SPRING 2021 RECREATION PROGRAM GUIDE

Welcome to a new season of Squamish Recreation Services programs for all ages and interests, no matter your skill level. We are continuing to operate to the best of our ability to keep our community safe and active, and we’ll adjust as we can with changes to public health orders. It’s important for all of us to continue to find safe ways to look after our own physical and mental well-being, so whether that is through Squamish Recreation Services programs, a walk outside with a friend or a virtual meet-up, please stay connected. To help accelerate a return to the activities we love, District of Squamish facilities will be used by Vancouver Coastal Health to support the phases of B.C.’s COVID-19 vaccination plan. I look forward to the day when we make a full return to our regular programming.

SQUAMISH ADULT SWIM CLUB

This program is all about efficient swimming, improving strokes to minimize injury and creating a fun, social and rewarding environment for adult fitness. We recommend participants be able to swim 2 lengths non-stop of either front crawl or breaststroke. Date/Time TBD

SWIM LESSONS WILL CONTINUE TO LOOK DIFFERENT...

In accordance to the Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor COVID guidelines, the following modifications have been made to ensure the safety of both instructor and child: • • • • •

All swim lessons will be taught with an instructor on deck. All preschool swim levels (Starfish/Duck, Splash’n Play and Sea Turtle/Sea Otter) as well as Swim Kids 1-4 will have mandatory parent/caregiver participation. The parent/caregiver is now accountable for ensuring the child is safe in the water, which reduces contact with the instructor. All preschool levels must be a one-to-one ratio of child-to-parent/caregiver in the water during the entire duration of the lesson. Swim Kids lessons 5-10 are conducted without a parent/caregiver and the instructor will teach on deck. This will ensure physical distancing for all swimmers and instructor. If you cannot remember the last level your child completed, please call Customer Service at 604.898.3604 and we will be happy to look that up for you.
