Gate team came out in the second half. It was the visitors who made the better start to the game and Ben Fletcher had to be alert on 62 minutes when he made a in fact the first 45 minutes. superb save, full stretch, to deny Irlam a second goal. A lot of Irlam’s chances came from free kicks, though they couldn’t capitalise from the set pieces until late into the first half.
Subs Radim Cech and Tyler Atack linked up on 67 minutes but the latter couldn’t find Buchan with his flick backwards from Cech’s cross.
The visitors took the lead just a minute before half time. Gate grabbed a goal back with a superb finish from Gary Much like Gates goal on Friday against Widnes, Connor Martin Pett on 72 minutes. The midfielder lined up a freekick from was unmarked at the back post to head in a floated cross. just outside the box which he struck sweetly past the keeper to level the game for Gate.

SQUIRES GATE
Saturday 18th November 2017 // Silentnight Stadium // Attendance: 102 Gate were without influential midfielder Gary Pett who was unavailable and handed a first start to Ryan Charnley and Tyler Atack. The homeside took the lead after just three minutes, catching Gate off guard. A looped ball into the box found the prolific Mark Threllfall unmarked, he struck the ball past Ben Fletcher to give the homeside the lead. Gate looked to get themselves on the scoresheet early on but struggled with the final ball. First Tarren Moxon got into a good position but his pull back to the front post couldn’t find Tyler Atack. Then Jack Williams chipped a lovely ball into Atack again but his weak shot was collected by the keeper. Barnoldswick would grab their second goal after just ten minutes. Joel Melia allowed too much space on the left to pick out Zac Dale who slotted the ball past Fletcher. The homeside could have extended their lead in the 17th minute through some lapse defending again from Gate. The Barnoldswick right Liam Blades was allowed too much room to come forward and find the feet of Mark Threllfall, but he shot wide. Gates last chance of the first half came from Lewis Masters. The defender could have scored his first for the club when the ball fell to him from a corner, but he stabbed it straight at the keeper.
HALF TIME: Barnoldswick Town 2-0 Squires Gate
The first chance of the second half fell to Gate after four minutes. A short corner was taken to Ryan Charnley, but the wingers cross was collected by the keeper. Like several games this season, Gate had Ben Fletcher to thank on 3 minutes when he pulled off a crucial save. Nice football from the homeside but they couldn't beat Gate's number one from inside the six yard box. The next goal in this game was the most important and it could have come for Gate on 55 minutes. A freekick to Gate was flicked onto Tarren Moxon at the back post, but his shot flew over the bar. It would be the homeside who would strike next for that all important goal. Gate failed to clear the ball several times before Andrew Hill fired in inside the box. As quick as the first goal came, the homeside would get a second. Gate again failing to clear the ball allowing Matthew Cavanagh to fire in. The final goal for the homeside came on 76 minutes with the man who had opened the scoring, Mark Threlfall, rounding off the scoring. He was left unmarked on the penalty spot and allowed to turn and shoot past Ben Fletcher for the homesides fifth goal.

THE BOSS
DAVE SUTTON Dave was appoint as Burscough Manager back in July 2016 when he joined them from Prescot Cables. He first season wasn't the great as he got relegation from the Evo-stick but he would want this season to be different. Dave wouldn't want his team to do the same as fellow club New Mills where the had 2 relegation in two season but he know this league is the hardest to get off with just that one promotion place and knows that they could ne more then 3 being relegation going into this new step that the FA brought in.
