The Gaffer ANDY CLARKSON “OUR LAST FOUR GAMES HAVE SEEN US TAKE 10 POITNS FORM 12 AND THE LADS HAVE GROWN IN CONFIDENCE AND BELIEF IN THEIR OWN ABILITY” I would like to welcome the management , players ,committee and fans from Ashton athletic to the Brian Addison stadium for today’s game .It promises to be an entertaining game with two sides in decent form ,May the best team win . Our last four games have seen us take 10 points from 12 and the lads have grown in confidence and belief in their own ability, My assistant terry green has been working the lads hard in training and the lads are responding to the commitment and honesty that terry and myself expect , It’s early days for us but if we can show this level of desire right up until the end of the season we will avoid relegation and maybe push for a mid table Finnish .All the players at our club know what is expected of them and I hope they are enjoying it so far as much as terry and myself are.
Thanks Clarky

Saturday 28th October 2017 // Brian Addison Stadium // Attendance: 80 Gate made the perfect start to the game opening the scoring after just four minutes. Gary Pett heading the ball into the path of Dean Ing who scrambled the ball home inside the six yard box. The visitors went close on 16 minutes with a bit of luck involved. Striker Adegbenro closed down a back pass to Ben Fletcher and his goal kick rebounded off the striker but went over the bar. Tarren Moxon had a brilliant chance of 17 minutes when he stormed into the box. He jinked past his man into the box but his fierce effort was tipped over the bar. From the resulting corner, Gate would grab their second of the game. The corner played short found its way to Dean Ing who battled well, in the corner of the six yard box. He played the ball back to Pett who fired past the keeper for his first of the game. Congleton could have grabbed a goal back on 24 minutes but keeper Ben Fletcher made a superb save. He hooked the ball off the line causing the visitors to appeal to the linesman who waved away the protests. Jack Williams came close to playing in Pett just before half time. He jinked past two but his ball through to Pett was too heavy.
HALF TIME: Squires Gate 2-0 Congleton Town Gate would start the second half on the front foot, extending their lead after three minutes. From a superb corner in, Gary Pett rose highest to power in the header for his second of the game. Dean Ing came close to scoring what could have been a goal of the season contender. From the half way line he stormed forward skipping challenges before getting into the box, only for the keeper to save his shot. Late on into the game Tarren Moxon would come close, much like in the first half. Gary Pett winning the flick on to find the winger but he curled his shot just wide. New signing Tyler Atack was introduced late on and had the chance to open his account for the club. Unfortunately he was on his own and fired over the bar. In the 89th minute keeper Ben Fletcher had to be alert to save a fierce shot, before the visitors out the ball back in and Peters headed in.

SQUIRES GATE (BUCHAN 35)
Tuesday 31st October 2017 // TDP Solicitors Stadium // Attendance: 321 A penalty to Gate after 35 minutes gave the away side the lead through Mark Buchan before a backs against the wall performance in the second half sealed the win. The homeside came out all guns blazing in the first 20 minutes putting Gate under pressure. They went long early on putting Gate under pressure. From an early Corner the ball was cleared before Andrew Richards cleared the ball back in at the back post. Gates first chance of the game came after three minutes. A freekick finding the head of Gary Pett who headed into Tarren Moxon but he couldn’t meet the flick on. After five minutes the home side went long again, Lewis Masters missed the first ball before Paul Carroll was there to clear up. Jack Williams and Gary Pett tried to link up after 19 minutes in the box, but the homeside’s defence crowded them out. Gates best chance of the first half came after 24 minutes. Alex Colquhoun played a long ball into the box to find Tarren Moxon but he couldn’t get a strong enough touch and the keeper collected.
Another freekick to Gate found both Buchan and Pett but neither could get a shit away before the ball fell to Richards who fired over. The turning point in the game came after 35 minutes. Gal Pett pushed in the box for a blatant penalty for the visitors. Striker Mark Buchan stepped up for his fourth in four games to convert the penalty. City of Liverpool came out for the second half and countered from an early Gate attack. The attack came to nothing though as the homesides number 7 crosses our for a goal kick. The homeside then played a great ball across the box on 52 minutes but nobody could meet the ball with Alex Colquhoun clearing the ball at the back post with a man waiting. The homeside came close on 65 minutes when they fired just wide of Ben Fletcher’s post. New signing Dan Gray made his debut for the club mate in and went close from the edge of the box but fires wide. Another new signing, Tyler Atack, went close twice late on but couldn’t convert them for the away side

