July 2015 BOREDOM among the crazy football fanatics will soon be history when clubs in the Absa Premiership return to action for the 2015/16 Season. Defending league champions, Kaizer Chiefs start their title defense campaign against Chippa United in an away match on August 8. But before that, the Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans will have been enjoyed to watch their idols when the two giants clash in the forthcoming annual Carling Black Label Cup. The match is scheduled for August 1 at the FNB Stadium.

It will be a sad day for the Mpumalanga Black Aces players should the status of the club be sold to AmaZulu if the rumours doing rounds are true. That will mean all the players who are not under-23 will kiss goodbye their careers as the club will have to play with the status of AmaZulu's National First Division (NFD). On the other hand we congratulate Bafana Bafana for their aggregate 5-2 victory over Mauritius in the CHAN qualiers. Moving to rugby, we would like to wish our national team, The

Springbok all the best as they prepare for the 2015 World Cup in England. The competition start on September 13 and we hope that our Die Bokke will remain in that country until the last day, October 31 during the nal match. South Africa kick-start their campaign against Samoa in Pool B on September 26 at the Villa Park. The last time the Springbok won the world cup was in 1995 when they hosted the competition.

JOHANNESBURG's Bree Primary School, representing Gauteng, are the 2015 Danone Nation Cup champions. They beat the Free State champions, Nelson Mandela Primary School 2-0 in the nal of the national playoffs in Reiger Park last Saturday to take the national title and, with it, earn the chance to represent the country at the Danone Nations Cup world nals in Morocco later in the year. “We are back where we belong,” said an excited coach, Bafana Dlamini, as this is the third time the school Bree has taken the national crown and in 2009 they went all the way, winning the Danone Nations Cup World title. “The players are still celebrating, although I am sure it has not sunk in yet that we will be heading to Morocco later in the year,” he said. “We worked extremely hard from the beginning, I know it sounds like a cliché, but hard work ensures success and we have proven that. This team is similar to one in 2009 that won the world nals, they are hard workers, they are determined and they are very disciplined.” The national nals were very tough and competitive, Dlamini said, but the team had home ground advantage and that made them even more determined. “All the schools were in it to win. I

was surprised that the school from KZN didn't qualify for the nal match as they were the dominant team at the nationals, but it goes to show that any school can win the nationals and that it's important to win all your games.” The coach was condent going into the nal match. “On hearing that we were meeting Nelson

Mandela in the nal game I knew that we had it in the bag as we were stronger than the Free State team. They were slower than us and our 2 goals came quite easily. It was not a tough nal for us.” Its school holidays now, so the players will have a bit of a rest. They can relax and enjoy telling everyone that they are going to Morocco, said the coach. “But that will change as soon as schools reopens as we have scheduled a training programme for the team,” Dlamini said, “and I will solicit some coaching help from outside. Lucky Shiburi (goalkeeper coach for the national team) is a close friend of

mine, I will be asking him for assistance as we prepare for the Morocco,” Dlamini said. They will be sticking to their strengths, which is playing on the ground with no long or high passes. “That style got us here and we will keep it up,” Dlamini said. He stresses that the victory was a team effort. “Credit must be given to the entire team. They played brilliantly and we were very impressed at how they managed to maintain their cool and do what we have taught them to do from the beginning. “I must, however, give credit to Ntando Simayile, our captain. I have been privileged to have coached him for 5 years now. He is an exceptional player, very disciplined and committed to the sport. Another player who stood out, the c o a c h s a i d , w a s Ts h e p o Baitshumedi. “His skills are on point, he scored a fantastic goal from quite a distance when we played against Benny's. Another star on the day was Gomolemo Dladla, who has performed consistently throughout the tournament, scoring three goals, said Dlamini “I have been coaching these boys for 5 years now, I have been preparing them for this and they have proved that they are ready. There is a lot of hard work ahead for us, but we are up for it,” Dlamini concluded.

