Trou is nie perdekoop
J
Hessian is hoogmode, so ook rustic troues... Handgemaak is in. Jou vrou het soms ‘me’ time nodig. In Afrikaans beteken ‘me’ tyd eintlik ‘mooi’ tyd. Ons hou van mooi. Sommer net. Ons wil dit sien, raak, ruik, ervaar... Daaraan voel. So moenie vir haar vra: Wat gaan jy daarmee maak nie? of Waar gaan jy dit sit nie? Dis is nie die punt nie! En hou op om so om haar rond te hang. Gaan weg. Gaan hardeware winkel toe. Jy inhibeer haar. Moenie so na my kyk nie.

Dalk ’n staanlamp. Ek sal jou liefhê... for better of vir wors... Tot die dood ons skei.

Choosing a Venue After you get engaged, picking a venue will probably be the very first thing on your to do list.
To book your wedding at DuVon Contact: 0722955635 or 0725144204 www.duvon.co.za laura@duvon.co.za
The process of finding a wedding venue, actually reminds me allot about one of my favourite childhood stories, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. First you see venues that are tooooo expensive. Then you see that requires tooooo much work and hopefully you will find one that is juuuuust right. How do you start hunting for the perfect venue? a Estimate how many people you’d like to invite to your big day a Decide with your fiancé, how much you are willing to spend a Talk to your fiancé whether you will like to get married in the wine lands, on the beach, country or in the city. a Start searching on the Internet (most of the wedding websites has a “refine” search option). What to remember when you found a venue that you like? a Find out exactly what your chosen venue offers you v Does the venue have a kitchen? Only inside catering or is outside catering acceptable. v Tables, chairs and linens. v Does the venue have a setup/clean-up crew act? v Corkage fees on wine and how does the bar work?

