re GOING to be messed up, guaranteed. I do agree that often the best solution is the simplest, and one could argue that Sharpie is the simplest solution in outlining a treatment area. But I still get a chuckle out of the idea that we have this incredible medical technology packed into a machine that literally SPINS around you (it’s seriously the coolest thing to watch), all for the humble price of $3 MILLION … and yet we’re outlining this machine’s target area with a $1.25 marker and protecting it with a little circle of tape.

Because my marks were so messed up, it was back to the drawing board with another CT scan and another radiation plan. It’s a process that takes a couple days. A couple days of no treatment. I was frustrated, to say the least. But I was given an alternative: my alignment marks could be tattooed on next time. In an effort to preserve the Sharpie marks for the week between the recent CT scan and the tattoos, I reduced my usage of oils and moisturizers further. I didn’t want to postpone treatment again by messing up these new marks! But in the first three days of only applying moisturizers once a day instead of three times a day, my skin started to break out in a rash – a precursor to radiation burn caused by friction against the skin. Whether it was the reduction in oils or just the cumulative effect of radiation treatments, my skin was starting to show signs of irritation.


Before beginning radiation, I had read on social media about the marks being tattooed. I knew it was a thing, I just didn’t know it was a thing at my local hospital. Maybe my doctor hadn’t mentioned it before because so many people, perhaps especially women, are concerned about permanent marks or scars. There are products and articles all over the place about how to minimize the appearance of scars, and medical scars especially seem to have a bad rap. After all, synonyms for the word “scar” include words like blemish and disfigurement, which gives us the impression that scars are something to hide or be ashamed of.

I’m not opposed to new scars or marks at all. In fact, after my lymphadenectomy I was rather proud of the fact that I’d have matching armpit scars – the right arm counterpart being from a rib resection related to thoracic outlet syndrome. (I swear there was a time when I was healthy! I used to hardly ever need medical attention. But apparently my warranty expired when I turned 30.…)

I call nonsense.

I’m not concerned about having more scars or marks on my body. Heck, gimme a whole mess of em! Especially when I found out they only looked like freckles. That’s it? Just dots? Well then shoot, put all the dots you want on me. After treatment I’ll go to the tattoo shop down the road and have all my radiation dots turned into flowers – petite little flowers that show life blossoming out of my damaged radiated skin.

A few years back I read the novel Little Bee by Chris Cleave. Admittedly I wasn’t a huge fan of the book overall (to each her own), but I friggin’ loved the quote about scars.

I ask you right here please to agree with me that a scar is never ugly. That is what the scar makers want us to think. But you and I, we must make an agreement to defy them. We must see all scars as beauty. Okay? This will be our secret. Because take it from me, a scar does not form on the dying. A scar means, I survived.

I wish I had known from the beginning that tattoos were an option. I wish I had been given the choice of having my marks done in Sharpie or with tattooed ink. I totally would have opted for the tattoos. Besides, dudes like inked girls, right?

I’ll have a constellation of scars. And those scars mean that I’ve survived.

Art From The Heart - Intuitive Spiritual Artist Maggie, at what age did you create your first piece of art? And what was it? I was creative my whole life. I remember when I was a little girl, I loved colouring books and drawing Disney characters. My very first journey with oils started on my 18' birthday when I received a set of oil paints from my friends. In that time I couldn't afford canvases so I have painted on piece of wood. I used to love paint still life or flowers, one of my very first pieces was a tea pot with lemon and my sister still has it in her kitchen ;)

My dream in one point was to combine my creativity and become architect. This never happened because i was Rejected from this uni twice. Sometimes life pushes us in the right directions and that is what happened to me. I try to get to art uni and i have completed 5 years there finishing with a Master Degree in Fine Art. The journey to become a professional artist wasn't easy especially in that point I moved to Uk and started completely new life here. Now, after 14 years, looking back, I wouldn't change the thing.

Where did your passion for art originates from? Did you always know this is what you wanted to do?

Maggie, you have a very unique style of painting, what inspires you the most?

Well, I am not sure where it originates. I haven't got nay artists in my family, not even back in the past. Yes, creativity was always big part of my life but as nature lover I wanted be a florist when I was very little. Then the colouring books started and I knew I love art by then. I have never thought I will be an artist as such. The stigma of starving artist was so strong where I grew up, in Poland.

Thank you very much. I believe everything inspires us in life we just don't see it being busy with everything else. I love nature and long walks always inspire me to create but as i paint differently now, strait from my heart, I stopped waiting for inspirations. I meditate a lot, especially before I paint, and I let everything flow throughout me. This was not easy process to learn.

To fully let go of what i will paint, how, what colours etc. I sometimes know before hand being inspired by situation or colours i saw but I try to let this go before i paint and fully surrender to what will come out from me.

I'm always been curious about this... What does it go through your head when you are painting/creating art? So this question is fully related to the previous one. I don't have anything in my head when I paint. I know it sounds weird but this is the way i have discovered for myself when i fully let my heart to guide me to paint. My head is calm and almost switched off while i paint. I sometimes even don't remember when and how I paint. This way of painting was a big challenge for me at first but when I discovered what can actually come out from me, i worked very hard to train myself to fully trust the creative process. This was the best discovery for my art progress and my art itself.

