The Benefit was AWESOME!

We would like to thank everyone who has helped us throughout the past 10 months of Laura’s illness. We thank those who coordinated, donated to, supported or attended the benefit ... Your love and support meant so much. We would also like to say thank you to everyone who made dinners for the family and looked after Jon and Karlie while Laura spent so many days in Roswell Park. We live in a great community, and we have wonderful friends and family.

BOATER’S SAFETY GUIDE AVAILABLE

Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs announces that the 2012 New York State Boater’s Guide is now available through his office. The guidebook is made possible by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. The guide provides a summary of the more important laws, registration and training requirements, as well as suggested safety information governing recreational boating within New York State. “Just like there are “rules of the road” for vehicles, there are “rules of the waterways” that govern the safe maneuvering of boats”, said Jacobs. “I encourage all recreational boaters to know the risks, learn the rules and be prepared before taking the helm this season.” The Boater’s Safety Guide is available by request. Please contact the Erie County Clerk’s Office at 716-858-7754 or e-mail ErieCountyClerkOffice@erie.gov to receive your free copy. ________

USDA FARM SERVICE AGENCY REMINDS PRODUCERS TO REPORT CROP LOSSES

Erie County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Annette Hyman, reminds producers to report crop losses resulting from a weather-related disaster event within 15 days of the disaster or when the loss first becomes apparent, this includes crops covered by crop insurance, the Noninsured Crop Disaster assistance Program (NAP) and crops without insurance coverage. “Crop losses are acres that were timely planted with the intent to harvest, but the crop failed and could not be harvested because of a disaster related condition,” said Hyman. “In order to meet FSA program eligibility requirements, producers must report crop losses to the Erie County FSA office within 15 days of the disaster occurrence or when the loss first becomes apparent,” she said. Producers who have NAP coverage will be required to report crop losses on an FSA form CCC-576- “Notice of Loss and Application for Payment Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program.” According to Hyman, it is important that producers file accurate and timely reports before the crop is destroyed to prevent the potential loss of FSA program benefits. Failed acreage reports allow the Agency to maintain an accurate record to report how many acres of each crop were destroyed by a disaster event. This information is used to determine county and state eligibility for programs like the Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) program, as well as future federal farm programs as legislated by Congress. For questions regarding crop losses, please contact the Erie County FSA office at 716-652-1400.

BURSTEIN BUZZING ABOUT INCREASED ________ MOSQUITO AWARENESS

Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein today reminded Erie County residents about the dangers of mosquitoes and West Nile Virus, following the discovery of a pool of West Nile Virus positive (WNV+) mosquitoes in Amherst. The pool, comprised os 50 specimens of Culex pipiensrestuans, was collected from a gravid trap on June 14 and is the first WNY+ mosquito pool collected in the Town of Amherst in 2012 to date. “With summer here and more people being active outdoors, it’s imperative to take steps to minimize mosquito contact with your skin and decrease the mosquito burden in your immediate area,,” said Dr. Burstein. “Use insect repellent containing at least 25% DEET (10% for children) when you can, and wear a long sleeve shirt and long pants especially during the evening hours. There are also ways to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds in your yard, including dumping out standing water, cleaning clogged gutters, and changing the water in your bird bath.” The Erie County Department of Health (“ECDOH”) recommends several other strategies to “fight the bite”, including maintaining your pool by chlorinating and filtering; maintaining ornamental ponds by stocking them with fish and using bubblers and fountains; removing used tires from your property; eliminating any stagnant water in tin cans, plastic containers, or any container that holds water; and repairing window and door screens. Burstein continued, “People at higher risk from mosquito bites are the immune-comprised, the elderly, and the very young. Residents should use common sense when they are outside and be aware of the environments that produce and protect mosquitoes; stagnant, standing water and weeds, tall grass and shrubbery, which provide an outdoor home for mosquitoes. Dress appropriately, use insect repellant, and eliminate or stay away from mosquito-prone areas where you can. Parents should remember to ensure their children are protected too.” For more information on West Nile Virus, visit http:// www2.erie.gov/health/index.php?q=west-nile-virus. FUNDS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ENERGY BILLS

National Fuel Gas Distribution Corporation (“National Fuel” or the “Utility”) reminds residents that its Neighbor for Neighbor Heat Fund remains open as funds are available to provide assistance for energy-related expenses. The Neighbor For Neighbor Heat Fund, a first-come, first-served home-heating assistance grant program, provides assistance to low-income Western New Yorkers. Qualifying Western New Yorkers may receive a one-time grant of up to $400. In order to qualify for a grant, applicants must fall into at least one of the following classifications: Be at least 55 years old; a member of their household must be handicapped or have a disability that reduces the household’s income; have a certified medical emergency; or be receiving unemployment benefits. Applicants must have made at least four payments to their heating bills within a 12-month period from the date of application. Monthly income and expenses will be verified, and grant applications are processed by administering agencies. Applicants must reside in National Fuel’s service territory; however, they are not required to be a National Fuel customer. Eligible families or individuals in need of payment assistance are encouraged to contact the following to find the nearest agency and determine the necessary documentation to bring to the application interview: The Salvation Army at 716-883-9800, extension 230; or Catholic Charities at 716-856-4494 or 716-218-1400 (ask for Parish Outreach). The Neighbor For Neighbor Heat Fund is funded by contributions from National Fuel Gas Company, its customers and employees, and other private entities. This fund was established by National Fuel in 1983 and has offered grants to more than 16,000 western New Yorkers, totaling more than $4.5 million. The Utility also offers other programs and services and referrals to other third-party assistance programs to customers who are struggling with their heating bills. For example, the Low-Income Customer Affordability Assistance Program (LICAAP) offers an opportunity for National Fuel’s customers to benefit from discounted bills and forgiveness of past due balances. To find out more, call 1-800-365-3234 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, or visit www.nationalfuelgas.com and look under the “For Home” section of the website. If you are having any difficulty paying your bill, call National Fuel as soon as possible. Our experienced representatives can work with you to find a payment plan or an assistance program. ________

COUNTY ISSUES DISCUSSED AT BOARD MEETINGS Erie County Legislature Minority Leader John J. Mills will continue to meet with residents, in cooperation with town and village boards, during scheduled meetings. At each of the meetings, Minority Leader Mills will discuss County issues and share information on terms concerning residents. Beginning one half hour before the scheduled meeting, Minority Leader Mills will be available to meet with residents and answer any questions they may have, he will also stay for the duration of the meeting to talk with residents after adjournment. Among the topics Minority Leader Mills plans to discuss are infrastructure repairs and County finances. Legislator Mills next two outreach meetings are scheduled on the following days: 6;30 p.m. Monday, July 9 at the Village of Angola Board Meeting; 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 at the Town of Eden Board Meeting. Minority Leader Mills, along with his colleagues on the Minority Caucus, closed District Offices in 2010, saving taxpayers thousands of dollars annually. Through outreach programs, the Legislators are much more accessible, meeting at times and locations that are convenient for constituents. In addition to being the largest district in square mileage, Minority Leader Mills’ also represents the most residents and his district includes 15 municipalities, which makes it all the more important that Outreach Programs are scheduled, giving residents an opportunity to discuss county issues without traveling great distances. Throughout the year, Minority Leader Mills will be available to meet with residents at Town and Village Board meetings. He is also available to meet individually with residents at a time and location convenient for them. For additional information, please contact Legislator Mills’ Office at 858-8850 or email john.mills@erie.gov. Information is also available on his website at www.erie. gov/legislature/district11. ________
