For the most part, shops in St.Moritz are open from 9 am to 12.30 pm, and from 2 pm to 6.30 or 7 pm. On Saturday, most of the shops already close their doors at 5 pm. Mountain Mood

Das trockene, prickelnde Champagnerklima des Engadins ist legendär und die berühmte St.Moritzer Sonne scheint durchschnittlich an 322 Tagen im Jahr. Ideale Voraussetzungen, um die 350 Pisten- und 180 Loipen-Kilometer, die 9 Skigebiete und 88 Abfahrten der Destination Engadin St.Moritz auszukundschaften – mit einem oder zwei Brettern unter den Füssen. Corviglia Sport runs its own ski rental and workshop under the label «SNOWELL» in a convenient location on the way to the Corviglia funicular railway station. It is an official Völkl testing center, yet a variety of brands of carving skis and snowboards can be rented here. The professional workshop does waxing, tuning, and quick repairs to any surface damages.

Die Dichte an Gault-Millau-Punkten in St.Moritz und im Engadin bedeutet buchstäblich «Haute Cuisine» auf dem Dach der Welt, liegen doch mehrere der Engadiner Spitzen-Restaurants höher als 1’800 m ü. M. Dabei wechselt die Szenerie wie die vielseitigen Spezialitäten. Hier dürfen Sie in historischen Sälen, modernen Lounges, gemütlichen Arvenstuben oder im Gipfelrestaurant schlemmen und geniessen. Auf der Karte stehen Gourmet-Küche, vorzügliche Spezialitäten aus dem nahen Italien, regionale Highlights wie die Capuns und Schweizer Evergreens wie Fondue und Raclette. The GaultMillau «Travel Guide for Gourmets» shows that guests in the Engadine eat well, and not only during the St.Moritz Gourmet Festival. The density of GaultMillau points in St.Moritz and the Engadine literally means «Haute Cuisine» here on top of the world; many of the Engadine’s best restaurants are in fact located at over 1,800 meters above sea level. The scenery is as varied as the specialties: here you can dine in historic halls, modern lounges, cozy pine-panelled rooms or mountain-peak restaurants.

The Restaurant Tschinè enjoyed great popularity in its very first season thanks to the culinary surprises presented by Alexander Kroll and his team: newly interpreted Swiss cuisine with a strong Asian influence. Perfect service and décor defined by the characteristic shapes, colors and furniture of Ascona interior designer Carlo Rampazzi create an elegant, relaxed atmosphere.

Grand Hotel Kronenhof The Grand Hotel Kronenhof is the Engadine’s oldest 5-star hotel and one of the most architecturally and historically notable hotels in the Alps, a jewel of its kind. After a clever investment of fifty million in an exclusive spa, modern suites and a new kitchen, it has been honored «GaultMillau Hotel of the Year». Kitchen chef Bernd Schützelhofer spoils his guests with 16 points, the 2,000 m 2 Kronenhof Spa brings freshness and nature inside, and the young directors have been designated «Hoteliers of the Year».

This charming restaurant in the Suvretta region is both a ski hut and an insider’s tip for gourmets. Hearty food - such as veal sausages, an air-dried beef platter (Bündnerteller) and poached fillet of beef (Tafelspitz) - is served at lunchtime, garnished with a generous helping of sun on the terrace. In the evenings, Robert Jagisch presents his creative cuisine with a pinch of tradition. Eigentlich ein Kunstwerk, lädt die sinnliche Rote Bar mit der angegliederten Lounge rund um die Uhr zum Verweilen. Today only a few people are aware of the true beginnings of St.Moritz as a destination. Its healing springs were what drew visitors to St.Moritz as early as 3,500 years ago. Kapelle San Bastiaun, Zuoz

Diese romanische Kapelle wurde Mitte des 13. Jh. erbaut. Der postromanische Bau besteht aus einem quadratischen Schiff und einem eingezogenen Chor mit alten Fresken von überdurchschnittlicher Qualität. Kirche San Gian, Celerina

Die Kirche San Gian mit ihren zwei ungleichen Türmen ist auf dem Hügel in der Ebene zwischen Celerina, Samedan und Punt Muragl zum Wahrzeichen der Region geworden. Die heutige Anlage steht auf den ältesten Mauern der Vorgängerkirche aus dem 11. Jahrhundert. Kloster St.Johann in Müstair

Über 1’200 Jahre reicht die Geschichte des Klosters St.Johann in Müstair zurück. Es ist auch heute noch von Benediktinerinnen bewohnt. 1983 wurde das Kloster St.Johann UNESCO-Weltkulturgut. Es ist der bedeutendste Kirchenbau aus der Zeit vor der Jahrtausendwende in der Schweiz. The history of the St.Johann Convent in Müstair is over 1,200 years old, and Benedictine nuns still live there today. In 1983 the St.Johann convent was declared a UNESCO cultural heritage site. It is Switzerland’s most important church building from the first millennium.

