DANNY
PENSWICK I'd like to wish you all a Happy New Year and hope you've had a great Christmas. One of the highlights of this time of year has always been football and after the recent weather, hopefully we can see a good entertaining game playing the right way. Barnoldswick are the visitors today and have had a great opening half of the season. They started off like a house on fire and have kept that momentum going.
In the reverse fixture we suffered a 3-0 defeat to Barlick and I was very impressed by how they played and their team spirit. After the longest two week injury in history we welcome back Mike Hall who will improve us as a squad. The lads have looked sharp in training and are looking forward to putting our last defeat against Maine Road behind us. We've spoken at length about us becoming a difficult side to beat. Too many times this season I've seen us concede 2 and 3 goals in quick succession which makes it so much harder for us to get the results we want. Hopefully we can see a stronger and better defensive performance that will bring
Ben Fletcher (Sponsored by S.E.I. [Maintenance] LTD) Superb young shot stopper that had a tremendous season last year. He kept numerous clean sheets and played every single minute of every single game. 2015/16 will be his 3rd season with the club where he’ll be looking to continue his fine form. Nathan Trout (Available for sponsorship) Nathan moved to the Fylde coast from Liverpool. A ball winning centre half that has a big presence on the pitch, he’ll be hoping to force his way into the team and make his position his own. Alex Colquhoun (Available for sponsorship) After a short spell at the club last season, Alex has returned to the club hungry and determined to play on a regular basis. He showed signs of quality last season and will be looking to cement his place in the 2015/16 season. Brett Ferguson (Sponsored by Service Solutions Direct Ltd) One of the main characters within the changing room, “Channy” as he is called, always has stories to tell, consistently produced good displays during last season and got on the score sheet on numerous occasions. A very adaptable player that has made a huge impression on all within the club. Winner of Clubman of the Year 2014/15.
Andy Richards (Available for sponsorship) A club stalwart! ‘Rico’ as he is known, has been with the club for many seasons and has become a linchpin of the side. His performances and changing room experience has played a vital role in recent success. A player with many superstitions that is well liked at the club. Josh Westwood (Sponsored by Mark Ashmore) Josh was a rock at the heart of defence during last season. He produced some fine individual displays and chipped in with a few headed goals. A quiet individual but very popular player that lets his feet, or head do the talking. Josh is also adaptable to play up front. Mike Hall (Available for sponsorship) Mike was only with Gate briefly last season but his knowledge and experience of the game was beneficial to all that played alongside him. He was influential in his performances and will be looking to have the same impact throughout the 2015/16 season. Conah Bishop (Available for sponsorship) Conah is one of the youngest players in the squad and plays on the right side of midfield. He has the pace to run at the opposition and can also score goals. He is a great addition to the team. Joe Noblet (Available for sponsorship) Joe had a spell with Gate a few seasons ago, and returned under the new management of Danny Penswick. He is an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal and will be sure to add goals to the squad.
Alex McKendrick (Available for sponsorship) Alex has been at the club for a number of seasons, first arriving under the stewardship of ex manager Russ McKenna. His work rate and willingness to do the unfashionable jobs in a game have been hugely important to the team. Injury put a halt to his 2014/15 season but he’ll be looking to come back a stronger player this season.
Billy McKenna (Available for sponsorship) The flying winger missed a large part of last season due to injury but is looking to make the right midfield position his own. A popular player within the changing room that can have a big influence on games when in the mood.
Antony Stayte (Available for sponsorship) Stayte is a great addition to the squad, who brings experience from his time at AFC Fylde and from teams in a higher tier. He knows how to organise and motivate his team mates and is very good at holding the ball up.
Ashley Rowley (Sponsored by TravelCare World) Ash joined Gate towards the end of last season, and impressed in the time he played. He scored a crucial equaliser at home to Congleton Town and will be looking to have an impact this season.