DO-RE-ME-FA-SEW… SEW A NEEDLE PULLING THREAD Aesthetic medicine is a fast moving game and physicians need to keep our eye on the ball for what is hip and trendy and what is truly scientifically advancing our skills and the results for patients. Two such advancements to hit the scene are the Silhouette thread lift and the PDO threads. I will endeavour to explain the difference between the two and the pros and cons of each procedure.
Where the single thread lift produced as described above, has its place; so too does the PDO threading; which has recently become very popular. PDO threading was introduced by the South Koreans; who after years of acupuncture experience, attached a very slim thread to acupuncture needles and used many of these for collagen stimulation, lift and tightening. In this instance the thread is made from polydioxanone a substance which also stimulates collagen production. The thread is short and many threads are placed at one sitting. Due to the size of these acupuncture needles, no anaesthetic injection is needed; although I still pamper the patients with anaesthetic cream which is not really necessary. The sutures provide a lifting, smoothing and brightening effect on the skin. The various lengths of thread give the doctor options in treating a range of areas. This procedure is very well tolerated by patients. Each thread costs R300, but bear in mind that many threads are used per treatment. One thread will not have an effect. One can expect to use 10-20 threads per sitting. So while many short threads are put under the skin with PDO, one long thread is inserted with Silhouette.
Refine patient 18 months after Silhouette Lift The Silhouette thread has been hailed as the best minimally invasive lifting technique. It is a long thread which, when placed in the correct area creates significant lift so an entire area of the face is lifted; such as jawline and jowls, cheeks, forehead and eyebrows or neck. The thread is made of polylactic acid, a substance used to make heart valves for decades. The benefit of this substance is that it attracts collagen to the thread. So while the thread lasts 18 months; the collagen left where the thread was, as well as the lift can last between 24-48 months depending on the collagen one produces. The procedure is done under three dots of local anaesthetic in the rooms and takes around 30 minutes. The thread also has small cones on it, once placed under the skin, the skin can be pushed up and the cones hold the skin in place. Due to the skin’s elasticity this ruching settles within three days, as the cones find their space. Thereafter the collagen begins to be stimulated and best results are seen from around two months. It is thus a gradual tightening and lifting, which is not as obvious as the dramatic changes of a facelift. It is practically painless and besides a risk of bruising (which is rare in the right physician’s hands); it is an extremely safe and effective procedure. If the threads are placed in a straight line they can also lift and plump an area such as cheeks. The procedure costs around R10, 000. Many of my patients ask how many of these procedures I’ve done, by now the numbers have way surpassed 100 patients so I am confidant to offer this procedure on a daily basis. After the World Expert Meeting which I have been invited to in Barcelona in September; I will be able to introduce new techniques and updates. More than 87,000 procedures have been done worldwide over the last 7 years. A wonderful advantage of this procedure is that one can have several threads for different areas, in the same sitting; and there is no time limit between threads being inserted, so that the patient can repeat the procedure as they grow older.
The beauty of the lower cost of the PDO threads is that a patient can have procedures done over a course of time; it does not all have to be done at once. PDO thread areas would include a single jowl, or under chin, or under eyes. Threads dissolve after 8 months but the lifting and tightening effects of these threads lasts 2-3 years due to the continual production of collagen and elastin during this time. PDO threads have been used in various areas of the body such as over the buttocks, in the arms, chest area etcetera. Again PDO procedure takes about thirty minutes to be performed and there is no cutting involved. Bruising is possible and usually resolves within a few days, with the use of Arnica. The PDO lift can be thought of as, as inserting a scaffolding under the skin to create a spreading and lifting of fine lines and wrinkles; or it can be used in V-shaped vectors to produce lifting. It gives the patients many options in many areas. One of the benefits of PDO’s as opposed to Silhouette is that one does not have to be careful with yawning, chewing or exaggerated facial expressions and movement which can dislodge the Silhouette. Advantages of both threading procedures include that there is no cutting, no general anaesthetic. There are no stiches involved, no risk of rejection and the only possible side effects are mild bruising and swelling which resolves within days. Both procedures can be done with any other aesthetic injection such as Botox or Dermal fillers. This can be done at the same sitting or at another stage. There is no risk of scarring. Threading is well tolerated and there is a high level of patient satisfaction as the final result is very natural. It’s all about the Music
Hermanus has a musical treat coming its way at the end of October! Something probably never experienced by music lovers in the Overstrand before. A full youth orchestra of 45 members, aged from 8 to 13, from The Hall Preparatory School in London will be giving a performance at the Municipal auditorium on Saturday 29 October 2016. But it gets even better! They will be joined by our very own Enlighten Education Trust Youth Orchestra, which was formed as a strings ensemble in October last year. This group, expanded to include other young musicians from this area, performed to great acclaim at this year’s FynArts Festival. They are thrilled at the opportunity to play with pupils from a full-scale music school in the UK and those pupils, under a South African Director of Music, Dr Willem Steyn, are equally excited at the prospect of playing in beautiful Hermanus. It is not their first trip to South Africa and they have already fallen in love with the country and its people. The Enlighten Youth Orchestra is the fulfilment of a dream by Local resident, Elvia Bury, who provided the seed funding for the project in memory of her late husband, Alex. It is being trained and nurtured by Enlighten’s very active Music Department under the management of Mrs Anna-Marié Kotzé. As she says, ‘The aim of the orchestra is to provide the youth of the Overstrand with the opportunity to make music in ensemble form. Music can be a lonely road, but great friends can be made, across a diversity of backgrounds, when playing and practising together’. The original 12 violinists and one cellist were recruited from all six of the local primary schools; now they have the chance to extend their circle of musical friends to another country. It is hoped through this joint performance to build an on-going relationship with The Hall, which, in time, may even lead to some sort of exchange programme amongst the learners. What a wonderful opportunity that would be!
So, make sure not to miss this very special event. It will take place on Saturday 29 October at 11:00 at the Municipal auditorium. Contact Enlighten at 028 3130974 for more information. SPLASH 7
Whale Watching B
oat Based Whale Watching was first established in South Africa about 20 years ago and since then it has grown in popularity. The ability to see these amazing sea giants up close is something quite unlike anything you will ever experience. “These gentle giants leave you deeply aware of how insignificant we are in the greater picture.” These giants are 8 - 10 times the average size of a male elephant and so “ugly it becomes breathtakingly beautiful”. Unlike, most of the commercial whale watching companies, “Ivanhoe Sea Safaris” operates from the quaint fishing harbour of Gansbaai otherwise known as Goose Bay and is the permit holder for area 6 of Walker Bay, argued as the best whale watching location in the world, a little past the coast
of Hermanus. Gansbaai is roughly 2 hours from Cape Town and is the true whale watchers paradise, off the cliffs of De Kelders. A trip on “The Ivanhoe” will treat you to the best whale watching experience you could ever imagine, and one you will never forget. A Typical trip will have you exploring our magnificent coastline and bay while looking for whales, dolphins, sharks, seals and seabirds. Apart from the Southern Right Whales, we are able to view Brydes Whales, Humpback Whales and possibly even Great White Sharks. There are many Cape Fur Seals, African Penguins, Dolphins, Sunfish and plenty of coastal marine birds to been seen whilst out at sea.
In National Braai Day, we South Africans have a realistic opportunity to entrench and cement a national day of celebration for our country, within our lifetimes. I believe that having a national day of celebration can play a significant role in nation-building and social cohesion as the observance of our shared heritage can truly bind us together. In Africa, a fire is the traditional place of gathering. I urge you to get together with your friends and family around a fire on 24 September every year to celebrate our heritage, share stories and pass on traditions. Unite around a fire, share our heritage and wave our flag. Please help me spread that word!

