South Lanarkshire College, City of Glasgow College and Fife College have secured funding to train you in gas installation and maintenance.

EARN £28K IN THE GAS INDUSTRY


South Lanarkshire College have, in the past 12 months, trained approximately 50 Actavo candidiates to Level 2 Diploma Smart Meter (Power) status. The programme has been hugely successful with these candidates being trained to an extremely high level. We have also employed a significant number of individuals who have gained their Gas Qualification through SLC and we have been hugely impressed with the level of competence displayed by the group. Actavo are delighted to be in partnership with South Lanarkshire College, City of Glasgow College and Fife College. We are looking forward to future projects together.

• Course delivery will be available in all three colleges • The course will run 5 days per week for 18 weeks

TO BE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR THE COURSE:

• You must have been made redundant as a result of the oil and gas downturn • You will need to produce proof of redundancy from the oil and gas industry or its supply chain • You must actively seeking employment • You must successfully pass a colour vision assessment • You must be resident in Scotland with a National Insurance number • You will require a current CV and will be subject to a PVG check • At course completion you will need to have a current UK driving licence


GAS INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE FOUNDATION (ACS) Course Units • The gas safety legislation • Gas emergency actions and procedures • Characteristics of combustion • Ventilation • Installation of pipework and fittings • Tightness testing and purging of domestic sized NG installations • Checking and/or setting meter regulators • Identification of unsafe situations and the use of emergency notices and warning labels • The operation of and positioning of emergency isolation controls and valves

• Checking and setting of appliance burner pressures and gas rates • The operation and checking of appliance gas safety devices and controls • Flueing standards • Flue testing • Installation of open, balanced and fan assisted flue assemblies • Re-establish existing gas supply and relight appliances

During the programme, candidates will be required to carry out on the job training to build up a portfolio of evidence with a gas safe registered company. This will be provided the participating College.

Progression to Gas ACS

On successful completion of the foundation assessment, candidates will be presented for ACS Assessment and Candidates will be assessed on CCN1, CEN/WAT1, MET1/2.

Job prospects

With the above qualification when proved competent, will allow candidates to register on the gas safe register (With or without an Employer) to Install, Service and Maintain Central heating boilers, Water heaters under CEN/WAT 1. MET1/2 will allow candidates to Install, Remove and Exchange Domestic Gas meters.

Potential Smart metering opportunity Candidates with this qualification can progress into The Smart Metering industry and earn a salary circa £28,000.
