2022 OFFICIAL RACE GUIDE

FEATURING THE

Richmond’s favorite cookie.

Richmond’s favorite race.

WELCOME! We’re finally BACK on Monument Avenue and we couldn’t be more excited! We can’t think of a better way to kick off springtime in RVA than with the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger! It’s hard to believe that this will be the 23rd running of the 10k, and we feel so grateful to have had our community behind us for all these years. This year is going to be a party! There is nothing quite like the atmosphere of race day at the #Ukrops10k. The buzz in the air is palpable and there seems to never be a shortage of smiles, encouragement, and enthusiasm when we join together on Broad Street to embark on the 6.2-mile journey up and down Monument Avenue. Your continued support and flexibility over the past couple of years is the reason we’ve been working to make this year better than ever, and we think Mother Nature is even on our side— hello blue skies and spring flowers! Whether this is your first #Ukrops10k or your 23rd (yes, we really do have people that have done it every year), I know we can all agree that the

community is what makes this event so special. As you all take turns toeing or dancing across the start line, Richmond community members will line Monument Avenue to cheer on their friends, family members, coworkers, and perfect strangers. Bands, DJs, and spirit groups provide local entertainment, over-the-top cheer sections, and the encouragement needed to reach the finish line. Residents along Monument Avenue add a unique blend of energy and excitement to the event atmosphere—some hang hard-to-miss banners on the front of their home, while others pass out treats and have themedparties. Soak it all in because this year promises to be special! Thank you for your support. Enjoy reaching the finish line!

Event Charity

Kids Run RVA, a program of Sports Backers, is committed to improving the health of all Richmond area youth by encouraging routine physical activity. We do this by supporting school and community based kids running clubs and the coaches who lead those clubs. As an official charity of the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k, donations to Kids Run RVA help us to provide free training opportunities for youth of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds as well as funding to support school-based run clubs and events. For schools with fewer resources, Kids Run RVA grants can additionally cover transportation and entry fees to Sports Backers events—like the Atlantic Union Bank 10k Mini—which serve as celebrations of the students’ discipline and hard work. We invite each of you to learn more about how you can get involved with Kids Run RVA. Each time a child laces up his or her shoes, you will be giving them the most important gift of all: a path to good health and fitness! Give a gift today and give kids the gift of good health >

THE RACE IS ON! And we’re excited to be your sponsor. Atlantic Union Bank is proud to be the official sponsor of the 10k Mini, a family-friendly event where everyone can come together and celebrate our amazing community. There’s nothing more important to us than the well-being of the people we serve.

RACE DAY PARKING & TRANSIT We want parking to be the least of your concerns on race day, and with so many options and proper planning, it can be!

GRTC PULSE OFFERS FREE BUS RIDES FOR ALL! The GRTC Pulse is Zero Fare! There are a handful of bus stops located within a short walking distance to the start line at Broad Street and Harrison Street. Plan your trip now with the GRTC Trip Planner.

RIDE YOUR BIKE Bike Valet service will be available near the corner of Franklin St & Pine St from 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Race Day for registered 10k participants. Your bike will be in good hands while you enjoy the festivities!

RIDESHARE RideShare is always a good option these days! To avoid road closures, we suggest using 711 W Main Street as your drop-off point.

PAID PARKING DECKS These spaces fill quickly but you can pre-purchase your parking spot and reserve a spot now!

STREET PARKING The City of Richmond offers ample street parking. We recommend going east of Belvidere to find on-street and surface-lot parking. Keep in mind that these are always first-come, first-serve and road closures might affect availability. Click here for more information on road closures and parking restrictions.

To lessen the chance of getting stuck in traffic, please avoid the Belvidere exits off I-95 and I-195, and instead go farther east and exit on 3rd Street, Broad Street, or Franklin Street. 14

Race Info WAVE START INFORMATION & SCHEDULE What are Waves? It’s pretty simple actually. Instead of one big start with all 20,000 people taking off at once, we divide everyone into almost 30 waves. Each wave is organized by people’s expected pace so that everyone can run with others their own speed. Waves start with the fastest runners, then go to slower runners, then joggers, then walkers. You selected your own wave when you registered. While lining up on Broad Street, please look for the volunteer holding the wave sign that corresponds to your bib. For example, if the wave listed on your bib number is SB, then you will look for the “SB” sign. Your group will be walked into the starting corral as the start time for your wave approaches. Wave Security will be on hand to make sure that you are lined up with the correct wave. PLEASE NOTE: • If you wish to start with someone who is in a different wave, you may do so by starting in the slower person’s wave. In other words, you may drop back to a slower wave, but no one may move up to a faster wave. THIS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED! •B e sure to pin your bib number to the front of your shirt. You must wear your bib number to be admitted into the starting corral. Your race number also contains your timing device. Please do not bend or fold your bib as this may damage the timing device and prevent you from receiving an accurate time. •R emember, we have chip timing to record your exact start time, so your results will accurately reflect the time it took you to run the race no matter which corral you start in.