Schiefer Turm, St.Moritz-Dorf

Der Glockenturm (Höhe 33 m, Neigung 5.5 Grad) der ersten St.Moritzer Pfarrkirche St.Mauritius wurde erstmals 1139 erwähnt. Wegen Hangrutschgefahr mussten 1839 das Schiff und 1856 der Chor abgebrochen werden. Der Turm geriet bereits vor 1800 aus dem Lot und wurde 1928 gesichert. The earliest mention of the bell tower (height 33m, angle 5.5 degrees), the first St.Mauritius church in St.Moritz, dates from 1139. In 1839 first the nave and in 1856 the choir had to be demolished because of landslide danger. The tower had begun to lean before 1800 and was stabilized in 1928. ➤

Gefängnisturm, im Oberdorf. Ursprünglich Wohnturm, wohl im 12. Jh. von den Herren von Samedan erbaut. Prison tower located in the upper part of the village. Originally a living tower, probably built in the 12th century by the leading family of Samedan. ➤

Turm Belvedere, Maloja

1882 als Residenz des Grafen de Renesse begonnen, aber nie vollendet, beherrscht der Turm wie eine mittelalterliche Burg die Silhouette des Passes.

Friedrich Nietzsche, Hermann Hesse, Thomas Mann, Rainer Maria Rilke, Ferdinand Hodler, Richard Wagner, Giovanni Segantini. Was sich wie ein Who is who von bedeutenden Schriftstellern, Philosophen und Künstlern vergangener Zeiten anhört, ist auch die Namensliste von Reisenden, die das Engadin lieben gelernt haben. Allesamt haben sie hier Erholung und Heilung, Zerstreuung, künstlerische Impulse, sportliche und alpine Herausforderungen gesucht und gefunden.

Das Engadin ist heute das kulturelle Epizentrum Graubündens. Dank der romanischen Sprache, der Nähe Italiens und der mehrheitlich deutschsprachigen Ortsbevölkerung stossen hier drei Kulturbereiche zusammen. Kleine aber feine Galerien und Museen zeigen ausgewählte Kunststücke aus dem In- und Ausland. Galerie Peter Vann

Peter Vanns neue Leidenschaft gilt der Bergfotografie. Dabei versucht er eine unverkennbare Handschrift zu entwickeln. Dass dies dem renommierten Fotografen gelingt, zeigt sich im neuen Kalender «Peak Emotion: Piz Palü – Morteratsch» und in den entsprechenden grossformatigen Artprints. Die aktuellen Werke sind in der eigenen Galerie in S-chanf wie auch im Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains zu sehen, dessen Galerie neu unter der Leitung von Peter Vann und seiner Frau steht.

Ergänzend und für das Tal bereichernd werden auch diesen Winter zwei faszinierende internationale Künstler präsentiert. Didier Hagège überlagert bemalte Leinwand und Plexiglas und schafft so poetische, fast zerbrechliche Bilder abseits modischer Effekthascherei. Der belgische Künstler Manuel Geerinck setzt gemalte Motive in Schwingung, um sie so zu fotografieren. Die tanzenden Teile werden zu bildlichen Fetischen, die den Betrachter mit ihren leuchtenden Farben in den Bann ziehen.

Peter Vann’s new passion is mountain photography, in which he is striving to develop an unmistakeable personal signature. The renowned photographer’s new calendar «Peak Emotion: Piz Palü – Morteratsch» and large-format art prints show that he is succeeding. His current work can be viewed in his own gallery in S-chanf and in the Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains, whose gallery is now managed by Peter Vann and his wife. Enriching the cultural scene in the valley and complementing Peter Vann’s work, two fascinating international artists will be presented this winter. Didier Hagège layers painted canvas and Plexiglas to create poetic, almost fragile pictures far from a faddish gimmick. Belgian artist Manuel Geerinck swings painted motifs and photographs them; the dancing pieces become visual fetishes that fascinate with their bright colors.

Zuffellato

Organische Elemente wie Schwemmholz, Schädel, Federn oder Rosshaar, aber auch rohes Metall und scheinbar sinnlose Fundgegenstände sind die Werkstoffe von Marco Zuffellato. Der Künstler aus dem Fex zaubert daraus mit intuitiver Schöpfungskraft Skulpturen und Objekte von archaischer Schönheit. Gestalten zwischen Licht und Schatten, Leben und Tod. Seine Werke versprühen eine ganz eigene Ästhetik und entwickeln dabei beinahe mystische Energie – ähnlich den Kultobjekten primitiver Stämme. Von dort bezieht Marco Zuffellato auch einen guten Teil seiner Inspiration. Die neuen Werke können in der Galerie im Fex nach Voranmeldung besichtigt werden. Sie symbolisieren alpine Sagengestalten, Berggeister und Fabelwesen. Bizarre Totems von urtümlicher Kraft und Ausstrahlung, die stark von der einzigartigen Berglandschaft des Engadins beeinflusst sind.

Marco Zuffellato’s basic materials are organic elements such as driftwood, skulls, feathers and horsehair as well as crude metal and seemingly useless finds. With intuitive creative power, the Fex valley artist creates sculptures and objects of archaic beauty - forms between light and shadow, life and death. His work radiates a unique aesthetic quality and in doing so gains an almost mystic energy – similar to the cult objects of primitive tribes, where Marco Zuffellato himself finds a large part of his inspiration.