We want our guest to have a fun yet educational experience. All trips have proficient marine guides on board to answer your questions and share their vast knowledge of the ocean and its creatures with you. Our objective is to adhere to responsible tourism guidelines and the emphasis of all our trips is on the conservation and welfare of these magnificent animals. We offer unique trips that give you the ability to observe some of the ocean’s biggest and enigmatic inhabitants in their natural surroundings. Whale Watching Trips - (June to December) Our whale watching trips take place from June to December however, should the whales change their
migration schedule (arrive early and leave later) we will adjust our schedule accordingly. Generally the trip last 2 hours, but can be longer depending on how quickly we find the whales. At the start of the season we launch twice daily at 10am and 1pm, in main season (Aug-Sep-Oct) we put on an extra trip in the morning with a 7am launch and then from September on-wards an extra trip in the afternoon either 3:30pm or if a good sunset is forecasted a trip at 5pm. The 5pm trip is truly a magnificent experience watching the whales bask in the shallow waters as well as experiencing a stunning Walker Bay sunset.
HERITAGE T-BONE STEAK WITH PINOTAGE SAUCE
t was Archbishop Desmond Tutu who famously said “I like T-bone steaks because they are in the shape of Africa”. For this reason, the shape of it, you could argue that the T-bone steak is more South African than other cuts of steak. From this follows the clear logic that it’s the one to serve with a Pinotage sauce. Pinotage is our very own South African grape variety. In 1925 it was famously bred as a cross between Pinor Noir and Cinsaut by Professor Abraham Perold at Stellenbosch University. This meal then is a great part of our South African wine and braai heritage. The recipe was specifically designed not to use the whole bottle of Pinotage. This way you are left with some wine to drink during the braai after making the sauce!
WHAT TO DO 1. Light a massive fire using your favourite braai wood. Open a bottle of Pinotage wine, pour yourself a glass and do some quality control. 2. T-bone steaks are very well suited to being dry-aged. As such you would have ideally bought dry-aged T-bone steaks from your butcher, and he would have cut them right there in front of your eyes in the butchery. If not and your steaks were wet-aged and vacuum packed, remove the steaks from their packaging, rinse them under cold running water and pat dry with kitchen towels. 3. Place a medium-sized flameproof pan or potjie over the fire. You want a pretty high heat but it must not be searing hot, so just use some of the burning logs under the potjie, not all of them. 4. Melt the butter and then fry the finely chopped onion, garlic and thyme leaves for about 5 minutes until the onion is soft and starts to turn brown. Fry the onions first and add the garlic about 1 minute before the next step as garlic actually fries much quicker than onion. 5. Add the flour and stir well, then immediately add the Pinotage, stock, sugar and vinegar. Mix well, bring to the boil and then boil over high heat to reduce the liquid by half. Stir often. Depending on the size of your pot and the heat of your fire, this should take 15 minutes, but it could be slightly longer or slightly shorter. While the liquid is reducing, it should thicken and become a rich sauce. Taste the sauce at this point and season with salt and pepper. Keep in mind that some beef stocks are already quite salty, so you might not need salt at all. When you’re happy with the texture of the sauce, remove from the fire. 2 Luck y reade stand a rs 6. While you’re waiting for the sauce to reduce in step 6, braai the steaks over very high heat for chance one of to about 8 minutes. You can salt them before or during the braai. You only need to turn them once w in Jan’s n avaliab ew boo le in Afr on the grid, in other words braai them once per side.