Danny Penswick (Sponsored by Bill White) Danny is the manager and captain of the club. He first joined midway through the 2013/14 season and soon established himself as a leader and highly influential player. His game understanding and levels of performance have seen him become a focal point of the team.
Mark Buchan (Available for sponsorship) Mark models himself on Ally McCoist. A fiery Scot that knows where the goal is. His workmanlike performances often go unnoticed, but he scored some valuable goals during last season. An influential player both on and off the pitch and will be a key player during this season.
Aaron Clarke (Available for sponsorship) Aaron was part of the Kirkham and Wesham squad which was victorious at Wembley in 2008. Unfortunately for Aaron, he picked up an injury the week before the final so didn’t take part in the game. A quick striker who possesses skill and eye for a pass and can also play in behind the striker in attacking midfield. Aaron will be looking to cement a spot up top and to fire Gate up the table.
Ryan Tanser (Available for sponsorship) Ryan joined the club in October and came off the bench in the 5-2 defeat away at Atherton Collieries. He scored his first goal for the club on his first full debut in our 5-1 win over Maine Road in the MEN United cup. He will bring goals to the team for sure.

(COLQUHON 30) TANSER 10 10 BRESLIN (MOXON54) KAY 11 11 ROE Squires Gate returned to action on Saturday when they hosted Maine Road. Gate haven’t played a game in three weeks and were eager to get going from the start. Before the game manager Danny Penswick explained his frustrations at the lack of games but reassured the fans that Gate’s players were “looking to kick on and build a good run of results”. Gate made three changes to the side, which took the league leaders Colne to extra time in their last match. Josh Kay returned from AFC Fylde and came straight into the starting 11 for the unavailable Ash Rowley and Ryan Tanser was once again available so he came in to replace Alex Colquhoun who dropped to the bench. New signing Tarran Moxon who joined the club this week from Lytham Town started on the bench.
In what was a mistake by Gate keeper Fletcher who seemed to have dealt with the tame shot from Hill but as he caught the ball seemed to turn his body and take the ball across the line. Gate tried to find an instant reply after going behind but long shots from both Richards and Kay didn’t trouble to Maine Road keeperfirst half the better and was Maine Road kept up their early pressure and made it two after 22 minutes. Roe won the tackle in midfield and was quick to play the ball forward to find the run of Morgan. He cut the ball back to the waiting Wilson on the penalty spot who had time to control the ball and fire past Fletcher.
Mark Buchan had a chance to get one back for Gate on 26 minutes but his free kick was easily saved. Joe Noblet was the next to try his luck but his shot from outside the box was easily saved. Squires Gate 3-2 Silsden Saturday 14th September 2013 With just 60 seconds on the clock, and Squires Gate resumed where they left off last Saturday at Maltby Main, when Jack Sowerby's mazy run, ended with a shot from 25 yards just flying inches over the bar, and the confidence gained last week was evident as they tore into the visitors. The home fans didn't have to wait long before it produced results, and on 10 mins. it was again Jack Sowerby on the spot to side foot a pass from Ben Fishwick, giving keeper Edward Hall no chance, and put the home side into a deserved lead. Then three mins later he doubled his and Gate's goal tally when he ran through the defence firing a shot past the keeper on 13 mins. The running and Pics by Albert Cooper passing of a Gate side with a handful of team changes from when they played their last home game, going down to Wigan Robin Park, was a revelation as to the pace and skill of this young side, restricting the visitors to very few opportunities. While their keeper was kept busy, and made a great save from Ben Fishwick back after injury, when Ben hit a 'pile driver' from a corner kick, and Edward Hall brought off a great save turning the ball round the post. But as often happens, while Gate were going forward the visitors got the chance to pull a goal back when Michael Hall's pass found Nathan Egan, who gave Ben Fletcher no chance as he drove the shot past him into the bottom corner, on the stroke of half time, sending them into the dressing room feeling they were in with a chance. When the game resumed it was Silsden who were on the acendecy, and a fine save by Ben Fletcher, and the visitors efforts were rewarded when from the resulting corner, Stephan Throup, ran through to score smashing the ball into the net on the 62 min. This lifted the game with the pace taking it's toll on some of the players, and both teams brought on fresh legs to try to snatch the all important winner, and it was Gate who retook the lead, on 67 mins.with what turned out to be the match winner.. It was a goalmouth scramble with several shots being blocked on the line, but the home side was unable to clear, and a shot from Ben Jakes, was adjudged to have crossed the line by the Referee's assistant, who was in the best position to judge. Silsden fought on till the end, and Ben Fletcher came to the rescue in the closing mins, when he tipped wide a shot from, Anthony Young, This was Gate's second victory, and lifts them two place up the table.
