Saturday 14th July 2018//The Brian Addison Stadium // Attendance: 85 Goals either half for Ric Seear and Ryan Riley rounded off an impressive victory for Andy Clarkson side. He handed three debuts to new signings Joe Booth, Matty Kay and Adam Sumner, whilst striker Ric Seear started up front after returning to the club from Kendal Town. On a lovely Saturday afternoon on the Fylde Coast, Gate more than held their own in the opening exchanges playing some nice short passing football. Brig posed a tough test for Gate after coming into the game three games into their pre-season schedule. Gate looked to play the early ball to both a Seear and Dawson up top, threatening Brig’s backline. Some nice football from experienced midfielders Booth and Kay controlled the game in midfielder for Gate, both playing against their former club. The homeside made the break through around 30 minutes into the game. A corner routine straight of the training ground working to perfection. The corner found the striker who punished the visitors with a textbook Seear finish straight into the top corner. Brig came close on occasions but didn’t test Ben Fletcher in goal for Gate. A corner was cleared by Seydou Bamba close to half time which saw a Brig player on the edge of the box fire over. Gate ended the half with a chance to double their lead, but a tasty looking cross from Brett Dawson was collected at the near post with

HALF TIME: SQUIRES GATE 1-0 BAMBER BRIDGE The second half started with Brig coming close to getting back into the game. They looked to capitalise on a mistake at the back from Gate, but we’re flagged offside. Gate went close with more exciting football. Joe Booth found the run of Ryan Riley but his cross was blocked for a corner. From the corner the ball fell to Ric Seear on the edge of the box, but he fired wide of the target. In almost a copy of the first chance, Gate doubled their lead. The run of Riley was again found on the right but this time the winger took the ball in his stride and fired across goal to double Gate’s lead. After making several changes, Gate kept up their performance and had several chances late on. First a corner came out to Ryan Charnley on the edge of the box but his shot was deflected into the keeper arms. Dean Ing then went close when he intercepted a short goal kick from Brig. But the former Brig player curled his shot the wrong side of the post and wide. Ric Seear had the last chance of the game but he fired over from outside the box.

HARDY 7 ROWE 9 TRIALLIST 14 65

Tuesday 17th July 2018// The Brian Addison Stadium // Attendance:195 oals from James Hardy and Danny Rowe gave the National League side the lead after just ten minutes in what looked like it would be a long night for Andy Clarkson’s men. That wasn’t to be though as this new look side kept trying to break down the full time outfit in their second pre-season game. Gate though could only enjoy brief spells of possession in the opening 30 minutes before going behind again on 12 minutes. One of several players on trial with the National League side finishing a silky passing move from Dave Challionors side. Gate looked to break into the box and test Fylde but after a short spell of possession from a short freekick, the chance broke down. Fylde could and probably should have scored another two goals towards the half hour mark when first Danny Rowe fired a ball into the box from the left but his teammate fired over. Then Fylde’s man man Rowe again found a team mate arriving late into the box but he also couldn’t find the goal. Some clever play from Ryan Riley almost broke down the visitors defence as he drifted inside from the right but his ball looking for the run of Ric Seear was cut out by Fylde defender Tunnicliffe. Gate goal keeper Ben Fletcher then showed why he was one of the first player Andy Clarkson resigned on 38 minutes when he made a fine double save. First he pushed a shot onto the post before a point blank save denied another Fylde man.

HALF TIME: Squires Gate 0-3 AFC Fylde Prievously mentioned Ben Fletcher had to be alert early into the second half as he denied Fylde one on one. Gate then had one of their trialist to thank when Fletcher was beaten he was in the right place on the line to clear. Danny Rowe had a good chance to double his goal tally for the night when he arrived late into the box, but headed wide. One of Fylde’s former players lining up for Gate came close to setting up a chance for Gate on 64 minutes. Former Fylde youth team player Dean Ing powered through midfield past two midfield players, but his through ball to Dawson was just too heavy and the keeper collected. Fylde would add another goal minutes later. Danny Rowe again involved as his ball over to the back post found one of their many trialists who fires past Ben Fletcher. As more trialists entered the game for both teams, the game petered out as Gate kept up with the visitors until the end.

