Die ATKV bevorder die rieldans
B

Mooi loop! Amanda de Stadler (amandad@vva.atkv.org.za)
Well this year is certainly MARCHing on!! Im already sneaking the odd chocolate coated marshmallow easter egg into my basket. OK, so in the interest of complete honesty, I will confess that it ‘s a little more than just the odd one. What can I say, I love the sweet moments of my life.
50 Shades Darker.

The Soundtrack to this sequel is not as good as the first one. There is a shift in tone and the falsetto that permeates the 19 tracks results in several of the songs sounding very similar despite their different musical styles. However, the retro-inspired track “They Cant Take That Away from me”, “No Running From Me” by Toulouse and the catchy “Bom Bidi Bom” by Nick Jonas and Nicki Minaj saves the Album from being a dud.
Nevermind by Nirvana.
London Grammar.
This American band, one of the most successful bands of their time released their second album Nevermind featuring the song “Smells like Teen Spirit” in 1991. This album was a massive success. They played a style of Rock known as Grunge, which was influenced by Punk and Alternative Rock. They split up after lead singer Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994.
On 1 January 2017 this British Trio shared their new single “Rooting For You” and followed this up by releasing their second single “Big Picture” which was the first new music since their Album in 2013. Their music has been described as “a blend of ambient, ethereal and classical sounds”. The powerful, brooding vocals of Hannah Reid are prominent on all their tracks.
22, A Million by Bon Iver an American Indie Folkband.
Jekyll + Hyde.
Released 30 September 2016 was noted by many as a large stylistic shift and one review stated that this album “takes an unexpected turn toward the strange and experimental” The music on this album is very different to his earlier Grammy winning songs and might be disappointing to some of this fans. I must say that Singer/ songwriter Justin Vernon does venture into some strange territory on this Album.
Released April 2015. The fourth major-label studio album by Zac Brown Band a multi award winning American band. They were originally classified as a Country Rock band, however, they have developed into a more eclectic style and continue to push boundaries with different genres. The band members play the fiddle, mandolin, banjo and ukulele in addition to the usual instruments along with great vocals. I don’t think there is anything not to like about this Band.

‘Watsegoed?’, vra jy my. Is hierdie vroeë skedulering per ongeluk, aspris of onkunde? For my English readers, my TV series, Swartwater II will be broadcast on SABC 2 from Tuesday 14 March at 19h00. With English sub-titles. Brace yourselves, it’s not for the faint-hearted. Making good Television Drama isn’t easy. Mid-hysterics and tantrums, someone sent me The SEVEN STEPS TO FILM PRODUCTION to give me perspective. (I’ve added a few pearls of my own)

And this was only the script writing process! I’ve always thought March was a bit of a non-month. But after some reading up I discovered that… In Roman Times the New Year started in March. Which suits me just fine, since January and February have sped by (see point 12) and I have only recently surfaced to smell the champagne air of our lovely Hermanus. Did you know that Saturday 4 March is ‘March forth and do something day’? Mmm, I kinda like it. After more research I discover that literally every day has its own unique name. March 19: Let’s laugh day. March 20: Storytelling Day. 21 March: Common Courtesy day. Interestingly enough, also Human Right’s Day. Wouldn’t it be great if we could combine the two? And live our lives accordingly – every day. My husband reminds me that ‘March Madness’ can only refer to the fact that March is a month filled to the brim with sport… The Super Rugby season starts, so does the IPL cricket season… And probably soccer as well. Seems they’re always playing soccer somewhere in the world. So next time you spot Percy in Amulet wearing a hearing aid, don’t be fooled, nothing wrong with his hearing, he’s merely keeping track of the cricket score. Ladies, if your man has left you for the TV remote, don’t despair. I declare every Monday in March ‘Feed the senses’ Day. Tuesdays: ‘Be good to yourself ’ day. Wednesdays: ‘Smell the Origin Coffee in Amulet’ day. Thursdays: Music Day . Friday: ‘Surround yourself with Beauty’ Day Saturday: ‘Relax and eat a brownie’ day. Sunday: ‘Do what you feel like’ day. Choose what kind of day you are going to have today. Make it a fabulous one. A day to remember. A day to be cherished. Because no other day will be the same as the one that you will live today.

