THE BOSS ANDY CLARKSON “ MY LADS ARE PLAYING SOME GREAT ATTACKING FOOTBALL CURRENTLY BUT WE HAVE TO CUT OUT MISTAKES AND STOP SWITCHING OF ALLOWING THE OPPOSING TO GET BACK IN THE GAME ” I would like to welcome the players and officials from Barnoldswick for today's match, My lads are playing some great attacking football currently but we have to cut out mistakes and stop switching off allowing the opposing team to get back in the game , it is something we have addressed by looking at bringing in one or two more experienced lads and asking the current lads to sort out, Hope you all welcome new signing Billy Akrigg who will give us strength and legs in the middle of the park. Billy I'm sure will be a big player for us. Also , Adam Sumner has turned down an offer from clitheroe and Ben fletcher has turned down an approach from my old assistant terry green who now manages Burscough , which obviously I'm delighted about . It just shows how far we have come as a club in attracting players of his calibre . We have turned the club round from being nice little squire gate into a team that opposing teams now think twice about playing.
Let's hope today can bring us the points. Hope you all enjoy the game .

Saturday 9th February 2019 / The Brian Addison Stadium /NWCFL PREMIER DVIISION/Attendance:86 Squires Gate were on the wrong end of goal fest on Saturday afternoon in a rearranged fixture with Silsden. It was a game that was well worth the return visit for anyone that watched the original game which was postponed due to a power failure at the club. Manager Andy Clarkson made one change to his starting 11 as Ben Reader came into the defence for Adam Sumner who was unavailable. Captain Joe Booth returned to the bench as he comes closer to returning from injury. Gate made a good start to the game and got in on goal in the first minute of the game. A fortunate deflection off a Silsden defender fell into the path of Ric Seear, he slid the ball into the path of Dean Ing but his touch was too heavy. The good start continued for Gate and just a minute later Clarkson's side took the lead. The ball was hung up to the back post by Dan Gray, he found Ric Seear who headed back across goal to find James Boyd who volleyed past the keeper. Silsden came close from a corner but Ben Fletcher did well to save before Seydou Bamba blocked the ball and Ryan Charnley cleared. The visitors kept the pressure up and equalised a minute later. The ball was only cleared to the edge of the box where Arley Barnes was waiting to fire past Ben Fletcher with a thunderous strike. Riccardo Egidi was sent through on goal on 15 minutes as he looked to regain Gate's lead but he was denied in the box by a superb last ditch tackle. Ryan Charnley looked to find Ric Seear to give Gate the lead again but Seear's header from Charnley's free kick was saved point blank by the keeper.
Silsden came from behind and doubled their lead half an hour into the game with a goal that Gate won't want to see back again Too easy down Gate's right hand side, with acres of space Silsden's left back crossed into the six yard box where the unmarked Niall Sultan was there to tap in at the back post. The goals didn't end as an action packed first half moved towards half time. Gate would equalise 10 minutes from the break when Ric Seear was found at the back post to tap in a low cross. Sadly though the equaliser soon meant nothing as the visitors again took the lead. Gate hit on the counter as they looked to take the lead, with men left forward Silsden broke forward before Chris Wademan scored from a tight angle at the back post. Again Gate came back though and on the stroke of half time Andy Clarkson's men again equalised. Sam Staunton-Turner sent in a teasing ball to find Ric Seear in behind, he beat his man and squared to the back post where Riccardo Egidi was waiting to tap in.
Half time: Squires Gate 3-3 Silsden The second half saw a moment of controversy for Gate when Ric Seear gave Gate the lead in the 67th minute but the goal was ruled out for offside. Silsden then looked to take advantage of the ruled out goal and took the lead. The original shot from Silsden hit the post before a cross back into the box was headed past Ben Fletcher by Aiden Kirby to win the game for Silsden.

