Oct 2015 Let me take this opportunity to congratulate our rugby's senior national team, Springboks for qualifying to the next round of the Rugby World Cup underway in England. This comes after the team's poor start against Japan whom against our imaginations did unthinkable thing after they beat our boys 34-32 in that opening match. Everyone though the Japanese were gonna be an easy meal for our boys, but it was not as easy as we

though. The Boks however proved their critics wrong when they bounced back, beating Samoa 46-6, and then Scotland 34-16 before they could turn their heat to USA whom they embarrassed with a 64-0 (see back page for the results against USA). Moving to football, we congratulate Orlando Pirates for their outstanding performance that saw them brushed aside the Egyptian giants, Al Ahly during the

seminals of the CAF Confederations Cup. Winning 1-0 at home and 4-3 away in Egypt was something unthinkable against the giant side of Al Ahly's caliber who are the competition's defending champions. We also take this opportunity to wish Bree Primary School the best of luck as they will be heading for Morocco to participate in the Under-12 Danone Nations Cup World Cup.

BREE'S PREPARATIONS FOR DANONE WORLD GOING WELL

COMPETITION

PREPARATIONS for Bree Primary School's trip to M o r o c c o i n O c t o b e r, t o represent South Africa at the under-12 Danone Nations Cup World football Finals, are going well. Based on previous world nals it has been a p p a re n t th a t th e S o u th African players have generally been smaller than their opponents, so this year the team has been playing practice games against older, bigger teams so that they can get used to the physical challenge, and formulate tactics to counter bigger opposition. They played a Mamelodi Sundowns Youth Academy Under-13 team last month, and beat them 4 - 1 and this was followed up last week with a game against the Wits University under-13 side. Bree lost the game 3-2, but showed plenty of tenacity and determination and gained a lot of good experience from the encounter. They rose to the challenge well and did not buckle against a powerful, experienced team. There were some excellent performances by the Bree players, including goalkeeper Mncedisi and midelder, Ntuthuko but it was team captain and central defender, Ntando Simayile, who led by example and was their best player on the night. Ntando came to Bree in 2009 and has played in the Danone Nations Cup for the past two

years. He was made captain this year due to his experience and his leadership qualities and is looking forward to going to Morocco. The team's preparations also gained more momentum when they were recently handed over with kit by their technical sponsor Mille during a colorful function held at the Mille Ofce in Crown Mines, Jozi. "I want to watch all the other countries to see how they play and learn from them," Ntando said. "I want to be a professional player one day and seeing how other countries play and how they prepare for games will benet me." Ntando is very interested in Brazil. "I'm impressed with the skills and speed of Brazilian players," he said. "They are also usually smaller, like us, yet they cope with playing against stronger bigger

players. We can learn a lot from them." Bree beat the Sundowns team quite easily, but Ntando said Wits was a different ball game. "They were much tougher opposition and I'm happy with the way the team played. We were aggressive and went in there to win. I hope we get more practise games like that before we leave in October." Apart from his professional football dreams, music and dancing is Ntando's passion and he is hoping to be a DJ one day. His favourite is DJ Zinthle. "I like her voice and the way she mixes music. I listen to a lot of music and much of it could be improved and that is what I want to do. I am going to work on a singing and dancing routine for Morocco. I have heard that the other countries particularly like the way we dance and I don't want to disappoint them this year."

TIME TO PREPARE FOR THE SPAR JOBURG CHALLENGE

Buittengeluk, JohannesburgSpring is here, which means it is time for the women of Joburg to take to the roads to prepare for

of Gold's most beautiful suburbs. The 10km route takes the runners along Corlett Drive and Oxford Road as far as Riviera

t h e S PA R W o m e n ' s 1 0 k m Challenge at the Wanderers Sporting Club on Sunday October 11. The 10km Challenge and the 5km Fun Run have become an important part of the Joburg social calendar, with thousands of women of all ages, and from all walks of life, taking part. While Joburg cannot boast sparkling sea views, the Sonja Laxton-designed course winds its way through some of the City

Road in Killarney, before zigzagging back through some of Joburg's leaest suburbs. The 5km route meanders through the plush suburbs of Illovo, Melrose, Birdhaven and AthollOaklands, giving runners and walkers a chance to peek at some of the most beautiful gardens in Johannesburg. As always, there are some wonderful prizes on offer, in addition to the substantial cash prizes for the top 10 runners.

