Animal cruelty act leaves community stunned by Darci Semeschuk It was the worst thing she had ever seen and the family is still in shock over the incident. Brandy Jensen came home from an outing to discover that someone had trespassed into her home and beat her dog. “They came in while we were out,” she explained . “We came home and knew immediately something had happened because of the smell. When I found the Bruiser I called the RCMP.” Jensen’s small Dachshund, Bruiser had been kennelled in her bedroom. Whoever committed this terrible crime removed him from her bedroom, and a box of clothes hangers that had sat on top of the kennel was knocked over. Bruiser was found locked in his kennel, in her one-year-old son’s nursery beside the crib and next to feces and a puddle of blood. Blood was also on her son’s play mat. “I don’t know what kind of sick person does that,” Jensen said. “Beating an animal alone is one thing, but dragging him ... in front of my son’s crib to do it has to be the most inhumane thing that I’ve ever heard of in my life.” Bruiser’s pillow inside his kennel was drenched in urine and blood. To one side of the kennel was a bloody bug net, and a hair brush covered in blood and what appeared to be pieces of Bruiser’s scalp. Jensen’s friends, Mandy Wark and Gloria Little started a Go Fund Me donation page and to date $3775.00 have been donated to cover Bruiser’s medical expenses. Bruiser was taken to the Grand Valley Animal Clinic in Brandon and will required extended care. It’s believed that Bruiser was beaten with the hairbrush found beside his kennel. According to a report in the Brandon Sun. The vet determined that the dog was hit with a blunt object in the side of his head, bursting blood vessels in his eyes and (Continued on Page 3)

(Continued from Page 1) hurting his jaw. Bruiser was missing fur from his ears and neck. One of his ears was sliced, likely from the bristles of the brush. His fur was crusted with blood. The vet also believed that Bruiser was kicked in the neck, rupturing veins and causing a softball-sized lump on the side of his throat. Bruiser will recover, physically but Jensen is unsure if he’ll ever be the same again. She also has grave concerns for her children who were left traumatized by the incident. A reward is being offered for any information on who is responsible for this crime.

Just call 204-483-3990, the day before, and book yourself in for a tasty meal and good company to enjoy while you are there enjoying a good home cooked meal. I went on a train ride to visit friends and relatives in BC and what a ride, it was. What beautiful scenery to enjoy along the way. We have beauty right here at home too, but this was so different with the many mountains and trees. Wow! I missed everyone here but enjoyed a little break and had a great visit when I arrived, then got a car and drove to Vancouver from Kamloops and back to Chase, and picked some beautiful red cherries off a tree in their backyard, and oh, they were so tasty. But I am back home now and back at work, and very happy to be here. We try every third Wednesday to get enough people to ride the HandiVan to Brandon for an outing for a few hours to visit with your friends for coffee or lunch and to get things you cannot purchase here in Town. Call the office at 204-483-3106 for more
information and to get your name on the list to go. Join us at VPL for these fun things to do: Monday and Wednesday. 10:00 a.m., fun exercises; Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., fun Bingo, and Friday, 1:30 p.m., fun games. Thursdays, 10:00 a.m., at Crescent Manor, fun exercises. Starting in July Cory Friessen will be playing the piano and entertaining us at VPL every Tuesday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Come and join us for an hour of great entertainment. A collection will be taken. Summer is here and remember if there is anything that we at S.O.S. can help you with or a place you would like to go for an outing, please call and let us know and we will do our best to make it happen. If you are in hospital or at home and would like us to come for a visit, please just call us and we would love to come and see you, or drop by the office anytime. That’s all for this week. Take care and we hope to hear from you soon.