Saturday 16th February 2019 / St Luke’s Barnton Stadium /NWCFL PREMIER DVIISION/Attendance:194 Squires Gate were involved in another crazy goal fest just a week after a seven goal loss against Silsden. Manager Andy Clarkson welcomed back Adam Sumner and captain Joe Booth into the side, keeper Josh Woods came into goal for Gate with Ben Fletcher unavailable. Gate made the perfect start to the game taking the lead after the first minute of the game. From the kick off Ric Seear was found down the left wing, he cut inside past the full back and into the box and was bought down for a penalty. Midfielder James Boyd took responsibility and fired the penalty low past the keeper to give Gate the early lead. In what was an end to end first half, the homeside were then awarded a penalty when Dan Gray bought down the winger. The controversy came when the ref who was right behind the foul seemed to wave play on before his lineman on the far side of the pitch was adamant that the foul and penalty should have been awarded. After five minutes of deliberation between the linesman and referee, Dan Gray was shown a straight red card and the penalty was awarded. David Short stepped up to convert the penalty to equalise for the homeside. Gate's lead was restored on the half hour mark when James Boyd scored his second of the game. The midfielder who was moved back to right back arrived late on the edge of the box. He took aim and fired the ball into the bottom corner with a superb goal. The referee had another impact on the game juts before half time when he showed Winsford midfielder Sean Sherwood a second yellow card, reducing Winsford to ten men aswell.
Half time: Winsford United 1-2 Squires Gate The second half saw both sides with early chances but neither could finish their chances. After 15 minutes of back and forth action, it was the homeside that struck. A cross into the back post found Dave Short unmarked for the midfielder to volley past Woods in goal for his second of the game. Manager Andy Clarkson reacted by making a couple of changes to his side with one of the making a near instant impact. Dean Ing was found in on goal but his shot was curled just over the bar. Keeper Josh Woods had to be alert just after Ing shot wide as he denied Winsford. Ing did have the impact Clarkson desired when he gave Gate the lead in the 83rd minute. The midfielder was sent through 2 v 1, he showed good strength to power through and fire low into the corner. Sadly though another substitute had his say when Joe Duckworth equalised for Winsford two minutes later. The young striker was in too much space to volley into the bottom corner. The draw is a positive step for Andy Clarkson's men who come into the last stretch of league games looking to cement a top 10 finish to the season.

MATT BARNES Matt took charge of Barnoldswick Town last year and this season has been good one as the currently sit in 5th and hoping to climb the table in the last few months of the season. Barnoldswick comes off a massive game in mid-week where they put up a great fight in the west riding country cup semi final where they went up v natialol league north side sadly they lost but they could off won. Matt will know gate are no walk over even though won last time earlier this season but gate are on a good run off forum at moment and matt will know they are no walk overs
HISTORY OF THE TOWN . Formed in 1972 and named Barnoldswick United(1972) - so called due to being canny Yorkshiremen- had there been a previous club named Barnoldswick United and they had outstanding debts the new club would have been liable for them. The field started out as a grazing meadow for cattle, after a lot of hard work, it is now the pitch we play on. The club had 2 teams playing in the Craven & District Football League, in the early 1990's we joined the East Lancashire Football League again with 2 teams. In the late 1990's we had 3 teams our 1st & 2nd team teams joined The West Lancashire Football League, our 3rds staying in The East Lancashire League. The 2003/2004 season brought the amalgamation of Barnoldswick United (1972), Barnoldswick Park Rovers and Salterforth Juniors and we changed our name to Barnoldswick Town Football Club. It has always been in the club's constitution to get our ground up to the minimum standards of The North West Counties Football League and the 2009/2010 season saw us accepted into The North West Counties Football League. Alongside our main pitch we have a floodlit training pitch. Our club house can hold up to 100 people and be hired out for functions. Our main sponsor is Silentnight Beds Ltd and the ground is named The Silentnight Stadium. In 2009/2010 our first season in The NWCFL saw us finish runners up in Division 1 and finalists in the prestigious West Riding County Cup beating Guiseley who won promotion to the Conference North along the way. It was an interesting season as we only expected to hold our own and try to make sure