(This is a bit of a personal question, feel free to omit if if you prefer)... What was your biggest struggle/obstacle whilst following your passion as an artist? And how did you overcome it? What helped you the most? My biggest obstacle was to trust myself, believe I can create something magnificent and know how good enough i am. Many of us, not only artist, don't follow their dreams because they don't believe, they don't think they are good enough. I think this comes from our childhood,school system and much more. I started to work on myself for many years now, working withs spiritual coach, meditating a lot, focusing on my breath, being grateful for simple things in life these are the best way to train yourself to be enough and go for something you have dreamed off. The spiritual and metal health for me is even more important then physical one. We are all energy and everything is being created from energy, so to fully embrace our own potencial is the key in my opinion.

Maggie, what would you like to share with people who'd like to pursue their passion as an artist? Any tips you could give them?

The first thing is to NEVER GIVE UP & TRUST YOUR GUTS. It is so easy to give up after a while. We look at others, compare ourselves and see how not good enough we are - which isn't true. One of my dear friends artist who sells her art very well, said to me ones to not worry about selling, numbers etc but just create, do what I love to do the most - paint special pieces and make this world more beautiful and more peaceful. She was so right. When we change our attention to different things the outcome changes to. I am massive fan of dr Joe Dispeza and he is a great example of how much you can change in life while you work on your own energy. So, if someone is thinking to pursue their passion as an artist - just do it and fully believe in it, in yourself and your talent. Don't compare yourself to others. Main thing I have learnt over these 2 years is to paint whatever feels like to paint and not say that this art is better then other. Many pieces which i simply didn't like that much sold quicker then i though. Everyone is different, we are so unique and every single human on this planet likes different things. So, don't compare yourself or what you created. Follow your heart always and if this is your real passion nothing, I mean nothing can stop you. And if you will find yourself in the position of jugging go back to your heart, that is the best place to create your future.

CELERY: Contains impressive amounts of vitamin C which is great for our immunune system and k, good for general bone & heart health, as well as folate and potassium. Juicing: There are many health benefits of drinking freshly juiced fruits and vegetables, and it’s a great way to add nutrients from the fruits or vegetables that you normally wouldn’t eat. Fruit and vegetable juices retain most of of the vitamins, minerals and plant chemicals (phytonutrients) that would be found in the whole versions of those foods. These nutrients can help protect against cardiovascular disease, cancer and various inflammatory diseases, like rheumatoid arthritis. Valuable compounds called flavonoids and anthocyanins are abundant in a variety of fruits and vegetables and guard against oxidative cellular damage, which comes from everyday cellular maintenance and is exacerbated by exposure to chemicals and pollution. By using special blades, most juicers chop up your fruits or vegetables into tiny pieces and spins them in a way to separate the juice from the pulp, which eliminates the majority of the fiber. The secret to success is mindset. Simple, right? But it really is just a simple shift in your thinking. Nothing shifted in my outer world until there was a shift in my inner world. THEN the universe manifested my reality. So I’ve learned that happiness really IS an inside job!

A few years ago I was little Miss Comfort Zone! My multiple fears paralysed me from moving forward in my life, plus it was easier and felt safer to play small and be the victim of circumstances, rather than take any responsibility for my life. For nearly ten years I stayed in a soul-destroying job, my health was the worst it had ever been and I had a serious car accident, but I went straight back to work – because it was ‘safe’.

My personal self-development journey really began when Oprah came to Australia in December 2015. Oprah quoted William Ernest Henley who said;

“I am the Master of my fate. I am the Captain of my soul.” Hearing Oprah speak those words struck me like a bolt of lightning - I realised I needed to have a conversation with myself around accountability. I had been playing the victim my whole life, blaming others and circumstances for why I wasn’t happy with my life. I finally realised no-one can change my life circumstances but me. What were my deepest emotions and feelings around change? Was I really willing to step up and change my life? Was I ready to own my own mistakes? I really questioned what were my core beliefs about myself and who was I really?

I am just me. There is power in that statement because I realised I am perfect just the way I am. It was time for me to just own it!

In order to create my ideal life, I first had to learn what that actually means to me as an individual, which took a lot of internal work. I joined a meditation group, read self-development books, watched webinars and enrolled in courses. I learned that manifesting your ideal life begins with knowing exactly what you want and truly believing you can achieve this. There is no room for self-doubt, because your subconscious mind can’t tell the difference between reality and your imagination. Then take intentional steps towards your ideal life. Your thoughts become your reality, so really, truly believe in yourself and the rest will follow. When you start taking responsibility for your own life and begin acting with thoughtful intention, you also begin taking fate into your own hands. I now start each morning and set my intention for the day with a short visualisation meditation. I created a beautiful gold vision board that included all my big goals and dreams and focus daily on that also. Once my inner world changed, my outer world followed. With the use of nutrition and herbal medicines, I slowly recovered from long-term adrenal fatigue, thyroid and hormonal disorders. I also changed my diet completely and finally shed the many kilos of excess weight I was hiding under. I left my old ‘comfort zone’ job, established my own business and now spend my days working with men and women, helping them be their best selves. I just love my life now and feel like my soul is lit up inside. Only in hindsight can I see how good things happened when I got out of my own way, stepped out of my comfort zone and let my light shine. It was scary but worth the journey…I’ve become the Master of my fate and the Captain of my soul!