1 0 AFC BLACKPOOL

Saturday 21st July 2018//The Brain Addison Stadium // Attendance: 70 Squires Gate and AFC Blackpool met on Saturday afternoon as both continue their preparations for the coming season. It was the first time the two sides have met since the 2015/16 season which ended with relegation for AFC Blackpool to the NWCFL First Division. Gate manager Andy Clarkson came into this game still looking to test out new ideas with the season two weeks away and welcomes back both Tarren Moxon and Gary Pett back for their first games of pre season. Straight from kick off the visitors won themselves a freekick but couldn’t capitalise. The ball was sent into the box to find an AFC man but his shot was blocked for a corner which Ben Fletcher collected. Gates first real chance of the game came for Brett Dawson on 12 minutes but the forward headed Tarren Moxon’s cross in wide. AFC tested Ben Fletcher again on 17 minutes but the shot was straight into Gate’s number ones arms. Gate eventually opened the scoring on 38 minutes. One of several former AFC Blackpool players in Gate’s team Dean Ing, threw himself at the ball at the back post to head in Adam Sumner’s cross from the left.

HALF TIME: Squires Gate 1-0 AFC Blackpool

Gate had a good chance to double their lead five minutes into the second half. A corner to a gate came out to Dawson at the back post, the striker took a touch but fired into the side netting. Last season top goal scored Gary Pett was then introduced to the game and he made an instant impact. His quick throw found Ryan Riley who in turn found Joe Booth but the midfielders shot was blocked for a corner which Dave Rossall headed wide. Pett was again involved soon after with a chance of his own but Gate again couldn’t find the net. The striker was in the right place to meet Tarren Moxon’s cross but his header was the wrong side of the post. A quick set of end to end chances came in the 68th minute when first Gate then AFC tested both keepers. Gates Chance came through Dean Ing who took aim from outside the box but his shot was smothered by the keeper. AFC then played the ball quickly looking to catch out Gate but former Gate striker Jack Williams fired straight at Ben Fletcher. AFC went close again in the 70th minute when a last ditch tackle from sub Seydou Bamba denied them but they couldn’t test Gate from the corner. Gate went close late on but after some impressive passing, Matty Kay’s shot was easily saved by the keeper.

AWAY DUGOUT

DAVE SUTTON Dave was appointed by Burscough board 2 season ago but after 2 sticky season he will be looking to be back up there with the best and try to Grain promotion back to the Evo-stick. As he found out last season this league is no walk over. Dave and his team will know that gate are no walk over, however there beat Gate 3 times there know gate has improved under Andy so he wont take last season results beat them.

