PENSWICK Today's game against AFC Liverpool is our first at home since Barlick earlier on this month, after 2 tough away games it's good be back at home. Looking at the form table this is a game that both teams need to win. With us both having just one win in our last six, it's a vital game for both sides. AFC are a team that like to get the ball down and play so I'm expecting it to be an excited game with both teams trying to play football the right way. Our last 2 defeats on the road were disappointing as I felt that our performances merited more than we got. That said, and I've said it to the lads. We need to be harder to break down, harder to score against, and harder to beat. As individuals and as a team we need to take that responsibility into today's game and make sure we give everything for the result.
Some bad news that Mark Buchan has injured his shoulder last week against Abbey Hey so we'll be without Buchs for the next few weeks. Hopefully the other strikers and rest of the team can start adding more goals to their games to ensure his absence does not effect us.
Ben Fletcher (Sponsored by S.E.I. [Maintenance] LTD) Superb young shot stopper that had a tremendous season last year. He kept numerous clean sheets and played every single minute of every single game. 2015/16 will be his 3rd season with the club where he’ll be looking to continue his fine form. Nathan Trout (Available for sponsorship) Nathan moved to the Fylde coast from Liverpool. A ball winning centre half that has a big presence on the pitch, he’ll be hoping to force his way into the team and make his position his own. Alex Colquhoun (Available for sponsorship) After a short spell at the club last season, Alex has returned to the club hungry and determined to play on a regular basis. He showed signs of quality last season and will be looking to cement his place in the 2015/16 season.
Brett Ferguson (Sponsored by Service Solutions Direct Ltd) One of the main characters within the changing room, “Channy” as he is called, always has stories to tell, consistently produced good displays during last season and got on the score sheet on numerous occasions. A very adaptable player that has made a huge impression on all within the club. Winner of Clubman of the Year 2014/15. Andy Richards (Available for sponsorship) A club stalwart! ‘Rico’ as he is known, has been with the club for many seasons and has become a linchpin of the side. His performances and changing room experience has played a vital role in recent success. A player with many superstitions that is well liked at the club. Josh Westwood (Sponsored by Mark Ashmore) Josh was a rock at the heart of defence during last season. He produced some fine individual displays and chipped in with a few headed goals. A quiet individual but very popular player that lets his feet, or head do the talking. Josh is also adaptable to play up front. Mike Hall (Available for sponsorship) Mike was only with Gate briefly last season but his knowledge and experience of the game was beneficial to all that played alongside him. He was influential in his performances and will be looking to have the same impact throughout the 2015/16 season. Conah Bishop (Available for sponsorship) Conah is one of the youngest players in the squad and plays on the right side of midfield. He has the pace to run at the opposition and can also score goals. He is a great addition to the team. Joe Noblet (Available for sponsorship) Joe had a spell with Gate a few seasons ago, and returned under the new management of Danny Penswick. He is an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal and will be sure to add goals to the squad.
Alex McKendrick (Available for sponsorship) Alex has been at the club for a number of seasons, first arriving under the stewardship of ex manager Russ McKenna. His work rate and willingness to do the unfashionable jobs in a game have been hugely important to the team. Injury put a halt to his 2014/15 season but he’ll be looking to come back a stronger player this season.
Billy McKenna (Available for sponsorship) The flying winger missed a large part of last season due to injury but is looking to make the right midfield position his own. A popular player within the changing room that can have a big influence on games when in the mood.
Antony Stayte (Available for sponsorship) Stayte is a great addition to the squad, who brings experience from his time at AFC Fylde and from teams in a higher tier. He knows how to organise and motivate his team mates and is very good at holding the ball up.
Ashley Rowley (Sponsored by TravelCare World) Ash joined Gate towards the end of last season, and impressed in the time he played. He scored a crucial equaliser at home to Congleton Town and will be looking to have an impact this season.
Danny Penswick (Sponsored by Bill White) Danny is the manager and captain of the club. He first joined midway through the 2013/14 season and soon established himself as a leader and highly influential player. His game understanding and levels of performance have seen him become a focal point of the team.
