On the verge of ending her own life, a stranger's hug broke through her despair, inspiring her to discard the letter meant for a tragic discovery. Since that life-altering moment over two decades ago, Rev. Poe has made it her mission to offer hugs and express "I love you" to every person she encounters. While some may find her gestures unusual, she understands that these simple acts of love hold immense power for those who have never experienced such genuine warmth.

Drawing from her personal journey of healing, she courageously shares her life and love with others. Share your emotions when you received a hug from a stranger? That moment changed the course of my life. It was an indescribably powerful and transformative experience. It felt like the weight of despair was lifted, and a glimmer of hope ignited within me. I was overwhelmed by a mix of emotions— relief, gratitude, and a newfound sense of purpose. It was a turning point that shifted my perspective and gave me the strength to choose a different path. Prior to that moment, I had reached a point of deep despair and had even made plans to end my life, symbolized by the recorded sound of my locker closing. I recorded this clang of the locker closing in my mind to be the final tribute of closure to my life. However, as I turned to leave the school building, I unexpectedly encountered a stranger who embraced me with a hug. This unexpected act of kindness disrupted my intentions. It shattered the path I was heading down and ignited a spark of hope within me. I needed a hug. I prayed for a hug. God heard me and now I want to heed His new plan for my life in spite of my pain.
In that moment, I made a conscious decision to tear apart the letter that was intended to be discovered alongside my lifeless body. I realized that to embark on a journey of healing, I needed to let go of the guilt, shame, and pain that weighed me down. It was through this process that I began to understand the importance of loving myself as much as God loves me. Tell us about ‘I Love You The Movement’.
The 'I Love You The Movement' is a brand dedicated to empowering others to embrace life fully. We provide support and inspiration to those who have experienced thoughts or attempts of suicide. We aim to break the stigma surrounding mental health struggles and foster a community where solace, encouragement, and motivation are found. Our goal is to remind every person of their immense value and the positive impact they can make in the world. The idea behind ‘I Love You The Movement’ is to acknowledge that despite our struggles, we can surrender our lives to a higher power, in this case, God. Through this surrender, we can show the world that God isn't finished with us yet and that He can still use us for a greater purpose. It's about finding hope, resilience, and discovering the strength within us to overcome the darkest moments.
How do you stay motivated to spreading love and positivity? In a world where negativity and indifference can often dominate, staying motivated to spread love and positivity is a constant endeavor. It requires a deep understanding of the mission behind “I Love You The Movement” and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of love. I remain committed to our mission because I know there are people who crave and benefit from the expressions of love and compassion we offer. I acknowledge that everyone may not appreciate physical touch, I always ask permission and respect personal boundaries while striving to bridge the gap of unfamiliarity. By persistently carrying out our mission, we aim to create a ripple effect of love and positivity, touching the lives of those who need it most. As the founder, I am fully aware that my actions of hugging people and saying "I love you" may be seen as invasive or unfamiliar to some individuals. However, it is precisely because of the importance of these gestures that I remain undeterred by any potential negativity or indifference. The mission of “I Love You The Movement" is to address the needs of those who may have never heard the words "I love you" or who have not experienced the power of positive physical touch and affection. Recognizing that some people may have never received these expressions of love, I am committed to breaking through the barriers of discomfort or unfamiliarity. What’s next for the movement?
I Love You The Movement has ambitious goals for the future. We aim to expand our impact and reach by organizing conferences and workshops tailored for individuals who have experienced suicidal ideation or attempted suicide. These events will provide safe spaces for sharing stories, offering support, and empowering survivors on their healing journey. Additionally, we are in collaboration with organizations, businesses, schools, and churches to amplify our message and reach a broader audience. By continuing to raise awareness, destigmatize mental health struggles, and spread the transformative power of love, our goal is to touch more lives and make a lasting difference in the fight against suicide.