Breaktime by Darci Semeschuk Souris fireworks - Beverley Mahood - Ryan Keown. What do these three things have in common? Read on: Fireworks are set to go off, pardon the pun, on Tuesday, June 30, at dusk. It is sure to be an amazing display as the Souris fireworks usually are. According to Mayor Darryl Jackson, there will be music in the bowl prior to the fireworks. I know everyone is excited to see Beverley Mahood when she is in Souris for her concert on Friday, July 10. As always, Souris is a ‘last minute’ town and there are still lots of tickets available. As a convenience Darryl Jackson and Jackie Kirkup will be set up on the Crescent prior to the fireworks selling tickets. Bring your cash or cheques for tickets to see Beverley Mahood and Ryan Keown on July 10. Tickets are only $35, so make sure you don’t wait too long and miss out! Fireworks are very frightening for animals. Here is some pet advise for fireworks day: Keep dogs and cats inside when fireworks are being let off. Close all windows and doors, draw the curtains, turn on a TV or radio, not too loud in order to block out some of the noise of the fireworks. Ensure dogs are wearing a collar and tag. Don’t tie your dog up outside while fireworks are being let off, ie, outside a shop while you pop inside or leave it in the garden or in your car. Never take your dog to a fireworks display. ********** David Ogilvy was an English advertising executive widely revered as a founding father of modern advertising (and founder of one of its most famous agencies.) You may never have heard of him but you have certainly heard of the products that he helped ‘get on the map’ so to speak. His ad campaign for Dove soap made in the best selling soap in the USA. Additionally he marketed RollsRoyce, Schweppes, Shell just to name a few. He is credited with the following: ‘If you ever find a man who is better than you are - hire him. If necessary, pay him more than you would pay yourself.’’ (1968 paper on principles of management.) He is also reputed to have once presented each of his board of directors with a set of Russian dolls. When they opened the dolls, the smallest had a piece of folded paper inside on which Ogilvy had written: ‘If you always hire people who are smaller than you, we shall become a company of dwarfs. If, on the other hand, you always hire people who are bigger than you, we shall become a company of giants.’ David Ogilvy was a ‘giant’ because he followed his mantra. After his death in 1999, Ogilvy remains one of the most famous names in advertising and is considered one of its dominant thinkers. Imagine how successful one could be, whether it’s a school division, a municipality or an independent business if they put their egos aside and followed Ogilvy’s advise.
by Vern May
The 9 to 5 grind by Vern May I can only imagine what was going through his mind. From day to day he didn’t know what to expect when he started his work day. Maybe I’d turn up with a black eye or bandaged forehead, or maybe my hair bleached platinum blonde. Then, just when he thought he’d seen it all, he flipped the paper open one morning to see me featured as Winnipeg Sun’s “Sunshine Boy”. Chris Rarick was my boss for four years as I juggled an active wrestling career and a full-time assignment as a member of the security department at the University of Winnipeg. It was a time when the local wrestling scene was hopping and I’d be wrestling somewhere in the city two or three nights per week, plus picking up dates on the road. I think it amused him, actually. When I was featured as the Sunshine Boy, he collaborated with one of my co-workers to blow up the image to life-size and take it around to all of the staff on campus and have it signed by ladies in almost every department. He could hardly stifle his laughter when this autographed mural was presented to me at the start of my next rotation. I worked hard and was always looking for more to do on shift, so Chris was pretty accommodating, even when I’d sometimes have to vacate shifts on little notice. There was no calling in sick falsely because my visibility in the local papers meant that any lie would be easily discovered. Eventually, though as my ring career was about to go national, we had to face the facts - my lengthy departures were becoming too disruptive at home. Making one of the biggest gambles ever, I was left no choice but to resign from the U of W and to sink or swim on my own in the wrestling game. It would be hard to find a job with a boss that would be as understanding and supportive as Chris had been. After 18 months on the road, solely earning a living through wrestling, I was back in the job hunt. Not everyone would understand or support what I needed to do. There were other employers that represented a complicated juggle of expectations. In one job, the senior administration was intrigued by my wrestling career and coordinated an official press release to the local media to celebrate my ranking in the Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine Top 500 listing and the publication of my book. Almost immediately following though, they scolded me about which career path needed to be my focus. Now retired from the ring, it’s much easier that my wrestling past is a mere curiosity for the media. Among my colleagues in the workplace now, I am assessed only on the insight and energy that I bring to the table and not whether (because I’m a wrestler) I belong in the conversation. Looking back now as someone who has managed personnel, hired, and fired staff, I don’t know that I would have held on to an employee like I was during my wrestling days. Realizing that, I appreciate Chris Rarick even more for being as supportive as he could to this prairie kid with his eyes focused on the stars. Thank you, Chris.

