FOUNDATION APPRENTICESHIP – FINANCIAL SERVICES (ADVISING BUSINESSES HOW TO MANAGE MONEY)
LEVEL: SCQF Level 6 COURSE DURATION Two years • Year One: June 2016 to June 2017 (apart from summer holiday). Attend South Lanarkshire College for one day or two half days (incorporating visits to and talks from employers and work placement) • Year Two: June 2017 to June 2018. Attend South Lanarkshire College one half day per week and one full day on work placement EDUCATIONAL PROGRESSION On satisfactory completion of the FA - Financial Services you could progress to an accelerated Modern Apprenticeship at SVQ 3 or onto Higher National qualifications in Financial Services or Accounting. Other options include Professional Development Awards or professional qualifications recognised by the financial services sector, depending on other results obtained at school CAREER PROGRESSION On successful completion of this award you’d be eligible for entry level financial services jobs and career progression within the financial services industry ENTRY REQUIREMENTS The FA - Financial Services is open to you if you’re in S5 with: • School verified prediction that you’re on track to achieve or have achieved at least four National 5 qualifications and are sitting or have achieved two Highers from English, Maths, Business Management, Administration & IT, Accounting or Economics • Successful performance at interview and entry test • Positive behaviour and attendance report from school
COURSE CONTENT The FA consists of the National Progression Award in Financial Services at SCQF Level 6 and mandatory units from the SVQ 3 Providing Financial Services at SCQF Level 6 The NPA in Financial Services consists of seven units: FOUR MANDATORY UNITS • Financial services: regulatory framework, an introduction • Financial services: legislation, guidelines & working relationships • Financial services: communication methods • Financial services: personal development planning OPTIONAL UNITS Plus a choice of three units from the following: • Financial services: promoting products & services • Financial services: customer service standards • Financial services: call handling • Financial services: using information & communication technology • Financial services: performance goals The SVQ 3 element consists of the following mandatory units: • Develop yourself to improve & maintain workplace competence in a financial services environment • Develop a productive working relationship in a financial services environment • Ensure you comply with regulations in the financial services environment

LEVEL: SCQF Level 6 COURSE DURATION Two years • Year One: August to June. Attend South Lanarkshire College for one day • Year Two: August to June. Attend South Lanarkshire College for one half day and one full day work placement The work placement aspect of the course is intended to provide practical understanding of working in a health and social care profession and to build skills and competency to work with health and social care professionals EDUCATIONAL PROGRESSION Successful completion of the Foundation Apprenticeship will provide a solid basis for progression onto the Modern Apprenticeship in SVQ 3 Social Services & Health Care SCQF Level 7, which is designed to qualify you as a practitioner and enable you to obtain employment at practitioner level in a range of services across the care sector CAREER PROGRESSION Successful completion of this award will help you to gain employment within the social services and health care sector at support worker level. Career progression will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory PVG check ENTRY REQUIREMENTS The FA - SVQ 2 Social Services & Healthcare is open to you if you’re in S5 with: • School verified prediction that you’re on track to achieve at least four National 5 qualifications, one of which should be English • Successful performance at interview and entry test • Positive behaviour and attendance report from school •
COURSE CONTENT Workplace experience is dependent on receipt of a satisfactory PVG check YEAR 1 • Level 6 National Progression Award (NPA) in Social Services & Healthcare. This award is subject to validation by SQA and consists of five mandatory units • MANDATORY UNITS • Social services in Scotland • Communication in care relationships • Safeguarding people • Safe practice & wellbeing in social services • Human development & social influences YEAR 2 • Level 2 SVQ Social Services & Healthcare at SCQF Level 6, which consists of four mandatory and two optional units MANDATORY UNITS • Support effective communication • Support the health & safety of yourself & individuals • Develop your own knowledge & practice • Support the safeguarding of individuals OPTIONAL UNITS Two units from the following (dependent on placement): • Support individuals in their daily living • Support individuals to eat and drink • Support individuals to take part in development activities • Support individuals to participate in recreational activities

Travel to and from the College Travel to and from work placement Core textbooks Required personal protective equipment (PPE) • Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check - applies to the SVQ 2 Social Services course only HOW TO APPLY In consultation with your Guidance Teacher you can apply for one of our exciting Foundation Apprenticeship courses at SLC. To apply please complete our application form and pass to your Guidance Teacher, who’ll make sure we receive your application. We recommend you submit your application form as early as possible and at least by the end of April if you plan to start college in June or August.
