Everyone loves Santa
It’s Christmas and everyone loves Santa, right? Well not everyone. It looks like Sloane Kliever has other ideas about whose lap she sits on. Sloane attended the Christmas open house at Sadler’s Creekside Greenhouse last week and despite the fact that her two brothers, Paysen and Cruz seemed to like the entire affair, she was having none of it! This one is definitely a keeper! Merry Christmas! PHOTO/SUBMITTED

Souris RCMP News Report: By Robin Blecker Highlighted calls for service in Souris RCMP area were as follows: December 14 – Police responded to a complaint of shots fired NW of Souris. Patrols were made, but no signs of life were located in the area. December 15 – Souris RCMP responded to a 2-vehicle accident on Hwy 2. Slippery roads caused a driver to lose control and drift into oncoming traffic. Both drivers were transported to Brandon Hospital with undisclosed injuries. December 16 – Police were called to a Souris residence where a mother of three had been locked out of their apartment by her boyfriend, while the children were inside. Both parties were intoxicated. Police mediated grandma coming to stay with the mom and children and the boyfriend leaving to stay elsewhere for the night. December 16 - Blue Hills RCMP ran a check stop at the intersection of 1st St and Hwy 250 on Saturday night. Seventy vehicles were stopped, two tickets were issued: one for a prohibited lights and one for fail to produce a driver’s license. No drunk drivers. Well done, Souris! Friday FYI: Roads can be extremely and surprisingly slippery this time of year. Souris RCMP has responded to multiple accidents resulting from driving too fast for the conditions, which is contrary to HTA 95(3) with a fine of $203. Please slow down!

Dear Editor, When I decided to retire I chose Souris – it’s clean, pretty, and most people are friendly. But lately I am seeing more and more dog droppings, cigarette butts, and drink containers in public and private places. The town provided containers with dog bags in the park (2) and on the Crescent (I know the last one is
not too convenient.) Recycle and garbage containers are also available. Butt out and dispose of your stubs, and you know where drink containers go. Come on people, let’s put some effort into keeping Souris clean! Ps: you own a dog (large or small) you clean up after it! Rev. Muriel J. Gray

Seniors Organized Services by Mary Ann Carlisle
SOS (Senior’s Organized Services) is located in Victoria Park Lodge 135 3rd St. South, Souris. Our office hours are Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., phone 204-483-3106. Resource Coordinators Mary Ann Carlisle and Teenie Carlisle are happy to get your calls and will do our best to get you the help you need as soon as we can. Mary Ann Carlisle is in on Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays. Teenie is in the office on Monday and Wednesday. What a wonderful winter we have been having so far, but oh I hear we are to get colder weather and snow maybe by the weekend, which of course we expect in December. Snow for a White Christmas would be lovely. Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas this year, and hoping too that you get to spend it with family and friends. Christmas has always been one of my favorite times of the year, getting to see cousins and aunts and uncles, that we didn’t get to see too often
as they lived a ways away. Visiting with grandparents, two lived right here and two lived in Saskatchewan. As kids we would go tobogganing down our lovely town hill, or skating, just having a great time and still I see many children and adults doing the same things as we did, SOS is here to help you in any way we can, we have house-cleaners and yardworkers, drivers to help you out. A phone call to us and we will find someone to help you out just as quickly as we can. The Victoria Lifeline is also hooked up by SOS and this service will get you help seven days a week 24 hours a day with just the push of a button, call us for more details. We have fun chair exercises on Monday and Wednesday. Bingo, Wednesday afternoon, and games on Friday so call us for the times if you are interesting in joining in the fun. Thursday we have fun chair exercises at Crescent Manor too. Have a Great Christmas and we hope to hear from you soon.
Bridge results for December 12 are as follows: First: Nancy Birks and Margaret Greaves; Second: Don and Alva Doherty; Third: Elinor Birks and Keith Davison. In lieu of Christmas gifts we brought a food item or money for the Food Bank. Floor Shuffle results from December 13 are as follows: First: Ted Dooley and Alys Will; Second: Joan Dufily and Bob Arbuckle; Third: Ron Ramsey and Mary
Peterson. “500” results for December 14 are as follows: First: Lucy Ramsey and Iola Stocks; Second: Roy Douglas and Bob Arbuckle; Third: Ralph Jewell and Rom Ramsey. Our annual meting was held December 15 followed by a delicious potluck lunch. All activities resume the first week in January.

“A Christmas Carol” a holiday hit
Page 7, Souris Plaindealer, Souris, MB, December 22, 2017
submitted Souris District Arts Council’s presentation of “A Christmas Carol” was a hit with the community. It was a full house at the Avalon Theatre on December 7 for the Royal Manitoba Theatres Centre’s Rural Touring Company’s production of
“A Christmas Carol.” The very talented Rod Beattie carried the audience along on Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey as his cold-heartedness and greed vanished and he discovered the joy of caring. The carollers, the town crier, the chambermaids, and the Christmas treats all added to the
festive atmosphere. It was generally agreed that this evening was a lovely way to celebrate the season. The Souris District Arts Council wishes to thank those who attended and continue to support our efforts. In the words of Tiny Tim, “God bless us, everyone.”
