Trees and Railings You will see that the city’s contractors, Amey, have begun painting railings and pruning trees along Hurst Street this week. We should also see the lanterns coming down for a day or two while this work is completed.
Civil Works From Monday the Civil Works to make Southside Square happen will be commencing. This will initially involve a site office going up on the upper part of Hurst Street (outside the old Oceania nightclub opposite Snobs), and will be followed by initial traffic management changes relating to Dudley Street and Ladywell Walk. The city’s briefing on these works is attached at the end of this update.
Birmingham Comedy Festival The comedy festival, mainly focused around the Glee Club, kicks off this week.

Mid-Autumn Festival This year’s mid-autumn festival is preceded by a fundraising dinner at on October 5th.
The festival itself takes place from 12pm through to 7pm on Saturday 7th October and includes singing, dancing, martial arts, Lion and Dragon Dances, a Lantern Festival and Fireworks.

Road Works: Southside – Hurst Street Permanent Traffic Regulation Order Please see below details of the works that are scheduled to take place in your area. Name of location: Pershore St / Dudley St / Ladywell Walk / Hurst St and Thorp St Description of the works The scheme includes the following activities •
Permanent restriction of through traffic from Ladywell Walk to Hurst Street;

Renewing traffic signal equipment at Pershore Street/ Ladywell Walk junction, including reshaping of the central pedestrian island
•
Conversion of protected contra-flow cycle lane on Hurst Street to protected two way cycle lane with a cycle only phase at Smallbrook Queensway Junction
•
Introduction of contra-flow cycle lane on Dudley Street between Edgbaston Street and Hinckley Street
•
Installation of a mini roundabout at Dudley Street/ Edgbaston Street
•
Conversion of Dudley Street to two-way traffic between Edgbaston Street and Ladywell Walk;
•
Conversion of Ladywell Walk to two-way traffic between Wrottesley Street and Pershore Street
•
Reversal of one way flow on Thorp Street
•
Relocation of taxi / loading / parking bays