Mark Buchan (Available for sponsorship) Mark models himself on Ally McCoist. A fiery Scot that knows where the goal is. His workmanlike performances often go unnoticed, but he scored some valuable goals during last season. An influential player both on and off the pitch and will be a key player during this season.
Aaron Clarke (Available for sponsorship) Aaron was part of the Kirkham and Wesham squad which was victorious at Wembley in 2008. Unfortunately for Aaron, he picked up an injury the week before the final so didn’t take part in the game. A quick striker who possesses skill and eye for a pass and can also play in behind the striker in attacking midfield. Aaron will be looking to cement a spot up top and to fire Gate up the table.
Ryan Tanser (Available for sponsorship) Ryan joined the club in October and came off the bench in the 5-2 defeat away at Atherton Collieries. He scored his first goal for the club on his first full debut in our 5-1 win over Maine Road in the MEN United cup. He will bring goals to the team for sure.

Gate had another great chance soon after a missed Barnoldswick free kick. A good bust of pace from Ferguson to get away from his man down the line, he found Noblet who in turn found McKenna on the right. But McKenna could only find the side netting.
Again Buchan and Noblet who linked up well throughout the game had the chance to double Gates lead. Buchan finding Noblet in the box but no one could join him in the box for his cut back and the ball was cleared.
Barnoldswick had a good chance from a freekick after a Richards foul on the right hand side of the box but Fletcher did well to punch clear in a crowded Noblet and Buchan again combined box. Gate had yet another chance in well but the latters show when he got the first half this time another one on into the box was tame. The visitors one. But like McKenna’s before him went on to have a good spell of posses- Ferguson missed the target. After a strong tackle from Westwood in Billy McKenna had a chance a minute after the goal as he was sent through one on one but his shot was well saved by the keeper. A key point for Gate in the first half was how organised and disciplined they looked especially from the Maine Road game After containing a good spell of possession from Barnoldswick Gate burst forward. Colquhoun playing the ball to McKenna on the right but his shot went wide.
. After the two good chances for the visitors Gate had there own. The ball sent over the top to find the run of Billy McKenna he cut the ball back into the direction of Noblet but Barlick cleared the ball before the midfielder could get to it. But Noblet would get another chance this time from a little further out. He picked up the ball some 40 yards out before opening fire on goal. The keeper had plenty of time but seemed to push the ball up to try and get it over the cross bar but in turn the ball fell back down off his face and into the goal. This Noblet’s third long range goal this season clearly something he has an eye for. With three minutes added time shown Barnoldswick had a late 90th minutes chance to equalise from just outside the box. But the set piece was cleared by Gate who broke forward in numbers. Sub Tanser steaming into the box and with one of the last kicks of the game fired the ball over the bar and into the car park.

BRESLIN 10 10 NOBLET (ROWLEY 75) LANGFORD 11 11 Fergsuon (Hall 57) Squires Gate beat the weather again on Saturday when they travelled to Maine Road. The game passed a pitch inspection prior to kick off with Gate looking to replicate last weeks superb 2-1 win against Barnoldswick which saw Gate rise out of the relegation places. Gate were forced to make one change to the team that beat Barnoldswick with Nathan Thompson coming in for Ben Fletcher who missed his first game of the season with an injury. Maine Road had the first chance of the game when Jamie Roe made a late run to the edge of the box but he fired over. Gate played some good football early on when Buchan sent Billy McKennathrough but no one could meet his cross. McKenna again made good ground down the line he whipped the ball across the face of goal to find Buchan at the back post who got a touch to take it into the bottom corner and open the scoring for Gate. Road didn’t test debutant Thompson in net until the 28th minute.Gates next chance came from the corner but Trout’s header was cleared off the line. From the clearance the ball fell to Buchan at the edge of the box who hit the ball on the half volley but the ball fell the wrong side of the post. But for all Gates good pressure Road would equalise. Bang on 45 minutes Roads left back switched the ball to the opposite wing who fed the winger in front of him. He surged into the box a calmly slotted the ball past Thompson to equalise.
