HYGGE AT HOTEL WALTHER

Nordic Cosiness in the Engadin

“Hygge” is a Danish term that describes a feeling of cocooning, cosiness and well-being in a warm, homely atmosphere. The Scandinavians view hygge as anything that fosters feelings of happiness – be it comfortable clothing, candlelight, tea, or soul food. This trend has also spread outside the Nordic countries in recent years. Especially in the Engadin, where the winters are long and cold, “hygge” has become a new way of life. It helps us get through the dark season healthy and happy and teaches us to find peace and enjoyment within our hectic daily lives.

6 HOTEL WALTHER HYGGE-TIPS FOR A RELAXED ENGADIN WINTER’S DAY 1. RELAXATION IN THE SAUNA Treat yourself to a relaxing day. Pamper yourself in the Alps at the “Aqua Viva”. Swim, relax in the whirlpool, and enjoy the sauna or a massage – here, you can recharge your batteries and warm up. The Finnish sauna offers a relaxing balance for body and mind, strengthening the immune system and circulation and pampering the skin.

2. CANDLE MAGIC During the Christmas season, Hotel Walther is transformed into a true hygge paradise. A huge Christmas tree and hundreds of tea lights create a warm and festive atmosphere throughout the hotel that guests are able to enjoy right through the winter season. The magnificent Christmas tree – almost five metres high – is decorated with an impressive 280 Christmas ornaments.

INTRODUCING CHRISTOPHER WEISS

“What is so special about the work at Hotel Walther?” we ask. “First of all, the collaboration with their architect, Konrad Maier. He is always fully involved! The projects are always very exciting, but the process is straightforward. Nothing is ever bog-standard; you have to prepare and put in the effort.”

A VISIT TO THE STUDIO OF OUR ARTISAN METALSMITH “Arts and crafts have always been my thing,” says Pontresina native Christopher Weiss. Since taking over the workshop in 2020, he has been designing artistic metal works for the Hotel Walther.