ouchard Finlayson is inviting entries for the 2017 Tollman Bouchard Finlayson Art Award as part of the Hermanus FynArts Festival. The Tollman family, owners of Bouchard Finlayson, has long been great supporters of the arts in South Africa and is sponsoring this competition for the fourth consecutive year. Artists are invited to submit their entries, in tondo format (circular – at a maximum of 60cm in diameter) under this year’s theme ‘Reflections’. The works of about 40 finalists will form the Tollman Bouchard Finlayson Barrel Head Exhibition that will be exhibited in the Hemel-enAarde wine estate cellar, where they will also be available for sale for the duration of the Hermanus FynArts festival (9 – 18 June 2016). The competition closes on 19 May 2017. Judges will include Stefan Hundt, curator of the Sanlam Art Collection; Michael Godby, Professor Emeritus of History of Art, UCT; and Lien Botha, artist, writer and curator. The winner will receive a cash prize of R20 000, followed by a second prize of R10 000, and two merit prizes of R5 000 each. Laws of attraction Every time I see the mail from Splash saying deadline for this month’s issue looming, I attempt to find a topic which is interesting but not too medical that it becomes boring. Today I’m sharing with you, a talk I presented at a congress in Johannesburg, which will interest even those of you who have no interest in beauty.
Why does nature favour the youth? As we age, the eyes hollow, the cheek fat pads are absorbed and the skin falls over the jawline, creating jowls. Our lower jaw squares off and the face tends to take on more masculine characteristics. The human mind interprets these signs of aging as infertility and thus as less attractive. Enter the aesthetic physician, who uses filler, a natural substance found in our skin, to remodel, rebalance and restore our faces to their former glory; or better. The eyes are the windows to our souls, or so they say. And men genetically favour women with big eyes. This is because, when a woman is attracted in her ovulatory phase, her pupils dilate. Women have long known the benefit of big eyes in attracting the male. So much so, that in the middle ages, women used a drug called Belladonna to dilate their pupils, to make them more attractive to men. Women with blue eyes are also deemed to be more attractive as unconsciously men can see when their pupils are dilating. A flawless skin too, is perceived as youthful and beautiful. Before blood tests, our ancestors used external clues such as skin quality to determine a person’s health. As we age, we develop darker spots, like fruit which is overripe. A smooth, even skin tone is most pleasing to the opposite sex. Enter the aesthetic therapist. We have developed lasers to remove these unwanted dots and spots. Are we all just animals responding to environmental signals, which cue our actions and attractions? I don’t know the answer to that question, but what I can say with conviction; is that we are here to help, and to offer solutions to assist in restoring, youthfulness and the power of attraction. Contact Refine for your complimentary consultation. Dr Michelle Emett Refine Hermanus.
AVERAGE FACE FROM VARIOUS COUNTRIES. 1000 PHOTOS SUPERIMPOSED Based on a book by Dr Steven Dayan, “Subliminally Exposed”; I explored the truth behind beauty and why this industry continues to grow at an explosive rate. In this world of instant gratification, global travel and fast paced change; why do we mere mortals behave the way we do towards opposite sex? Why do better looking people earn more than non-good looking people? How does what we know about the perception of beauty, influence our work in the aesthetic field. This brings me to the law of Golden Proportions. This Fibonacci sequence, which was made famous in the Da Vinci code, is scientifically proven to occur throughout nature. The inner spirals of a nautilus shell, ratios of the universe and interestingly in the human body; defies coincidence. If one regards a beautiful face, (go on have a look in the mirror now); the upper to lower lip ratio should be 1:1.618. That is, the top lip is 1.618 times narrower than the bottom lip. Thus, when I assess a patient seeking lip enhancement, I have a responsibility to not overfill a top lip and distort natural proportions. Likewise, if the lips she seeks are not in proportion to the shape or size of the rest of the face, she will have to seek another physician. We humans are rather boring, as in fact what we deem to be beautiful, is in fact the average face of the population we are most familiar with. In other words, if you live in Korea and take the face of thousands of Korean women, and superimpose them; the face you see will be beautiful to that population. These studies have been proven. So, in fact, as men and women, we seek to be average, not to be beautiful! It is interesting to note that in the USA, the “look” to have now, has moved away from the Caucasian stereotype of “Twiggy”, and more to the Latino, voluptuous body of J-Lo or Beyoncé. This occurs as the population demographics changes. Likewise, symmetry is unconsciously perceived to be beautiful. We all have facial asymmetry. We’ve all seen the experiment of placing a mirror at right angles to our nose and observing what our faces look like if the left and right sides were an exact replica. Though we aim for symmetry and balance in facial aesthetics, an exactly symmetrical face is not correctly proportioned. A mole on the tip of the nose is unsightly, but a mole in the peripheral face is attractive.