Ashton had a very good seasons last year under this management fishing a massive 9th and are always in and round that area each season . This season will be except and I sure with the few new faces in the team Ashton and the management team will be challenging again up the top off the table
BREIF HISTORY The club was formed in 1968, initially as a Sunday league club playing in the Wigan Sunday League. After winning every division in the league in successive seasons, they switched to playing Saturday football, joining the Warrington & District League. Success in the Warrington League saw the club join the Lancashire Combination in 1978.However, the move up saw the club struggle, finishing bottom of the league in 1978–79 and 1981–82.When the league merged with the Cheshire County League to form the North West Counties League in 1982, Ashton were placed in Division Three, which they finished bottom of in both 1982–83 and 1983–84. After a fourteenth-place finish in 1984–85, they finished bottom of the table again in 1985–86. At the end of the season the club were expelled from the league due to Brocstedes Park failing to meet the ground grading criteria. They subsequently dropped into Division One of the Manchester League. They continued to struggle in the Manchester League, with several lower-half finishes before finishing bottom of Division One in 1989–90. They finished bottom again in 1994–95, The 2005–06 season saw them finish fourth in Division One, and after applying for rejoin the North West Counties League following improvements to Brocstedes Park, the club were accepted into Division Two, bypassing the Premier Division of the Manchester League. In 2007–08 a third-place finish saw them promoted to the renamed Premier Division of the league.[3] Although they finished bottom of the division in 2010–11, they were reprieved from relegation after New Mills were promoted from the division and Formby were relegated due to a breach of the rules. In 2013–14 they won the Challenge Cup, defeating Maine Road 1–0 in the final. The 2016–17 season saw them win the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy with a 2–1 win over Radcliffe Borough in the final.

SQUIRES GATE
1
This game was as important in Gates season as well. A win for Penswick's men would see them mathematically safe with New Mills only drawing on Saturday. Gates league status is vertically seduces anyway, bar four wins from their last four games for New Mills. Gate started this game superbly and looked to have adjusted well to Penswick's tactical switch of three up front. They opened the scoring after two minutes when Joe Noblet reacted quickest when keeper Martin Pearson dropped Tarren Moxon's cross into the box. Noblet made no mistake in firing the ball into the roof of the net to give Gate the lead. Ashton would equalise in some style 15 minutes later with a well worked goal. The ball was played low into the back post where the Ashton striker back heeled the ball past Griffith into the bottom corner. Gates overall performance on the pitch was very encouraging in the first half reacting well to going behind and still trying to carve out chances for the front three. First Max Rothwell took aim from outside the box but fired wide before Joe Noblet tried to grave another goal, but also fired wide. As the first half came to a close Ashton had a couple of chances to give them hope for the second half. First Ashton broke forward and fired wide from the right hand side. Then after Pearson in the Ashton net punched clear before Alexander could head from a corner, Ashton had three successive corners all defended well by Gate. Compared to the first half, the second half was completely different for Gate. The phrase 'game of two halves' has never been so appropriate for Gate. Ashton would take the lead after 69 minutes. After a shaky start for Gate Ashton struck with two passes and a clever finish. Tarren Moxon gave the ball away up front trying to play in Jordan Casey, Ashton broke forward down the right and crossed the ball low into the box to find a spare man at the back post to fire past Griffith. The second half started to fizzle out for Gate who didn't really get back into the game until the last 10 minutes. Late chances from free kicks and corners couldn't be converted. Corey Moorhead specifically did well to stretch to keep in a late corner but Gate couldn't capitalise from the follow up.

SATURDAY 5th August 2017
Gate made a slow start to the game going behind after 11 minutes. After Gary Pett turned and shot over the bar it was clear it wasn't going to be Gate's day. Ashton allowed too much time outside the box, striker Joel Brownhill firing past Fletcher. Gate's first meaningful effort on goal didn't come until the half hour mark. Brett Dawson sending a rasping shot which was saved by Martin Pearson who spilled the ball, Mark Buchan unable to capitalise on the loose ball which was cleared. Ashton would grab a second goal just before half time. Midfielder Jamie Harrison lining up a freekick from the edge of the box to beat Ben Fletcher to his left hand side. The goal doubling Ashton's lead into half time. The visitors would continue their good form into the second half taking the lead nine minutes in. Striker Joel Brownhill grabbing his second of the game when he was allowed to walk through Gate's midfield with nobody closing him down. Gary Pett had another rare chance for Gate on 63 minutes but his header was over the bar. Midfielder Dean Ing was introduced on the 60 minute mark and almost made an instant impact. His cross in from the right hand side almost went straight in, the follow up corner cleared off the line from Pett's header. Ashton strike Joel Brownhill would cap of a perfect afternoon for himself on the 75th minute when he fired in from a tight angle inside the box for his hatrick goal.