The home side continued their momentum into the second half and took the lead after 51 minutes. A dodgy decision from the official who penalised Trout for handball and booked him. A clever free kick carved Gate open with the man in the wall running the other side to be found and he scored the home sides second. As time played on Gate bought Mike Hall onto the pitch and he made an instant impact. First his low ball into the box was close to finding Buchan before he was involved in a lovely a Gate move. Hall laid the ball back to Colquhoun who spread the ball wide to find the run of Higham forward from left back he whipped in a superb cross but Fielding in goal smothered that before Buchan could meet it.Joe Noblet had the chance to level the game with a late run into the box on 75 minutes but his half volley was wide. Billy McKenna had another chance after the ball fell to him from the corner but his cross into the box clipped the crossbar and went out. Soon after down the other end Maine Road could have scored a third had it not have been for Thompson in net. He did very well to rise above the Road attackers from the corner to take the ball off the home sides captains head before he could meet it. Thompson was having a good game for Gate and it would have been harsh to blame him for either of the goals
. Ash Rowley made his way onto the pitch to replace Joe Noblet with 20 minutes left as Gate switched to a more direct attacking style with Josh Westwood also moving up top and Danny Penswick dropping back into the back four. But this didn’t help Gate who conceded a third four minutes from full time. Home substitute Connor Hughes finding the ball at his feet he side footed the ball to place it into the bottom corner. The score line is harsh on Gate and doesn’t represent the effort they put in. The loss means nothing in terms of league position for Gate who stay in 19th. Gate and bottom club Alsager away at Abbey Hey the only games on in the Premier Division means with no other games being played the league stays the same for Gate Reported by Mark Ashmore

The club was set up to provide a match-going experience for Liverpool fans who have been priced out of Premier League football. The club has adopted the same colours, fan songs and is based around the same community as Liverpool F.C.. The club is a non-profit organisation. The AFC Liverpool founder Alun Parry said "I've been going to Anfield since the late Seventies when I was six years old. A season ticket in the Kop cost £45 in 1985, today it's £650, which I know is a lot cheaper than some other Premier League clubs, but in inflation terms Eighties prices should equate to £98 today." He also stated that the formation of the club had nothing to do with the debated ownership of Liverpool. Parry stressed that the club was not to be estranged from Liverpool, but he hoped that it would look on AFC as a 'little brother'.
On 17 June 2008, AFC Liverpool were officially accepted into the North West Counties League Division One for the 2008–09 season. In addition to this, Prescot Cables also granted AFC Liverpool permission to play their home games at Valerie Park. AFC Liverpool club founder Alun Parry said: "Everybody at the club is delighted. We now have an excellent, atmospheric stadium to play in which has excellent transport links, making it easy for our fans to get to. And the decision of the league's AGM puts us as full memories
We caught up with AFC Liverpool programme editor Pau Smith and asked him a few questions about his club and football in general. Here’s what he had to say; What were your expectations going into this season, have they been met so far? If not, what are you hoping to get out of 2016? I never really have any expectations in terms of league placing or anything like that. I just want us to do as well as we can and enjoy it along the way. A run in the FA Vase is always nice, where you can hopefully visit new grounds but this year, in the FA Cup, we scored NINE at Chadderton and had a last minute winner against Radcliffe Borough to get further than we have ever done before, so I can’t complain. What has been your most memorable moment/game within your time at AFC Liverpool? Coming back to beat Everton 4-3 in the Liverpool Senior Cup in our only ever meeting with them so far. Which AFC players are the most threat? Any players that Gate should look out for? Apart from all of them, obviously, I think Gate fans are well aware of the goal threat of Mr Franny Barry, Ryan Cox and Steve Jones. However, two they might not be familiar with are the full backs, Jonathan Swatton and Michael Williams. Both like to push on and they also provide a great attacking threat down the flanks. If you were to sign any 3 PL players on a free transfer for AFC, who would they be and why? Number one