Strategie van die
– Dawie Snyman
Vandaar my belangstelling in die 1937 Springbok-span se welslae. So what happened in 1937 and what was the motto and the pride of that team? Dr Craven told me it was extremely simple. I shall try and explain his rendition in context of the two brothers who played as props for the Springboks: Boy and Fanie Louw. They had a family competition as to which one of them would be in charge (dominating) the direct competition in the test first. Dr Craven played scrumhalf in that final and decisive test for the rubber.
You may well say: “Ja Dawie” but we live in 2017. Your example is almost a hundred years old. I agree, but what I enjoyed about the match last weekend between Ireland and Italy is the fact that the Irish took Italy on where they thought they were strongest and dominated them to such an extent that it had a physical and psychological influence on the game. The scrums in the first 20 minutes of the game paved the way for the rest of the game. Italy was on the back foot in every situation from there onwards. Nine tries followed!!! In a game plan like this my players will have to have very good contact skills combined with very good communication skills to enable the team to play well together in unorganised playing situations. Team-play in situations like this will ensure continuity of possession with scrum on scrum on scrum. After 40 minutes the game will be over.
The second strategic decision that the Springboks made, was to dominate the scrums. That was then the reason for the competition between the two brothers. The Springboks decided to take a scrum for every line out which was awarded to them. In 1937 according to the laws you had a choice of a scrum or a line-out if the ball is out of the playing field in order to restart the game. Anyone who played lock in his lifetime will tell you that you can feel the strength of the opposition through the prop forward in front of you. It is the one place in the game where you cannot hide or run away from your opposition. You must engage in and with the competition. Forwards will also tell you that there is nothing more tiring than being forced backwards and simultaneously trying to stop the opposition and then having to run and compete again.