SAFCA QUESTIONS THE PROCESS OF APPOINTING TECHNICAL DIRECTOR THE South African Football Coaches Association (SAFCA) is e The disappointed SAFCA's H e a d o f Te c h n i c a l S i m o n Ngomane xtremely disappointed with the appointment of the country's Technical Director (TD) before a Technical Authority is put in place. With the recent acceptance of the National Playing Philosophy (NPP) as presented by SAFCA at the Technical Workshop convened by SAFA on June 4-5 2015 at SAFA House co-chaired by SAFA CEO Dennis Mumble and CEO of Development Agency DrRobin Petersen. SAFCA was awaiting a second round of talks to nalise critical issues like transforming the technical structure and the coaching curriculum. The reluctance to implement and execute the Technical Authority in line with Article 45 of the SAFA statutes is a major concern to SAFCA. Article 45 talks of the Technical and Developmental committee which deals with holistic technical matters. This committee must comprise of coaches with impeccable technical expertise. SAFCA president Greg Mashilo says he learned about the appointment of the new TD in the media. “I was surprised to learn about Neil Tovey's appointmentin the news media, as a member of the Technical Committee and as part of the leadership of the Coaching body I'm expected to report to our members on technical matters like this one, and I'm just in the dark and the status quo puts SAFCA in a very precarious situation in the eyes of our members”; said Mashilo. SAFCA is not informed of any criteria/qualication requirements/expertise, etc. to b e c o n s i d e r e d i n recruiting/appointing the TD. In normal circumstances such a key position should have been advertised (as per Technical Committee previous released information) so that other candidates can be offered a fair and equal opportunity for the job.

Already there are countless complains about the procedure used by SAFA disregarding other candidates from the process. SAFCA's Head of Technical Simon Ngomane says the coaches are beginning to question the sincerity of the Technical Workshop and the acceptance of the NPP as presented by SAFCA. Ngomane says the appointment of the TD comes in the wake of the Technical Workshop between SAFCA and SAFA, and it might

give the impression to our members that the Coaching body was consulted on this critical matter of appointing a TD. “SAFCA is a constitutional body with a mandate to deal with Technical matters, we nd it very problematic that the football governing body in the country can accept SAFCA's National Playing Philosophy and in the same token brush aside other critical technical judicious processes that would have ended with a transparent, l e g i t i m a t e , f a i r, a n d quality assured appointment. We are also extremely concerned by the allegations that the existing SAFA Technical Committee played no part in this critical appointment, whether the allegations are true or not, the status quo is not conducive hence SAFCA's call for a total transformation of the Technical Structure in our football. The days of SAFCA existing only to vote during election time

are over, the organisation is involved in extensive research and there is a body of Technical work that can be utilised to move our football forward, the Playing Philosophy is but one of the many researched methodologies that can be utilised fully to develop our game provided we are afforded space and resources to work”; added Ngomane. SAFCA reiterates that the essence of redressing the serious technical deciencies in our football depends on the introduction and adoption of a Technical Authority. Our football need as a matter of outmost urgency a committee of highly experienced technicians that will be responsible for quality assurance of all coaching and technical matters. The recently accepted Playing Philosophy cannot exist in a vacuum; hence the importance of establishing a Technical Authority to drive the ideals of high performance for international excellence. SAFCA members have raised serious concerns about the continuous undermining of the coaching structure on Technical matters.

COCA-COLA YOUTH WEEKS WELL UNDER-WAY THE annual Coca-Cola Youth Week festivals begin this week with the Under-13 Coca-Cola Craven Week, kicking-off a month of the best in schoolboy rugby. The Coca-Cola Youth Weeks take place annually and comprise of four age categorised rugby tournaments in which schoolboys representing their respective regions, compete against one another such as the U-13 Coca-Cola Craven Week, the U-16 Coca-Cola Grant Khomo Week, the U-18 Coca-Cola Academy Week and the U-18 CocaCola Craven Week. The Coca-Cola Youth Weeks are where our country's future rugby heroes are made. Now in its 52nd year, Coca-Cola® Craven Week has become synonymous as the platform for showcasing the best in South African youth rugby talent. The under-18 Coca-Cola Craven Week has seen over 270 future Springboks come through its ranks, additionally, the SA Under-20 team is nearly entirely made up of players who have played in one or more of the Coca-Cola Youth Weeks. To highlight the talent that will no doubt be uncovered at this year's Coca-Cola Craven Week, a Coca-Cola judging panel will once again be selecting and recognising the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day. This daily award will honour the standout player on each match day of the u18 week to be held in Stellenbosch from the 13 – 18 July. The Coca-Cola Hero of the Day is not necessarily your