LAST TIME OUT? SQUIRES GATE 1 WIDNES 2 The game started at a frantic pace with both teams looking evenly matched. Gates first chance of the game came from Jack Williams, he created space but fired over the bar. Widnes then came down the other end but dragged their shot wide in what was a clear example of how the game was turning out.It would be Gate that would open the scoring in the game after 27 minutes. Mark Buchans shot was blocked before the ball fell to Dean Ing who tapped in past the Widnes keeper. Gate would go onto, for the first time this season keep their lead upto half time. The visitors would equalise after 52 minutes. Ben Fletcher struggling to keep hold of the ball and Widnes pounced to tap into the net. Widnes would then double their lead on 64 minutes. Ben Fletcher saving the initial shot but he couldn't keep hold of the ball, Widnes on hand to fire in the loose ball. Gate themselves had some great chances to equalise the game but just couldn't find that slice of luck. Nick Greenall headed over after 66 minutes after a good corner in from Mark Buchan. The last chance of the game fell to Jack Williams. From in his own half he tried a speculative effort that clipped the bar a shot which summed up Gate's performance.

THE EUROPEAN CUP KICKS OFF GERMANY’S GOLDEN PLAYER
1955 1920
On 31 October 1920, Kaiserslautern and West Germany legend Fritz Walter was born. Gifted with a remarkable combination of ball control, vision, and agility, Walter, who was born in Kaiserslautern, spent his entire career with his hometown club. He made his first-team debut for them at the age of 17, but World War II interrupted his career for several years. Play resumed in 1945 and Walter soon guided the team to their first major silverware, winning league titles in 1951 and 1953. He retired in 1959 with a record of 380 goals in 411 league appearances. In 1985, the club renamed their stadium after him. His greatest achievement, however, came with the West German national team in 1954, when he captained them to their first World Cup trophy, beatin g Hungary 3-2 in a final known as "the Miracle of Bern" (Hungary were up 0-2 after only 8 minutes before West Germany rallied for the win). Despite the wartime hiatus, Walter earned 61 caps between 1940 and 1958, scoring 33 goals. When UEFA, in preparation for their fiftieth anniversary in 2004, asked each member nation to name their one greatest player--the Golden Players--of the previous fifty years, Germany selected Walter. He passed away in June 2002 at the age of 81.
PERU START DOWN THE PATH
1927
On 1 November 1927, Peru played their first official international, losing 0-4 to Uruguay in the South American Championship. The history of Peruvian football dates back to the second half of the nineteenth century, when it was introduced by English sailors in the port of Callao. Its popularity quickly spread, with clubs sprouting up all across the country. That, in turn, led to the creation of the Peruvian Football Federation in 1922. An unofficial national team played an exhibition against Uruguay that year, but it took another five years to form an official team sanctioned by FIFA. The catalyst was Peru's role as host of the 1927 South American Championship (the tournament now known as the Copa AmĂŠrica). They played their first match of the tournament against Uruguay at the Estadio Nacional in Lima and lost, 0-4 (the first goal was an own goal scored by Peru's Daniel Ulloa). They followed it with a 3-2 win over Bolivia and a 5-1 loss to Argentina to finish third out of
THE YANKS GET THE POINT On 2 November 1997, the United States earned their first point in Mexico, playing El Tri to a scoreless draw in a World Cup qualifier. The US-Mexico rivalry dates back to 1934, when the teams met in Rome for a World Cup qualifier, with the US wining 4-2. But Mexico won the next match, a 7-2 win in Mexico City in 1937, then continued to dominate the US over the next several years, not losing to them again until 1980. By the time they met for that 1997 qualifier, played before a crowd of 115,000 at the Estadio Azteca, the US had turned things around, winning four and drawing three of the last ten. But they had lost nineteen straight in Mexico, dating back to that first loss in 1937. Nevertheless, they managed to hold the Mexican team scoreless to walk out with a 0-0 draw. Points in Mexico continue to be elusive for the US, with their next ones not coming until a 1-0 win in August 2012.