Souris benefits from Hometown Manitoba grants submitted Many communities across the province will be sprucing up main street areas and other public places with support from the Hometown Manitoba grant program, Agriculture, Food and Rural Development Minister Ron Kostyshyn announced today. “We’re investing in 101 projects to beautify and restore main street areas and public places, such as parks, recreation centres and museums,â€? said Minister Kostyshyn. “These beautification projects are a source of great pride for communities, and can also help increase the value of homes and attract more business investment.â€? The Hometown Manitoba program provides annual funding in three categories: •Hometown Meeting Places supports community projects that enhance main street areas and public places like parks, museums and recreation centres; • Hometown Main Streets Enhancements focus on upgrading the appearance of building exteriors and outdoor spaces in main street areas; and • Hometown Tree Planting supports greening projects for towns and municipalities including parks, golf courses and entrances to communities. Non-profit community organizations, municipalities and northern community councils or co-operatives are able to apply for these grants. Small businesses are also eligible for Hometown Main Streets Enhancements. This year, the Manitoba government will distribute $225,000 to 101 projects including these Souris recipients:Corner Closet, Arbuckle Electric, Home Farmer’s Resto, Kirkup Agencies Limited, Meighen Haddad, Minary Homestyle Bakery; Plum Creek Clothing, Souris District Heritage Club Inc. for storefront renovations, Souris Glenwood Memorial Complex for signage, Teddy Bear Daycare for Main Street green space upgrades; The Guest Room, Woodfire Deli. Since Hometown Manitoba was launched in 2004, the Manitoba government has invested more than $4 million in support of 2,339 projects. *254<*7.3, +&72*78 ` Ag in Motion brings innovation to the field ALL FARMERS KNOW DECISIONS are made in the field. Imagine a place, an event, created to empower farmers by providing the information they need to make these important decisions. A place where they can see the latest equipment in action, in the field – operating in the same environment it’s made for. A place where farmers can see multiple varieties of live crop plots growing side by side in the field. This summer, such a place will exist. Introducing Ag in Motion, Western Canada’s newest and only outdoor farm expo. Debuting July 21 to 23, on a half-section (320 acres) near Saskatoon, SK, it’s the only show that provides an outdoor venue for progressive farmers in Western Canada that want to see and experience the latest agricultural innovation, all in one place. Ag in Motion will feature field equipment demonstrations, live crop plots and interactive exhibits such as “ride and drivesâ€? and smaller equipment demos. “Ag in Motion will offer farmers a unique opportunity to compare crop plots and machinery, in action, and ultimately help them make decisions about the best products for their operations,â€? says Show Director Rob O’Connor. “There’s nowhere else in Western Canada where farmers can actually see multiple pieces of farm equipment in operation, take a test drive, or compare different crop varieties all in one place.â€? What does an outdoor show look like? The Ag in Motion team brings together the expertise of seasoned farm show organizers.
The Expo is operated by Glacier FarmMedia, who owns Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show, the country’s largest outdoor farm show held annually near Woodstock, Ontario. Also part of Glacier FarmMedia are Western Producer, Manitoba Co-operator, Grainews, Country Guide, Canadian Cattlemen, Alberta Farmer Express and AgDealer. The team knows what’s involved in delivering an outdoor show, and the potential such a venue provides. Now in its 22nd year, Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show delivers 750 exhibitors and 42,000 visitors each year. Most attendees come to see the newest technologies in agriculture. Its success is based on the fact that active farmers attend to do business – make decisions – and the show is dedicated solely to agricultural products, equipment and services.
Ag in Motion is applying the same model and will become a must-see event by showcasing cutting-edge agricultural advancements that empower Canadian farmers to help meet their goals in producing high quality, safe food in a competitive marketplace. To learn more about how an outdoor show looks and operates, view the videos on the Ag in Motion website, www.aginmotion.ca. Live Demos and Interactive Exhibits The number of Ag in Motion exhibitors is growing steadily each week and includes seed and crop protection companies, field equipment and livestock handling manufacturers, financial services, nutrition, baling products, tires, fertilizers and much more.