BREIF HISTORY Following the Second World War the present Burscough club was founded in 1946, starting life in the Liverpool County Combination. In only their second season, 1946/47, they achieved a unique treble, winning the Lancashire Junior Cup, George Mahon Cup and the Liverpool Challenge Cup. Two years later they again claimed the Junior Cup and also won the County Combination title for the first time. In 1952 they won the Liverpool Challenge Cup for a second time. In 1953/54 Burscough joined the Lancashire Combination winning the Second Division Championship in their first season and scoring 155 goals in the process. 1955/56 saw arguably the club’s greatest ever achievement as they won the First Division Championship ahead of non-league giants Wigan Athletic. In 1959 they reached the First Round Proper of the F.A. Cup for the first time; going down 3-1 to Crewe Alexandra in front of A 4,200 gate at Victoria Park. Another trophy winning spell commenced in 1966/67 season under manager Bobby Langton as the club completed a hat trick of Junior Cup successes against South Liverpool at Wigan. The Lancashire Combination First Division title was regained in 1969/70 season. In 1970/71 Burscough joined the Cheshire County League, finishing runners-up to Rossendale United. The following season they won the Liverpool Non-League Senior Cup and in 1974/75 the Cheshire League Cup was lifted. The Linnets also reached the F.A. Cup First Round Proper on three other occasions. In 1977, a 1 -0 defeat at Blyth Spartans, in 1979, a 3-0 defeat at Sheffield United in front of 14,000 spectators and in 1980, a 2-1 defeat against Altrincham. In 1982 the Club became founder members of the North West Counties Football League and had the distinction of becoming the Leagues first ever Champions under Bryan Griffiths. In 1989/90 season Burscough suffered their first ever relegation, however, the appointment of Russ Perkins as manager in 1991 was to bring about a change in the club’s fortunes as Burscough reached the League Cup Final and gained promotion back to Division One. In 1992/93 Burscough lost 2-1 to Conference bound Southport in the Liverpool Senior Cup Final at Goodison Park before 2,000 spectators. Success was achieved by winning the League Challenge Cup with a 2-1 victory over Nantwich Town. In May 1995, Burscough appointed John Davison as Manager. In his first season Burscough went on to win the League Challenge Cup for the second time, beating League Champions Flixton 1-0 at Gigg Lane, Bury. In 1996/97 Frank Parr completed 50 years with the Club and was presented with The Football Association 50 Year Long Service Award. The following season after finishing runners-up in the North West Counties League the club made history by being promoted to the Unibond League. They also won the League Floodlit Trophy and reached the final of the Liverpool Senior Cup against Liverpool. In 2000/01 season the Linnets won the Liverpool Senior Cup for the first ever time after beating Conference side Southport. Following the resignation of John Davison the club appointed Shaun Teale as player/manager in May 2002 and the ex-Aston Villa defender went on to sensationally lead the club to its greatest ever achievement as Burscough became the smallest club to ever win the FA Trophy following a tremendous 2-1 victory over Tamworth at Villa Park on Sunday 18th May 2003 in front of a crowd of 14,296 spectators and televised live on Sky. There were incredible scenes as almost 2,000 fans welcomed the team home to Victoria Park that evening but celebrations were dampened less than six weeks later as the club found it necessary to relinquish Teale of his managerial duties. Former Liverpool, Galatasary and West Ham United midfielder Mike Marsh was appointed manager but after a poor start to the season Marsh resigned and ex-Southport defender Derek Goulding took over in October 2003. An incredible end to 2003/04 season saw Burscough finish with a remarkable run of victories that saw them claw their way out of the bottom three into the play-offs for Conference North. Despite playing all their games away from home the Linnets went on to reach the play-off final where they only went down at Bradford Park Avenue following extra-time. During the summer Frank Parr stepped down after 30 years as chairman with local businessman Chris Lloyd taking over at the helm. Season 2005/06 was another historic one for Burscough F.C. as they went on to reach the Second Round proper of the F.A. Cup for the first time in their history. In reaching that milestone they defeated League One side Gillingham 3-2 on a never to be forgotten day at Victoria Park before going out to Burton Albion. Derek Goulding`s tenure as manager ended in June 2006 when he was replaced by former Southport manager, Liam Watson. The 2006/07 season was Burscough F.C`s Diamond Jubilee and one of the ways the club marked the event was by playing in a predominantly white kit with a spe-

BURSCOUGH GILCHRIST 2, WHITE 78
Saturday 18th November 2017/ Ground/ Attendance: 112 The away team started the brighter of the two teams and took the lead inside the first couple of minutes through Adam Gilchrist, after Rob Cooke had failed to deal with his effort. Going behind sparked the home side into life and they were level after 20 minutes as top scorer Chris Smith got on the end of a cross from Chris Bandell, that was the last of the action as Smith picked up a reoccurrence of the injury that had kept out of the West Didsbury game. The first half continued with the away team creating a number of half chances and had a couple of appeals for a penalty turned down. Burscough were reduced to 10 men before the break as Terry Cummings was sent off for another dive.