we didn't end up at the bottom of the league. Following on from our success in the 2009/2010 season we went from just looking to avoid relegation in the Premier Division 2010/2011 to astound ourselves by finishing a creditable 7th in the league, only suspensions and injuries we feel robbed us of a top three spot. In March 2012 we achieved The FA Grade E, enabling the club to enter The Evo-Stik League when finishing in a promotion position. The 2012/2013 season saw us finish 9th in the Premier Division and reaching a round further in The FA Vase. Our Reserves finishing 4th in their respective league, with players being selected for the first team squad showing we have strength and depth in the club. The 2013/14 season was a little bit traumatic for the club, players leaving or not being available, unrest in the dressing room which led to poor performances on the field. The club parted with manager Paul Fildes replacing him with the managerial team of Stewart Airdrie and James Gill. Off the field proved challenging as finances started to run a little low and it was a worry that the club may have to pull out of the NWCFL. However a rescue package was decided upon and Anne Wolfenden has come in and her business expertise is hopefully putting the club back on track. In June of 2014 we achieved Charter Standard Development Club at both Senior and Junior level, which was an excellent achievement by both Senior & Junior Committees. The season had ended on a knife edge, if results on the last day of the season had gone a different way we would have been relegated! Towards the end of last season 2016/2017 there was a big upheaval at Barnoldswick Town, Firstly Danny Craig took over as Manager from Stewart Airdrie, Stewart in turn taking over the Chairman’s position from Ian James at the end of the season. Then a further shock came towards the end of June when our long standing Secretary Lynn James announced she was standing down at the end of the month. Commercial Manager Alyson Hames took over the Secretary’s job with Ian Holgate moving into the Treasurer’s position. For the 2017/2018 Barnoldswick Town have one team in the Hallmark Security League and one team in The Lancashire Football League Western Division (Galaxy League). The Junior section has 21 teams in The East Lancashire League from U7's -U18's, plus one U12's girls team playing in The West Riding League. They also have a Tiny Town

Gate who got back into the game in the second half now find themselves at the bottom of the league, without a win all season. Manager Danny Penswick finally had new signing Gary Pett available to him after the midfielder suffered a shoulder injury against Ashton Athletic on the opening day of the season. The visitors took the lead in this one after 23 minutes. Too easy down Gates right hand side for Joel Melia who wiped the ball into the box to find Mark Threlfall who powered the ball home. The visitors had a chance early on but a well worked corner routine could only find the post and was cleared. Ben Fletcher would again make a superb save before the away side doubled their lead. He denied Barlicks right winger after he fired low to Fletchers right. Two minutes later the homeside came again, this time Fletcher unable to keep them at bay. Midfielder Harry Thompson found too much space on the edge of the box to precisely stroke the ball past Fletcher into the bottom corner. Gates best chance of the first half came for striker Tarren Moxon. Moxon and Williams were forming a new partnership up front for the first time and looked lively throughout the game. It was Williams who found Moxon in the box for the golden chance but Moxon's side footed effort fell the wrong side of the post. Gary Pett, on his first league start for Gate, could have grabbed a goal back on the strike of half time. He went past two Barnoldswick players before firing the wrong side of the post. HALF TIME: Squires Gate 0-2 Barnoldswick The second half started well for Gate who looked a more energised side after the break. It would be Danny Penswick's men who would strike next. The lively Moxon finding the ball at his feet at the edge of the box made no mistake it smashing the ball into the bottom corner to give Gate hope. And it would be that hope that would spur Gate on for the last 40 minutes with plenty of chances for the homeside. Manager Danny Penswick could have volleyed his side level on the hour mark, but he connected too much with Mike Halls cross, to fire wide. Defender Corey Moorhead then had the chance to score his first goal for the club from a superb Jordan Douthwaite Freekick. His cross is found its way to the big centre half, but his looping header could only find the top of the net. It would be Barnoldswick though who would take their chances in this second half. They extended their lead on 72 minutes. They fired past Fletcher would was unlucky to concede three with another good performance Danny Boyle with the goal.