HISTORY OF THE GREENS In 1989/90 season Burscough suffered their first ever relegation, however, the appointment of Russ Perkins as manager in 1991 was to bring about a change in the club’s fortunes as Burscough reached the League Cup Final and gained promotion back to Division One. In 1992/93 Burscough lost 2-1 to Conference bound Southport in the Liverpool Senior Cup Final at Goodison Park before 2,000 spectators. Success was achieved by winning the League Challenge Cup with a 2-1 victory over Nantwich Town. In May 1995, Burscough appointed John Davison as Manager. In his first season Burscough went on to win the League Challenge Cup for the second time, beating League Champions Flixton 1-0 at Gigg Lane, Bury. In 1996/97 Frank Parr completed 50 years with the Club and was presented with The Football Association 50 Year Long Service Award. The following season after finishing runners-up in the North West Counties League the club made history by being promoted to the Unibond League. They also won the League Floodlit Trophy and reached the final of the Liverpool Senior Cup against Liverpool. In 2000/01 season the Linnets won the Liverpool Senior Cup for the first ever time after beating Conference side Southport. Following the resignation of John Davison the club appointed Shaun Teale as player/manager in May 2002 and the ex-Aston Villa defender went on to sensationally lead the club to its greatest ever achievement as Burscough became the smallest club to ever win the FA Trophy following a tremendous 2-1 victory over Tamworth at Villa Park on Sunday 18th May 2003 in front of a crowd of 14,296 spectators and televised live on Sky. There were incredible scenes as almost 2,000 fans welcomed the team home to Victoria Park that evening but celebrations were dampened less than six weeks later as the club found it necessary to relinquish Teale of his managerial duties. Former Liverpool, Galatasary and West Ham United midfielder Mike Marsh was appointed manager but after a poor start to the season Marsh resigned and ex-Southport defender Derek Goulding took over in October 2003.An incredible end to 2003/04 season saw Burscough finish with a remarkable run of victories that saw them claw their way out of the bottom three into the play-offs for Conference North. Despite playing all their games away from home the Linnets went on to reach the play-off final where they only went down at Bradford Park Avenue following extra-time. During the summer Frank Parr stepped down after 30 years as chairman with local businessman Chris Lloyd taking over at the helm. Season 2005/06 was another historic one for Burscough F.C. as they went on to reach the Second Round proper of the F.A. Cup for the first time in their history. In reaching that milestone they defeated League One side Gillingham 3-2 on a never to be forgotten day at Victoria Park before going out to Burton Albion. Derek Goulding`s tenure as manager ended in June 2006 when he was replaced by former Southport manager, Liam Watson. The 2006/07 season was Burscough F.C`s Diamond Jubilee and one of the ways the club marked the event was by playing in a predominantly white kit with a specially designed badge. The season was one of the most succesful in history when the Linnets won the Unibond Northern Premier Division and the Lancashire Co-Op Trophy, formerly the Lancashire Junior Cup, for the first time in 40 years when neighbours Marine were defeated. The league success was only confirmed after a thrilling climax. On the last day of the season the Linnets won at A.F.C. Telford United in front of nearly 6,000 fans. The victory meant they overhauled the New Bucks Head side at the top of the table and won the title on goal difference by just 1 goal from Witton Albion. Further success came when Unibond First Division champions Buxton were defeated 3-1 in the Peter Swailes Memorial Shield to round off a great season and confirm Burscough as Treble Winners. In their first season in Conference North, Burscough finished in 8th position, but manager Liam Watson and many of the players departed during the close season. Assistant manager Joey Dunn took over as manager in July 2008, but was replaced by Andy Mutch at the beginning of October. Burscough finished next to bottom of the league and were relegated back to the Unibond Premier with Andy Gray taking over as manager for the start of the 2009-10 campaign. The season was completed under difficult circumstances after chairman Chris Lloyd stood down and withdrew all funding. The Supporters Club accepted the raising of funds to complete the seasons fixtures, and were successful in this objective. During the close season the ground was sold to Chequer Properties Ltd who in turn leased the ground back to the football club at a peppercorn rent, the property company also purchased Chris Lloyd’s majority shareholding, but did not wish to be involved with the day to day running of the football side of the business, and asked Frank Parr to return as chairman and form a committee to carry out these duties. New Chairman Gary Wright appointed at the end of the 2010-11 season to oversee the temporary move to short lived groundshare with local neighbours Skelmersdale United before moving back to Victoria Park midwat through the season. One of Wright's first decisions was to find a replacement for manager Chris Stammers, who resigned after a poor start to the 2011-12 season, with former manager Derek Goulding making a return to the club. Goulding started to galvanize the side during the season, but he couldn’t stop the inevitable, and despite a promising end to the season the Linnet's were relegated from the NPL Premier division. August 2012 would see renewed optimism for Burscough. It would see the Supporters Club get back on board and help in the rebuild of the club. Goulding would spend the summer rebuilding the team on the pitch, and a hard working Football Club committee would start to rebuilt the club off it. Burscough FC finished the 2012-2013 season in mid table in 11th place and the following season they again finished mid table, this time in 14th position. The club continued to play in the First Division North for the 2014-2015 season under Derek Goulding until he left for Bangor City in October 2014. Mark Beesley was named Caretaker Manager till January 2015 when he was given the role of manager full time, he brought in Liam Blakeman as his assistant. After a successful first season in charge when finishing in fifth place Burscough made the play offs losing to Spennymoor Town, Mark left the club just before the start of the 2016/17 season along with many key players and despite their best efforts the club were relegated to the Hallmark North West Counties League for the 2017/18 season.

Saturday 28th July 2018/ /Kick Off 2pm The newly promoted West Lancashire League Premier Division side are managed by former Gate defender Tom Bartlett, who played for Gate Under Andy Clarkson. t was Bartlett’s side who made the brighter start to the game and took the lead after six minutes. A pinpoint cross from the left hand side found the homesides lovely striker who fires past Jack Hargeaves, making his first start of Pre-season. Gate looked to reply but a clever looking ball down the line looking for Ric Seear from Adam Sumner was put out for a corner. The corner found the head of Seydou Bamba up from the back, but his header back across goal couldn’t find a Gate player. The homeside went close on fifteen minutes when the ball was flicked past Gate’s defence, luckily keeper Jack Hargeaves was alive to the danger quickly coming off his line. One of many exciting factors in Clarkson’s new look side this year is the partnership of Ric Seear and Gary Pett up front who both started together for the first time in this game. The pair came close in the seventeenth minute when a ball over the top found Seear’s run, but he couldn’t find Pett with a drilled ball back across the box. After getting closer and closer, Gate finally found an equaliser in the twenty-ninth minute. Adam Sumnef sending in a cross to find Pett who rose highest to meet the ball first ahead of the home keeper to head in. The two then linked up two minutes later when Sumner cut inside looking for a shot, instead he lay the ball to Pett, but his shot rolled wide. Gates last chance of the game came when Ric Seear intercepted a back pass and squared to Gary Pett, but his shot was saved.

