Saturday 25th August 2018//Butcher’s Arms Ground // Attendance: 164 Squires Gate travelled to Evo Stik side Droylsden looking to progress to the next round of the FA Cup for just the 5th time in 18 attempts. Manager Andy Clarkson chose his strongest side for the visit to Manchester with Matty Kay coming back in for Brett Dawson who dropped to the bench, Andrew Richards came in for Ben Teader in defence. Gate started the game not letting Droylsden have any time on the ball. The Blues pressed the higher league side from the start, particularly Gate strikers who didn’t give Droylsden a minute as they tried to play out from the back. It was the homeside though who opened the scoring. Winger Domaine Rouse getting in behind Gate’s backline to shoot low beating Ben Fletcher. Gate’s first shot of the game came from Joe Booth after 11 minutes but it was easily gathered by the home keeper. Gate equalised soon after through Gary Pett. He fired a superb freekick past the keeper and into the top corner beating the keeper. It didn’t take long for the home side to regain the league, in fact just one minute later. Liam Caddick was unmarked at the far post to give Droylsden the lead for the second time in the game. Gate had the chance to equalise through Ryan Riley after 24 minutes but his shot was tame after Pett had stretched to keep the ball in. Gate then had to be alert minutes after at the other end of the pitch when Andrew Richards came to the rescue clearing the ball off the line. Gate's persistence paid off after 30 minutes when Ric Seear equalised with his first of the game. He rose highest to head home strike partner Gary Pett's cross to the front post to out Gate level. Droylsden retook the lead on the stroke of half time. Gate's defence switching off allowed first half

sub Callum Bagshaw in one on one with Ben Fletcher to score.

Half time: Droylsden 3-2 Squires Gate Ben Fletcher had to be alert for Gate as the second half got underway. He made a point blank save to deny Sefton Gonzales for a corner, which Gate cleared. Gate had to good chances early into the second half as first Joe Booth fired wide then Adam Sumner sent a freekick over the bar. The homeside extended their lead soon after Gate's chances. Sefton Gonzales heading past Ben Fletcher from Dom Kerrigan's inch perfect cross. Ryan Riley created a great chance for himself to pull a goal back for Gate when he cut inside his man, curling shot was just wide of the post though. Sub Ryan Charnley mad an instant impact when he joined the game, grabbing a goal back for Gate. Gary Pett challenged the keeper who dropped the ball falling to Charnley who calmly slotted the ball into the empty net. Ben Fletcher had to be alert with 12 minutes left to deny Droylsden with two quality saves. That spurred Gate on to find an equaliser. That goal came in the 82nd minute through Ric Seear with his second of the game. He was in the right place to head in Andrew Richards cross. The goal will see the two sides meet again on Tuesday 4th September at The Brian Addison Stadium

Monday 26th August 2018//The Brian Addison Stadium // Attendance:80 Squires Gate picked up another three points in a hard fought contest on Monday afternoon. Gate came into the game missing key striker Gary Pett who picked up an injury at Droylsden in the FA Cup on Saturday, defender Dave Rossall was then ruled out during the warm up when he picked up a knock. Gate looked to threaten early on against Padiham but the referee had his whistle to his mouth after just four minutes when two Gate players were offside when a corner was sent back into the box. The homeside's day was made worse after just 7 minutes when captain Joe Booth's day was over. He took a nasty looking knock and had to hobble off to be replaced by Jordan Salthouse. Gate were unlucky not to score a minute before taking the lead. Brett Dawson found Ric Seear in the box but the striker’s header was blocked. From the follow up corner, Gate opened the scoring. A late call up to the starting line up, Ben Reader rose highest to head Adam Sumner’s corner past the keeper to give Gate the lead. Ric Seear had another good chance on the half hour mark when a long ball from Adam Sumner caught out the Padiham defence, but Seear’s chip over the keeper was saved by the big Padiham keeper.