In a new feature we team up with the Non-league paper editor Matt Badcock who is going a little bit off a column each week to place into our programme so all you non-league fan can found out at happen all across the non-league pyramid Who are the best young players in Non-League? We’ve cast our eye over the best young players in Non-League who could go on to star in the Football League. All are Under-23 and currently playing in Steps 1-4 – here are the most promising players to watch out for in 2019. Marvin Ekpiteta – Leyton Orient-The 6ft 4in central defender signed for Orient at the beginning of 2018, but has broken into the first team this season, with his performances catching the eye of England C boss Paul Fairclough. He has all the attributes to play at a higher level having had spells at Chelmsford, Concord Rangers and East Thurrock in Non-League – he could well be leading the O’s back to the Football League in a few months. Tyler French – AFC Sudbury-Came close to a move to Crystal Palace at the end of 2016 before it broke down at the 11th hour. The AFC Sudbury defender, who also had time with Leicester City and nearby Ipswich Town, is now getting back to the levels that saw professional clubs interested in him. Has played full-back and centre-back, he has the talent to step up to the full-time game. Ed Williams – Kidderminster-After starting his career at Cheltenham, the attacking midfielder joined Gloucester, but has found his feet at Harriers since signing last summer. His form at the start of the season led to an England C call-up and interest from Football League clubs. While Kiddy may have had an inconsistent campaign, Williams has still reached double figures for goals and continues to be their star man. Zak Ansah – Hythe-Twenty goals in the league so far has Ansah leading the way at the top of the Bostik South East goal charts His haul is nearly half of Hythe’s as they look to break into the play-offs. The striker, who has 25 goals in all competitions this season, began his career at Arsenal and has played for England at U16 and U17 level. Manager Sam Denly expects the bids from the Football League will soon arrive having continued his form from last season that saw Ansah score in ten consecutive games at the end of the campaign. Josh Koroma – Leyton Orient- Came up through Orient’s youth teams and made his first team debut in 2016 before becoming the club’s youngest player to score a hat-trick the following year. He’s formed a great strike partnership with Macauley Bonne – another O’s star tipped for big things – this season with the club reportedly turning down a £300,000 offer from Sunderland for the 20-year-old. Josh Kelly – Maidenhead - Caught the eye at the start of the season with some stunning goals that went viral, and has been Maidenhead’s stand-out player in a difficult campaign as they battle against relegation from the National League. The 20-year-old scored 40 goals on loan at Walton Casuals last season, helping the club achieve promotion from Step 4, and is continuing to adjust to life in Non-League’s top flight. Jacob Mensah – Ramsgate-On the radar of a number of clubs including Wolves and Crystal Palace, but Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion recently made an approach for the centre back to spend some time in their Academy. A product of the Bostik South East club’s youth academy, he’s only 18 but made his debut back in 2016. Likened to Chris Smalling, Mensah’s talent isn’t going unnoticed. Serhat Tasdemir – AFC Fylde- Became the club’s youngest-ever league goal scorer in 2017 after graduating from Fylde’s academy, and then signed a two-year contract with the club, aged 17. The winger reportedly attracted interest from Stoke and Leicester last season and has continued to impress this year, scoring four goals in a side gunning for promotion. Ben Garrity – Warrington-Plucked by Wire boss Paul Carden from local Liverpool leagues, the midfielder is aiming to take his chance in Non-League football. Team-mate Rob Evans recently said he believes the youngster can plat at a very high level and Carden is convinced he has a talent on his hands. Charlie Carter – Chesterfield-Scored 12 goals from midfield in his second full season for Woking in the National League before landing a move to Chesterfield for an undisclosed fee. A product of the Cards’ academy, the 22year-old impressed for the Spireites in his first few games for the club, but has since been injured. He’s set to return to action soon and can blossom under new manager John Sheridan. Joe Raynes – Bath City-Midfielder who joined Bath City in the summer and has become an established part of the Romans’ side. Versatile as can also be shifted out of central midfield as cover and has even featured at left wing-back. The 23-year-old started in men’s football with Odd Down and Larkhall Athletic before joining Frome Town where he won last season’s player of the year. Now showing he can make the step up. Kane Smith – Boreham Wood- The right-back spent two seasons at Hitchin Town, turning out over 120 times, scoring 