HALF TIME: Hurst Green 1-1 Squires Gate

After a couple of half time changes Gate really started to come into the game. Early chances for Brett Dawson whose volley was denied by a fine save from the keeper. Minutes later Ryan Charnley came close when his cross was pushed over by the keeper. A big kick from keeper Jack Hargreaves on sixty minutes saw Gate come close again. He found Gary Pett who flicked the ball to find the run of Brett Dawson but his shot was wide. A minute later the homeside had the chance to retake their lead from the penalty spot. One of Gate's trialist's in defence was judged to have handled the ball when sliding in to win the ball inside the box. The Hurst Green man made no mistake, rolling the ball past Hargreaves. Gate found the equaliser nine minutes later with some superb football that wouldn't look out of place in higher leagues. After keeping possession and working the ball around the pitch from defence, Joey Mullen drove a ball to the back post where Dean Ing arrived late to head past the keeper. Just four minutes later Gate took the lead for the first time in the game. A soft looking foul saw Gary Pett step up to send the keeper the wrong way In a late goal flurry for Gate, they added a fourth goal with seven minutes left. Ric Seear keeping his composure in the six yard box to sit the keeper down and roll the ball into the net.

Tuesday 31st July 2018/Ballam Road // Kick Off 7:30pm t was a frustrating evening for Squires Gate in their final game of pre-season before the start of the 2018/19 season on Saturday. Gate dominated the game throughout but despite plenty of possession, couldn't test the goal keeper. Gate's really found their rhythm in the last twenty five minutes of the game scoring three goals in thirteen minutes. Gate's first chance of the game came for Joe Booth. He closed down the Lytham back line and won the ball but fired wide from the edge of the box. Lytham's first chance of the game came after twenty minutes but a cross to the back post was headed wide by the late arrival into the box. Gate made the breakthrough twentyfive minutes into the game through former Lytham striker Ric Seear. He won Gate a penalty after he was pushed in the back, inside the box. He handed the ball over to striker partner Gary Pett who made no mistake and buried the ball past the keeper to give Gate the lead. Gate came close again after thirty six minutes when Joe Booth played a well timed ball through to find the run of Ric Seear but Seear was flagged just offside. One of Gate's two trialist one show was next to create a chance for Gate and it ended up being the second goal. He'll be claiming it though his cross into the box took a nasty deflection that saw the keeper beat at the near post. Brett Dawson and Joe Booth combined on the edge of the box on the stroke of half time but the latters shot was saved with the follow-up corner cleared by Lytham.

Half time: Lytham Town 0-2 Squires Gate

After several changes from Gate at half time, they want close to adding another goal a minute into the second half. A freekick into the box found Dean Ing who has already scored two headers this pre-season, but his header was over the bar. Gate came close again when Brett Dawson and Matty Kay linked up with some nice one touch football around the box. Dawson's ball round the corner found Matty Kay's run but his shot inside the six yard box was well saved by the keeper. Lytham went close in the sixty-second minute but put a great chance over the bar. They made up for it four minutes later when they were awarded a penalty for handball in the box which was put past Ben Fletcher. Another penalty came later in the game for Gate to add a third goal. Trialist fouled in the box allowing Sub Ryan Riley to step up and fire the ball past the keeper for Gate's third goal. Gate found the net again just eight minutes later. Ryan Riley played a lovely ball out to the right where Trialist, who claimed the first goal, burst into the box and fired across goal past the keeper. Ryan Riley again picked out another key pass for his second assist a minute later when he found Joe Booth who rose highest to head past the keeper to finish the game for Gate.

HANLEY TOWN THOPRE 15 86

Saturday 4th August 2018/ Victoria Park/Att:94/ HT: 1-1

With the ongoing hot dry weather the game was played on a hard surface with an uneven bounce. The first real danger on either sides goal came on 10minutes a Cummings cross from the right for the home side was headed down only for a su-

perb covering clearance by Town defender Thorpe denied an effort at goal.On 18minutes a Nicholls throughball released new signing KIERON BALL only for Burscough's Brady to race across to clear the danger. But from the resulting corner JOSH THORPE rose above everyone to thump an header into the net via the underside of the crossbar.A minute later the home side almost levelled after a shot from the edge of the penalty area by Whyte flew just past the Hanley right hand post. On 22minutes Town's Connor cleared a Cummings goalbound effort a yard off the goalline,3minutes later Cummings set up Grier who fired just over the crossbr from distance. On the half hour mark a superb Faulkner covering clearance inside the 6yard box after a Cummings cross was whipped into the box.A minute later Town keeper Wyatt raced off his line to deny Whyte after being sent clear.Burscough got a deserved equaliser on 38minutes when a Cummings cross found Whyte to sidefoot home from close range.