on my list would be Alexis Sanchez. Not only is he talented but I think he gives it his all no matter what team he plays for. Number two would be N’Golo Kante (of Leicester City). Great at breaking up play and not afraid to take it forward either. Number three would be Xherdan Shaqiri. If he can do it on a cold Tuesday night in Stoke, I’m sure he could cut it in the North West Counties. Which team have impressed you so far this season? In the NWC, it would be Colne. Effective counter attacking side that will probably end up in the top two. In the pro game, Borussia Dortmund. They just want to score as many goals as possible. What has been the best goal you have ever seen, at any level? From NWC to PL? In the flesh, John Barnes’ second vs QPR. For AFC, a Joe Gibbons 25 yard screamer against Eccleshall, obviously. Live on TV, Dennis Bergkamp for Holland v Argentina, World Cup 1998. If you were to pick a 5 a side team, consisting of 2 AFC players and 3 PL legends, who would you pick? I’m not bothering with a keeper; they’ll just take turns. I just want goals, so it will be Ryan Cox and Steve Jones from AFC plus Robbie Fowler, Dennis Bergkamp and Luis Suarez. What is your favourite ground to visit? Here at Gate obviously. Always a friendly welcome. Same at West Didsbury too. Have you ever been to Wembley on any occasion? What would be your dream scenario there? 1988 FA Cup final. The less said the better. 1992 FA Cup final. Much better. The dream scenario now would be an AFC Liverpool FA Vase triumph. Prediction for today’s game? Gate 2-3 AFC Liverpool. That’s put the mockers on us then. Thanks for your time Paul.
Squires Gate 1-1 AFC Liverpool Tuesday 27th August 2013 Squires gate welcomed AFC Liverpool to the British Legion Stadium for tonights Northwest Counties Premier league match. After drubbing Wigan Robin Park 8-0 at the weekend the reds came into the game full if confidence and it was their striker Paul Brown who had the first chance of the game, his strike going straight at gate keeper Ben Fletcher though. Gate's Ben Fishwick came close with a low drive but the reds keeper just pushing it round the post. Afc Liverpool striker Ronnie Morgan should have opened up the scoring but his lob over the keeper going the wrong side of the post. In an end to end open game it was gate who broke the deadlock. Max Landless chipping the keeper and following up to tap in on 29 minutes. The reds Steve Corris should have score just before the break, his header was all but in but for Ben Fletcher pulling off a great save. Gate looked like they would get the next goal with Seydou Bamba, Ben Fishwick and Alex Ralph all going close but it was AFC Liverpool with a diving header from Paul Brown who made it 1-1 on
AFC Liverpool 2-1 Squires Gate Wednesday 19th March 2014 Squires Gate must feel they deserved a point at least, but it wasn’t until the last quarter of the game that they matched the home side. Gate during the first half rode thier luck, and chances were very few, Rogerson made a brilliant fingertip save in the last 10 minutes and held on to a respectable 0-0 half time draw. Into the 2nd half and it was much of the same, Rogerson being called upon to block Liverpool's advances, the home side took the lead on 63 mins when Neville Pickton scored from 30 yards out. The game could have gone either way until the home striker Steve Jones struck another blow on 89 mins, again from 30 yards out. This made Gate determined to push on, and, despite pushing forward, were unable to trouble the home keeper. All they had to show was a shot from Billy McKenna, which struck the top corner and bounced clear. The reward for all the pressure came on 90 mins when Daniel Penswick scored when the home side failed to clear a corner, he picked the ball from the net raced to get the game restarted. They piled on the pressure knowing that the time was slipping by, when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Penswick took the free kick, his shot beat the wall and keeper,
AFC Liverpool 0-0 Squires Gate Sat 24 Jan, 2015 Squires Gate stayed fifth in the league and claimed yet another point on the road. Gate faced AFC Liverpool, a team they have already faced twice this season, both in the FA Vase and the league. Liverpool were going through a rough patch of form as of late and have picked up just 4 points in their last six games. They also boast the league's top goal scorer, Ryan Cox, who has scored 21 goals this season. Gate remained unchanged from Saturdays team that beat West Didsbury 2-0 the only change coming on the bench where new signing Robbie Bromley could make his debut after signing from Padiham. It was the home team who were on top in the opening exchanges of the game and it was clear to see after the first 10 minutes that this was going to be a close