11 goals and earning 30 assists while helping keep 38 clean sheets. Boreham Wood signed him in 2017 and last season he played a key part in the club reaching the National League play-off final. He is nearing the end of his rehabilitation after sustaining a knee injury in their elimination match against AFC Fylde last May. Wes Fonguck – Barnet- Another player recognised by England C this season, the midfielder has shone for Barnet with his all-action displays. He’s been at at the club since 2014, signing a professional contract the following year, and then having loan spells in Non-League at Hendon and Hampton and Richmond. He has made 26 appearances this season, scoring six goals, featuring throughout Barnet’s FA Cup run to the fourth round. Alex Brown – Buxton—Having come through the ranks at Sheffield United, Brown arrived in Non-League last season with Sheffield FC. The 20-year-old left-back impressed so much that he was selected for the full England C senior squad at the end of the season. Had a trial at Harrogate Town in the summer but chose to sign for Buxton for guaranteed football. Expect more full-time clubs to look his way. Tom Walker – Salford City - Came through Bolton Wanderers academy and made his Football League debut in 2015, making 18 appearances and earning 17 more on loan at Bury. The midfielder was released by Bolton and signed for Stockport County before moving to FC United of Manchester where he became an instant hit. He signed for Salford at the start of 2018 and helped them win National League North and was also picked for England C. Daniel Udoh – AFC Telford United-Has bagged 12 goals in National League North to put Telford in play-off contention in what is his first full season in Non-League. The 22-year-old was released by Crewe last summer, who signed him from Ilkeston in 2016, and has rediscovered his scoring touch. Kurt Willoughby – FC United of Manchester- Finished last season as Evo-Stik North’s second leading scorer with 26 goals, earning him a place in the division’s team of the season. The striker was signed by FC United, two leagues above, and has scored 11 goals during this campaign. One to watch as his climbs the Non-League pyramid. Daniel Ajakaiye – Hastings United- Began his career in the West Ham youth ranks and appeared in Bromley’s first team but the rapid striker has really shown his potential at Hastings United. He has 27 goals in all competitions, including 17 in the Bostik South East division to make him one of Step 4’s more ruthless forwards. The club have high hopes for the pacy frontman.
In a new feature we team up with the Non-league paper editor Matt Badcock who is going a little bit off a column each week to place into our programme so all you non-league fan can found out at happen all across the non-league pyramid Canterbury City have certainly had a topsy-turvy few weeks. Just moments after edging past Leicester Nirvana at the start of the month to reach their first ever FA Vase Quarter Final, the club were rocked by the news that the local council had rejected their proposals for a new stadium, which would have ended 12 long years of nomadic life. “One of the papers hit the nail on the head with the headline, joy to despair in the space of just 4 days” said City Chairman Tim Clark. “We are ground sharing at the moment and I think everyone knows that without a new stadium are future will be in jeopardy”. With relations between the club and the city council at breaking point, innovative direct action is now being planned. Taking inspiration from the Valley Party, which was formed by Charlton Athletic fans in 1990 in an attempt to pressure Greenwich Borough Council into allowing the Addicks to return to their home ground, Clark has revealed that several campaigners are preparing to run in May’s local elections. He added, “We have been continually let down by the council and we are acting to save the club. “We are not just campaigning for this single issue and are asking for more sports and recreational facilities to be developed across the whole area. “It is strange to have all of this going on in the midst of what is by far the most successful time in the club’s history. “The campaign is something that we are all really excited about and we are going to try and talk to the local students at the university to try and get them involved and to ensure that it is something which appeals to young people. “We have already found a number of people who are willing to run on our platform and stand up to the current council “It is certainly a tough moment but it has helped to bring everybody together and there is a really special atmosphere around the club at the moment”. From the perspective of the NLP it is deeply disappointing to hear how Canterbury City have seen their future put in jeopardy by the council’s recent decision and we wish them the best of luck with their campaign. Non -League clubs can play a vital role in conjuring up a sense of unity and identity within a community and it is crucial that they receive the support and protection of local institutions.