typical man of the match. He is the fullback who made that courageous try-saving tackle, the kicker who slotted a nal second penalty for the win or the winger who scored an amazing intercept try. It is hero moments such as these which can earn a player the prestigious Coca-Cola Hero of the Day award. Additionally, in acknowledging the massive role that schools play in the development of South Africa's future rugby heroes, CocaCola has taken the “Hero of the Day” concept to social media! Coca-Cola are searching for South Africa's ultimate school rugby hero. Whether it's the star y-half, a dedicated supporter or the U13 water boy, they want to know their story. The winner

and their school will be awarded with amazing rugby related prizes. Fetsi Mbele, Coca-Cola South Africa Marketing Assets Manager comments, “CocaCola South Africa is extremely proud to support the development of South Africa's next rugby heroes through the Coca-Cola Youth Weeks. This will be the 30th year of our sponsorship – we have had the privilege of witnessing rst-hand the success of the Coca-Cola Youth Weeks and the incredible foundation they have created for schoolboy rugby in South Africa. The Coca-Cola Youth Weeks also signify the importance of living an active healthy lifestyle through participation in sport. Coca-Cola's philosophy in sponsoring

CHIEFS CRIPPLED AHEAD OF 2015'S

KAIZER Chiefs fans will have their coaching acumen tested, due to the recent announcement that defender Erick Mathoho will not be eligible for the Carling Black Label Cup match on August 1. Mathoho who had surgery at the end of last season was ruled out of the prestigious Carling Black Label derby clash against Orlando Pirates, following the results of his recent tness test at the club. With Tefu Mashamaite having left the club and Morgan Gould still in rehabilitation from his injury, it means Chiefs supporters will need to use all their coaching knowledge to pick, once again the right backline for the clash. Chiefs' side will even look differently for the rst time without long serving former captain Itumeleng Khune and the energetic Mandla

Masango who have since left the club. Other options for the Amakhosi fans include: Uganda international Ivan Bukenya, young rising star Lourenzo Gordinho and possibly a move for Siboniso Gaxa from rightback to the centre. “This situation depicts what real coaching is all about, deciding the best course of action to take when your rst-choice selections are not available and it will be a true test of character and skill for the Kaizer Chiefs Champion Coaches,” say Vijay Govidsamy, General Manager – Carling Black Label. Supporters can keep voting for their favourites by purchasing a Carling Black Label beer and dialing *120*660*. They then enter their unique underliner code and #.

BRIAN BALOYI RETURNS TO KAIZER CHIEFS KAIZER Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi has been appointed as assistant goalkeeper coach of the club. The 41-year-old will work with rst team goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker for the next six months, being groomed to take over when the German returns to Europe, possibly at the end of this year. Baloyi is also going to work with the youth development, together with another goalkeeper coach, Rory Minnaar. “I am really happy to be back home,” Baloyi told www.kaizerchiefs.com. “This is the place where it all started for me and where my career as a professional player took off.” Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung added: “We welcome Brian back with us. “He comes highly recommended by Rainer, who has done a tremendous

BAKWENA N1/N4 TOLLS CELEBRATES 15

IN 2000, October 4 Bakwena signed a Concession Contract with the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) to construct, manage, maintain and upgrade the N1 and N4 roads and has to date successfully met and exceeded expectations to ensure these routes operate to world-class standards. Bakwena is responsible for maintaining a 95 kilometre stretch of road from the north of Ts h w a n e t o B e l a B e l a (Warmbaths), as well as a 290 kilometre section of the N4 from t h e Ts h w a n e t h r o u g h Rustenburg and Zeerust to the Botswana border at Skilpdahek. Bakwena was the rst company in South Africa to offer a system of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) and successfully implemented ETC using e-tags with the same basic technology as the Open Road Tolling system (ORT) that is being deployed on the Gauteng freeways. Bakwena currently operates two

