Brother Miroslav Bily, a member of Pokrok Houston Lodge, handed the editor a clipping: "You had several articles about social security. Here is an article which may interest the SPJST members."
The editor agrees with Brother Mireslay Bily. It is a g:iod article. It reads:
SOCIAL SECURITY CARD CAN GET YOU $46,000
Your social security card is an insurance policy worth many thousands of iollars. Sylvia Porter, financial columnist for the New York Post, pointed out that few people know of the benefits they can get with their social security card. She listed some little-known facts about social security. Read what Miss Porter wrote and then clip and save this valuable column for future ref :Tence:
Here are some facts that will astound ?ven most experts; Social security is much more that retirement benefits. It is also life insurance to protect young children and their mothers.
It is also a lump-sum death benefit o soften the financial shock of death. It is also a pension for aged widows and dependent children.
Assume a father of two infants — ages me and two — dies in 1953. He has been earning a salary of $3,600 a year, and gas, therefore fully insured at the top oeial security level.
On application, his widow gets a lump sum death benefit equal to three times ier husband's $85 monthly retirement pension.
This equals $255.
His two children and their mother get a pension of $170 a month until the two-year-old reaches 18.
Over a 16-year period this works out to $32,640.

A wife went to court to ask for a divorce. She was seventy-eight and her husband was eighty-two.
The 'judge said, "How long have you been married?"
"Sixty years," answered the wife.
The judge expressed surprise and said, "Why do you want a divirce after being together for so many years?"
She answered emphatically, "Enough is enough,'
His youngest child and the mother get a pension of $127.50 a month until the youngest reaches 18, one year later.
This amounts to $1,530.
The widow's pension ceases when both children reach 18, but she gets old-age benefits when she is 65.
The total hits a whopping $46,346— and all this income, under the- law, is free of all tax!

C Racas Cuts Collisions
1 ,cas, Venezuela, is a city much r in size than Havana, Cuba. Yet Ca] aras has more automobiles than Haymil. And the cars in Caracas go fairly L1 A, too, even whizzing along narrow -sets on precariously steep hills. But , te of the many autos, the rapid u, vin and narrow streets the accident 1«.e is comparatively low. How is this paradox explained? Because the city's 1.2 affic laws are strict and are applied \\ Ithcut a moment's hesitation. These
MIDDLE
TOP laws, responsible for cutting auto collisions. appeared in the August, 1953, issue of the Americas magazine:
"First, the car on the right has the right of way at any intersection. As a result, you never go before a judge because of a collision at a crossing. The one one the left simply pays for all damage, and also pays the fine." There are no arguments and no time lost in court.
Second, whoever hits another car from behind is always responsible. It makes no difference if the leading driver ne- glected to signal for a turn. Every car must keep at least ten yards behind the next. Finally, no one may drive after drinking alcoholic beverages. On Sundays, when the dangerous roads to the beaches are jammed with cars, the traffic prosecutors stop each vehicle and put a special glass device in front of the driver's mouth. If the indicator turns red, he has consumed alcohol and cannot go on driving. He must leave the car and come back another day. A terrible nuisance, but many lives are saved."