Forbidden Land
In South West Namibia overland travellers have for many years been greeted with a simple no entry sign: Sperrgebiet. It is like a command, issued by a German Wehrmacht General. You will not even consider ignoring the sign. It is Verboten! In the recent past many 4x4 enthusiasts visited part of what was previously known Sperrgebiet in expeditions arranged by Coastway Tours, Uri Adventures and Desert Magic. But there is one section where nobody was allowed – the area north of Lüderitz up to Hottentots Bay. For 108 years no member of the public was allowed to venture into this area. It was the Forbidden Land. The Sperrgebiet was proclaimed in September 1908 after the discovery of diamonds in German South West Africa. The first diamonds were discovered near Kolmanskop, just outside the little harbour town of Lüderitz. But the German authorities did not know how deep inland the diamonds were to be found, and a Sperrgebiet, a Forbidden Land, was proclaimed from Oranjemund in the south, past Lüderitz in the north, and roughly 100 kilometres inland. There is Sperrgebiet No 1 and Sperrgebiet No 2. The second one, stretching north of Lüderitz, was converted into the Namib Naukluft Park in the early 21st century. The diamonds that were flushed down the Orange River were carried north with the Benguela Current. The heavy diamonds remained near Oranjemund. The further north, the smaller the diamonds were. Because they were carried by the currents and deposited on the seabed and coastline, these diamonds were not associated with the desert, but with the ocean. The German authorities, and the South African Administration later on, did at first not realize that the diamonds would only to be found in the first five to ten kilometres from the coast. That is why they declared the whole of the Namib Desert Sperrgebiet. From a nature conservation point of view, the Sperrgebiet, both No 1 and No 2, turned out to be excellent for the preservation of the ecological sensitive Namib Desert. Along the coast no stone is left untouched in search of diamonds. But towards the interior, where there are no diamonds, one finds pristine wilderness area. Once the Diamond Area No 2 was handed over to the wild life authorities, they continued to manage it with conservation of the area as the main concern. Visitor numbers are limited. Those who are allowed access are closely monitored. Everything that is taken in is taken
out as well. This includes toilet waist. Those who have been privileged to be on a Faces of the Namib, Lüderitz to Walvis Bay or a journey to Saddle Hill will testify to this. But there is a Holy Grail to desert trips in the Namib – a visit to Sperrgebiet No 1. A visit to the Forbidden Land. Volker Jahnke is a veteran to guiding in the Namib. At first he was involved in Coastway Tours. Later he created Desert Magic. Through Desert Magic, Volker managed to get access to Diamond Area No 1. Question is – why bother? There is so much one can experience in the rest of the Namib. What will a visit to Sperrgebiet No 1 offer that is different? In September 2016 I had the privilege to travel with Volker and eight other 4x4 vehicles through this area. Getting permission for this trip is a little more involved than with any of the others. It is a diamond area. Police clearance for all who enter is needed. At the Kolmanskop Gate we were checked in. Our ID’s were checked and we even had to undergo a breathalyser test. Then we crossed the tar road, unlocked the gate and entered the diamond area. Five kilometres later we were stopped by officials who once more thoroughly checked our ID’s and made sure we met all the requirements. It was clear – this is not an area that one can visit without getting all the permissions.
Otavi, a steamer with a cargo of guano that ran aground in 1945. Later we also visited the wreck of the Eduard Bohlen and Shawnee. These two wrecks are also visited by those who do the Lüderitz Walvis Bay route and the Faces of the Namib. But it is the beginning of this route, the first couple of days that makes it exceptional and special. The group I was travelling in consisted of guys from the winelands in the Cape and a few individuals from Namibia. We also had a special guest – Calvyn Hamman, Senior Vice President, Toyota South Africa. This was not a Toyota expedition, yet every single vehicle that pitched was a Toyota. Calvyn was indeed a very proud man. It was my first experience with a V8 diesel Cruiser. I was driving my 76 Series. One always has concerns about driving a diesel in the desert. Veterans like Volker will tell you – petrol engines are made for the desert. When the soft sand grabs you, immediate response is needed. That is only to be found in a petrol vehicle. Vehicles like the FJ Cruiser whom it seems was built specifically with the Namib in mind. This is, until the arrival of the V8 diesel. Seldom in the past have I been so impressed with a vehicle. True, the fuel economy is not something to write home about, but driving the 76 Series V8 diesel through the Forbidden Land is only a pleasure. Any trip in the Namib, the oldest desert in the world, is exceptional and a privilege. But to go where no one was allowed to go for more than 100 years is even more special.
Then the fun began. Volker warned us beforehand – drivers with no previous knowledge or experience of dune driving would struggle. And so it was. Different to all the other Namib trips, this one was challenging from the outset. As difficult as the terrain was, equally so beautiful was the landscape. Volker called this the Shipwreck Forbidden Land Route. It is a route that keeps as close to the coastline, with its numerous shipwrecks, as possible. Many of the shipwrecks were never accessible to the public in the past, as they were in the diamond area. The FrotAmerica is a 200 meter long freighter that was grounded on the beach just south of Hottentots Bay. There is also the wreck of a ship that was used for the cultivation of oysters. Other wrecks are those of the

Just an hours’ drive from Cape Town lies the picturesque Elgin Valley with its rolling hills, boasting the vibrant colours of autumn as Elgin Wines invite you to visit them for their annual Elgin Cool Wine and Country Food Festival to be held over the weekend of 29th and 30th April 2017, from 10h00 until 17h00 daily. For wine lovers and those in need of a revitalising day out, the festival offers a chance to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city to indulge in a memorable day of the best cool climate wines, decadently delightful food, entertainment, a plethora of outdoor activities and the spectacular natural beauty that the valley has to offer. Each of the participating wineries will offer a unique programme, allowing patrons to tailor-make their experience according to their own personal preferences. Entertainment includes performances by live bands, art exhibitions, kid’s activities, and for lunch each venue offers different dishes along with their signature wines to tantalise the taste buds and keep those bellies filled – these include a la carte menu’s, farm style picnic’s, American style smoke house BBQ, food trucks and much more. Guests are simply spoilt for choice. Elgin is noted as the coolest wine growing region in South Africa with its high altitude and climate conditions which allow grapes to ripen slowly, resulting in wines with character defined by excellent purity, distinct minerality, density of fruit and an elegance which can only be described as bottled poetry. Tickets for the festival are available via Webtickets.co.za and cost R140p/p, which includes a tasting glass, festival programme, access to participating farms, live entertainment and a wine tasting of a selection of three wines from any of the estates involved - tasting glasses and festival programmes are to be collected at Peregrine Farm Stall prior to visiting any of the farms. Children under the age of 18, and accompanied by an adult, enter for free. Prices for the lunch offerings vary and bookings are essential for the limited seating events. Online ticket sales will close on 28 April 2017.
Tickets can be purchased on the day at the Elgin Cool Wine & Country Food Festival office at the Peregrine Farm Stall for R160p/p.