Library Corner By Alexis MacLean
The three books I have for you this week range from very serious but very good, through adventuresome and good, to … well.. Ií m not sure how to cate gorise it, except that whatever it was, it was poor. The Book of Aron, by Jim Shepard, made me laugh with the very first line: “ My mother and father named me Aron but my father said they should have named me ‘What Have You Done’, and my uncle told everyone they should have called me ‘What Were You Thinking’. ” There followed other lines which also pro voked smiles but that soon enough gave way to serious reflection. Moving rather quickly away from the light touch the first few pages provide, the book describes one boy’s experiences as a Jew caught in the Warsaw ghetto. Aron and a group of other young sters become adept smugglers in an effort to keep themselves and their families alive. But when this inevitably fails, Aron finds himself taken in by Janusz Korczak, a doctor who runs an orphanage. Korczak was a real per son, famous for his advocacy of childrens’ rights, who did indeed operate an orphanage in Warsaw until he, and the children, were sent to Treblinka. The book is an unsentimental and graphic depiction of the ever worsening con ditions in the ghetto: overcrowding, star vation, disease, lice, rampant crime, forced relocations, suffering and death. All of this set against and redeemed by an equally graphic description of the strength and persistence of the human spirit, and of the power of love. The Man Who Saved Henry Morgan, by Robert Hough, harkens back to good old tales of piracy, privateering, and mayhem on and off the high seas. It is the tale of Benny Wand, a young chess player/hus tler who is shipped off to Jamaica for his sins. There he joins Henry Morgan’s crew of pri vateers, serving at His Majesty’s pleasure rid ding the Caribbean of the Spanish. His apti tude at chess, and his uncanny strategic abili -
ties, bring him to the notice of the Captain, and the book relates their relationship through raids and shore time. Both Benny Wand and Henry Morgan were real people: Morgan, perhaps the most ruth less privateer on the Spanish Main; and Wand, a hustler who did serve under him and who contributed to the definitive book written about him. This tale depicts both the brutal ity of privateering and the general seediness of life between raids. There are neither heroes nor villains to the tale, though all might be said to be victims of a sort. Generally a good tale, though I found the change in Captain Morgan, toward the book’s end, rather hard to believe. Sadly, my week ended with a very unsatisfying book. The Sound of Glass, by
Karen White, was advertised as a mystery. It isn’t. If anything, it is more of a romance. I confess, I do not care for romances, but even given that, this story was weak. The structure was annoying and the characters unbelievable. Certainly the situations were. The story revolves around two women. One, recently widowed, moves from Maine to the S, Carolina home of her deceased husband. On the very day she arrives, her step-mother, a woman only a few years older than herself, whom she has never met nor even corresponded with, and whom she generally dis likes, arrives with her 10-year old son in tow, and the two basically move right on in. This is so highly unlikely as to be ridiculous. The reason behind it is obvi ous from the get-go, although apparently it is
supposed to remain a question mark until well into the novel. Throw in the deceased husband’s brother as a love inter est, a family history of domestic abuse, and a plane crash, and……. Well, it just didn’t work for me at all. Perhaps it might for you. Souris Legion Happenings by Gale Collinson
On Wednesday, June 17, our last Cribbage evening until September, we used 4 1/ 2 tables for our players. The highest score was made by Betty Devins and Joan Phillips. The second prize was taken by Marie Neilson with Betty Fitzpatrict and Viola Logan with Ken Ryckman finished in third spot. Pat Giesbrecht had the 5050 lucky ticket. We enjoyed a snack of cof fee and cookies. Our clubroom was host to 23 hopeful noisemakers on Thursday, June 18. The loudest person was Jack Rose who made three shouts. Double yells came from Viola Logan, Marie Neilson and Judy Emes. Marie’s last hol ler was on the Little House and received the pot of $30. Judy Emes is a welcome visitor from Winnipeg. By the time you read this, we will have had our last Bingo evening until September. On Friday, June 19, our meat draw was a lit tle slower. I guess because the big pot on
the Chase the Ace game was won last week. Must be something about visitors because Judy Emes collected two packages of meat. It was definitely a good night for Blair Woods. Think he put horseshoes in his pockets. Not only did he win two meat packages but he held
the lucky ticket on the 50-50 draw which was worth $52. Heard him say something about being able to win because his wife was not present. Blair also had a chance to take home the Chase the Ace pot of $249 but his luck ran out and the Ace of Spades eluded him.

