very year, the U.S. government issues a list of the names that are making the biggest leaps up the popularity list. And there, among the reality TV-inspired Daleyzas and Jayceons, sprinkled in with the new-fangled Jurnees and Zayns, is a collection of vintage names that for a range of reasons have suddenly become hot. Sometimes, the inspiration is a film or television show, as with Marjorie and “Game of Thrones” or Walter and Hank from “Breaking Bad.” A name’s choice by celebrity parents can make it go from sleepy to sizzling, too, as happened with Olive after it was used for their daughter by Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen. Here, 40 vintage baby names making big leaps up the popularity list. The up number indicates how many places each name moved up the U.S. popularity list in 2013. And the second number is the name’s standing on the popularity list. Please note: Only those names in the Top 1000 are tracked.

Prince Lionheart Premium Wipes Warmer, $25.99 at Buy Buy Baby stores and Buybuybaby.com Wipes stay moist and, best of all, warm for baby’s bottom so they never have to feel uncomfortable during diaper changes. The warmer is also treated with an EPAapproved additive to discourage microorganisms from growing.

BY JOANIE COX-HENRY

When I had my first baby six months ago, I had no clue what my baby would actually need on a daily basis, other than being fed and changed. While many women register for a number of items for their baby showers, it’s almost impossible to know what baby will need until he or she arrives. I have found trial and error is the best way to come across products for baby. Here are the shining MVP’s of my nursery:

MamaRoo, $239.99-$269.99 at 4moms.com All baby swings are not created equal. The MamaRoo is in a league of its own. This posh pod looks like a spaceship and makes baby appear to feel out of this world. Baby gently floats side to side and in a variety of motions that mimic a car ride, kangaroo, tree swing, wave and rocking motion with five speeds. In addition to four soothing nature sounds, there’s capability to connect an MP3 player or iPhone so baby can rock out to your own custom soundtrack of tunes. For infants, the newborn insert, which costs $29.99, is a must-add to keep baby’s neck secure. There’s also a cool mobile attached with removable fluffy pods that can also be tossed into the washing machine for cleaning.

Rockabye Baby! albums, $11.99 for MP3 album downloads and $16.98 for CDs at Rockabyebabymusic.com The songs on these CDs are packed with soothing xylophones and bells and offer renditions of greatest hits by musical legends such as Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, The Clash, Madonna, Bob Marley, Jay-Z, The White Stripes, The Beatles, Kanye West, Green Day, Aerosmith and many others. The latest band to be immortalized in nurseries everywhere is Fleetwood Mac. It was released Feb. 10 and it features relaxing lullaby arrangements of “Rhiannon,” “Gold Dust Woman,” “Go Your Own Way” and other chart toppers. Each album also comes with a clever baby food recipe inspired by a song on the CD such as “You Make Pumpkin Fun.”

The Prima Pappa Diner by Peg-Perego, $199.99 at Buybuybaby.com.

Boon’s Naked 2-Position Collapsible Bathtub, $69.99 at Booninc.com Boon’s Naked 2-Position Collapsible Bathtub was just what my husband and I needed to bathe our newborn son in our cozy apartment. We were tight on space before our bundle of joy came along, and I was having organization stress about where we would store a tub for our little Jack. This cool-looking collapsible tub folds down flat and offers a reclining position that expands to a full-size basin as your baby grows. The tub is designed for babies from birth to 18 months, has a drain plug for fast drainage and is BPA-, phthalate- and PVC-free. The tub comes in green and white, blue and white, or pink and white. I’m amazed at how quickly this tub dries, and there’s even a hook on the top of the tub if you want to store it in a closet.

This is the ultimate high chair to see baby from his or her first bites of solid food through the toddler years. It’s conveniently on wheels for easy mobility from one part of the room to another and offers a five-point safety harness to keep baby securely in the seat. The seat reclines if baby gets tired after a meal and needs a nap, and the plush seat is easy to clean. There are seven height positions for the chair, and the dining tray is dishwasher safe. For smaller living spaces, the chair also folds for storage in a closet or the corner of a room.

Orla Kiely by Aden + Anais swaddleplus 4-pack - Elephants; $39.99 for four pack of blankets at Target stores and Target.com Swaddling really calmed my son down from the moment he was born. The nurses at Boca Regional Hospital showed me how to do it. When I got home, my sister-in-law, who is an Ob/Gyn, introduced me to the Aden + Anais swaddleplus line of lightweight blankets. These breathable blankets are a must-have for the typically balmy climate in South Florida.