SELLING YOUR HOME? CHECK HERE FIRST… T his is not going to be a walk in the park, so don’t let anyone try and fool you. After all, this is your home! You have spent many hours and you have many memories and emotional ties right here that are now going to be alienated!!!! 1. You have to get used to the idea. 2. You have to decide at what price you are going to sell 3. Which procedures and certificates are you, as the seller, responsible for? 4. What terms and conditions of sale are you prepared to accept? 1. Get used to the idea (Are you prepared for strangers opening your cupboards and looking into your drawers?) Putting your property on the market can be a traumatic experience. As a potential seller it is imperative that you must be absolutely sure that you in actual fact do want to sell. Do not put your property on the market in order to “test” the market or to find out what price your property can fetch. There are other far better ways of establishing this that are far less stressful! When you are certain that you want or need to sell, it is essential that you prepare yourself and all the occupants of your home to know what they can expect and what is expected of them in order to facilitate the process. 2. Pricing your property correctly The seller must instruct a reputable estate agent who is familiar with the area to prepare a market related valuation of the home, in other words what is the amount estimated to be the market value based on actual sales in the area. This comparative market
analysis (CMA) value should be combined with a value based on the capitalisation of income. This second method of estimation is imperative in the case that possible investors are interested as potential ‘buy-tolet’ purchasers. Estate agent who know their business should base an estimation on these methods and provide the seller with a written document verifying the facts. Amongst other factors, they take into consideration: • that market conditions can change rapidly due to a myriad of external factors; • that the property market is a very local market and that conditions in one area do not always influence prices in another; and • that market forces of supply and demand regulate and influence the price of property Here are some home-truths about property pricing that sellers may want to take cognisance of: • The price that you paid for your property, the amount of money you have spent on it, the average capital growth on properties and the municipal valuation are not necessarily particularly relevant to the present value of your home. • Overpricing your property when it initially goes onto the market will probably be the main reason why it does not sell as soon as you anticipate or would like. • The length of time that a property is on the market is bound to affect the price. If it was overpriced initially when it came onto the market, it will most probably sell at below true market value because the price has been reduced by over-exposure to the potential market. • The length of time on the market will not increase the price of the property, i.e. you will not necessarily receive a higher offer if you wait longer. Take the time value of money into account.
• The value of a home is determined by what a willing, able and informed buyer will pay a willing seller on a specific date. • Pricing your home correctly (fair market value) is the way to ensure a quicker sale at the best possible price. 3. Which procedures and certificates are sellers responsible for? As the seller, you are responsible to provide certain compliance certificates to the buyer before date of transfer of the property into the name of the buyer. The following certificates are required in terms of applicable legislation: • Electrical Compliance • Gas Compliance • Plumbing (in certain municipal areas) • Beetle (in certain provincial regions) The seller must do a thorough investigation in order to be in a position to appoint reliable and professional compliance companies that can take care of all of the above requirements. On the seller’s instruction, the estate agent will arrange for the necessary inspections by registered technicians. (Remember to enquire whether the estate agent receives kick-backs from the companies that they suggest, as this may not always be in the seller’s interest!) As the property seller, you also need to appoint a property conveyancer to execute the transfer of ownership to the purchaser. It is not in the interest of the seller to waive this right and agree to purchasers appointing a conveyancer of their choice. (This rule does not apply in KZN where purchasers elect the conveyancer). Be sure that you have done your homework so that you can appoint a capable conveyancer to guard your interests throughout the transferring process. 4. What terms and conditions of sale are you prepared to accept? A professional estate agent will always supply the seller (the agent’s mandator) with a standard copy of the
agency’s agreement of sale document up front, when he is mandated to market the property, to ensure that the seller is aware of the terms and conditions of sale long before an offer is presented. No surprises… The seller must be sure to consider the following basic terms and conditions (over and above the purchase price and how it is to be paid) before accepting an offer to purchase (OTP): • Is the purchaser qualified to enter into the agreement of sale? • Has the purchaser been informed of all the possible defects and legal requirements regarding the property that the seller and thus the agent are aware of? • Is there a specific date by which the seller needs to vacate the property and does the OTP provide for this? • In the event that the purchaser needs to take occupation before the date of transfer (not a good idea), does the offer make provision for the payment of occupational consideration? (ensure that no tenancy will be created as this can cause the seller problems) • Does the purchaser have to apply for a loan in order to purchase or perhaps sell another property first? • Is the purchaser buying in his/her personal capacity or on behalf of a legal entity and if so, is he/she duly authorised? • Have you been given reasonable time to accept or reject the OTP without feeling pressurised? • Is the estate agent that is presenting the OTP the effective cause of the sale? Ensure that you understand each and every clause in the agreement before you sign as your signature is an indication that you are in total agreement with every aspect thereof. Next month we will discuss the financial implications of purchasing and selling a property by looking in depth at what the secondary financial implications are, i.e. the costs of buying and selling as well as the taxes you may be liable for when acquiring or disposing of your property.