Half-Time: Burscough 1 Hanley Town 1 Hanley started the second half the better of the two sides,in the opening 12minutes Stanyer had a 22yard shot blocked,a Sheldon cross from the left found Harry who stretching headed wide,a Sheldon run and cross down the right flew accross the 6yard box finding Ball sliding in at the back post only to fire just over the crossbar and Nicholls long distance effort was saved by the Burscough keeper Povey. 01 MAXWELL POVEY

On the hour mark Burscough should have taken the lead after a Whyte header crashed off the crossbar from a corner Ward was brought down inside the penalty area Town keeper OWEN WYATT saved Whyte's penalty before being hooked clear.Five minutes later Hanley had a brilliant chance to take the lead themselves, a superb clipped pass by Stanyer almost found J.Skellern only for the Burscough keeper Povey to race out to parry the ball away straight to Sheldon who fired just over the crossbar with the an open goal. On 76minutes Town were awarded a penalty themselves when from a Connor throw in found Tunstall who was nudged in the back,Town forward Ball driilled the penalty just past the post.On 86minutes a Faukner freekick from the right was headed down by

Saturday 04 August 2018//Cobbydale Construction Stadium // Attendance:208 . Experienced players Adam Sumner, Matty Kay and new Captain Joe Booth all started whilst former Gate striker Ric Seear lined up for the club for the first time in two years after his spell in the Evo Stik. Gate made a lively start to the game with the homeside struggling to cope with their movement in the first 20 minutes. Gate had chances from several freekick after fouls from the homeside but couldn't capitalise. Shouts for a penalty from Gate were waved away after 8 minutes when Ryan Riley's cross looked to have been handled in the box by a Silsden man.Gate took the lead after 20 minutes when Ric Seear capitalised on an error from the home keeper. A ball through from midfield found the run of Seear who ran past the keeper who was in no-mans land to roll the ball into the empty net. Seear could have doubled his and Gate's tally 4 minutes later but he was denied by a fine save from the keeper from his volley. The corner fell to Joe Booth but his shot was again saved by the keeper.Silsden came close to equalising after 27 minutes but had striker Gary Pett to thank. A freekick fired towards Ben Fletcher took a bobble in front of the keeper who pushed the ball away only for striker Gary Pett to clear the ball off the line. On the stroke of half time, Gate came close to doubling the lead in strange fashion. A Gate freekick came back out to Adam Sumner who sent a cross back into the box that went narrowly wide, almost creeping in at the back post.

Half Time: Silsden 0-1 Squires Gate The second half started with Gate playing some lovely football along the edge of the Silsden box but Gate could find the target with Joe Booth firing wide. Booth was involved again minutes later when he cut the ball back to Ric Seear but the striker scuffed his shot which the keeper saved. Silsden threatened when they countered from a Gate corner. The keeper punching the ball away as Booth challenged allowing Silsden to counter but they fired over when it counted. As the homeside came into the game, Ben Fletcher did his best to deny them. He made a fine save to push the ball away low down before Silsden fired wide. Gate came close late on into the last 10 minutes and thoughts they'd doubled the lead. A freekick from Adam Sumner found the head of Gary Pett but he headed uncharacteristically wide. Ben Fletcher again had to be alive with two minutes of the game left when he pulled out another top draw save. Fletcher stretched to push over an effort from outside the box to deny the homeside as they pushed for an equaliser. That equaliser would come into added time from Sub Danny Forest. The former Bradford City striker who manages Silsden, subbed himself on and was in the right place at the right time to fire past Fletcher to earn a draw for his side.

VIEW FROM AWAY END

PETER HILL

This week we interviewed life long Burscough Fan Peter Hill, we found out what his favourite moment at Burscough, what his expectations are for the season from what he has seen in the pre season so fair. We also found out what new teams he is looking forward to facing this season and then finally we got his predictions on todays game. Firstly how long have you been at Burscough and what is your most favourite moment there?

With FA Cup next week what is favourite fa cup game you have been too?

I attended my first game at Victoria Park in 1982/83 and I have been supporting Burscough “full time” since 1999/00 season. My favourite moment watching The Greens has to be, when we went to Yeovil in the FA Trophy quarter final…and won 2 -0. Not bad for a side that went there with “no chance at all of winning.”

Burscough 3 Gillingham 2 – FA Cup 1st round proper 2005. One game away from playing Man Utd. Burton, sadly, had no romance in their souls.