Playtex Diaper Genie Elite with Carbon Filter; $31.49 at Target.com

Boppy Luxe Pillow; $50 at Boppy.com Two dear friends gifted me with this velvety soft pillow that was essential in allowing me to comfortably bottle-feed my son. The pillow, which is also a more comfortable way to breastfeed, conveniently doubles as a device to safely prop my little one up to take photos from month to month. Best of all, it’s a cinch to clean: the outer cover zips off, and you can toss it in the washing machine.

When I requested a Diaper Genie on my baby shower registry, several friends argued with me that I didn’t need it. But it’s been one of the most used and coveted items in my nursery. While I admit it took several YouTube videos to master emptying and replacing the bags in this device, I am thrilled to have this stink-sealing item next to my changing table. Now designed with an odor-absorbent carbon filter, it creates an extra barrier to prevent any smells from seeping out.

and birth as a normal process rather than a medical event. Our philosophy is to provide personalized, supportive care that allows each mother to trust in her body’s ability to give birth while providing the information she needs to make informed choices for mom and her baby.

ABOUT HOSPITAL CHARTS, LEFT AND TOP OF PAGE • The charges listed do not represent fees for obstetrician, pediatrician, lab tests, anesthesiologist and any other specialist required at birth. These are average charges, regardless of complications, and do not necessarily represent the amount you or your insurance company would pay. Be sure to discuss charges with your hospital. • The C-section rate represents the number of cesarean deliveries divided by the total number of deliveries. The same formula is used by the state of Florida to determine overall c-section rates. • Neonatal intensive care unit ratings (NICU) are determined by the level of specialization and facilities. Level 3 is the most advanced. • Most hospitals accept registered nurse midwives who are affiliated with a physician group and certified to deliver in that hospital. Check with your midwife and the hospital for details and information. • Most hospitals have a neonatologist on premise 24 hours a day. A few have the neonatologist on-call for emergencies. Check with your hospital. * Figures from last year's Baby and Maternity Guide ** Figures from FloridaHealthFinder.gov • NA indicates that figures were not available or not provided to South Florida Parenting.

Me! WinGo to ting.com

Plastic baby bottles frighten me. Like many moms in 2015, I’m worried about BPAs. The 5 Phases Hybrid Glass Baby Bottle is a healthy alternative. The design was inspired by a mother concerned about how environmental factors could affect her 1-pound, 7-ounce micro-preemie baby during feedings. This clever bottle is BPA-, PVC- and phthalate-free plastic on the outside, and it comes with a glass insert to safely hold breast milk or formula. The outer plastic sleeve makes the glass inside shatter-proof. As an added bonus, the bottles are microwave- and dishwasher-safe. $15.98-$19.98, 5phases.com

OLLIE SWADDLE

Available in a blue- or pink-striped, moisture wicking material to prevent baby from overheating, the Ollie Swaddle is a clever swaddling blanket that conveniently closes with Velcro and features an elastic loop at the bottom to tuck in baby’s feet. While the nurses at Boca Raton Regional Hospital taught me to swaddle my son, I forgot some of those skills. The Ollie Swaddle made it much simpler with easy-to-use Velcro fasteners. The stretchy fabric wraps nicely around baby’s body and makes for a better night's sleep by keeping baby swaddled and calm. $48, Shop.theollieworld.com

SHOES MADE FOR WALKING

Babies need to be able to feel the floor with their feet to learn balance and walking, but socks can be slippery. Nufoot neoprene shoes are a great solution. They are water-resistant, germ-proof, anti-microbial and machine washable. The skid-resistant soft shoes are also super comfortable and somewhat stretchy, so they last longer than traditional shoes. Nufoot shoes lie flat and can fit in a purse, bag or pocket for easy storage. $15-$18, Nufoot.com

DADDY & CO. SKINCARE

You might know Daddy & Co. for its “I’m the Daddy” line, but the company also has a baby skincare line to get your little ones clean with no harmful or toxic ingredients. Daddy’s Baby Bubble Bath, Baby Shampoo & Body Wash, Organic Talc-Free Baby Powder, and All Natural Baby Lotion are paraben- and sulfate-free, hypoallergenic and dye-free. The line even has a stamp of approval by Healthy Child Healthy World Foundation. $9.95-$12.95, daddyncompany.com