Manager Dave McCann, said after the game, "We made hard work , getting a much needed win, in the end we deserved it pleasing that headaches with the squad. Charlie Russell, fitted in well and was effective. We are pleased for Jack Sowerby getting on scoring sheet. He added, Lydon Hodgkiss made his debut well and Adam did well at the back " By Danny Braid

Formed in 1972 and named Barnoldswick United (1972), - so called due to being canny Yorkshiremen - had there had been a previous club named Barnoldswick United and they had outstanding debts the new club would have been liable for them. The field started out as a grazing meadow for cattle, after a lot of hard work, it is now the pitch we play on. The club had 2 teams playing in the Craven & District Football League in the early 1990's we joined the East Lancashire Football League again with 2 teams. The 2003/2004 season brought the amalgamation of Barnoldswick United (1972), Barnoldswick Park Rovers and Salterforth Juniors and we changed our name to Barnoldswick Town Football Club. We then ran 3 senior teams. In the late 1990's our 1st and 2nd teams joined The West Lancashire Football League, our 3rds staying in The East Lancashire Football League. For the 2013/2014 season they had 12 junior teams, 3 entering the East Lancashire Alliance and the remaining 9 in the North Valley League. In 2009/2010 our first season in The NWCFL saw us finish Runners up in Division 1 and finalists in the prestigious West Riding County Cup beating Guiseley who won promotion to the Conference North along the way. It was an interesting season as we only expected to hold our own and try to make sure we didnt end up at the bottom of the league. Following on from our success in the 2009/10 season we went from just looking to avoid relegation in the Premier Division 2010/11 to astound ourselves by finishing a creditable 7th in the league, only suspensions and injuries we feel robbed us of a top three spot. The 2012/2013 season saw us finish 9th in the Premier Division and reaching a round further in The FA Vase. Our Reserves finishing 4th in their respective league, with players being selected for the first team squad showing we have strength and depth in the club.

After finishing near the bottom of the league last season, you currently sit 8th. What do you think has been the turning point to the teams form? A settled team. For example over a 7 week period just before Christmas last season we had played 6 different goalkeepers. The rest of the team for most of the season saw 4 or 5 changes on a weekly basis. This cannot be good for the team morale and so it proved as we only escaped relegation with a last minute goal scored by our neighbours Silsden. Also we have two players in Joseph Gaughan and Mark Threlfall who have both been scoring goals for us. Matthew Simpson, a recent signing, has come in from a local team and scored 4 goals in 6 games, which has been a bonus for us. Mark Threlfall was our top scorer on 6 goals last season which in itself shows up why we were at the bottom of the league for the majority of the season. What do you think has been your best result of 2015, and so far this season? Our best result I think was the one a few weeks ago when we won 6-3 at AFC Liverpool. We were behind three times but fought back to win by our biggest margin for quite a while. Which players have caused the most threat to opposition. Any players that Gate supporters should watch out for?