Half time: Squires Gate 1-0 Padiham

It’s fair to say that Gate have had better starts to second halves of games. Manager Andy Clarkson saw experienced midfielder Matty Kay sent off 10 minutes into the second half for his second bookable offence, with plenty of encouragement from the visiting dugout. Down to ten men, Gate had to adjust and try and see out the game with Padiham looking to find an equaliser. Ben Fletcher had to be alert on 66 minutes to deny Padiham. Down the other end of the pitch, Padiham’s keeper was en equally good form to deny Gate. He stayed big to deny first Brett dawson, then Ric Seear and then Jordan Salthouse.

Q&A WITH GARY PETT In a new Feature we interviewed Gate Player Gary Pett. This is Gal second season with the club after coming from Wren rovers last year, Gal was gate top scorer last year .We caught up with to discuss after his great first season and gate good season does he think him and team can improve on last year and challenge for title we also found out his best FA Cup moment and about football in gernal. Firstly who encourage you to start to playing? My dad. He was a keen footballer and loved a kick around in the garden.

After a great first year at Gate, and the new manager situation do you think you and The team can improve on last year finished and challenge for the title?

Are there any Ground that are you looking forward to playing this season? I think Northwich Victoria have started playing their games at Witton Albion so that should be a good set up.

Who was your football hero growing up? David Beckham

I think the team can improve from last year especially with the quality of some players who have come in and they will add a lot to the team. The tittle is a big challenge and I think realistically a top 4 or 5 finish would be a very successful season!

Who is the best joker in the dressing room?

What new player do you think will have a big impact for gate this season and will be hard to handle for teams (other then youself)?

Who is the best to get everybody ready and force on the game?

Joe booth and Matty Kay. Both have played at a very high standard and their quality will be hard for teams to handle.

With the FA Cup Replay on Tuesday, what the best moment you have watch or played in the FA Cup and do you feel Gate has what it take to get far in it this season? I think my free kick on Saturday was one of my best moments. If we get a result against Droylesden in the reply then I don’t see why we can’t get through another round or 2. What new teams that has came are you looking forward to facing? Silsden, first game of the season was a good game. They have a good set up there and at that time of the year the pitch was in good condition

There are a few lads. Fletch thinks he’s one of them but he’s really not!

Who has the worst taste in music? Stinger!! Shocking taste.

I think the gaffer and assistant play a big part in this. After them most of the lads are pumped up

Who is the worst trainer? Either me or Adam Sumner! Both always on the physio bench!

What is the last thing you do the prepare yourself before you walk out on to the pitch to help you get ready for the game? Splash cold water on my face to help switch on straight away.

AWAY DUGOUT

Paul Bowyer & Wayne Goodison This like most teams in the league now Northwich has a joint manager, this is they second season at the club and after last year good run in the FA Vase and this year they be hopefully to same. They come into todays without a win this season but the wont be bothered as they have the team to improve on after this rough start.

The club was established on 15 November 2012 at a meeting at Lostock Social Club in Lostock Gralam, near Northwich, when Northwich Victoria Supporters' Trust members were given the opportunity to decide on creating a new football club. The vote ended with a 141–4 vote in favour of a new club. It had emerged on the day of the vote that the owner of Northwich Victoria had been declared bankrupt (later annulled) and therefore failed the FA Fit and Proper Persons test. On 29 November 2012 fans attended an open meeting in Northwich, where they chose the name 1874 Northwich for the club. In order to avoid legal issues over the new club's name, none of the proposed options included the words Vics or Victoria. The date 1874 was chosen because it was the year in which the original Northwich Victoria was founded, or at least, when they played their first formal match. Alongside the naming of the club, fans were also given the chance to vote on a motto; the Cheshire Regiment motto 'Ever Glorious' was chosen due to their links with the Drill Field and the town of Northwich. One of the other options included the Latin translation, 'Semper Gloriosa'. On 3 January 2013 it was confirmed that the club had been officially registered with the Cheshire County Football Association and had applied to join the North West Counties League in time for the 2013–14 season, and were accepted into Division One of the league on 23 May. On 25 April 2013 it was announced that former Winsford United and Ashton Athletic boss Ian Street would be the club's first manager. On 28 April 2013 Lee Duckworth was named as his assistant. The club played their first match on 10 July 2013 against local team Lostock Gralam, winning 3–1.Their first honours came three days later in the Supporters Direct Shield, when they defeated AFC Rushden & Diamonds 3–0 in Widnes at the Halton Stadium.Their first league game was played on 3 August 2013 against Oldham Boro, where 490 fans attended the game which finished 1– 1.In their first season, the club finished third in Division One, initially missing out on promotion to the Premier Division on goal difference. However, following the resignation of Formby in May, Northwich were promoted in their place. In their second season, the club finished third in the Premier Division and entered the FA Cup for the first time. They finished fourth in the Premier Division in 2015–16, and also won the Mid-Cheshire Senior Cup, beating Witton Albion in the final. Ian Street resigned as firstteam manager on 12 March 2017, with assistant Paul Bowyer and first-team coach Wayne Goodison becoming caretaker joint managers before being appointed on a permanent basis. The club went on to win the Mid-Cheshire Senior Cup with a 1–0 win over Northwich Victoria in the final. In 2017–18 they reached the semi-finals of the FA Vase, losing 4–2 on aggregate to Thatcham Town.

