ESTABLISHED in 2019, Dursey Boat Trips offers visitors to Beara the opportunity to take in this spectacular peninsula on an exhilarating boat trip filled with stories, history and wildlife.

They currently offer two trips – the Bull Rock Trip and the recently launched Castletownbere Harbour Trip – which run seasonally from April to September.

Experience the wild beauty of the Beara Peninsula for an unforgettable adventure on board the Bull Rock Trip. In the easy company of passionate local guides, begin at Garnish Pier and journey onward for the experience of a lifetime. With the Skelligs visible in the distance, pass around the dramatic cliffs of Dursey Island, home of Ireland’s only cable car and learn of its use as a Viking slave base, the misfortunes of its Gaelic Chieftains and the mass slaughter of the islanders who were thrown into the sea by English soldiers in 1602. Cruise onward to the wave battered Cow Rock, and the Bull Rock, home to Ireland’s largest gannet colony. Travel through their distinctive natural sea arches (weather permitting) which were once considered the path to the underworld.

Hear what life was like as a courageous lighthouse keeper on the Bull Rock, which was manned between 1889 to 1991. View the remains of the cast iron lighthouse on the Calf Rock, destroyed by a great storm in 1881, and relive the dramatic rescue of its crew cowering in its broken base. Along the cruise, watch out for whales, dolphins, basking sharks, seals and otters and a dazzling array of seabirds, including gannets and puffins, which forage in these rich feeding grounds.