Half Time: Barnton 1-1 Burscough The second half saw the Villagers press and create a few chances as they looked to press home their numerical advantage, but the away team had a continual threat on the break and the Barnton defence were giving a warning when Chad White hit the post after beating the offside trap. 01 ROBERT COOKE

LAST TIME IN THE CUP GATE EXIT THE MARCON CUP AT THE FIRST TIME OF ASKING WITH A CLOSE GAME AGAINST NEW MILLS SQUIRES GATE
NEW MILLS 1 0
Saturday 1st October 2016 // Brian Addison Stadium // Attendance: 51
Gate started the game by giving away a foul from kick off. Luckily for Gate the striker fired wide when the ball fell to his feet, a warning sign for Gate. Ben Seear jinked his way down the left hand side and into the box but took a touch too many as Gate got into the game after five minutes. He then turned provider on nine minutes. A great cross in by Seear found his brother, but he could only head into the keepers knees, who saved. As the first half went on, neither side really looked to commit too many men forward a result of that meant the game became flat. Gate had a couple of half chances through a Ben Seear header that fell wide. Danny Penswick then did well to kind Seear out on the wing but nobody could meet his cross in. New Mills made the better start to the second half and took the lead after 50 minutes. A lovely Freekick from the edge of the box beat Fletcher to his right hand side. New Mills could have been 2-0 up a minute later but luckily their shot hit the post. Then 15 minutes later they could have score again. The New Mills attacker doing well to get past two defenders but his cut back was fired straight at the keeper, who saved well. As the second half came to a close Gate introduced Ryan Riley and Mark Buchan but neither strikers could really have the desired effect. Buchan did fire in a superb cross for Ric Seear but the New Mills defender did well to clear the ball first.
JUNIOR ROUND UP
19th November
Games falling foul of the weather for Gates junior sides
With Mark Stanley's Under 14's side not in league action until after Christmas now, it was down to our Under 14's side's to impress. Sadly Emily Tobin's Titan's side's game was called off for the second successive week due to the weather, her game with FC Rangers Blues will have to be played another time. We start with the clubs biggest win of the weekend in Thornton where Nick Grindley's unbeaten Under 14's side maintained there run with a convincing 7-0 win. Another hatrick from the ever impressive Dan Fyrer coupled with another two for strike partner Imaan Hussain put the side well in control with goals from midfielder Matt Kelsey and free scoring defender Kobe Gregory rounding off the win. Thornton Cleveleys Whites Under 14's 0-7 Squires Gate Under 14's Squires Gate Reds faced a tough tie against Foxhall Under 14's who came into the game second just behind our Under 14's. Goals from Cian Turley, Karl Pacheco and one from Piotr Wasik made for a competitive game. Foxhall though couldn't be stopped scoring six goals to win the game and keep up the pressure on top of the league Squires Gate Under 14's. Josh Strachen's side sit 6th but have plenty of games on teams around them. Foxhall Under 14's 6-3 Squires Gate Reds Under 14's Next Up: Squires Gate Reds Under 14's v South Shore Youth Under 14's Squires Gate Under 14's v Squires Gate Titans Under 14's

BOOTLE 02.12.17 WHO’S IN CHARGE? Daniel Craig
GROUND? TDP Solicitors Stadium Postcode:L30 1NY
LAST TIME OUT? BOOTLE 0 SQUIRES GATE 2 Midfielder Mike Hall started in goal for Gate and played possibly his best game for the club. He had to be alert after 2 minutes to tip over a deep corner from the homeside after a bright start by Gate. Striker Brett Dawson started the game up top on his own in a demanding role and could and probably should have opened the scoring for Gate on 6 minutes. He was sent through one on one but saw his effort denied by the legs of keeper Jones. Three minutes later though Dawson would make up for his miss. He sent his full back the wrong way before passing across goal to the back post. Running in was midfielder Ben Seear, playing in an unfamiliar centre midfield role, to fire past Jones. Gate then had