.rawing 1-1 draw at home with Abbey Hey, 1874 Northwich came from behind to secure their first league point of the 2018/19 season.1874 dominated the game, with the visitors only enjoying rare moments of attacking play. Mark Jones and Kyle Riley were just off target with efforts in the opening ten minutes before Sam Freakes, playing against his previous club, fired in a free kick from 20 yards which Abbey goalkeeper Ross Heywood did well to tip over the bar.Against the run of play Abbey Hey took the lead in the 22nd minute. 1874 goalkeeper Matt Green pushed a long range Robert Swallow shot around the post for a corner. Stephen Solademi rose highest to meet the corner kick with a powerful header which was blocked on the goal line. Keiron Dale reacted quickest to force the ball into the net from close range. 1874 created several opportunities to equalise before the half time interval. Riley guided a header from a Lee Jackson inches past the post while a he also saw a defender block a shot on the goal line. Floating in a cross from the left wing Joe Woolley, playing his first league game since April 2017, found Matt Russell at the far post, Russell’s shot on the volley flew over the bar. Swallow opened the second half with a long range shot which Green turned away for a corner; the remainder of the game was almost one way traffic as 1874 launched wave after wave of attack. 1874 drew level in the 53rd minute when Scott McGowan sent Heywood the wrong way from the penalty spot after a Abbey Hey defender had been adjudged to have handled the ball on the goal line. Having initially rejected 1874’s appeals for a penalty, referee Daniel Bruce after consulting with his assistant pointed to the spot. A few minutes later 01 MATTHEW GREEN 01 ROSS HEYWOOD Callum Gardner shot wide before McGowan clipped 02 MATTHEW RUSSELL 02 KARIM IBRAHIM the outside of the post after being set up by Danny 03 LEE JACKSON 03 ADAM BARLOW Thomas, while after good play by Woolley, Jones had 04 JACK PRITCHARD 04 LOUIS EDWARDS a goal bound shot blocked. In the final ten minutes 05 DANIEL THOMAS 05 STEPHEN SOLADEMI Kazim Waite-Jackson had a shot blocked, Thomas 06 MARK JONES 06 THOMAS MURRAY headed just wide and Heywood saved well at point 07 CALLUM GARDNER 07 ROBERT SWALLOW blank range to deny Jake Parker. VIEW FROM AWAY END

ASHLEY DOBELL

This Week we interviewed Life long 1874 Northwich fan Ashley Dobell, we found out how long he has been in and around with Northwich. We also found out what his Expectations for the season and does he think they can improve on where they finished last season and about his time at Northwich in gernal. Firstly how long have you been at 1874 Northwich and what is your most favoite moment there?

After a great Run in FA Vase last year do you think you can do same this year and go one better?

Signed a letter to give supporters the chance to form their own club back in 2012 and then voted in favour of forming 1874 - so you could say from day 1!

Not likely! But hoping for a decent Vase run after a disappointing FA Cup exit.

What are your expectations for the season from what you have seen In your pre-season games and after first few game of the season? It hasn't really been settled with players missing preseason and some injuries but confident we will gather some better form.

Have you ever been to Gate before if so what was the score? Been here on all of our previous visits - won 3, lost 1!

Have you ever been to Wembley old or new if so what is your most memorable moments there and what is the best game you seen?