What are your expectations for the season from what you have seen In your pre-season games? Pre-season does not hold much stock with me. It’s great to have the footie back and a record of P5 W3 D1 L1 is okay but will have no real bearing on the league. My expectations are heart says we will be there or there abouts while my head suggests that a top 10 finish is more realistic. What is nailed on is that Chad Whyte will score goals.

Do you think you can improve on your 19th place finish last season? Without a doubt. The lads finished last season very strongly to avoid relegation and reach the Macron Cup Final against Widnes. Okay we lost but the lads came out of the game with massive credit .Widnes keeper was “man of the match” and that says it all. The lads really did the fans and the club proud as well as giving Widnes multiple scares.

Have you improved on squad from last season and who do you think will be a threat? It was great to hear that nearly all of the squad that ended last season so gloriously have been retained. The team seems to have an incredible spirit and, at times, in the run in last season, were like a force of nature. We have players all over the park who are more than capable of producing special moments and the new lads look to be valuable and welcomed additions to the squad too. I read that two players have returned to the club from their studies and we know enough about them to be very pleased to have them back . As for Chad Whyte..? He scores goals !!

Have you ever been to Gate before if so what was the score? Incredibly… no. Due to work commitments, I tend to prioritise all home games and selected away matches throughout the season. I rarely get to mid-week away matches unless it is somebody local e.g. Charnock Richard,Bootle etc.

Have you ever been to Wembley old or new ? Just the once…in 1973 ..with Greetby Hill Junior school to watch England Schoolboys beat France schoolboys 4 – 1. Should have been twice but Burscough played the FA Trophy final at Villa Park in 2003. D’oh!

Who from Gate do you think be a biggest threat for Burscough to handle? It has to be last season’s player of the year and top scorer – Gary Pett.- 10 man of the match performances too helps. I am sure that all our lads will give all your lads total respect.

With linnets getting promoted finally last year which team do you think will be up there this season challenge for the title? Fierce competition will come from the likes of Bootle , Charnock Richard and Runcorn Town. I fancy newly promoted Litherland REMYCA to be in the mix too. Burscough are a good side. Then there is “The Purps”. How about Burscough and Gate going up automatically? It’s still all to play for!

Finally a prediction for today's game? Chad Whyte scores goals. So…I’ll go Gate 1 Burscough 2…I’ll get me coat…stop pushin…

HEAD TO HEAD IN NUMBERS Burscough and Gate has played 3 games against since Burscough relation to the league last year Burscough has score 11 goals vs Gate in there 3 meeting last year The highest attendance between the two side has been 103 and that the first meeting between the two side in the league last season Burscough has won all 3 games that the two teams has met

Gate has not won any goals vs Burscough as off yet

There has been one meeting in the cup over the 3 games

LAST TIME GATE WAS HERE WEST DIDSBURY 4 GATE 2 West would take the lead just three minutes into the game. Winger Steer curling the ball inside the near post to beat Hall.Mike Hall then had to be alert on 7 minutes to pull of a superb save. He pushes the ball up before Jake Higham acrobatically cleared off the line with an overhead kick. Gates first chance of the game didn’t come till the 11th minute. A freekick to Gate after a foul on Penswick founds it’s way to Moxon at the back post, but his cross back in was too heavy. The home side would then go close on 15 minutes, luckily for Gate though they shot wide after Carroll missed his tackle.West would double their lead on 19 minutes. Farr to easy for them to just thread a pass through to Steer for his second of the game. Gate had a great chance to grab a goal back after 30 minutes, with not one but two shots falling to Thornber. He found the ball at his feet before shooting twice, both shots blocked by West. Gary Pett was the next to have a great chance for Gate. On 37 minutes the ball fell to the midfielder at the back post but he fired over. Gate would have to be alert early into the second half when they had to clear a west corner after a scramble in the box.Gate then had a corner of their own after Moxon put the keeper under pressure, but Moorhead's header flew over the bar. Gate then mounted a counter after West had pushed forward, Tarren Moxon found Mark Buchan on the wing who returned the pass but Moxon's shot was weak and easily saved. The homeside would add another goal in the 71st minute. This time midfielder Matty Kay heading in at the back post after Gate allowed the cross to come in too easily. Dean Ing then had two seperate chances to grab a goal back for Gate. First his shot from distance just went over the crossbar. He then put a low cross into the box but that was put out for a corner, Gary Pett firing over the resulting corner. Striker Tom Bailey would then get in on the act on 81 minutes for the homeisde with a goal very similar to Kay's goal previously. The cross coming in too easily again and Bailey found himself at the back post to head in. Gate would get themselves a goal back a minute later. Sub Jack Williams firing low past the keeper after Mike Hall had left the ball for him. Sub Williams would then grab another goal into added time. A quality pass from manager Danny Penswick found the run of Williams who ran into the box and stretched to poke past the keeper. West coming close to clearing off the line but the retreating defender couldn't reach the ball.