game. Gate had their first chance on the 15th minute when Dunn's cross from the left found Alex Murphy at the back post but his header didn't test the keeper and fell wide. Gate seemed to be struggling with their usual passing game in the first half with their quality of passing below par at times. Gate had another chance 5 minutes later when Alex Murphy was fouled on the edge of the area. It was Murphy who took the resulting free kick buy he could only find the wall and when the ball fell to Alex McKendrick but his shot went well over the bar. Gate were unlucky not to go ahead on 35 minutes Alex Murphy's shot was pushed out by the goalkeeper and deflected just wide by the defender. The last chance of the first half fell to leading goal scorer Ryan Cox, he found his way between Westwood and Richards but Fletcher did enough in the one on one to deny him. Gate looked alot more positive in the second half of this game and with just 5 minutes on the clock racked up 3 consecutive corners. Gate though struggled to find the back of the net from any of the set pieces. Gates next chance came on the counter, after Gate soaked up pressure from the home side they struck on the break but Buchan's shot was easily saved by the keeper. It was a tail of the two keepers in the space of two minutes both making game winning saves to keep their teams in the game. The home side almost took the lead through Ryan Cox but Gate's Ben Fletcher was more than equal to tip the shot over and keep Gate in the game. It was then Liverpool's turn to defend Billy McKenna sent in behind and his shot into the bottom corner looked destined to win Gate the game but keeper Ryan Jones got a strong hand to the ball to deflect it wide. Gate had the last chance of the game and could have won it the corner finding Westwood's head but his header fell wide of the post.
Squires Gate 2-1 AFC Liverpool
Sat 21 Feb, 2015 The game started very evenly with both teams trying to keep the ball and play football. In AFC Liverpool's ranks was Leading league Goal scorer Ryan Cox who with 29 goals in all competitions would possess a threat all afternoon. Both sides were creating chances in the opening 30 but both missed something extra in the box to finish the chances that were being made. Gates best chance of the first half came when Harry Dunn was sent though, but the AFC Liverpool goalkeeper beat Dunn to the ball to stop what would have been a sure fire goal. Moving nearer to half time and both teams had chances but none were clear cut opportunities. The second half started very positively for Gate who could and possibly should have been ahead. The ball played across the six yard box to find Sean Holmes to score the simple tap in but he was ruled to be offside. Gate again found themselves in the box shortly after but even with 3 players in there they couldn't find the finishing touch. Gate finally found the break through on 73 minutes, the ball headed back into the box from the freekick found Mark Buchan at the back post for an easy tap in to open the scoring. But it took Liverpool just four minutes to reply, no-one reacting quick enough to close down Loughlin on the edge of the box who's shot found the top corner to bring the game level on 77 minutes. Gate could have been awarded a penalty on the 80th minute when Mark Buchan was bundled to the ground, the referee though deciding to award a free kick instead right on the edge of the box. Gate couldn't capitalise from the free kick but were getting closer. Gate would have to wait until the 87th minute for their second of the game. Michael Hall sending the ball over to the
2015 REVIEW Media man Mark Ashmore takes a look back on 2015 and the ups and downs the year bought Squires Gate.
January saw Gate go into the new year on the back of an impressive run of form. Having only lost 1 game in 12 games since October, they started the year away at Nelson and were seconds away from starting the year with a win. Gate were 3-1 up heading into the last 10 minutes and the closing minutes of the game were nervy for the defence. The home side were literally dominating possession and throwing everything they had forward with 6 shots in the space of 2 minutes. Nelson got their reward in the 96th minute, seconds on the clock as Gate couldn’t clear their lines and Keiron Walmsley buried from 30 yards. The next 3 games saw Gate draw at home to a struggling St Helens side, a well fought 2-0 win against a good West Didsbury and an impressive defensive display against a well equipped AFC Liverpool team. Gate were now on a run of 1 defeat in 16 games which explained why they were sat 6th in the NWCFL. Squires Gate ended January against the same team who started the run, Glossop North End, who were 2nd in the league. Glossop had too much for Gate and run out 2-0 victors.