There is a lucky draw for a SPAR voucher worth R15 000, the very popular Bring-a-Buddy competition, generous offers of computers and equipment for schools with the most entries, but the most exciting of all is that one lucky runner will win a brand new Suzuki Celerio motor car. But everyone is a winner on the day, with medals and goodie bags for the rst 15 000 to cross the nish line. The rst 15 000 to pre-register for the race will receive a free race t-shirt. “Our Women's Challenge race is very important to us,” said SPAR South Rand Marketing Director Martin Webber. “We love our elite runners who are vying for Grand Prix points, and making sure that our races are truly competitive, but we believe the most important part of the races are the thousands of women of Joburg who take part just for fun. “Women do the bulk of shopping at our stores, and we are very happy to be able to say thank you to them by providing them with a really enjoyable day out.” October is Breast Cancer

Awareness Month, and proceeds from the Joburg Challenge will go to support awareness of cancers affecting women. Many women who have conquered breast cancer take part in the race every year, proudly sporting their pink ribbons. The Joburg Challenge will be the nal leg of the national ve race SPAR Grand Prix series. Already this year races have been run in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban and Pretoria and the ght is on for the top season ending spot which will be nalized after the race in October. Leading the Grand Prix is Lebogang Phalula who with a solid Joburg nish should walk away with the R150 000.00 top prize. However with a bunch of athletes challenging for second place on the Grand Prix leaderboard, nothing is guaranteed until after the Joburg race making the Joburg SPAR Women's Challenge a race to watch. There are just a few weeks before the race, but there's still plenty of time to prepare for it. So jump out of bed, put on your training shoes, and get ready to take part in Joburg's celebration of Spring.

THE STAGE IS SET FOR MISS INDONI

TWELVE queens from different cultures will compete for the title of Miss Indoni Cultural SA at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in October. The queens, who were unveiled during a glitz and glamour event at Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg over the weekend, were selected from 12 cultural groups from nine provinces. This year's event also honoured the life of Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the African Union Commission chairperson. At the event Dululu Hlatshaneni from the Department of Basic Education said: “We support such initiatives because we believe that culture should be preserved. There are certain values we need to instil among our children. We encourage provinces to ensure that young girls and boys participate in similar projects. “Often boy children are left behind in matters relating to preserving culture. Education is a societal problem which we should all work hard towards.”

Founder of Indoni Cultural School Dr Nomcebo Mthembu encouraged young women to represent South Africa in a positive way in everything they do. “We also decided to have a lecture on Dr Dlamini-Zuma because it is important to educate our young women on the women of power so they can grow up to emulate them,” she said. For the rst time this year, Indoni will also honour Dlamini-Zuma with an award during the nal pageant on 10 October. The winner will walk away with a car. Meanwhile she the 16 year-old, Mapula Sishayi is looking forward to raise the Limpopo ag up high during this competition when she will be competing as the Pedi Queen. Condence, commonly known as Mapula at her dusty rural village called Ga-Kuranta in Bolobedu outside Tzaneen, Limpopo will be representing Limpopo's Pedi culture during this event and her success in this competition depend