Family art legacy showcased by Vern May When Kathleen Lagasse announced her intention to develop Souris as an art hub, she couldn’t have anticipated the wave of enthusiasm that she would create not only for art but within the artists that reside right here in the southwest corner of the Province. However, for those that had any doubt about the talent that exists locally, those reservations were cast aside at last weekend’s Timeless Designs Art Show & Sale. Among the dozens of artists featured in the show included a three generation art legacy of Alf Peterson, his daughter Kathy Spangler and granddaughter Katrina Spangler, who each had their masterpieces on display at the show. “My grandmother was an artist,” says Kathy Spangler. “I was always interested to try it but was never exposed to it growing up. When the opportunity came up locally to take a class, I had to try it. During my very first class I just felt ‘Oh my gosh, this is amazing.’ It’s so far removed from what I do daily. ” After her first few classes, she shared her experiences with her father Alf, himself a seasoned wood carver, and discovered that he actually had all of the supplies

FELL
Allan G. Fell passed away June 11, 2015 at the Souris Health Centre after a brief illness. He is survived by daughters; Donna Dornian and Connie (Ken) Saban, grandchildren; Shaune (Susan) Dornian, Kristine (Myles) Branconnier, Jamie Dornian, Adam (Carman) Saban, Stephen Saban and Cali Saban, great-grandchildren; Austin and Gage and his little dog Butch. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Jones) in 2002 and his sister Viola Madams. After a brief stint in the Navy as a teenager, Al began his career with Manitoba Telephone System. He was stationed in various locations but settled in Souris where he raised his family. Al retired in 1985 and he and Marg spent many winters in Arizona and Texas. During the spring and fall he also worked for Prairie Gold Fertilizer delivering anhydrous ammonia to farmerʼs fields. He made lasting friendships with his co-workers there. In later years, Allan focused his energy on his yard and the never ending battle with the pine cones and needles. His friend and neighbour, Wayne, was a great help to him hauling cones to the dump or clearing snow. The Royal Canadian Legion was of particular importance to Allan. He served as President on numerous terms. The family would like to thank the Legion Ladies and Honour Guard, and all who attended or sent flowers, cards or tributes. A graveside funeral service was held at the Souris & Glenwood Cemetery. In memory of Al, donations may be made to the Souris Hospital Palliative Care Fund c/o Prairie Mountain Health Box 10 Souris, Manitoba R0K 2C0.

OBITUARY DENBOW It is with loving thoughts and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Rita Cecile Denbow, on June 17, 2015, at the age of 83. On September 21, 1931, Rita Cecile Bertholet was born in Grande Clairiere to Laura (Marcq) and Joseph Bertholet, who had immigrated from Belgium. She was the second youngest child of twelve. As a child, Rita attended the Convent and, in later years, would reminisce fondly of her time spent there. Through her whole life, her faith continued to guide her. On August 2, 1947, Rita married Wilfred Earl Scott Denbow in Grande Clairiere. Rita, coming from a family of twelve, had no fear of marrying into the Denbow Clan of twelve, who welcomed her with open arms. Together, Mom and Dad worked on the family farm and raised their eight children. They were a team, spending countless hours milking cows and doing other chores. Rita always had a clean house, a huge garden and a pantry full of canned goods. Family was always important to Rita. Each year, on Christmas Eve, fifty or more people would gather at her home and share in amazing feasts served on real china with wine glasses and silverware. We enjoyed cut-throat gift exchanges, games and laughter, road hockey and even arm wrestling competitions. Each year, Rita would buy every one of her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids a Christmas gift and never expected anything in return. Rita always had an endless supply of baking, cookies and lemon loaves in particular, just in case company would happen to stop by. One of the most cherished gifts her grandkids have is the afghan she knitted for each one and gave to them on their high school graduation day. Being the athlete and avid sports fan that she was, Rita raised numerous successful athletes of her own and took great pride in her kidsʼ and grandkidsʼ accomplishments. In 1983, Rita and Scotty moved into Souris where Rita became quite active in the community. She was involved in a number of groups (Legion Ladies, CWA, Whitfield and Breezelawn Ladies, The Fellowship Club, and the Across the Creek Gang). Rita was employed as a nurseʼs aid at Victoria Park Lodge and loved her house in town and all of her wonderful neighbours. Rita was a caring person, who was beautiful inside and out. She was admired for her cheerfulness, her devotion to her family, her strength of character, her hardworking ethics and her sense of fun. She had a beautiful smile, with sparkly eyes and was always delighted to see you. She will be forever in our hearts and on our minds. Rita passed away peacefully at the Souris Health Centre, surrounded by family. She was predeceased by 10 siblings (Vital, Frank, Marc, Bert, Larry, Jules, Maurice, Louise, Ernestine and Marie), her infant son Wayne, husband Scott, daughter-in-law Sheryl and many members from the Denbow and Bertholet families. She is survived by her sister Ann Marie Bauche, her sisters-in-law Marie and Celina Bertholet, brother-in-law Ross Denbow and her eight children: David Denbow, Kenneth Denbow, Karen McDowell (Gary), Cameron Denbow (Wendy), Wilma Morrison (Greg), Nina Cowan (Bill), Tracy Phillips (Wes) and Rhonda Denbow (Jen Holoien). She will also be sorely missed by her eighteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Prayers were held at St. Maryʼs Catholic Church on Friday, June 19, 2015. On Saturday, June 20, 2015, funeral mass was held at St. Maryʼs Catholic Church and interment at Souris & Glenwood Cemetery. Our family would like to express our sincerest thanks to Dr. Cram and the entire staff at the Souris Health Centre for your compassionate care. Thanks also to Kowalchukʼs Funeral Home, Father Michael, the choir, St. Maryʼs CWL and Legion Ladies Aux. Thank you to all family and friends for your overwhelming support through donations, meals and baking, cards and flowers, calls, visits and other acts of kindness.