AROUND THE LEAGUE The last four in both of the League's cup competitions are now known, following the conclusion of the Quarter Final ties at the weekend. On Friday night 1874 Northwich were the first team to book their place in the Macron Cup semi-finals, with a 3-2 home win over Barnoldswick Town. Taylor Kennerley, Jack Irlam and Scott McGowan were on target for the Greens, with James Crorken and Teal Amos replying for Barlick. The trend of home wins continued on Saturday, with all three home teams emerging victorious. Avro are the only team from outside the Premier Division in the last four, and Jake Pollard, Joe Bevan and Louis Potts were their scorers in the 3-1 win over Nelson. 2017 winners City of Liverpool remain in the hunt for a league and cup double following their 2-1 win over Northwich Victoria. John McGrath's opener for the Purps was cancelled out by Vics' Jack Fleming before the break, and Craig Cairns struck the winner just before the hour. The most comfortable winners were Congleton Town, with six different scorers contributing to the 6-0 win over Cammell Laird 1907. The last remaining tie in the First Division Cup Quarter Finals took place, with two goals from Rob McCartney proving to be decisive for Carlisle City in their 2-1 win over Ellesmere Rangers. In the Premier Division, with none of the top clubs in action, the focus was on results that affected the other end of the table. Hanley Town climbed out of the bottom two, with a hat trick from Jake Alcock earning them a 3-2 home win over Runcorn Town. That result meant that West Didsbury & Chorlton slipped back into the relegation zone after losing 2-1 at home to Charnock Richard. The prolific Carl Grimshaw opened the scoring for the visitors, and although a Thomas Bailey penalty pulled West back level, Oliver Oxley struck what proved to be the winner a minute before half time. Winsford United are now level on points with Hanley, just above the drop zone, after sharing a 3-3 draw with Squires Gate. Two goals from David Short for the Blues and two from James Boyd for Gate had the teams level in the last ten minutes, and Dean Ing appeared to have won the game for Gate with a late third goal, only for Joe Duckworth to reply immediately for United. Abbey Hey remain adrift at the bottom of the table but a goal from Brandon ByresWilkes gave them a useful 1-0 win at Whitchurch Alport. Elsewhere, Padiham and Irlam shared a goalless draw, and Colin Quirk scored both goals for Litherland REMYCA in the 2-0 win at Silsden. In the First Division North, Lower Breck consolidated their third place position with a 4-2 home win over Chadderton, with Stephen Milne scoring twice. Prestwich Heys' hopes of closing the gap on the top two wer dashed after being held to a 3-3 draw at second bottom Daisy Hill. Heys had been 3-1 up after 40 minutes thanks to an opening minute goal from Daniel White and two from William Shawcross, but in the end an 82nd minute equaliser from Hensley Mills earned a valuable point for Daisy. They are now just two points behind Holker Old Boys in the relegation battle, after the Stags lost 3-1 at Bacup Borough, with home skipper Adrian Bellamy scoring twice. Atherton LR stay rooted to the bottom of the table after losing 6-0 at home to Ashton Town, Daley Woods bagged a hat trick and Dylan Glass scored twice for Town. There was an exciting finish at JBV Park, where a stoppage time winner from Darren Little pinched a 5 -4 win for Cleator Moor Celtic over Steeton, after Celtic had been 4-3 down with a couple of minutes remaining. Jordan Smith, Craig Billington and Jack Davies scored in Shelley's 3-1 home win over St Helens Town, and Daniel Pickering's first half goal earned AFC Blackpool a 1-0 win at Garstang. Rylands now head the First Division South by seven points after Chris Francis struck 11 minutes from time to seal their 1-0 win over St Martins. FC Oswestry Town put a dent in Wythenshawe Amateurs' hopes of closing the gap at the top with a 1-0 win over the Ammies on Friday night, David Howarth scoring the only goal of the game. Vauxhall Motors are now level on points with the Ammies, Ben Holmes scoring twice in their 2-1 home win over Stone Old Alleynians. Two goals from Ben Steer seemed to have Wythenshawe Town heading for victory at Sandbach United, but Aiden Haughton struck a minute from time to rescue a point for Sandbach in a 2-2 draw. There's no disputing that the eye catching result of the day was Cheadle Town's 13-0 win at Stone Dominoes. The win is the highest away win in league history, and seven different Town players got on the scoresheet, including Rhys Clooney who hit a hat trick. Finn Thompson, Neil Chappell, Joseph O'Brien and Owen Pollitt were on target in Maine Road's 4-0 win over Alsager Town, and Matthew Rigby struck the only goal of the game in Barnton's 1-0 win over New Mills.