Do you think you can improve on your 7th place finished last season?

Visited both new and old - first time the favourite in the mid 90's to watch MUFC. I was gutted not to go there with 1874 last season.

Capable of doing so but this is a very competitive league this season

Who from gate do you think be a biggest threat for 1874 Northwich to handle?

After a rough start to the season do you think the team has what it takes to turn it around and finished top half of the table?

Hopefully they all have a bad day!

Absolutely - we've been unlucky with injuries. We will be better once we have a settled side.

Silsden - on a Saturday hopefully! Took me 3.5hrs to get there from Stoke last time in midweek.

What stadium are you looking forward to this season?

What team do you think will be a good challenge in the league this year?

Litherland REMYCA - only one yet to visit in our league.

City of Liverpool and Runcorn Town. Both have so many goalscorers in their sides.

Have you improve on squad from last season and who do you think will be a threat to teams? We have lost a couple of players who have moved on for various reasons. We have signed two players, one is Matt Beadle who has an excellent goal scoring record for us from his previous spell, and Callam Gardner who performed really well against us last season for our landlords Winsford United. We are missing some senior players in Sam Hind, Matt Woolley and probably Scott McGowan so it's up to our young players to grab the chance at the moment.

Which some new teams coming up from the First division what ground are looking forward to visit?

With linnets getting promoted finally last year which team do you think will be up there this season challenge for the title? I would love to say us but Bootle and Charnock Richard should challenge CoL and Runcorn Town.

Finally prediction for today's game? 2-1 to 1874

fter losing there unbeaten run at the hands of the champions Runcorn Linnets on Thursday, Manager Andy Clarkson was looking to get back to winning ways. Gate made just one change to the starting 11 with Finley Clarkson starting his first game in place of Max Rothwell who picked up a knee injury on Thursday. The visitors had an early shout for a penalty waved away after seven minutes when the ball struck Alex Colquhoun's chest, referee Craig Buxton, who was reffing his last game, waved away the protests.

Ben Fletcher had to be alert after after 9 minutes as he denied a snapshot from the visitors, the resulting corner was well defended by Gate and cleared. Gary Pett had two great chances in succession after 20 minutes but couldn't find the net on either occasion. First he bursts into the box but fired over the bar. Then a lovely ball over the top found his run, but he volleyed just wide.

1874 opened the scoring after 32 minutes through Sam Hind. The striker was allowed too much time in the box to turn and pick his spot to fire past Ben Fletcher. Gary Pett and Dean Ing linked up well after 38 minutes but the latter was denied by keeper Greg Hall. The corner was then headed towards goal by Pett but the keeper was there to collect. 1874 had another great chance to double their lead just before half time but missed a near open goal. Kyle Riley beat Andrew Richards before squaring to the back post to Sam Hind but he couldn't connect with the ball. Half time: Squires Gate 0-1 1874 Northwich Gate started well in the second half but it was 1874 who doubled their lead. After chances for Gary Pett and Ryan Riley it was the visitors who would finish their chances. Sam Hind rising highest to head in Ryan Jackson's cross past Ben Fletcher.Gate looked to reply minutes later again through Gary Pett. A lovely cross found his head but he couldn't direct the header the right side of goal Pett again went close after 73 minutes forcing a superb save from Greg Hall in goal. He slipped as he hit the shot towards goal but Hall denied him down low, Gate couldn't capitalise from the corner. Gate had several half chances but uncharacteristically just couldn't finish chances in front of goal. It was a different story though for the visitors who finished almost everything created on the afternoon. They scored a late third through sub Jake Parker who was unmarked at the back post to fire past Fletcher.