chances through Dawson again who's thunderous strike from distance was tipped over and Danny Penswick who's long range effort went wide of the post. Bootle started to mount pressure of their own looking for an equaliser and went close on 20 minutes. First Gate had to defend three corners in a row with the final corner poked wide at the front post. Then Mike Hall pulled off a superb save to tip over a shot after some nice play from Bootle. Gate could have made it 2-0 on 34 minutes but had an effort cleared off the line. Joe Noblet doing well to beat his man before squaring to the back post to find Richards but his scuffed shot in was cleared off the line. Gate would hold onto their lead until half time. The second half would see Gate double their lead after some good defending from Bootle pressure. It was Defender Seydou Bamba in the right place at the right time to fire in after the corner fell to him in the middle of the goal. Gate would then go on to defend heroically after Bootle went more direct in the second half. Gate had two great chances in the last 10 minutes. First Brett Dawson was wrongly flagged offside from a defenders header with a clear path through on goal. Then Jake Higham beat the offside trap to square to Dawson but his shot was well saved by the keeper. Gate held on to record their first win of the month and become the first team to beat Bootle at home this season. It's also the first team Gate have done the league double over.

THIS WEEK IN FOOTBALL HISTORY We take a look back at the history of football as it happens week by week.
ALLEUROPEAN HAIL THE GINGER PRINCE THE CUP KICKS OFF
1955 1974
On 16 November 1974, former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes was born in Salford. He went on to make over 700 appearances for the club. He joined United as a youth player in 1991, then joined the first team for the 1993-94 season, but did not appear in a competitive match until the following season. By September 1995, he had become a regular fixture in the starting XI, helping them to a league and FA Cup Double. More honors followed, including a staggering nine additional league titles, two more FA Cups, and two Champions League trophies. Along the way, he built a reputation as one of the best midfielders of his generation, earning plaudits from opposing players and coaches such as Barcelona midfielder Xavi, who has called Scholes the best midfielder he's seen in the past 20 years. Scholes earned his first cap for England in 1997 and made a total of 66 appearances before his international retirement in 2004. He retired from United in May 2011 and took up a coaching role with the club, but was later convinced to change his mind at the urging of manager Alex Ferguson and returned to the pitch in January 2012. He retired for good in 2013 with a career total of 718 appearances
A BULGARIAN BRACE BEATS LES BLEUS
1933
On 17 November 1993, a very late goal helped Bulgaria upset France in a World Cup qualifier in Paris to earn their place in the tournament and eliminate the hosts. It was the last match of their qualification group. Sweden had already secured the top spot, leaving only one more ticket to the World Cup up for grabs. France started the day in second, one point ahead of third-place Bulgaria, and needed only a draw to advance. Even though Bulgaria won the first meeting in Sofia, 2-0, Les Bleus looked like the more likely team to get the needed result, especially once they took a 1-0 lead with a 31st-minute goal from Eric Cantona. The visitors quickly answered with a strike from Emil Kostadinov (pictured) six minutes later, but the match remained level at 1-1 until deep in the second half. Then, in the last few seconds of the 90th minute, Kostadinov struck again, blasting the ball into the roof of the net from close range. The final score of 1-2 switched the two teams in the table, putting Bulgaria in the World Cup and leaving France out. The Bulgarians went on to make their best-ever World
AN APOLOGY IS BETTER THAN NOTHING (BUT NOT BY MUCH) On 18 November 2011, Sepp Blatter apologized for remarks he made earlier in the week about racism in football. It was the latest in a series of events over the course of a difficult year for the FIFA president.