Gate hosted bottom of the league Bacup to start February. After a scrappy 4-3 win back in October 2014, the home side were looking to do the double over the Boro. Having lost to Glossop North End a fortnight ago, Gate had a shaky start as the visitors looked like the ones on form and were testing to see if the defence was awake. McKenna and Dunn had good chances to open the scoring for the hosts, but the keeper had it covered. for Boro was playing a blinder. It was Billy Mckenna who would open the scoring with a low drive at the near post before Sub Brett Ferguson scuffed his shot into the bottom corner from fellow sub Robbie Bromley's cross.
Ten days later Gate travelled to face Glossop, the last team to beat them, this time in the MEN United Cup Quarter Final. Unfortunately for Gate we went out to a 3-0 loss to eventual Men United Cup winners Glossop. Gate got back to winning ways the following Saturday at home to an out of form AFC Liverpool. Gate finding the break through late into second half when Mark Buchan opened the scoring on 73 minutes. Gates lead didn't last long though as AFC equalised four minutes later though Buchan would again find the net 10 minutes later to give Gate the lead and secure the three points. The month ended with another win this time back on the road. Seventh place Abbey Hey were the hosts and took the lead after 3 minutes. But Mark Buchan in good form found the net either side of half time to end February on a high.
March started with three league draws for Gate, two of which against title contenders. The big game against Linnets drew a bumper crowd of 350 on a cold Tuesday night and with Linnets winning four of their last six games proved a tough test. Linnets opened the scoring after 28 minutes through Michael White though Gate had four clear chances to equalise in the last five minutes of the first half. Gate continued the good pressure and equalised five minutes into the second half. Mark Buchan again in the right place at the right time to meet Richards cross into the near post. After a week's rest Gate travelled to Winsford to play 1874 Northwich. Just a late equaliser from 1874 stood in the way of three points for Gate. Chris Lunn equalising in the 88th minute after Alex Murphy's first half header gave Gate the lead. The return tie against Linnets was next up for Gate but was a day to forget. Gate couldn't replicate their performance from the tie earlier in the month losing 2-0 to the league leaders. The end of the month ended with Gates only win of March. West Didsbury away on a cold and very wet Tuesday night. In testing conditions two first half goals were the difference as Gate grinded out victory.
In the last month of the 2014/15 season Gate got off to a brilliant start. Local referee Michael Salisbury was spectating for pleasure but was called into action in the first half. The match ref being taken ill 15 minutes into the game, luckily for Gate Salisbury was more than happy to run the line for the remainder of the match. A 2-0 win at home to Runcorn Town Alex Murphy opening the scoring with a penalty. He had the chance to make it two again from the spot in the second half but this time the Town keeper guessed the right way to save the spot kick. Murphy made up for his spot kick miss in the 88th minute when he met Richards cross to score. The game ended disappointingly with Josh Kay being shown a second yellow late on for a stupid challenge. The second derby of the year took place next. In front of a healthy crowd of 380 mostly protesting Blackpool fans, the game didn't live up to the hype and ended 0-0. Assistant manager Richard Thomas took charge of the next game with manager Dave McCann unavailable for the tie. Unfortunately he and the team weren't able to overcome a strong 1874 team in what was a close tie. In fact an unfortunate own goal from Brett Ferguson was the only difference with 1874 taking all three points when both perhaps deserved one each. Congleton town were up next at home for Gate. In the second to last game of the season Gate made the worst start and when behind after two minutes. Scott McGowan putting the bears ahead from the free kick. Into the second half and after many chances Gate manager Dave McCann bought himself off the bench to add an extra threat up top for the last 10 minutes. McCann's tactical gamble would pay off with him and Westwood now pushed up top as main targets. It was the later who was involved as he found the ball on the edge of the area slipped Ash Rowley in behind. The winger staring his first game since joining from Thornton slotted his shot past the keeper late on to rescue a point in Gates last home game of the season. Gates last game of the season had us travelling one of the furthest distances to Alsager. Gate had the chance to cement a record season with the win and did just that! Two goals from Alex Murphy meaning a record breaking season for Gate. Some of the records are as follows. Highest NWCFL Premier Division league position (6). Highest amount of draws (16). Least amount of NWCFL Premier Division losses (7). Most goals scored in a NWCFL Premier Division season (19) and probably may more in forgetting! A season of highs for Gate not just records but also the sale of striker Jack Sowerby to Football League Club Fleetwood Town.