In a new feature we team up with the Non-league paper editor Matt Badcock who is going a little bit off a column each week to place into our programme so all you non-league fan can found out at happen all across the non-league pyramid A couple of weeks ago I saw a video that reminded me of why Non-League football increasingly appeals to so many people. The first half of the footage sees Liverpool’s squad, and manager Jurgen Klopp, boarding their team coach in 2017 doing their best to ignore supporters standing only yards away with their arms outstretched clutching replica shirts for the players to sign. Now, before this becomes an attack on Liverpool, it is worth nothing that this is largely the same squad and manager who travelled to relegated Chester in pre-season, and respected their opponents by fielding an XI in each in half that wouldn’t have looked out of place in a Premier League fixture. The match attracted a crowd of over 4000, securing vital funds for the National League side. Klopp has done the same in recent seasons with visits to Tranmere. The video also conveniently cuts short before Daniel Sturridge and James Milner stop for fans – most of the 1.1 million people who saw this video won’t have known these facts, although that is no excuse for the other Reds player and their manager. In the second half of the video, there is a striking contrast. At Preston station, on the way back from their opening day defeat at AFC Fylde, Bromley players secured the National League club a supporter for life. James, who looks no older than five or six, decked out in Bromley shirt, is stood on the pavement being introduced to every Ravens player with a handshake by captain Jack Holland as they step off the team coach. James’ face as each of his heroes greets him is a picture. The video lasts for just 28 seconds but that is all takes to create a lifelong memory. It was a timely reminder as the season started of the inclusivity of Non-League football – the reason myself and many others watch this level. It’s being able to chat to your team’s star striker before, and even during, the warm-up or afterwards in the club bar. It’s being able to ask the manager over a pint why the two wingers swap sides. It’s doing ‘your bit’ for your club to help the cogs turning. So well done to Bromley and Non-League for keeping things real. Football is just a game but let’s keep the experience fun, inclusive and enjoyable.

LAST TIME GATE WAS HERE HANLEY TOWN 4 GATE 0 he game was full of stops and starts all afternoon with several fouls and freekicks for either team. On 13 minutes Ben Fletcher set Gate on the counter after saving a soft shot, Tarren Moxon winning a corner. Then that corner was cleared by the homeside who launched their own attack, but just ran the ball out. The homeside would open the scoring after 16 minutes Neville Thompson allowed too much space inside the box to tap in after no closing down from Gate. As quick as the first goal went in, the second would follow. Dan Cope this time free in the box to slot past Ben Fletcher after the cross from the left wasn't closed down. Gaain from Gate's attack it would be the homeside who'd capitalise. Dawson's corner was caught by the keeper who sent a long ball and found Hanley's attack. Theo Stair on hand to fire past Fletcher to make it 3-0.Fletcher was then on hand to deny Hanley on 26 minutes with a quality reaction save, tipping the ball over the bar. The resulting corner was fired into the back post where the defender up from the back, headed across goal and out. The second half was a much better performance from Gate who looked to have woke up after a half time dressing down.Chances for Nick Greenall who's looping header didn't catch out the keeper and Paul Carroll's shot at the back post which went wide both better chances than any created in the first half Dean Ing, making his first start for the club, stung the keepers gloves on 60 minutes from outside the area as Gate got closer to making the break through. Manager Danny Penswick has the chance to grab himself a goal at the back post on 65 minutes, but his touch was soft from the freekick and easily gathered by the keeper. The homeside then went down the other end and went close again, Thompson looking to add a second fired narrowly wide. With the last kick off the game the homeside would undo all Gate's good second half work. A poor clearance falling to the Hanley right back who found the feet of Dan Cope, Cope with a sharp turn and shot to beat Fletcher.