Mapula who has fallen in love with her culture since childhood is not new to cultural modeling as she has done so and won a number of crowns for that record. Her last victory was in 2013 when she scooped Miss Heritage which was held in Giyani. “Before that I also won a number of titles, including Baswa le Metsi in 2010 and other titles which I have lost count,” added the condent Mapula. Mapula whose dream is to

become a psychologist added that: “The love for my culture was inuenced by my grandmother, Mma-Modjadji Sishayi and Makokwena whenever they used to narrate to her some folktales and also singing some cultural songs for me. It is through their effort that I have learnt to be loyal, respect and love my culture” To vote for Mapula sms “Indoni PEDI” to 48496. IN NUMBERS: THE ABSA PREMIERSHIP SO FAR who have won all three games at Bidvest Stadium thus far. Mamelodi Sundowns also has maximum points from their home matches, although they have only played twice at home. 2 - There have been two managerial casualties so far this season, a encouraging sign at this stage of the term. Only Free State Stars and Maritzburg United have removed their coaches and replaced them. Ea Llla Koto have brought in Ernst Middendorp in place of Kinnah Phiri and the Team of Choice let Mandla Ncikazi go to bring in Clive Barker. 2 - Joseph Molangoane has remarkably been sent off twice already for Chippa United. Interestingly, the winger has only seen 180 minutes of action in that time. Both his dismissals have been after collecting two yellow cards, meaning he has four yellows in total THE 2015/16 Absa Premiership season is approaching the end of the rst quarter in the coming few weeks. With the league currently halted due to the latest i n t e r n a t i o n a l w i n d o w, Platinum Stars and Mpumalanga Black Aces are the surprise early pacesetters. The pair both have 14 points and hold a one point advantage over the chasing pack. At the other end of the table, promoted Jomo Cosmos and Maritzburg United prop up the table as the only two clubs still searching for a win in the new campaign. PSL.co.za takes a look at some of the key numbers from

the season thus far. 0 - The league's bottom two clubs, Cosmos in 15th and Maritzburg in 16th have not won a single game between them. In fact, the KwaZuluNatal side's only point this term came in an opening day draw with Jomo Sono's men, who also have two other draws to their credit. 1 - But newly promoted Cosmos' biggest problem this term has been scoring goals. They are the worst scorers in the Absa Premiership to date netting just once so far. That goal was scored by defender Cheslyn Jampies. 1 - Only one team has a 100 percent home record after three matches in front of their fans. That club is Bidvest Wits,

3 - Only three clubs are yet to beaten thus far. They are the top two, Dikwena and AmaZayoni. The third of those is defending champions Kaizer Chiefs. 4 - Moeneeb Josephs may be growing older, but one of South Africa's nest goalkeepers of the past decade is continuing to deliver on the eld. His four clean sheets from six starts is the best return thus far and one of the key reasons why Bidvest Wits are only a point off the top of the table. 4 - Siphiwe Tshabalala was named captain of Chiefs this season and he has undoubtedly lead by example. The veteran midelder leads the charts in terms of assists, providing the nal pass for four

of Amakhosi's goals this term. 4 - The most draws by any club thus far has been Chiefs. Although the reigning champions have won two of their games, they have drawn the other four. 5 - The return to form of Collins Mbesuma has been one of the stories of the season. The former Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns striker has scored all his ve goals in his last three appearances for the club. To add to the worth of the burly frontman, he has also provided two assists so far. 5 - The losing run that Maritzburg United are currently on having lost every match since their round one draw with Cosmos. They will be hoping the appointment of new coach Barker will change their fortunes. 5 - This is also the number of matches since SuperSport United last won a game. It has been a remarkable run of form for Matsatsantsa, a club that invested heavily during the transfer window to bring in the likes of Dean Furman and Bongani Khumalo. They did nally manage to win a game with a 2-1 result against Polokwane City in the Telkom Knockout, but the pressure of the league is certainly on the shoulders of coach Gordon Igesund. 11 - The leading scoring teams thus far have all netted 11 times. They are headed by log leaders Stars, Chiefs in fth and Ajax Cape Town down in seventh position. 14 - Unsurprisingly, the most number of goals conceded have been by Maritzburg. Seven of those goals were shipped in the last two games.-www.psl.co.za