Die sanger Peter Sarstedt se liedjie “Where do you go to my Lovely” verwys na Balmain se ontwerpe.
Sy het Suid Afrika gereeld besoek en jare gelede ’n “Lockup and Go” woonstel gekoop by die Onrushandelspos. Ek lees toevallig ’n baie gepaste stukkie, wat Annette se wêreld goed beskryf; “because all the great poets have told us the journey is more important than the destination”

XTERRA Trail Run depicts the raw beauty of Grabouw
S
outh Africa’s trail running enthusiasts were granted the unique opportunity to experience the thrilling XTERRA Vibe on Sunday, 26 February 2017 while taking on only 1/2 of the challenge, the XTERRA Trail Run in Grabouw. Incorporating the trail run routes of SA’s premier off-road triathlon, the Fedhealth XTERRA, entrants could choose between an action-packed 12.5km and/or 6.5km route. Givemore Mudzinganyama and Edwin Sesipi set the pace in the men’s 12.5km race. Both runners crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 46 minutes 33 seconds. According to Mudzinganyama, he’ll be teaming up with Sesipi for the Cell C AfricanX Trailrun in March. “This is the first time that I’ve taken part in the XTERRA Trail Run,” says Mudzinganyama. “We used the event as training for AfricanX. We had a good race. I really enjoyed the river crossing and will definitely be back in 2018.” “The XTERRA Trail Run was really nice,” says Sisipi. “The course is flat and fast. I will definitely recommend the event to all my friends. Givemore and I were just testing our bodies today. Our goal is to podium at the AfricanX Trailrun. A win will be a bonus.” A J Calitz was the third runner home in the 12.5km XTERRA Trail Run. Megan Leslie set the pace in the women’s 12.5km XTERRA
Trail Run. Her finishing time of 59 minutes 45 seconds cemented her victory on the day. According to Leslie, it’s the vibe that attracts her to XTERRA. “I took part in the XTERRA on Saturday as part of a team. I love the trail run route. It’s hilly and tiring. I’ll definitely enter again next year.” Susan Caras came in second, while Anchen Clarke finished third. Chris Visser took no prisoners in the 6.5km XTERRA Trail Run claiming gold in 31 minutes 10 seconds. “I’m taking part in the XTERRA Lite today. I entered the trail run to take the edge off a bit,” says Visser. “The route is beautiful. It’s flowing and just technical enough to keep you awake. Being out in nature is lovely.” Eduan Naude came in second, while Josh Messina finished third. Candice Hankey was the runner to beat in the women’s 6.5km race. “This was my first XTERRA Trail Run,” says Hankey. “My husband is taking part in the XTERRA Lite today. He thinks I’m a good runner so he entered me into the trail run. The route was nice and tough.” Hankey crossed the finish line in 36 minutes 54 seconds. Linel Engelbrecht came in second, while Marileen Odendaal finished third. After an adrenaline pumping day out on the trails, the Bos Sport Recovery Zone was a welcomed oasis for weary trail runners.