AROUND THE LEAGUE Eleven of our clubs were in action in the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round, and five have booked their places in the next round, with another two facing replays. Two of our clubs progressed by knocking out Evo-Stik League opponents, and in the case of Irlam, they achieved their 2-1 win on the road at Prescot Cables thanks to two goals from Matty Boland. Ashton Athletic’s impressive recent record in cup competitions continued with a 2-1 win over Skelmersdale United at Brocstedes Park. The familiar name of Jason Carey had put Skem ahead, but in a dramatic finale, goals in the last eight minutes from Adam Howard and Christopher Bandell clinched victory for the Yellows. In the all-Premier Division clash at Victoria Park, Burscough followed up their midweek league win over Northwich Victoria with a 2-0 win in the FA Cup. Matthew Ward and Terry Cummings, who both scored in midweek, were the Linnets’ scorers. Two of our clubs progressed with wins at Northern Counties East League opponents, a 50th minute goal from Emini Adegbenro earning Congleton Town a 1-0 victory at Handsworth Parramore, and John Shaw, Ryan Cox and Shaun Weaver were on target for Runcorn Town in the 3-1 win at Penistone Church.wo more clubs live to fight another day, and Squires Gate were involved in a remarkable game in south Manchester, their game at Droylsden ending in a 4-4 draw. Ric Seear’s second goal of the game eight minutes from time earned a replay for Gate on Tuesday 4th September, and Gary Pett and Ryan Charnley were their other scorers(65) A Jack Hazelhurst equaliser 19 minutes from time ensured that City of Liverpool’s tie at home to Glossop North End ended 1-1, meaning the Purps will head to Surrey Street for a replay on Tuesday 28th August. For four clubs it was the end of the road, although in the case of Prestwich Heys, it was a day in which they enjoyed nationwide exposure with their 2-0 home defeat to Radcliffe being shown live on the BBC's digital platforms. Whitchurch Alport’s hopes of progress were ended by conceding a late goal at Walsall Wood to lose 2-1, Zack Dale’s goal for Barnoldswick Town was the only highlight in a 6-1 defeat at Whitley Bay, and AFC Darwen lost 4-1 at home to Trafford. There were four games in the Premier Division, and Charnock Richard were the highest scorers of the day with a fine 5-1 win at Hanley Town, Ashley Young scoring twice. Two goals from Lee Spires in the opening 21 minutes set Silsden on the way to a 4-2 home win over Winsford United, following n from their good midweek win at Padiham, who bounced back from that defeat to win 3-1 at 1874 Northwich, Liam O’Neill grabbing a double for the Storks. In the other game, West Didsbury & Chorlton shared a 2-2 draw with Bootle after Merizel Dos Santos and Saul Henderson had given West a twzgoal lead at half time, but Carl Peers and Johnny Foy rescued a point for the Bucks. In the First Division North, Carlisle City kept up their 100% start to the season, with a 1-0 home win over Chadderton, although it took until the 85th minute before Aaron Bradbury scored the decisive goal. Avro are tucked in behind in second place after a 6-0 win over Holker Old Boys, a score all the more remarkable given that the game was goalless until Joe Bevan opened the scoring in the 51st minute, before going on to complete a hat trick. Longridge Town moved into third place with a 4-2 win over Shelley at the MRG, Thomas Ince scoring twice for Town, and there was also a double for Ben Clarkson of Steeton, who moved into fourth place with a 5-3 win over Atherton LR. AFC Blackpool are fifth after a Ben Bradley equaliser ten minutes from time rescued a point from a 2-2 draw at home to Daisy Hill, and first half goals from Harry Avis and James McGrane earned a third straight win for AFC Liverpool, this time by 2-0 at Nelson. Ben Boyce scored twice in Bacup Borough’s 3-1 win over Garstang, Borough’s first league win of the season, and a 20th minute goal from Matthew Johnson sealed Ashton Town’s 1-0 win over Lower Breck. First Division South is still headed by New Mills after two late goals from Aaron Dwyer saw them to a 3-2 victory at Cheadle Heath Nomads to keep up their 100% start to the season, and Cheadle Town are a point behind after coming from behind to win 3-1 at Rylands. Jimmy Green’s early goal sealed Wythenshawe Amateurs’ 1-0 win over Sandbach United to keep them in third place, and St Martins are fourth after a 2-1 win at Abbey Hulton United, Karl Bailey and Brendon Price both scoring in the first half for Saints. Goals from Christy O`Brien and Rhys Jones earned Maine Road a welcome first win of the season, 2-1 at Wythenshawe Town, and there were also away wins for Stone Dominoes by 1-0 at Eccleshall, thanks to an 80th minute goal from Ryan Baxter, and an 89th minute winner from Damace Kiwawoa earned Vauxhall Motors all three points with a 2-1 win at Ellesmere Rangers. An Adam Rooney equaliser 10 minutes from time ensured Cammell Laird 1907 picked up a point from a 3-3 draw at Alsager Town and there were home wins for Stockport Town who beat FC Oswestry Town 3-0, and Stone Old Alleynians, who beat Barnton 1-0 with a Matt Thomas penalty.