Joseph Gaughan, Mark Threlfall, Matthew Simpson. All three of them are goal-scorers. What has been your most memorable moment/game within your time at the club? I suppose one of the most memorable moments was getting promotion in our first season to the Premier Division. We finished runners up to Stone Dominoes by a single point and I can always remember the players coming off the field into the dressing room all smiles after they finally won promotion at home. If you could sign any 3 PL players for free, who would they be and why? From the NWCFL I would sign Chris Thompson from Colne, we initially signed him from Silsden and things didn’t go right in the first few games when he played for us when he looked a little shaky, so he was released and Colne signed him. He has now turned into one of the best keepers in the league. Paul Shanley from Runcorn Town, he is always near the top of the league goal scorers and seems to have taken a shine to scoring against us, so by signing him we would stop that. Finally Danny Boyle from Colne, another ex Barnoldswick Town player who didn't quite he
was capable of with us but has turned-on the magic finishing as the league top goal scorer last season and had bagged 18 so far this season. I always think to do well you need top goalkeeper but also a proven goal scorer because you cant win without scoring goals . Which teams have surprised you so far this season? Atherton Collieries, we managed a draw 1-1 with last minute penalty when we played them away but they were a really good team and we escaped with a fortunate draw. Which teams have surprised you so far this season? Atherton Collieries, we managed a draw 1-1 with last minute penalty when we played them away but they were a really good team and we escaped with a fortunate draw. If you were to have 5 a side with 2 Barnoldswick Town and 3 Premier League Legends who would you pick? Keeper Chris Thompson from, Joseph Gaughan form Barnoldswick Town, Shaun Airey form Barnoldswick Town, Paul Shanley from Runcorn Town and Ryan Cox from AFC Liverpool. What are your expectations for the remainder of the season? Where are you hoping to finish? After the trauma of last season it would be a good turn around in fortune from season to finish in the top 10 . Have you ever been to Wembley on any occasion? What eould be your dream Scenario there? I took my 11 year old son to the 1983 Manchester United vs Liverpool League (Milk as it was then) Cup Final. Liverpool won 2-1 after extra time. I remember having to make a dash for the of the goals before the start . The dream scenario I suppose would be Barnoldswick Town in the FA Vase Final! What is your prediction for today game ? Always a well fought match this one, if we start the match as well we have finishing them I think we could just shade it by the od gaol. We did win 3-0 at home earlier in the season but it was lot closer then the score –line indicates.
Barnoldswick Town 4-0 Squires Gate
It was a misty night, which came as a reminder that Bonfire Night is only 21 nights away, and it was a night that Squires Gate, put a fireworks display, to gain revenge for the 4-0 defeat suffered at a month ago away. Gate looked more determined than they did four days ago loosing at Winsford United. It was a game full of enthusiasm, energy, a team effort with a pleasing work rate through out. It was no surprise when Jack Sowerby leading the home attack, out paced the visiting defence, and beat the keeper for the first goal, on 19 mins.. For most of the first half it was an end to end affair, with the home side looking to have the edge, and when Gate won consecutive corners, Daniel Penswick, got on the end of the third corner from Ben Fishwick, and and hammered the ball into the roof of the net a min. before half time. The second half was only a min. underway when Jack Sowerby got his head to a cross for his second goal, on 46 mins. beating the keeper scoring into the top left corner. The visitors tried to counter, but the home defence were solid, and as the visitors pushed forward, Gate were able to find gaps in their defence. But surprisingly it took till the 89th min. when Jack Sowerby finished a five passing move to give the keeper no chance as he scored his hat trick goal shooting from 30 yards. Giving Gate revenge with a 4 nil victory
Squires Gate 4-0 Barnoldswick Town Tuesday 15 October 2014
