WHAT IS ERASMUS+? Erasmus+ is an exciting European initiative that allows our students to study or work abroad as part of their HNC or HND. Studying or working abroad can enhance your skills and knowledge while giving you a wonderful travel experience and, it’s great for your CV!

WHAT CAN I DO? Traineeship Mobility Open to students studying HNC or HND. Some subject areas allow you the chance to go on a work placement as part of your HNC or HND. For further details please contact your Course Leader in the first instance. Your work placement may form part of your programme of study or it may be as an added benefit to your qualification. South Lanarkshire College traineeship mobility students go abroad for 60 days.

Study Mobility Open to students in HND year 2. Some students go on a study exchange. You’ll go to classes that are the equivalent to what you would study if you were here at SLC, so normally you’re not adding any time on to your course. The credits gained during your exchange period will be recorded on your transcripts when you graduate. You must study courses relating to your course and obtain approval for your programme of study from your department. Failure to do so may jeopardise your chances of completing your qualification. South Lanarkshire College study mobility students go abroad for 90 days.

WHERE CAN I GO? We currently have Erasmus+ partners in Belgium, Denmark, France, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and we’re working hard to build new relationships. Each department has different partnerships, so talk to us about your plans!

DO I NEED TO SPEAK ANOTHER LANGUAGE? Not necessarily. There are a number of institutions in Europe that teach classes in English. We also have a number of placement providers where English is spoken. Even if you do go to a college, university or placement where English is commonly used, it's a good idea to have some basic knowledge of the language before you go. If you’re being taught in a language other than English, you'll be required to participate in the Erasmus+ OLS as a requirement of your funding. It's a free online language course that you can take part in alongside your academic study whilst abroad.

WHAT’S THE PROCESS FOR APPLYING? Places are limited, so get your application in early

In the first instance, you’ll need to discuss the project with your Course Leader who’ll liaise with the relevant Curriculum Manager and the International Office

Complete an application form including the personal statement and provide all requested documents

The International Office will contact you about your application and have a chat with you about Erasmus+ and the opportunities available to you

A decision is then made on whether your application is accepted. You need to be aware that a placement isn’t guaranteed at this stage

The College will let you know when your mobility is confirmed and what funding you’ll receive

Before you leave we’ll complete a risk assessment and there’s a consent form for you to fill in.

MONEY STUFF You don’t pay any fees to the overseas college, university or placement provider and your tuition fees will continue to be paid to SLC while you're on exchange. If you're eligible to receive any loans or bursaries, you'll continue to be entitled to receive these whilst you’re on the exchange.
