Aging isn’t what it used to be. Every day I am inspired with images of women who are embracing their next stage in life.

Platforms such as Instagram have given women ‘of a certain age’ a place to showcase that life and style after age 50 can still be fun, full and vibrant.

Building a functional wardrobe that works with your current lifestyle is the way to go and versatility is a must. It’s important to have pieces that can be reworked and paired in multiple ways to keep you from getting into a style rut.

Use simple, classic, quality pieces as your foundation and then expand with a few pieces seasonally or incorporate a current trend that really captures you.

A STRIPED SHIRT1I read somewhere that stripes are a staple in every chic woman’s wardrobe and I couldn’t agree more. French women are renowned for being chic and stylish, often pictured wearing - yup you guessed it - a striped shirt!

Black A-Line Skirt2Knee length or just below works best. It’s flattering for everyone and can be worn almost everywhere. Pair it with flats for a daytime look and heels for an evening cocktail party.

LIGHTLY DISTRESSED DENIM

Yes, you can wear distressed denim at your age! One of the comments I hear all the time is from women over 50 wanting to look current; put together but not frumpy. Distressed jeans will help you achieve that balance of classy and current. When choosing your next little black dress, look for a style or cut that accentuates the features you like best. Too often I see women trying to hide their ‘trouble spots’ with shapeless pieces. Stop it! Got great legs? Wear a dress that hits just above the knee. Want to accentuate your waistline, try a fit and flare cut. A V neck will draw the eye upwards and extend the length of your neck.