No stranger to controversy, Blatter had previously provoked strong reactions for several statements, including his opinion that women's football would be more popular if the players wore tight shorts and his description of Cristiano Ronaldo's contract situation as a form of slavery. During his 2010 campaign for re-election to his FIFA post, he fell under intense scrutiny for allegations of corruption throughout the organization. Then, in mid-November 2011, he addressed the problem of racism in football by suggesting that the players resolve any on-field incidents with a post-match handshake. The comment immediately drew harsh criticism from a wide variety of sources, most notably from Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, who called the comment "so condescending it's almost laughable." Many people called for Blatter's resignation. The pressure led to his eventual apology. He did not deliver it in person, however, but instead submitted a written statement that was read by FIFA official Tokyo Sexwale. The statement read: "When you have done something which was not totally correct, I can only say I am sorry for all those people affected by my declarations. It hurts and I am still hurting because I couldn't envisage such a reaction." Despite continued calls

NWCFL NEWSLETTER In the Premier Division, leaders Runcorn Town could only watch on as their rivals took advantage of their inactivity; in the First Division, there were shocks aplenty as the top four were all beaten. 2nd placed Hanley Town are now just three points off the summit after they saw off Abbey Hey by four goals to nil at Potteries Park. Daniel Cope, the division’s top scorer, added two more to his tally for the season, a feat matched by Thomas Ashton as Town put an end to their visitors’ run of four straight away wins. Luke Gibson’s side remained 16th. Runcorn Linnets in 3rd are only four points adrift of their neighbours, albeit having played a game more, after they recorded a 4-2 victory at home to Northwich Victoria. Mark Houghton scored twice before Mitchell Bryant and Paul Shanley put Linnets four to the good. Brian Matthews and Matthew Clarke hit back for Vics, but a five match winning streak in the league came to an end as they slipped to 12th. Charnock Richard remain in the mix after a fine 3-0 triumph at Widnes. Carl Grimshaw gave the away team the lead, then Nathan Fairhurst from the penalty spot and Jonathan Hession made the points safe. The hosts dropped to 7th. Bootle stayed 5th after a comfortable 4-0 win at Maine Road, Kieran Loughlin, Andrew Gillespie, Stephen Milne and Connor Ellis-Pratt sentencing the home side to their ninth successive defeat as they moved down to 21st. Padiham were victorious by the same scoreline at Irlam as they climbed to 6th. Daniel Boyle, Ben Hoskin and Dominic Craig had the Storks in control at the break, and Spencer Jordan added another in the second half as the hosts fell a place to 15th. City of Liverpool closed the gap on opponents Winsford United as Elliott Nevitt, John McGrath and Joseph Camozzi propelled them to a 3-1 victory, with Justin Pickering grabbing a late consolation for Winsford. The teams are now 9th and 8th respectively. A 4-2 win for Ashton Athletic against Congleton Town moved the Yellows up to 10th place, despite having played just 12 league matches as a consequence of their cup runs. Christopher Webster, Marcus Cusani and Dale Korie-Butler put the hosts in control, and although the Bears threatened a comeback after quick-fire goals from Luke Edwards and Richard Peters, Korie-Butler hit Athletic’s fourth which kept Congleton in 17th place. Squires Gate’s tremendous form under new manager Andy Clarkson came crashing to a halt as they were defeated 5-0 at Barnoldswick Town. Mark Threlfall and Zack Dale made it an uphill struggle early on for the visitors, and Andrew Hill, Matthew Cavanagh and Aaron Hollindrake all struck in the second half to move Barlick into the top half and Gate down to 13th. 14th placed West Didsbury & Chorlton have now lost six on the spin after a narrow 1-0 reverse at 1874 