Form: The league season started with a trip to Winsford to play 1874 Northwich. But a poor first half performance condemned Gate to defeat with 1874 going 2-0 up before half time. Though a positive improvement from Gate in the second half with new signings Terry Cummings and Nathan Trout both looking lively. AFC Liverpool were up next. Gate had a very good first half much like how the 1874 game ended. Though the prolific Ryan Cox scored one of Liverpool's only chances of the first half beating Fletcher at the near post. Next up a trip to Hull in the FA Cup. A coach load of fans and players made the 3 hour trip. Josh Kay scored two superb goals in the first half before Ben Fletcher saved a penalty all before half time. The hoe side did well to come back after the break with a spirited performance and grabbed two goals back. So the game went to a replay on the following Tuesday. A role reversal from the first game as Gate this time found themselves 2-0 down at half time. Gate got a goal back through a Buchan penalty before Billy Mckenna, moved into the middle, finished into the bottom corner from outside the box. Into extra time Gate were first caught out through a ball over the top of the defence before Anderson was left one on one and outpaced by the attacker. Up next was the best team Gate had faced so far, recently relegated Cammell Laird 1907. Goals from Terry Cummings after 2 minutes and Josh Kay after 48 wasn't enough to win the game as Lairds scored two in between. A close 3-4 game against newly promoted Atherton Colls followed James Kirby grabbing the winning goal after coming off the bench on 67 minutes. Gate ended the month with a disappointing 3-0 defeat away at Barnoldswick. Five first team players missing for Gate with three reserve team players making the step up onto the bench.
Form: DDWDDLL September started at home to Nelson in front of a healthy crowd of 105. The game saw Josh Kay return from injury to open the scoring after 7 minutes. Nelson equalised a minute before half time but Gate took the lead again through Terry Cummings. But Nelson again fought back and equalised for the second time in the match in the 82nd minute. Another draw followed, this time against First Division side Irlam in the FA Vase. Gate won the reply in Irlam with Mark Buchan scoring the winning goal, a penalty, in the 72nd minute. That the only win for Gate in September as we went on to draw against Ashton Athletic and AFC Darwen. A spell of losses followed for Gate first at Congleton then Colne. Unfortunately the Colne defeat spelled the end of Dave McCann's tenure at the club. The manager who the season before had brought brilliant success to the club leaving 13 games into the season. Gate travelled to Runcorn Town under the interim stewardship of secretary John Maguire. Unfortunately Gate were beaten by in form Runcorn Town 5-0.