Squires Gate were on the road again last night Tuesday, when they visited Barnoldswick Town. But they were not expecting the welcome they received, from the team that succumbed to neighbours, AFC Blackpool. The home side were quick onto the attack, and Ben Fletcher was the busiest man on the field, having to make saves that were near double figures in the first 30 mins. Despite the efforts from McKenna, in midfield, and Bamba and Ralph up front, it was Chris Ridehalgh who was first on the board with a goal in the 14th min. and only the hands of Ben Fletcher held Town at bay until Sam Howell made it two on 39 mins. Then Danny Boyle made it three on 43 mins , Sending the teams in for the interval 3-0 Shots from Russ McKenna, which was deflected, and Jack Hindle which the keeper saved. Lee Botham went up for a corner kick and won the ball in the air, but the keeper saved again. The second half was better for the visitors and Gate picked up their game, and brought on Subs Chris Churchman, and Alex Landless, but it was Barnoldswick Town’ s night, and Chris Ridehalgh, scored his second on 67 mins to settle the game at 4-0. Barlicks team towered in
Squires Gate 0-0 Barnoldswick Town Tuesday 09 September 2014 Squires Gate entertained Barnoldswick town on Tuesday night looking to get back to winning ways after Saturdays defeat in the cup to AFC Liverpool. Gate made 5 changes to the team that lost on Saturday welcoming back Danny Penswick, Billy McKenna, Alex Murphy and handing a debut to Sean Holmes. Squires Gate entertained Barnoldswick Town on Tuesday night looking to get back to winning ways after Saturdays defeat in the cup to AFC Liverpool. Gate made 5 changes to the team that lost on Saturday welcoming back looked very confident. Barnoldswick again looked to attack the home side and only a smart save from keeper Ben fletcher saved gate from again going behind. But the half ended how it begun both Murphy and McKenna having shots but both failing to hit the target. Gate looking to improve on a first half dominated by the away side, hit the crossbar from an Alex Murphy freekick with the keeper in no mans land. But in the space of a minute Barnoldswick launched a counter attack and hit Gates cross bar down the other end. Gate looked more organised in the second half and seemed to have the away sides defence rattled. Chances from Riley and ferguson but neither could capitalise and put the home side in front. It was late on that the game really came alive a cross in from sub Forshaw but nobody gambled I get on the end of it. It was then Hathersall who jinked through the Barnoldswick defence put chose to carry on instead of taking a shot and the keeper saved well at his feet.
Barnoldswick Town 1-3 Squires Gate Tuesday 04 November 2014 Squires Gate travelled to Barnoldswick on Tuesday night looking to continue their good form from the last couple of games. Gate made two changes from Saturday with Josh Westwood coming back in for Colquhoun and Chris Anderson coming in for Jake Forshaw. Gate started much the better side and could have been ahead early on, but the Barnoldswick goal keeper got down well at the feet of Harry Dunn to stop the shot. Gate had a shout for a penalty soon on, Jack Sowerby sent through the middle and was brought down but the referee waved away the protests. Great work from Harry Dunn through the middle who's pass created a chance for Brett Ferguson but his shot was fired over. To say it was all Gate in the first half was an understatement and they would have been very unlucky not to go in, in the lead at half time. The start to the second half couldn't have started any different to the first. It was Barnoldswick who took the lead, Gate lost the ball from the throw in and Barnoldswick pounced to open the scoring. Gate replied soon after, Harry Dunn reacting quickest after the keeper spilled the ball from a Sowerby free kick. Brett Ferguson had the chance to double Gates lead but his shot flew over the bar. Gates next goal came from a mix up in the defence and Jack Sowerby slid through to score a brilliant goal. Gate made the game comfortable soon after, Josh Westwood volleying in straight from the corner. Gate controlled the game and slowed it down for the end of the

PUBS
SQUIRES GATE 2 The last time the two sides met was back in February last year, where Squires Gate were 3-1 victors. The home side took the lead within the first 3 minutes of the game after some poor defending from Gate. However, it only took 7 minutes for the away side to equalise as Mark Buchan was in the box to tap in from an Anderson cross. The second half saw Gate dominate possession and were rewarded when Buchan headed in with 20 minutes to go and Squires Gate looked like they would hold on comfortably.