NATIONAL FIRST DIVISION’S FACTS AS the National First Division (NFD) takes a breather during the international break, PSL.co.za sums up in numbers the opening six rounds of action. After 48 matches played, there have been 103 goals scored in the NFD, at an average of 2.15 goals per match, or a goal every 42 minutes. The most goals scored in a single xture was on the opening weekend when Mbombela United and Thanda Royal Zulu shared the spoils in six goal thriller at the Kanyamazane Stadium. Leading the way on the scoring charts are top-of-thetable Baroka FC, with 11 goals from their six outings. The only other team to have hit double

gures in the goal-scoring department is Royal Eagles, with 10 goals. Baroka striker Thabiso Kutumela has also established himself as an early front-runner for the Golden Boot award with his six goals. The two next best scorers, Julius Likontsane of Witbank Spurs and Black Leopards' Thembisani Nevhulamba, are on three goals.

part of any club's league campaign, and Witbank Spurs, ying high in second position, have led the way with four shut-outs in their six matches, Spurs also having conceded the least goals this season, just two. Cape Town All Stars have also kept four clean sheets, and conceded only three goals so far.

On the ip side, bottom-of-thetable Mthatha Bucks have netted just three goals this season, while African Warriors (14th) and Moroka Swallows (12th) have only found the back of the net on four occasions.

Three former Absa Premiership clubs – Thanda Royal Zulu, Santos and Moroka Swallows, will all be concerned over the amount of goals conceded, the trio each having shipped in 11 goals to date at nearly two per game. The bottom two clubs – Mthatha Bucks and Santos, are yet to win this season, while the top three sides – Baroka FC, Witbank Spurs and Cape Town All Stars, have won four of their six games. Its currently tight at the summit, with the top seven teams all within ve or less points of each other. The action continues on the weekend of the 24 and 25 O c t o b e r 2 0 1 5 . www.psl.co.za

BAROKA FC COMFORTABLY IN THE NDF’S DRIVE SEAT BAROKA FC stayed top of the National First Division (NFD) table despite failing to beat Black Leopards in the pick of the matches on Saturday. The rst versus third Limpopo derby clash ended goalless at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, with the result enabling the host to move onto 14 points at the summit. The visitors, meanwhile, dropped down a place to fourth after they were leapfrogged by the new second placed team, Witbank Spurs, who ousted African Warriors 2-1 at Puma Rugby Stadium in Mpumalanga. Spurs entered the clash in fourth place and went ahead early through Peter Mubayiwa, before the Free Staters levelled the scores. But Cleopas Dube grabbed the winner to give the Witbank

Cape Town All Stars failed to capitalise on Baroka's slip-up and an opportunity to climb top after they were held to a goalless draw by Santos at the Athlone Stadium - a result that saw Dan Malesela's men stay third.

Royal Eagles were the big movers on Saturday, jumping four places up the table to fth place following a Katlego Mphela-inspired 3-2 win over Moroka Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.

The People's Team on the other hand remained second bottom on the log, but can drop to last should Mthatha Bucks beat

The former Bafana Bafana netted twice and added to a goal from Nkhanyiso Cele as the ambitious KwaZulu-Natal side surged up the standings. Swallows have now dipped to 12th on the log. Another KZN side Thanda Royal Zulu nally broke their duck of having not won any of their opening ve matches. The men from Richards Bay beat Milano United AFC 2-1 at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex. Sherwin Smith (10) had put

Amabhubesi in front after 10 minutes before Nasief Morris equalised seven minutes into the second half. But Renaldo Spandiel snatched what turned out to be the winner less than 180 seconds later as Thanda moved into 11th position. Finally on Saturday, the other Cape derby went the way of FC Cape Town after they edged Vasco da Gama 2-1 at Parow Park. Nathan Gertse had given the hosts the lead after 18 minutes, but the visitors staged a superb second half comeback, scoring through Siphiwe Gwala (47) and Moeketsi Mvula's 89th minute winner. The result was also FC Cape Town's rst win of the season and moved them to 13th, three p l a c e s b e h i n d Va s c o . www.psl.co.za