trafc control centres on behalf of SANRAL, the Mantsole Trafc Control Centre (MTCC) and Bapong Trafc Control Centre (BTTC), to ensure that vehicles using the roads are not overloaded and are roadworthy. The MTCC is the agship of trafc control centres in South Africa and controls truck loading on the N1 and R101 to reduce wear and tear on the road and the potential for accidents due to overloading. Based on Bakwena's success in managing the MTCC, SANRAL subsequently contracted Bakwena to carry out the same function at the BTCC on the N4. Owing to an increase in trafc volumes, Bakwena has built dual carriageways in various areas along the route to achieve a better ow of trafc that reduces travelling time. Bakwena sponsored the research and publication of 'The Platinum Road Book' written by Peter Delmar to add value to the driving experiences of

customers who use the Bakwena roads, to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and to increase the appreciation of very important elements of South Africa's heritage in this area. Since its launch in 2013, and in response to the positive feedback received, Bakwena extended a further sponsorship for 'The Platinum Road Book' to be developed into a mobile app. The app works using the GPS location of the device that the traveller is using. Based on the location of the traveller, the app will automatically start telling the anecdotal stories of certain points along the N1 and N4 as the traveller approaches them. Bakwena constantly monitors trafc, analyses trends, proactively takes corrective action, assesses whether infrastructure needs to be enhanced to increase safety and provides a 24/7 route-assistance and customer-care service – all to create a safer driving experience. In addition, when

certain trafc thresholds are reached, additional lanes and intersection improvements are implemented to ensure that trafc ow is maintained at satisfactory levels. The upgrading of the N1 between the Proefplaas and Zambezi interchanges was completed successfully in May 2013. This contract provided four lanes in both directions which ties in with the GFIP lane conguration. The construction cost was R240million (Excl VAT). The upgrading of the N1 between the Zambezi interchange and Pumulani Plaza commenced in August 2013 and included the provision of a third lane from the Zambezi interchange up to the Pumulani Plaza and the widening of the Zambezi Bridge to accommodate the three lanes in both directions. The work was successfully completed by December 2014 at a cost of R130 million.

YEARS OF SUCCESS ON ROAD SAFETY

The contract for the rehabilitation of national route, N1 Section 23, between Pienaarsrivier and Bela-Bela, (km 13.4 to km 42.6) commenced on 7 January 2014 and currently being completed. The tender period for this contract is 18 months. The contract makes provision for 310mm deep milling of the slow lane and construction of a 200mm stabilised sub-base in identied areas. This is followed by a 110mm bitumen treated base and 40mm asphalt overlay with rolled-in chips. On the remaining sections where no sub-base is required, 110 mm deep milling of the existing slow lane will be done and replaced with 110 mm bitumen-treated base followed by a 40 mm asphalt overlay with rolled-in chips. A geotextile (GlassGrid) will be placed in the bitumentreated base. This project is one of the largest projects in the world that is using GlassGrid as

part of a rehabilitation project. A subsurface drain will also be installed in both directions over the full extent of the contract to assist with managing the high water table in this area. In line with the Concession Contract's geometric standards, the grade of the super-elevation will also be improved during this contract with 2% increased to 3% - where applicable. The contract was completed the end of March 2015 well within the construction period and budget. The cost of this project was R275 million. The upgraded works are being extended in 2015 to include the upgrading of Sefako Makghato Drive Interchange to improve capacity constraints at the interchange terminals. Bakwena has completed the second section of the additional carriageway on the N4 between the Brits West Interchange (R512) and Buffelspoort Interchange. The contract entailed building a second

carriageway with bridges, as well as lengthening of existing bridges, culverts and interchange improvements to cater for the new carriageway. The total cost of this contract was ± R380 million and the dual carriageway was opened in midNovember 2014. The second phase of the rehabilitation of the N4 between Swartruggens and Rustenburg commenced in July 2013 and was successfully completed by December 2014. The total project cost was approximately R200 million. The entire road from the town of Zeerust through to Groot Marico will be rehabilitated in 20152017.The entire road section will be rehabilitated. This project started in April 2015 at a cost of approximately R250 million for the current phase. At Bakwena road safety is our priority. Bakwena's accident statistics for the rst quarter of 2015 are very encouraging as no