DID YOU KNOW? In a brand new feature we tell some football record that may shock you about the FIFA world cup and football in general . In all of the world cup history their has been 231 European team that has qualfy for the world cup since it stared in 1930.

1977 was when the first ever penalty shoot out was used in a qualifying history. It was used to decide the game Tunisia v Morocco where Tunisia beat morocco 4-2 in that penalty shoot out

1993 was the year where we saw the fastened goals scored in a world cup qualifying campaign. The guy who got it was Davide Gualtieri for san Marino who score his goal after 9 second v England however England went on to win 7-1 in that game

Ali Daei is the all time top goalscorer in Fifa World cup Qualifiers. He scored 9 goald in the 2006 qualifying campaign took his tallu up to 30 which took him 9 ahead of the previous/ joint holder Kazu Muira.

Australia seat a Fifa World cup Record in 2001 when there scored 53 goals in this a two day period. The two results was 22 - 0 v Tonga then a 31-0 win over American Samoa

This Zambia player became the oldest player to ever score in a world cup game when he came on as a sub to net the only goal v Liberia in 2004 which is 20 years late from when he scored his first goal Italy was the only host team that had to go though a qualify round in order to play in there own tournament

In a new feature we team up with the Non-league paper editor Matt Badcock who is going a little bit off a column each week to place into our programme so all you non-league fan can found out at happen all across the non-league pyramid THE NEW SEASON THERE was a certain relief walking out of NLP Towers at 9:30pm last Saturday night. Another summer had been negotiated, August is here and competitive football is finally back. The off-season is a busy one for us as we aim to keep producing engaging articles people will enjoy reading and, I hope, we have once again managed to do that. While there might not be a full programme of matches for a few weeks, there’s always something going on in Non-League football once the regular season finishes at the end of April. The play-offs get into full swing immediately, then there’s all the finals to cover, restructuring, league constitutions, league constitutions part two, transfers, fixtures, FA Cup, Trophy and Vase draws and, eventually, pre-season matches. But there’s nothing quite like that first Saturday of the new campaign. Where everyone turns up, level on points, full of hope and ambition, with fans wondering, ‘Could this be our year?’ New players have been signed, stands have had a lick of paint and there’s grass in all the goalmouths – although this year much of it will be parched! I imagine there will be some expensive water bills dropping on the doormats of clubs in the near future as groundsmen battle against the heat. Of course, we’ve had the World Cup to tick us over too and with England going deep into the competition, the excitement and feel-good factor has been palpable. Non-League football can really benefit from the national side having a good competition too. And there was plenty to be proud of for this level of the game with Jordan Pickford’s loan spells at Darlington and Alfreton taking up many column inches, along with Nick Pope’s Bury Town beginning and the well-told tale of Jamie Vardy. Who knows where the players kicking off over the coming weeks will end up in a few years’ time. That’s one of the exciting parts of this time of year. It’s all ahead of us now. The surprises, the shocks, the Cup runs – over the coming nine months stories and memories will unfold for everyone. We’ll enjoy covering every kick. Good luck! SIN BINS Could we see the use of Sin Bins throughout the Non-League Pyramid in the future? Last season the FA trialled the punishment across 31 leagues at various levels and this year that will be expanded with the plan for every Step 7 and below league to use them from 2019-20. The FA chose to use sin bins solely for dissent. Did you know that one in four yellow cards is given for that offence? And last season’s Pilot showed a significant reduction of 38 per cent. It seems to be tackling the problem. The hope is sin bins will change behaviour because it will have an immediate impact. Backchat will see a player spend 10 minutes on the sidelines (eight minutes for games of 80 minutes or less) and will harm the team straightaway, rather than receive a booking and carry on. The FA’s Head of Judicial Services, Mark Ives, answered questions on the system as part of our monthly NLP column with the governing body. He explained how the FA are governed by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) when it comes to laws of the game. At the moment, they are only allowed to introduce it at the grass-roots level. But should that change, I wonder if we’ll see it higher up the ladder. If it works, which it seems to, that can only be a good thing.

