Perhaps you’d like to get ahead on making some thoughtful gifts or add a handmade touch to your holiday table. Two of my intentions this season are to update our mantel with special Hanukkah decorations (p. 10) and plan a night with my boys coloring our craft table (p. 40).

CUSTOMIZE WITH YOUR OWN DESIGN OR PICK FROM OUR MARKETPLACE TO COMPLEMENT YOUR HOLIDAY DÉCOR
Materials you’ll need: 1 yard of Lightweight Cotton Twill, 3 1⁄2 yards of twill tape ribbon or cotton webbing (1� wide), sewing machine, scissors, thread, straight pins, safety pin, measuring tape, chalk or fabric marker, an iron and free digital pattern. 1.
Iron your fabric print side down. Fold one edge of your fabric into the center of the yard. Line up your apron body piece along the fold, and cut around it. Cut out two pocket pieces from the remainder of your yard.
2.
Press and fold the top 1⁄4� edge of the apron toward the wrong side then press and fold another ½�. Pin and top stitch. Repeat with the sides and bottom edge.

To create the casing for your apron ties, press sides inward toward the wrong side of the fabric about ¼�, and stitch along the edge to secure.

Fold the diagonal edges over again about 2 ¼�, press and pin in place. Stitch along the edges with ¼� seam.
TIP: Be sure the bottom openings of your casings line up across the width of the apron. 5.
Assemble the pocket by pinning the two pocket pieces together, right sides facing. Sew the edges with a ½� seam, leaving a small opening along the top. Turn the pocket right side out; pin and sew the top edge to close.

Pin the pocket piece to the apron in line with the base of the casing. Sew around the sides and bottom of the pocket to secure it to your apron, being careful not to catch the casing in your stitches.
7.
Mark a line down the pocket about 8� from either edge. Sew from top to bottom to create a divide in the pocket.

Attach the safety pin to one side of the twill tape for the apron tie. Feed it through the casing starting at the waist, out the top, down into the other side of the neckline, and out the other side of the waist. Fold over the ends of your ties and finish as desired. You’re done! Get cookin’.

HERE IS A QUICK GUIDE TO MAKE YOUR OWN. Materials you’ll need: 1 yard of Fleece fabric, ribbon or complementary scrap fabric for strap, sewing machine, coordinating thread and free digital pattern. 1.
Cut the pattern pieces, then fold your yard of fabric in half and cut out your pieces so you have two of each. TIP: You can make two stockings from 1 yard of fabric.
2.
Sew sock by pinning the right sides together and sewing around the edge with a 1⁄4" seam allowance.
3.
Assemble the white cuff by placing the printed sides together and sewing the short edges of the cuff.

style. Follow along to learn how to make your own! STEP 2: Trace your pants
|
Materials you’ll need: 3 yards of Fleece or Minky fabric, a pair of your own pants, 1" wide elastic, scissors, thread, sewing machine and saftey pin. 1.
Fold your yards of Fleece in half. Fold your pair of pants in half, leg over leg, and line up the outer leg seam of your pants on the fold.
2.
Trace the shape of your pants onto the fabric, adding extra seam allowance extending 1.5" on the side, 2" from the top of your pants, and 3" from your hem. Cut out two pieces in this fashion.
3.
Match up your two pant pieces and, with right sides together, sew along the top curved seams on either side. This will create your crotch seams.
4.
Keeping the right sides together, open up the pants and line up the inseams of each pant leg. Stitch entire curve of the inseam into place.
5.
To form the waistband, create a channel for the elastic at the top of the pants. With the wrong side facing you, fold over the top of the pants by 1 1⁄4", leaving room for your elastic. Stitch along the folded edge of your channel with a ⅜" seam allowance, leaving a 1" opening between the beginning and end of your stitch line. You’ll feed the elastic through this opening.
6.
Measure your waist, and cut a length of elastic to match that measurement. With a safety pin attached to one end of the elastic, feed the elastic through the waistband channel, taking care not to twist the elastic.

Tips for Designing ON SPOONFLOWER
From kids' art & photos to watercolor & sketches, it all belongs at Spoonflower. Image Size When creating your design, you will need a minimum of 150 pixels for every inch of your final print dimension. For example, if you'd like an image to print at 4" by 4", you'll want to prepare your file so that it measures at least 600 by 600 pixels, since 4 x 150 pixels = 600. You can use this formula to size any image— just multiply the print width and height in inches by 150 pixels. DPI When you upload a design, it's converted to 150 DPI (dots per inch), which can cause some unexpected changes in scale if your image is not already at 150 DPI. You can use the “Smaller” or “Bigger” buttons on the design page or enter a specific DPI by clicking on the “Change DPIˮ link. Once you make an adjustment, don't forget to click “Save this Layout” to make the change stick. Design Preview Keep in mind that the preview window is the best way to predict how your design will print. The rulers along the edge of the preview window are also a great way to estimate the scale of a print. For example, if you notice that your design is cut off in the preview, it will be cut off on your fabric. Additionally, each fabric prints at a specific width, so be sure to check that your design is not wider than the fabric you're ordering. Repeat Options Once you upload your design to Spoonflower, you can choose to either center it or use our software to create a repeat. A basic repeat just creates tiles of your design straight up and down, while a half-drop or half-brick repeat staggers the tiles vertically or horizontally. The mirror repeat reflects the design both vertically and horizontally. If you're having a hard time picturing what these look like, don't worry—the preview allows you to toggle back and forth between the layout options in real time. Click “Save this Layout” to finalize your selections.

1. Click on “Design” in the navigation bar and then select “Upload”. 2. Select your file. We recommend uploading a JPG or PNG file at 150 dpi (dots per inch). All files should be under 40 MB in size. We also accept TIF and GIF formats. 3. Confirm that you own rights to the design. We respect the rights of artists and so should you. You retain the sole copyright for all original artwork that you upload. 4. Click Upload. Ta-da! See? Now the fun begins… From here, you can play with repeat options. Choose to center your design or create a basic, half-drop, half-brick, or mirror repeat. Add a title, tags, keywords and description to your design. Completing this important information will ensure that other users and potential customers can find your design in the Spoonflower Marketplace and through web searchs. Sell your design. Proof your work by ordering a swatch of your design on fabric (swatches cost just $5). Ensure that the colors and quality are what you expected. If you need to do some tweaking, you can go back to your design and make all the necessary changes. Once you're pleased, make it available for sale!