SOCCER ACADEMY BREEDS

It has been another year of success and personal growth for the young players of the Tsogo Sun Soccer Academy, as the season closed with an exciting tournament on Saturday 19 September at Lusaka Sports Complex in Swaneville on the West Rand. Gift Mokguo, head of the Soccer Academy and U19 soccer coach, who has been with the programme since its inception in 2010, is enthusiastic about the marked changes that not only he, but also teachers and parents, witness in a large proportion of its plaayers. “One of the biggest changes that we see and are told about is how these boys now show more respect – for their teachers and parents, their classmates, their team mates, and for themselves. And they listen when they are told things. We instil these values in the players every week when we do life skills both on

and off the eld.” To b e a p a r t o f t h e programme, the youngsters also have to maintain a good academic record, and homework in the speciallyinstalled containers at Swaneville will take precedence over soccer practice if necessary. “Our Academy is very different from other academies in Gauteng. Our emphasis on life skills, values, and academic success is not common, and is very appreciated by the parents of our players, as well as by the players who can see that they are being equipped to make better choices throughout their lives,” says Mokguo. Shanda Paine, Tsogo Sun's hands-on Group CSI Manager explains that the Tsogo Sun

Soccer Academy, now closing its sixth year, was established to provide disadvantaged youngsters with opportunities to become educated, capable and skilled adults through a holistic approach that incorporates lifeskills development within their sporting programmes. At the same time sporting talent and

tertiary education opportunities are identied and developed. “Soccer has proved to be an excellent catalyst for change in the lives of learners in disadvantaged communities. We have many success stories, but one that stands out for me was Goitseone Pitso, who started with the Academy in 2010. Last year he told us that he was sure that without the Academy he would have been in jail.” Pitso said that the soccer team took him off the streets and away from the criminal activities that some friends were involved in. “Here I learned selfdiscipline, to behave when I am around people, and how to show respect.” Tshepang Mothoagae, who joined the Academy in 2010 at age 12, says he too has learnt a lot more than soccer. “I learnt to respect my coaches, my team, and other players from other teams. They also taught us life skills and we learnt things like using electricity correctly, how to manage money, and how to be a better person. I want to say thank you to Tsogo Sun.”

SUCCESS IN LIFE The programme operates in 35 schools in Kagiso on the West Rand, working with 40 teachers and more than 1 000 learners, providing closing tournaments, interschool leagues that run weekly for six months, 'coaching the coaches' programmes, lifeskills, and a development academy for talented players. The most talented players of each age group are also provided with an opportunity to participate in a SAFAafliated league – the Soweto FA League – each year. This year the Academy added a school holiday programme to its activities, which ran in July and included various lifeskills workshops for 80 players between 13 and 19 years. Soccer practice was woven in between the sessions to keep them t and healthy. “Included were valuable skills such as a two-day certied rst aid training course for the older players, lessons on  n a n c i a l l i t e r a c y, a n informative workshop on substance abuse by Westview Clinic, as well as 'UShine' sessions that focused on empowerment and selfcondence for these young learners,” says Shane Collinson, Director of Operations and Complex General Manager at Silverstar Casino, which is responsible for the successful running of the Tsogo Sun Soccer Academy. But, adds Paine, this focus on skills to enable the players to be responsible members of

society has not detracted from their soccer prowess. Several of the youngsters have been scouted by clubs such as Kaizer Chiefs, Bidvest Wits, and Orlando Pirates – and are doing well. Adds Mokguo, “Most recently, one of our U19 players, L e t l o g o l o l o Letshuene, was spotted by Orlando Pirates when we were playing against them in a Soweto Football League match. We beat them 3-1 and Letlogololo scored two of the goals. We are proud of him and wish him well.”