Northwich. Scott McGowan’s second half finish proved the difference between the teams; his side remain 18th, although they have played fewer league matches than anyone else. There were two games between teams in the bottom five. In the first of those, AFC Liverpool overcame AFC Darwen 4-2 thanks to two goals apiece from Kevin Edgar and Daniel Boden. Lee Turner had struck for the visitors to make it 1-1, whilst Sidi Fofana cut the deficit late on. The other saw Burscough’s resurgence continue as they won 2-1 at bottom club Barnton. Adam Gilchrist put the away team in front, and although Chris Smith equalised for the Villagers, Chad Whyte struck with 12 minutes to go to put his side up to 20th. In the First Division, an extraordinary weekend of action left supporters with much to mull over! After 17 consecutive victories, runaway leaders Silsden suffered their first set-back as they were beaten by Nathan Reid’s last minute goal at in-form Holker Old Boys, who moved up to 10th. However, their lead at the summit remains 13 points after closest challengers Litherland REMYCA also lost in Cumbria, going down 2-1 at Carlisle City. David Renyard’s brace, including a winner 10 minutes from time, earned the team in 11th a huge three points. Paul Foy grabbed the REMYCA goal. Prestwich Heys could have returned to 2nd, but they suffered a 3-0 defeat at Cammell Laird 1907. Two goals from Joe Malkin and a terrific volley from Kieran Hamm put Lairds 7th in the table. Alsager Town had the opportunity to close the gap on the three teams above them, but they too were beaten 3-2 at home by 14th placed New Mills. Three goals in ten first-half minutes – two from Dennis Sherriff separated by a Robert Lofthouse free-kick – had the Millers in dreamland, and although late efforts from Jordan Cobley and Oliver Jepson made it an interesting finale, the nine men visitors held on. One side who took advantage of those slip-ups was AFC Blackpool in 5th, who recorded a 2-1 home victory against Stockport Town to move within six points of the top two. Ben Duffield and Daniel Pickering had the hosts two to the good, and although Jamie Hinchliffe’s reduced the arrears for the Lions, he couldn’t prevent his side from slipping to 9th. The action came in the last 15 minutes at Sandbach United as Andy Hockenhull’s men came from behind to win against Whitchurch Alport in a battle between two sides well in the play-off mix. Arron Johns put Alport in front, but goals from Ryan Allcock and Josh Lane kept Sandbach in 6th as the visitors dropped to 8th, though they do have games in hand on their rivals. In an encounter between two teams who have been in strong form of late, FC Oswestry Town continued their revival as Alun Morris turned one point into three with just a minute to go at Atherton LR. Town remained 18th, whilst LR fell to 12th. Two goals in the space of three second half minutes from Niall Barnes helped 15th placed Chadderton to complete their comeback at home to Abbey Hulton United, who had led through Joshua Walker but now sit 13th in the standings. A place below Chaddy are Cheadle Town after they won 2-1 at Nelson, who continue to prop up the table. Thomas Ratican put Anthony Trucca’s team ahead, and although David Patrick responded for the Admirals, Richard Whyatt ensured that the visitors were not denied all three points. Bacup Borough stayed 17th after a dramatic 2-1 triumph at 20th placed St Helens Town. Things were looking good for the home side when Luke Edwards fired them ahead early after the restart, but two goals including one in injury time from Matthew Bryan gave Brent Peters’ team a crucial away win. The final game of the weekend saw Louis Downs’ opener for Eccleshall cancelled out by Daisy Hill’s Jordan Prescott as the pair drew 1-1 at New Sirs. The hosts are still 21st and the visitors 19th. And so it was a remarkable Saturday which few could have predicted before the start of play! The results were testament to how competitive both divisions are this term, and it will be fascinating to see what surprises the Macron Cup has to throw up in the week!