NEWS FROM AROUND THE LEAGUE A new-look Hallmark Security League began with a bang as nets rustled across the North West in the Premier Division and the First Division North and South. 17 clubs made their first appearance at this level, whilst three returned after spells away. Perhaps the most eye-catching result of the afternoon came in the top tier as City of Liverpool triumphed 6-3 at 1874 Northwich to lead the table at this early stage. Prolific marksman Craig Cairns netted a hat-trick on his debut for the Purps. Cairns’ former club Runcorn Town are joint-top after recording an excellent 5-2 win at Padiham. Goals from five different scorers had built the visitors a five-goal cushion before the Storks netted a couple of consolations. Northwich Victoria also travelled home happy after seeing off West Didsbury & Chorlton 5-3, whilst a double from last year’s top scorer Carl Grimshaw saw Charnock Richard beat Barnoldswick Town 2-0. Hanley Town and Congleton Town were the other two sides who began with three points: Josh Thorpe’s brace saw the former win 2-1 at Burscough, and Emini Adegbenro struck for the latter to edge out newly promoted Litherland REMYCA. Silsden and Whitchurch Alport were the other two sides who climbed from the First Division last season, and both scored late equalisers to rescue a 1-1 draw on opening day: Danny Forrest for the Cobbydalers against Squires Gate, and Alex Hughes for Alport against Ashton Athletic. Abbey Hey came from 2-0 behind to earn a share of the spoils at home to Winsford United, and the only goalless game came at the TDP Solicitors Stadium, where Irlam picked up a very respectable point from their trip to Bootle. The first ever Division One North table is headed by new boys Avro, who hammered Ashton Town 5-0 on their return to the Hallmark Security League after a one year absence. Carlisle City also got off to a flier with a fine 3-0 victory at Atherton LR, and sitting below them are Longridge Town, who picked up where they left off after promotion as they won a thrilling contest with AFC Liverpool 5-3.The visitors were relegated from the Premier Division last season, and although they led 2-0 in this one, it couldn’t prevent them from suffering an early setback. Jay Hart bagged a decisive two goals for the home team. AFC Darwen also dropped from the Premier Division, but they hit the ground running with a 3-1 win at newly promoted Shelley. Adam Heaney struck the first and the last goal of this clash for Darwen. Two other sides had debuts to remember at this level: Alan Coar netted twice to help Garstang beat Daisy Hill 2-0, and Andrew Briggs’ goal midway through the second half was enough for Steeton to win 2-1 at Holker Old Boys. St Helens Town were 2-1 winners at Lower Breck in one of the day’s standout results as quick-fire goals from Liam Dodd and Liam Diggle turned the match on its head at Anfield Sports Community Centre. Nelson and Prestwich Heys also kick-started their campaigns with three points as they grabbed the only goal in respective contests against Chadderton and Bacup Borough. The division’s sole draw was a goalless one between AFC Blackpool and newcomers Cleator Moor Celtic. Newly-promoted Rylands sit at the summit in the First Division South after an eye-catching 5-1 win at Ellesmere Rangers, who were competing in the Hallmark Security League for the first time after being laterally transferred from the West Midlands Regional League (WMRL) Premier Division. Player/joint-manager Stuart Wellstead struck three times for the visitors and Gary Kenny twice. Vauxhall Motors enjoyed a perfect return to this level of football with an impressive 4-1 victory at New Mills, courtesy of a Ben Holmes brace and one each for Danny Cross and Greg Drummond. Cheadle Heath Nomads are also riding high in the early standings after making the step up as they beat Stockport Town 2-0 – a scoreline matched by their neighbours Cheadle Town thanks to two late goals at home to Wythenshawe Amateurs. Beaten play-off semi-finalists Sandbach United went down 2-0 at FC Oswestry Town – a great three points for the hosts now under the management of Matt Burton. Abbey Hulton United began their second term in the league with a 2-1 away victory at the returning Stone Dominoes – Kieran Lazenby’s brace the difference – whilst Eccleshall picked up the same result at Maine Road, who only dropped from the Premier Division last season. Reece White’s late goal settled this one for the Eagles. There was no relegation hangover for Barnton, who overcame St Martins 1-0 thanks to Steven Warburton’s second half strike, and it was a winning start to life at this level for Wythenshawe Town; Liam Crellin-Myers grabbed the only goal with eight minutes to spare against Alsager Town. And last but not least, losing play-off finalists Cammell Laird 1907 drew 3-3 with Stone Old Alleynians, who transferred from the WMRL. It was an emotional day at Kirklands as Lairds paid tribute to loyal supporter Jimmy Hyland after the sad news of his passing, and although Phil Burton’s rebuilt side led 2-0 and 3-1, a late header from Jack Tomlinson for the away team made it honours even. It was nice to get back underway and begin nine months of thrills and spills, and many sides now have midweek fixtures to continue building momentum or to show some “bouncebackability”!
