LAGH DA SAOSEO TURQUOISE-BLUE MOUNTAIN IDYLL IN VAL DI CAMPO The Grisons is a region of lakes. They are everywhere – some hidden in the midst of thick forests, and some shaping the breathtaking alpine landscape. One of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the country is located not far from Pontresina, in the Val di Campo: Lagh da Saoseo. Swiss Pine The typical tree of the Upper Engadine

The spotted nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes) lives in symbiosis with the Swiss pine. This passerine bird feeds on the seeds of the tree, which it picks from the pine cones with its pointed beak. In the autumn, the spotted nutcracker hides thousands of seeds as winter stock. It finds about 80 percent of these hidden seeds, and the remaining stock sprouts new Swiss pines. It remains a mystery how the spotted nutcracker manages to find the seeds it hid in the autumn in the snow-covered winter landscape.

ARE HANDING OVER THE RESPONSIBILITY AND WILL HAVE MORE TIME FOR YOURSELF IN THE FUTURE. WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY LOOKING FORWARD TO? Time flies, and you have to anticipate and plan when it comes to training young people. At the reception desk, we are required to deal with many different tasks every day. The plan is for us to share the workload between several staff members. This enables each one to develop their strengths efficiently, without being thrown in at the deep end from one day to the next – which of course is not necessarily wrong either. Since I have three small grandchildren, I may spend my time with them more often, and in summer, as often as possible, enjoy our Maiensäss in the Puschlav with my husband (whom I generally see less than the guests, depending on the season). Who knows, maybe I'll write a book when I retire – and care, regardless of who they are and where they come from.

AT THE RECEPTION, YOU ARE THE CONTACT PERSON FOR ALL OF THE GUESTS’ WISHES AND CONCERNS. ARE THERE ANY SITUATIONS THAT YOU REMEMBER IN PARTICULAR?

IN THIS PROFESSION, PROBABLY NO ONE DAY IS LIKE ANOTHER. AFTER SO MANY YEARS, YOU MUST HAVE SEEN AND EXPERIENCED EVERYTHING THERE IS TO SEE AND EXPERIENCE. HOW OFTEN DOES YOUR JOB PROVE THIS CONVICTION WRONG? Oh, yes, you might think you have

CULTURE TOUR

Culture tips with culinary highlights in the Engadine The Engadine and its side valleys are a paradise for culture and art enthusiasts. Furthermore, a whole host of culinary delights are ready to be discovered. We have put together six exciting cultural tours in the immediate vicinity, where culture and cuisine are easily combined. Have fun on your journey of discovery!

MUZEUM SUSCH MECCA FOR ART AFICIONADOS

Giovanni Giacometti, Ciäsa Granda

EXCURSION TO VAL BREGAGLIA GIACOMETTI, SUGAR-BAKERS, AND A TOUCH OF ITALY

The southernmost valley of the Grisons is known for its picturesque villages, rugged mountain landscape, and culture. The world-famous artist Alberto Giacometti and his family hailed from Val Bregaglia, and Stampa was the centre for her work. There are numerous works by this family of artists on display at the Ciäsa Granda Museum, Centro Giacometti, and Atelier Giacometti. The Palazzo Castelmur is also well worth a visit; it is home to an exhibition about Grisons confectioners as well as the historical archive of Val Bregaglia.

Even architecturally, the Muzeum is a work of art. Located on the site of a medieval monastery, the museum consists of the former rectory, the reception and farm buildings, as well as some new additions. Founded by the Polish entrepreneur and visionary art collector Grażyna Kulczyk, Muzeum Susch shows contemporary art and causes a sensation worldwide on a regular basis. Zuoz represents past, present, and future at the same time. Here, you will find an intact, authentic townscape with its stately homes, as well as exciting contemporary art, and the youth of the world who attend the Lyceum Alpinum. The Tschudi Gallery in Chesa Madalena exhibits works of contemporary art and represents internationally renowned artists. S-chanf also has an intact, historic village centre, which exudes the spirit of a culture that still fully reflects its Romanesque roots. CULINARY DESTINATION PONTRESINA With its 77 restaurants and inns, Pontresina’s reputation as a culinary destination is more than justified. Broken down to around 2,000 inhabitants, we have one culinary establishment per 25 inhabitants! The spectrum ranges from the art nouveau hall to the rustic fondue bar, from the Swiss pine room to the Alpine hut, and from the pizzeria to the grill restaurant.