Form: After beating Irlam earlier in the season Gate hosted Winsford in the next round of the FA Vase. The game kicked off a new era with captain Danny Penswick making the step up to fill the position of first team player/manager. He took charge of the Winsford cup tie but unfortunately the game ended in a 2-0 defeat for his first taste of management. His second came on the road at Padiham. New signing Joe Noblet made his second debut for the club having been signed from Kendal. The midfielder was quality back in 2013 for the club before moving onto Stockport County. His quality showed and helped Gate to a narrow 1-0 win over Padiham. Mark Buchan with the only goal 9 minutes from time to register Gates and Penswick's first win of the season. Another form team stood in the way of Gate up next as we travelled to Bootle. But all the good we'd displayed at Padiham seemed to be nonexistent as Bootle cruised to a 5-1 victory. Gate seemed to have learnt from the loss with a 3-1 win at home to struggling Silsden though the following two games both ended in defeat with West Didsbury and Atherton Colls getting the better of Gate. Gate bounced back in superb fashion with one of the best performances seen under Penswick. A 5-1 win away at Maine Road to progress to the next round of the MEN United Cup, Gate 4-0 up before half time with new signing Ryan Tanser scoring on his debut. Gates last game in the month saw us do the double over Padiham. The first team Gate won a league game against also the first team we did the double over. Ash Rowley scored the winner with 9 minutes left of the game to add a valuable three points to the tally
Form: November started to show signs of the winter weather with just three of an available six games able to be played. The first featured the only win of the month. A nine goal thriller at home to AFC Darwen who had just changed manager the game before. Mark Buchan opened the scoring for Gate after just a minute before Conor Gaul equalised after nine. Gate took the lead again through Noblet into half time. Darwen then equalised again after the break before Mark Buchan scored his second of the game. Ryan Tanser then Mark Buchan both struck to put Gate into a comfortable lead before Darwen got one back from the penalty spot late on. Ryan Riley came on as sub and beat 3 men before making it 6 for Gate, a great start to the month! The bad weather forced Gates next three games to be postponed games away at Cammell Laird and Nelson as well as a home tie against Winsford. When Gate finally got a game on in was away at West Didsbury. Unfortunately the mixture of a poor pitch and an out of form team meant Gate went down to a 3-0 loss. After beating Maine Road last month in the MEN United Cup Gate were drawn at home to top of the league Colne, probably the hardest tie they could have got. Gate gave a good account of ourselves taking the lead through Rowley after 7 minutes before Kenny Taylor equalised on 31. Jason Hart then gave Colne the lead on 53 minutes before Gate equalised through Mark Buchan on75 minutes. Had the game been a 90 minute league game Gate would have picked up a very impressive point but the game went to extra time and this is where the league leaders showed there quality. A double from Danny Boyle and one from Ben Allen condemning Gate took a defeat to end the month and end there cup hopes.
Form: As if three games wasn't bad enough in November December saw us play just one game. Games at home to Bootle and an already rearranged game away at Cammell Laird both beaten by the weather. The only game of the month came at home to Maine Road and Gate will have wished it was off after the result. An impressive young Road team looked fitter and more up for the game than Gate. They took a two goal lead before half time before scoring another three in the second half without reply from Gate. Gates derby against AFC Blackpool was also postponed on boxing day. Not the best end to what has been an emotional year for Gate full of highs and lows.

Squires Gate chairman Stuart Hopwood gives his thoughts on the events of 2015, and what he is hoping for this year. After Dave McCann resigned as manager back in September, Stuart appointed Danny Penswick as manager. Here is what the chairman had to say; What were your expectations for this season? Have they been met so far? If not, what are your new expectations? After last season I thought we would have had a good chance of finishing in the top six again this season, but a poor start saw us sit in the bottom three at the start of December so I had to rethink my expectations. I don’t want to put any pressure on the new management so I’ll give him some time to settle in first. However, the club is moving forward in the right direction. What do you think was the best result of 2015? We had quite a few goof results at the end of last season, but I think the recent 5-1 away win at Maine Road was the best result. Being able to score 5 goals away from home was a great achievement. Who was the toughest opponent, in your opinion? I’m going to say Colne. They always seem to beat us heavily, and they have a lethal pair up front in Danny Boyle and Chris Wademan so they always give our defence a restless game. How many points are you aiming for between now and the end of the season? (Jan - Apr) Ideally I am hoping for 49 points , which means we need 30 points from the remaining 20 games. But again, I don’t want to put any pressure on the management team. With a double header with AFC Blackpool still yet to come up, how many points will you be wanting? Our games against our neighbours are always tough, and they aren’t having the easiest season either so I would like to repeat last seasons results and get 4 points. It’s always good to beat your local rivals. A general football question; If you were to pick 2 Squires Gate players and 3 players who have played in the Premier League. Who would they be? Tough question. I’d have Fletch in goal because he has been a top keeper for us within his time here. I’d also have Josh Westwood at centre back. As a Liverpool fan, I’ll have to go for a midfield consisting of Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard, and Jamie Vardy up front. Finally, what is your prediction for today’s game? I’m going to say a Squires Gate win. Come on the Gate!