NWCFL NEWSLETTER In the Premier Division, Runcorn Town extended their lead at the top of the table to three points, with a 4-1 win in the Cheshire derby clash at Barnton. Christopher Smith opened the scoring for Barnton, but goals from Craig Cairns and Joseph Holt had Town ahead at the break, and second half goals from Paul McManus (a penalty) and Mark Reed in the 90th minute sealed the win. Town's lead at the top was extended as second placed Runcorn Linnets were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Barnoldswick Town. Daniel O'Brien's 28th minute goal had Linnets ahead at the break, but an equaliser from Andrew Hill 17 minutes from time pinched a point for Barlick. The award for first half performance of the day goes to Hanley Town, who ran in five goals without reply in the opening 36 minutes of the game at AFC Darwen. Dan Cope scored twice alongside other goals from Mackenzie Faulkner, Joshua Thorpe and Oliver Mellor, and although the home side reduced the arrears in the second half through Luke Cassidy and Matthew Allen, Hanley's 5-2 win moved them into third place, a point ahead of Charnock Richard who beat Irlam 1-0 thanks to an Ashley Young goal just after the hour. Bootle lost ground on the front runners after falling to a 1-0 defeat at home to 1874 Northwich, Jake Parker doing the damage with the only goal in the 51st minute. Winsford United moved up into sixth place with a 4-3 win over AFC Liverpool, with Blues manager Lee Duckworth one of the goalscorers in the victory at the St Lukes Barton Stadium. City of Liverpool moved into eighth place after coming from behind to win 2-1 at Burscough. Jamie Clark gave the home side a 10th minute lead, John McGrath levelled for the Purps seven minutes before the break, and Karl Noon struck the winner five minutes from time. There was a dramatic finish at the YESSS Electrical Arenea where Padiham scored twice in stoppage time to steal a point in a 3-3 draw with Widnes. The visitors had established a 3-1 lead through Jack Banister, Bradley Smart and Kevin Pollard but last gasp strikes from Dominic Craig and Spencer Jordan dashed the victory celebrations. Ashton Athletic transferred their good recent cup form into league points with a 3-0 win at Maine Road, Ben Cartwright, Charlie Monroe and Dale Korie-Butler on target for the Yellows. A penalty in the fourth minute from Brian Matthews and Jason Hart's first goal for the club set Northwich Victoria on the way to a 2-1 win at Abbey Hey, and a double from Gary Pett helped Squires Gate to a much needed 3-1 win over Congleton Town.
In the First Division, the Silsden winning machine keeps cranking out the victories in impressive style, their 5-1 home win over FC Oswestry Town being their 14th successive league win. Joe Gaughan and Kyle Hancock both scored twice for the Cobbydalers. Prestwich Heys remain in second place after a 4-1 win over Nelson at Adie Moran Park, with Rio WilsonHeyes, Daniel White, Jamie Baguley and Matthew Grimshaw on target for Heys after David Patrick had given Nelson an early lead. Litherland REMYCA wasted no time in stamping their authority on Daisy Hill, with Joel Douglas opening the scoring in the first minute to set his side on the way to a 4-0 win, and adding another goal to his tally in the second half. Michael Pino, Oliver Jepson and Jordan Erdman were on target for Alsager Town in the 3-0 home win over Bacup Borough that keeps them in fourth place, four points ahead of Sandbach United who kept up with the chasing pack thanks to James Kirby's goal on the stroke of half time earning a 1-0 win over Stockport Town. Whitchurch Alport's trip to Carlisle City began well when Joseph Howell gave them an 8th minute lead, but goals from Robert McCartney, Daniel Greenslade and Josh Simpson ensured a 3-1 win for the home side. Alport, however, still occupy the final promotion play-off place on goal difference from Cammell Laird 1907, who salvaged a point in a 2-2 draw at New Mills thanks to a last minute equaliser from Charlie Macinnes. After going behind early on at Chadderton, a double before half time from Theodore Kidd set Atherton LR on the way to a 3-1 win, their third in succession on the road, and Holker Old Boys picked up their second away win of the season from the long trip down to Abbey Hulton United. Goals from Robbie Wallace, Danny Keenan and an Own Goal built a 3-0 lead before half time for the Stags that they held until the end. Antony Trucca, Richard Whyatt and Luke Pearson all hit the back of the net for Cheadle Town in the 3-2 win at St Helens Town, and goals in the last 17 minutes from Daniel Needham and Declan Arber ensured Eccleshall picked a point from a 2-2 draw at home to AFC Blackpool.