fatalities were recorded on N1 in January through to April. In 2014 on the N4 we had 18 fatalities between January to March and 6 on the N1, in 2015 there were 3 fatalities on the N4 and none on the N1 during the same period. There were no fatalities over the 2015 Easter period. The Tshwane Metro and other trafc authorities have worked closely with Bakwena and PtOps route patrollers and are visible on the N1N4. Accesses to the highway have been closed off, pedestrian fence erected on N1 north of Zambezi plaza which has resulted in positive road safety results for the rst quarter of 2015. Accurate and timeous reporting of incidents and accidents are improving with the implementation of the new national RIMS (Road Incident Management System) framework from government administered by SANRAL.

BRILLIANT BAFANA BAFANA WALLOP MAURITIUS IN SHOW OF FORCE Bafana Bafana completed a double over Mauritius beating the Indian Ocean islanders 20 in this CHAN return leg match played at Anjalay Stadium on a humid Sunday afternoon. Having lost 3-0 in the rst leg, Mandla Masango's low free kick in the 68th minute and a l a t e g o a l b y Wa n d i s i l e Letlabika consigned the islanders to a comprehensive 5-0 aggregate defeat. Bafana will now play Angola for a place in the CHAN nals scheduled for Rwanda next year. Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba's boys started brightly in the opening minutes, buoyed by a considerable support from the South African embassy staff, pinning the hosts in their own half. Gift Motupa with a erce free kick in the 14th minute was the rst to really test the hosts and Mandla Masango followed up with another sizzling shot on the 20th minute but on both occasions, Mauritius survived. Siphelele Ntshangase then blasted over the bar in the 23rd minute from inside the box from a William Twala cross as Bafana Bafana continued to probe the hosts' goal area. Masango was proving a thorn in the esh for Mauritius orchestrating most of the Bafana moves. Captain Itumeleng Khune then rushed off his line in the 35th minute in one of Mauritius rare attacks. Another string of passes produced another delicate chance but Masango's nal product was not good enough to trouble the Mauritius goal-

minder on the 40th min. The hosts immediately manufactured their own attack but Khune was at his best foiling Kevin Jean Louis. Ntshangase then ried a close effort tantalisingly wide

an own goal by the Mauritius defence as the referee blew for half-time whistle. The second half followed more or less the rst half pattern with South Africa showing more intent and

as the match headed for halftime deadlocked at 0-0. Mauritius survived a major scare when Gabuza went on a run on the right ank and his cross was almost turned into

Mauritius relying on sporadic counter-attacks. Nyatama made a maze run a few minutes after the break but was foiled when he was about to open re.

Letlabika then made a great cross inside the box from a good Ntshangase run but Mauritius defence again cleared the danger. In another rare Mauritius attack, Vincent Lafourde outpaced Kwanda Mngonyama but his effort went wide of the diving Khune. Bafana's William Twala saw his effort come off the cross bar as the hosts survived again before Nyatama's vicious effort was saved by Mauritius keeper. Mandla Masango's close range effort was again parried back by the outstanding Mauritius goalkeeper as the visitors continued to chase for what appeared an elusive opening goal. It was not long though before Bafana got the opening goal in the 68th minute when Masango's shot from a freekick, awarded just outside the box, was helped into an own net by the Mauritius defender to give the visitors a deserved goal. Letlabika then made it 2-0 towards the end of the match following a delicate build up by Bafana. Bafana Bafana starting lineup Itumeleng Khune (C), Tshepo Gumede, Kwanda M n g o n y a n a , Wa n d i s i l e Letlabika, Lehlohonolo Nonyane, Gift Motupa, W i l l i a m Tw a l a , M u s a Nyatama, Mandla Masango, Thamsanqa Gabuza, Siphelele Ntshangase Subs: Jackson Mabokgwane, Vukile Mgqibisa, Modjeka Madisha, Thabang Monare, Bonginkosi Ntuli, Ndumiso Mabena, Thabo Mnyamane.