After the closing tournament, Tsogo Sun Soccer Academy takes the U20 team away in recognition of their hard work, their achievements, and as a farewell gesture. This year the team will be visiting Durban where they will participate in a Metro tournament as well as having many exciting new experiences such as staying in a hotel, seeing the sea, and much more. “Our soccer programme is touching lives in a sustainable way, but what has contributed to its success are our partnerships with the schools, the SA Football Association, and the communities. The Academy has grown steadily over the years and we're proud of what so many of our young soccer players are achieving in life through it,” says Paine.

TIVEKA GAME FARM, A JEWEL IN THE BUSH

If there's one thing that's accurate about crticism levelled against Limpopo is its people's tendecy to undermine the province's natural heritage. Take the location of Tiveka Game Farm for example. The lodge is accessible from one of the busiest routes in the province, the R101, in the stretch between Mokopane and Polokwane. That easy part done, one is welcomed into one of "secret" natural habitats once one goes through the entrance gates of the lodge. Tiveka is located at the

foothills of the Swartberg mountains, in the Eerstgoud valley. The setting is serene and quiet, ironically not far from the busy R101 and only 30km south of the bustling city of Polokwane. The Limpopo Swartberg are not as high as their namesake in the southern Cape. The lowlying mountains add a massive allure to natural surrounding that one's hope is raised that mountains can be conquered, just by gazing at them! Visitors have the opportunity of coming closer to the mountains via the bush drive which will take you accross

the valley. Experienced tour guides have all the answers about the local environment, including animals and plants, and stories from many years ago!

Other facilities at Tiveka Game Farm include a conference centre and a wedding venue. Guests can choose to be accommodated in well furnished chalets, rondavels with two three-quarter beds or large executive rondavels with queen or king size bed. Ti v e k a i s e n d o r s e d b y Limpopo Tourism and Parks and widely recommended by various industry organisation i n c l u d i n g T E P [ To u r i s m Enterprise Partnership]. Authentic African meals at Tiveka are memorable, and will remind of this little heaven in the mountains for many years to come. Drive in for a sleepover, a weekend getaway or a longer holiday, the experince will be unforgettable.

BAFANA BAFANA GETS A HUGE WELCOME IN COSTA RICA BAFANA Bafana landed in the Costa Rican capital of San Jose at around 10am today after a marathon journey across the expansive South and Central American continents that took the team more than 28 hours to traverse. The team left OR Tambo Airport on Monday morning but despite looking a bit weary, the team which was met at San Jose International Airport by Costa Rican FA ofcials and a heavy local media contingent looked in high spirits and ready for the challenges. Bafana play Costa Rica on Friday, October 9 at 4am at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica, before heading to nearby Honduras where they take on their counterparts on Tuesday, October 13. That match starts at midnight South African time and will be beamed on SABC as is with the Friday game against Costa Rica. Both coach Shakes Mashaba and goalkeeper Itumeleng

Khune who elded questions from the media concurred that despite the punishing travelling schedule, they were ready to square up against one of the fastest rising teams in the world. “We are excited to be here and have heard that Costa Rica have named their most possible powerful squad but I am glad because my boys always relishes playing against the world's giants. “I have brought a very exciting group of players who are eager to leave a lasting impression on this continent and come Thursday, fans should be in for a real treat,” said Mashaba whose squad was met by South Africa's most overseas players who ew straight to San Jose, among them FC Twente, Kamohelo Mokotjo. The team will be bolstered by the Orlando Pirates trio of Thabo Matlaba, Mpho Makola and Thamsanqa Gabuza who will join the rest of the squad on Thursday but will most likely miss the Costa Rican

game. “Everyone is excited to be here and matches against countries like Costa Rica are what bring the best in most professional players. I saw them play Brazil last month and the truth is they are a formidable side that will test our mental strength,” said goalkeeper Khune.

