CHANGING THE GAME AND WOMEN LIVE! MEDIA By Ariel Shaw, MBA

The only way to make a true shift is to create it The landscape in the Southern Crescent or as some call it, 'South Atlanta' is changing. This change was expected as eyes and investment turned South of I-20 because land was available, real estate was cheaper, and the opportunities were ripe. It was important to establish a defined professional women entrepreneurial community, to ensure that we were ahead of this economic explosion. Establishing a network was one part, but how do you continue to tell your story--yes partnerships are good, but one must estaablish their own platform to be impactful and to control the narrative. The only way to make a true shift is to create it yourself. We are pleased to expand our platform and our reach by growing our ability to tell our story--now through our magazine and the new Women Live! TV. This is how you change the game, this is how you control the narrative. This is how Ariel Shaw, MBA is changing the game. Check out our podcast, TV, Radio, Blog and Magazine. TO RENT OR OWN LIFE INSURANCE… THAT IS THE QUESTION! by Sherry DeVouse-Dennard, State Farm Insurance As an Agent, I get this question a lot while conducting insurance wellness reviews with customers. There’s no right or wrong answer. It really depends on your individual situation and what you’re looking to accomplish for your family. The two major types of life insurances are Term and Permanent life. A term policy is very much like renting an apartment. Hinge on the word term and the meaning thereof. The Merrian-Webster definition defines term as a period of time fixed especially by law or custom. Thus, much like an apartment, you’re leasing a term life policy for a defined period of time. After that “term” has expired, you have the option to renew, typically at a higher price. There are valid reasons to have term as part of your family’s protection portfolio. For example, your income is instrumental to the wellbeing of your family and you want to ensure their standard of living doesn’t drastically change due to an untimely death. Term could provide that large umbrella of protection and serve as a financial tax-free backbone, especially during child-raising years.

“Now let’s talk about permanent whole life insurance and liken it to “owning” a home. ” Take a peek into a day

Now let’s talk about permanent whole life insurance and liken it to “owning” a home. In this example, we’ll hinge on the word “whole”. Per dictionary.com, whole definition, comprising the full quantity, amount, extent, number, etc., without diminution or exception; entire, full, or total. Therefore, whole life insurance is designed to be permanent or lasting your “whole” life. Contrary to term, you can actually own this policy and the premiums will never change as long as the policy remains in force. Long after your term policy has expired, your whole life will remain constant until the end of life. Whole life insurance provides permanent life insurance protection on a single life. Several optional riders are available to help customize the policy to address individual needs. The immediate death benefit, and over time, the guaranteed cash value and nonguaranteed dividends, helps provide financial security for the beneficiary in the form of a death benefit, and "living benefits" for the policy owner.

in the life of budding artist Stella Young, Whole Life may also be used for business and howbusiness she improves owners to address continuation her craft concerns, or provide an additional benefit for a key employee. Benefits of Whole Life Guaranteed lifetime death benefit (as long as required premiums are paid) Guaranteed level premium Guaranteed cash value that grows federal income tax-deferred Eligible to earn non-guaranteed dividends. Dividend options include; accumulate at interest, reduce the annual premium, purchase paid-up additional insurance, or be paid in cash. Death benefit generally passes tax-free to the beneficiary To learn more about other life insurance options, visit my website at www.sddinsurance or call my office at 678782-3005 for a consultation to customize your family’s protection portfolio.

PANDEMIC PANDEMONIUM By Demetria Y. Winters March of last year dealt many people a reality check. The Pandemic raged across the seas and had us not knowing what to do and how to recover. But as usual, women helped provide leadership as they have always done so that our families could hold on and survive the battle ahead of us. Women are used to shifting, pivoting, moving and grooving to adjust and adapt for the good of our loved ones. We are not only nurses, doctors, lawyers, and businesswomen to name a few positions inside and outside of our homes.. We are hope personified. As we finish out the finale of Women History Month, let’s reflect on our wins as we find new ways to communicate and connect via Zoom and other platforms. We changed our lives to create a normal atmosphere for our children socially. Corona Virus or not, we adjusted and showed our families the way by example. To all women across the globe, Happy Women’s History Month!

Entrepreneurs must find a healthy balance between growing their brand and taking care of their overall mental health well-being. Many times, women entrepreneurs deal with an immense amount of pressure. Some women entrepreneurs are balancing their leadership position; along with being the breadwinners within their homes. This kind of pressure can lead to feelings of uncertainty, stress, anxiety and even crushing depression. Below are some 5 tips to assist women entrepreneurs in making sure they maintain emotional wellness while successful operating and building their business.

1. Create an Amazing daily morning routine This routine sets the day with structure and organization for a healthy mind, body, and business. Whether you get up early or late, begin your day with positive thoughts, gratitude and happiness. Decide the night before what you’d like to accomplish the following morning and start from it. Remember, not to be control by negativity from other people through news, phones, messengers, emails, etc. Strive to create an atmosphere to promote positive vibes within your business. 2. Recognize the Benefits of Work-Life Balance. As a business owner, your phone and emails never stop. Setting a cut-off time when you’re starting to feel overwhelmed is critical to maintain your sanity. This established boundaries between work and personal life creating an opportunity for you to carve out time with your family. Balancing work and family have pay-offs for children, home relationships, and everyone’s future happiness.

3.Develop some self-care routines. Women entrepreneurs have to juggle so many roles and positions to the point it can be difficult to just slow down and take a break. Research shows that frequent breaks during the day can boost your productivity. One of the best ways that work for me is self-care. Self-care is when you choose behaviors that balance the effects of emotional and physical stressors such as exercising, eating healthy foods, getting enough sleep, practicing yoga, meditation or relaxation techniques. The first step to becoming a well-balanced entrepreneur is realizing that you’re not Superwoman and/or Wonder Woman and you need to take care of yourself. Learn to slow your life down, take a breath, and figure out a self-care practice that works best for YOU. 4.Seek inspiration from other successful women Studies show that those who are able to find an optimistic outlook through stress have a higher quality of life, from physical wellbeing to mental health. Using pivot success stories from other fellow women entrepreneur can provide some inspirations for ourselves. This can make a significant difference in women entrepreneurs’ ability to problem solve and think adaptively in their own lives and at work.

SELF AWARENESS 5.Develop more Self Awareness Some many times as women entrepreneurs, we have mastered the concept of being able to show up and perform our best work even though we may not be feeling emotionally healthy. The ability of having sincere introspection is considered a gift. Sometimes, you may need to use some self-awareness to help you figure out the next phase of your life. Seeking out counseling and/or spiritual guidance can aide in gaining a deeper insight of who you are and learning what the next phase of your life. life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.”

BALANCE Let’s strive to achieve more by implementing these 5 strategies in maintaining emotional wellness and developing a more resilient, more well-balanced women entrepreneurs. | SOUTHERN CRESCENT WOMEN MAGAZINE