Thieves target Avalon Theatre It’s tough enough running a movie theatre in a small town as it is without worrying about thieves stealing your hard earned profits. On Sunday, June 21, thieves did just that. Someone broke into a back door and stole the float that was hidden in the building. In total close to $1,000 was stolen. If you have any information on who is responsible for this break in, call the local RCMP at 204-483-2123 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS PHOTO/DEBBIE BUTLER

Family art legacy showcased by Vern May (Continued from Page 11) about her work, her daughter Katrina, 10, became interested. When the opportunity arose for a mother-daughter class, Katrina jumped at the chance to get in front of a blank canvas and create her own art. Kathy says it was fascinating to watch her daughter create - listening to instruction, but taking her own approach to the creation in front of her. The young artist brought her painting to school to share with her classmates and is eager for another opportunity to paint again in the near future. “[Our participation] has just evolved,” says Kathy. “It inspired us to set up at home and paint one weekend. We were at it for hours.” The opportunity to display their art for the public was something that none of the family ever would have imagined and they were pleased to be able to participate in Timeless Design’s first show. The show was a success, welcoming an estimated 150 guests to admire the wares of local artists and raising $500 for the Souris food bank. Lagasse also fielded inquiries from patrons interested to attend upcoming classes and the show saw a few of the artists make some sales of their work.

Chamber busy with local events by Jackie Kirkup, President, Souris and Glenwood Chamber of Commerce I hope this note finds everyone well and geared up for the busy summer tourist season. It has been awhile since I last wrote to everyone and your local Chamber has been busy! We had a successful breakfast open Chamber meeting, with great attendance. We will try another one in the fall. I appreciate everyone that came out in the early morning! I also appreciate the attendance at our open meeting in June were we hosted Stu Olmstead speaking on behalf of the Chamber Insurance Plan as well as a presentation from the Pascar Racing that is also being held at the Souris Airport. Other business includes: Grad Bursary, attendance at Westman Tourism Awards, opening of the New Art Gallery Sisters at Heart. We are continuing to work on membership and marketing of our Chamber. Plans are well under way for Scarecrow Days and Christmas Promotion. We are still looking for a secretary, and a Chamber member to sit as a representative on the Economic Development Board. If either of these positions are of interest to you please contact me at 204-720-4562 or by email to jkirkup@kirkupagencies.ca The Chamber will not be meeting in July and August. Our next open meeting will be Thursday September 3,at the Golf Course. The next executive meeting will be on Thursday August 20, at the Golf Course or at the call of the chair. I’m personally asking each and everyone one of you to promote these events at your business establishment, I’m also encouraging all business owners to share with your employees this information so that they can be an ambassadors of information for the community and it’s many events.
Let’s make a great impression with our knowledge of local events and information! As many of you are aware that the Chamber is one of the co-sponsors of the upcoming Beverley Mahood and The Ryan Keown Band of Roblin, MB concert on Friday, July 10. Other sponsors include Souris Firefighters, Souris and Glenwood Agricultural Society, and Souris Complex. Each of these sponsors are contributing $5,000 to bring this event to Town and in turn hope to recapture their investment and a profit. This is an all ages event and tickets are $35 each. The concert will be held at the Murray Arena and tickets can be purchased at Timeless Treasures, Whitfield Drugs, Plaza Petals, Woodfire Deli, Par West Drive Inn, Souris Valley Foods, and Pembina Co-op. They can also be purchased online at www.ticketweb.ca/ (search Souris) or by personally calling myself at 204-720-4562. Get creative in your business host a draw with purchase! If you are in need of a new poster also let me know. This is a huge weekend for Souris with the Souris and Glenwood annual Fair and Rodeo. Darren Janz has been working very hard to encourage busi-
nesses and kids to join in on the parade. Prizes for all kids who decorate their bike and ride in the fair. The parade will gather at 9:30 a.m. and begin at 10:00 a.m. and follow the same route as in past years. Put your thinking caps on and let’s make this one of the best parades ever! Making the rounds Souris peacocks have never been shy when it comes to making the rounds about town and thatʼs what makes them so endearing to tourists and residents alike. You can often see them perched on the rails by Victoria Park Lodge but this is the first time one has actually stopped in at the Plaindealerʼs office to check out the local news!