Khune said they followed closely top players like goalkeeper Keylor Navas of RealMadrid and captain, Bryan Ruiz. Striker Tokelo Rantie has withdrawn from the team after suffering a recurring thigh injury which has sidelined him from Bournemouth squad in the past few days.

HABANA SPEARHEADS BOK VICTORY SURGE BRYAN Habana equalled the legendary Jonah Lomu's record for the number of tries scored across World Cups when he crossed for a hat-trick that helped the Springboks ease to a onesided 64-0 win over the USA at Olympic Park in London on Wednesday evening. The wing, playing on the right this time to accommodate Lwazi Mvovo on the left, scored all three of his tries after halftime as the Boks took control following a sluggish opening 40 minutes that would not have sent any shivers of apprehension down the spines of future opponents. However, by scoring 10 tries to nil en route to the rst whitewash in this edition of the Rugby World Cup, the Boks were able to pick up the bonus-point win that made sure of their top place nish in Pool B. By hitting the half century mark, they might also argue that they have built up some much needed collective and individual condence before the start of the playoff phase. They did put it together impressively after the break. But their second-half dominance should have been anticipated because of the rst phase and physical ascendancy they enjoyed in the opening 40 minutes. The recent defeat to Japan

should not change the fact that no Springbok team should ever consider a loss to the USA as a possibility. The reality was that they had their rst choice team on the eld but for a long time they played like a midweek combination. They led 14-0 at halftime after an opening 40 minutes where they showed plenty of evidence of the physicality and sheer physical strength that got them past Samoa and Scotland in the past two weeks. Yet those who had read the comments of former All Black World Cup-winning coach Graham Henry would have been nodding their heads in agreement as time and again the Boks built up what should have been try scoring opportunities but they were thrown away by poor passing and a general lack of cohesion. Henry said that the Boks have shown little other than brawn at this World Cup, and he reckons they may be in trouble when they come up against top teams who can match their physicality and prevent them from getting both the set phase dominance and the ascendancy in the collisions that the Boks have enjoyed over the past fortnight. They did go about trying to rectify that in the second half, with some good little

switches and interplays contributing to the landslide after halftime. Damian de Allende was a deserved man of the match. That though should not obscure the improvement that will be needed now that the sudden death phase has arrived. SHODDY HANDLING But that is hardly an excuse, and the Boks would have been excused their rst-half mistakes were they elding a midweek team. Fortunately though for the Boks, and this was the one big positive to emerge from the game, they did not experience any injuries to key players – though Meyer's heart might have been in his mouth when Schalk Burger went down after trying to grab a misdirected long range pass from the back of a lineout. Much of the rst-half play was error-ridden and static, and the Boks will do well to remember that and work on it when they start preparing for the quarternal, which is likely to be against Wales. The Boks' rst-half tries came courtesy of a De Allende break in the eighth minute and then a penalty try awarded after the Americans infringed for the umpteenth time as their scrum was being destroyed near the line.

T h e y h a d o t h e r opportunities but wasted them through a combination of shoddy handling and bad decision making. They began to nd their range in the second half, and this is maybe where elding the rst string side in this match was helpful to Meyer, but the quality of the passing in the rst half was woeful. I f t h e B o k s f e l t uncomfortable with their 14point lead at halftime they quickly dispelled any thought that USA may push them when skipper Du Preez executed a perfect kick from the base of a loose scrum soon after halftime that Habana ran onto on the bounce to stretch the lead to 21 with Handre Pollard's conversion. Four minutes later a sustained build-up saw Bismarck du Plessis over in the left corner for the bonus point try, after which came the rst of two driving maul tries dotted down by Francois Louw. Habana scythed through the middle for his second try and went over in the right corner for his record equalling third. The Boks are hitting the quarternal round with a lot more momentum than they had after their loss to Japan in Brighton just two and a half weeks ago.www.supersport.com