With that in mind, I will select my first two kickers for the team and make sure that they are 85% plus accurate kickers. The outcome of most close games will be determined by the kicker. The psychological advantage for a side to get points when they are available, is massive. Naas Botha’s winning streak of 83% in all the big games that he played is testimony of just that. With this as the backdrop nothing has changed. Have we learned anything? Was continuity created by SARU with the newly appointed coach? Yes, we have got a new coach so that is new but has SARU transferred the knowledge to him or will he get carte blanche to do what he wants. We will have to wait and see.
The next stadium must be packed with not one vacant seat. Every supporter must want to be present and be part of this new journey. We need to get that kind of excitement back into the stands.
The supporting staff should be contributing with new ideas full of adventure and some risk-taking that will stimulate the players and encourage them to experiment at this level. The most important thing is to understand that if you do not take risks, the rewards will be less. That is life.
Yes, we have new players and it is with big excitment that we will sit in front of the TV to evaluate their contribution to the new game that we are looking forward to see… Impact players who will turn the game upside down and players with an uncontaminated free spirit and will to create change.

Strongman training @ www.proactivefitness.co.za
W
e all have watched amazing feats of strength on TV performed by familiar strongman names like Mariusz Pudzianowski, Magnus Samuelsson and Sadrinus Zavikas on World Strongest Man. “What is strongman?” It is not running a triathlon (ironman), amateur boxing (toughman), or powerlifting or bodybuilding. It is a way of sculpting your physique through immense gains in strength and size through the use of select equipment. It taxes the entire muscular and mental system and leads to complete development.
Another component is to develop speed and endurance. A strong feature of strongman training is that it revolves around functional moves. A very select few gyms have necessary equipment to offer this training. At Proactive, Johan Kruger, will offer individual and group classes for this. Strongman training is the most intensive way to build a most muscular physique to handle these heavy weights.

Unmatched gains in strength and muscularity is a direct result from training with the “Giant Yoke”, “The Farmers Walk”, “The Apollon Axle Press”, “The Truck Pull”, “Sled Drag” and similar disciplines. Johan Kruger, well known and certified personal trainer, competitive power lifter and strongman participant will now run regular classes from the Proactive Gym. If you are interested in this way of training, please contact Johan on 073 166 3489 or at the gym on 028 313 2074.

What it takes to be an estate agent (a good one). a leader. “Estate agents are notoriously bad when it comes to providing feedback to their clients!” This is just one of the complaints heard frequently by property purchasers and sellers. The question is: “Are there any real professional estate agents out there?” I believe that there are… but what does it take to ensure professionalism and what should buyers and sellers be on the lookout for? My advice to them is: deal with agents who are leaders and can handle challenges and complexity and who demonstrate a high level of understanding and therefore can and do communicate effectively. This, of course, requires real estate knowledge and the ability to apply it authentically, realistically and sincerely. Authenticity being the keyword… Authenticity relies on emotional intelligence; in other words, the person’s identity must be authentic. Having an authentic identity is the highest form of emotional intelligence and it presupposes confidence, humility, integrity and empathy. Self-awareness and an ability to regulate how you act on your emotions are crucial components of emotional intelligence. Authenticity is very refreshing and it is much easier to be receptive to authentic people… but, there are also so few of them. Ego and pretense are so common and accepted that it is easy to forget what authenticity is. Therefore, the more someone dares to open up and shows him/herself as a vulnerable human being, the easier it will be to serve their clients with integrity…and provide regular feedback! Next time we will discuss what knowledge your estate agent should possess to ensure the most professional approach.

Eerste Addisionele Taal, Gr. 9. Onder links: Amirah Gabru, Wes-Kaap Wenner in Afrikaans Eerste Addisionele Taal, Gr. 10.

HALFAAMPIESKRAAL SE SKATTE
J
Europese Kasteel gevoel
Jaarlikste reise bring altyd iets nuuts