His latest work can be viewed at his gallery in the Fex valley by prior appointment. They symbolize mythical alpine figures: mountain spirits and fabulous beings - bizarre and charismatic totems of primitive power strongly influenced by the Engadine’s distinctive mountain landscape.

Galerie Bauer Die Galerie Bauer ist eine der jüngsten Galerien des Engadins. 2007 eröffnet, setzt sie Schwerpunkte in einheimische und internationale zeitgenössische Kunst. Die beiden Galeristen Fenno Bauer und Cornelia Bergmann-Fluhrer organisieren fünf bis sechs Wechsel-Ausstellungen pro Jahr. Und die lassen sich sehen: Kunst von Gerd Menia, Joanna Archetti aus Zürich, Tanja Kumpermond, Andrea Barbiorili, Nicholas Ferguson, Monica Giarratana wird hier zu sehen sein. In Zukunft sind Ausstellungen mit Werken von Michel Sima oder dem in der Schweiz lebenden Dimitri Horta geplant. Neben den Wechsel-Ausstellungen zeigt die Galerie Bauer eine permanente Sammlung von Druckgrafiken von Sam Francis, Johannes Itten, Samuel Buri und weiteren Künstlern.

Damit stellt die Galerie noch relativ unbekannten aber sehr vielversprechenden Künstlern eine Plattform zur Verfügung. Ein positiver Nebeneffekt: Hier lässt sich Kunst erwerben, die hochklassig und dennoch bezahlbar ist.

An ausgehfreudigem Publikum hat es St.Moritz noch nie gefehlt. Mit gutem Grund: Bekannte Bar-Klassiker, neue Lounge Bars und Clubs mit internationaler Ausstrahlung machen Hochsaison-Nächte im Engadin taghell. Und das Schönste ist: Um einen abwechslungsreichen Abend mit munterem ClubHopping zu verbringen, muss man sich nicht die Füsse wundlaufen: Zahlreiche In-Places im Dorfkern von St.Moritz sind in «walking distance».

Und übrigens: In den Ferienorten rund um St.Moritz geht man beim Eindunkeln auch noch nicht zu Bett. Das wäre auch jammerschade, denn rund ein Dutzend Ausgeh-Perlen dürfen Sie nicht verpassen.

Every night people are out on the town in St.Moritz; well-known classic bars, new lounges, and cosmopolitan clubs with an international flair light up the nights during the high season in the Engadine. The best part: it’s not far between locales, so an evening of club-hopping is easy on the feet – most of the in places in the center of St.Moritz are within short walking distance.

By the way, in the villages around St.Moritz, bedtime isn’t at dusk either – and a very good thing it is, because there are about a dozen after-dark destinations that are not to be missed.

The Schweizerhof’s nightlife mile is legendary, and it starts with the nonchalantly entertaining Piano Bar – one of St.Moritz’s oldest and most atmospheric locales. This is where, at small tables or the bar, long, sensuous evenings and short, fast nights begin. A live pianist, the champagne mood, and delicious cocktails create a bubbly atmosphere.

Ein Klassiker in der St.Moritzer Ausgeh-Szene ist das Stübli. Dieses Pub – wie ihn nur das Engadin hervorbringen kann – unterhält sein bunt gemischtes Publikum mit Live-Gitarrist und den ersten zwei bis drei gemütlichen Bieren des Abends. In der Tat beginnt in St.Moritz fast jeder Ausgang hier.

The Muli Bar is new, having been completely remodelled after three months of planning and construction. Now it’s trendy and cool, offering atmospheric dance music and an ambience to chill in – with cool drinks.

The Stübli is a classic on the St.Moritz nightlife scene. This bar – of a genre unique to the Engadine – entertains its colorful mix of guests with a live guitarist and the first two or three relaxed beers of the evening. It’s a fact that almost every night out in St.Moritz starts here.

King’s Club

Im legendären King’s Club lassen Stars und Sternchen, Promis und solche, die es gerne wären, die Nacht zum Tag werden. Hier ist alles möglich. Nirgends wird so ausgelassen gefeiert, und nirgends ist das Publikum so durchmischt.

Aufgelegt wird querbeet durch die Musikstile. Hauptsache es gefällt. Es geht sowieso mehr um das Sehen und Gesehen werden, den Smalltalk und später das Trinken. Polizeistunde ist ein Fremdwort, weshalb es zu später Stunde alle Unverbesserlichen ins King’s zieht ... sofern ihnen denn noch Einlass gewährt wird. Anyway, wer den Hype des King’s Clubs nicht miterlebt hat, weiss nichts vom St.Moritz Nightlife.

The legendary King’s Club is the stage for stars and starlets to gather and bask in their own glow (with the inevitable beam chasers getting in on the glory). This is where everyone goes and anything can happen. The music is as diverse as the habitué, its sole purpose being to please. It’s all about seeing and being seen, small talk, and, as the night goes on, drinking. King’s Club knows no curfew, so when all the other lights have gone out, it is the destination of the incorrigible – if they can get in. You haven’t experienced St.Moritz nightlife until you’ve experienced the exhilarating hype of the King’s Club.
