DANIEL PENSWICK “IRLAM HAVE LOOKED STRONG SINCE PROMOTION…THEY WILL BE NO PUSHOVERS” Good afternoon everyone,
Today we welcome Irlam to the Royal British Legion Stadium as we look to get back to winning ways. First of all I would like to welcome their players, committee and fans and I hope you enjoy your time here at Squires Gate.
Irlam have looked strong since promotion last season and will no doubt be looking to leave here with at least a share of the spoils. With some outstanding victories under their belt already this season we’ll be trying our hardest to set up well defensively to stop them playing their game. We will need to start the game on the front foot and not allow them to have a lot of the ball otherwise we could be in danger.
Last Saturdays draw at Nelson was the first time we’ve kept a clean sheet since the opening game of the season and whilst we didn’t fire quite as I’d of liked at the other end of the pitch. A clean sheet is always a bonus and something I hope we can replicate today.
It’s now 3 games since we last found the back of the net and the welcome return of Ric Seear should hopefully aid us in our quest for goals, Ric Seear has been important for us so far this season and is currently the 2nd highest goalscorer so it’s a positive to have him in the side.
Dave Rossall has joined from Wyre Villa and will provide a competition for places along the back four and will give us a boost defensively. I am very happy with the squad that we have put together now and we have strength in depth all over the pitch so I’m sure we can build on it and start to climb the table and challenge for the higher positions.
Let’s hope w can get the right balance between attack and defence and get back to winning ways.
Up the Gate.

Gate made a good start to the game looking good going forward though they struggled to find the finals pass from midfield into the front two. They couldn't make the pressure count on five minutes when after some good passing play around the box, Andrew Richards fired wide. Barnton had their first chance of the game after 10 minutes. But keeper Ben Fletcher was more then equal to the shot and easily saved. Down the other end striker Brett Dawson did well to control a ball over the top before playing in Ric Seear. Seear was found in the box but was crowded out by three Barnton defenders. Dawson was then involved again two minutes later when he played through Ben Seear, but Matt Conkie in goal was again equal to keep Gate out. Matt Conkie again kept Gate at bay on 20 minutes when he cam out and caught the ball from the corner. He then saved well with his feet coming off his line to beat Dawson to the ball. It's fair to see why Barnton goalkeeper Matt Conkie got Man of The Match for his side today particularly in the first half. Gate had several chances that, in recent weeks, they would have put away and have been going into half time in the lead. That wouldn't be the case though as it would be Barnton who went into half time with the lead. A ball through the middle found striker Chris Smith, who took a touch and lifted the ball over the on rushing Fletcher and into the net. The first half momentum that Gate delivered and maintained throughout the half seemed to have been sapped by the late goal in the first half. Though Gate had their chances and the visitors perhaps sat back Gate really couldn't find that spark of recent games.
Gate really couldn't find that spark of recent games. Mark Thornber picking the ball up short from the corner on 64 minutes but his cross in was too heavy and floated out for a goal kick. 10 minutes later Seydou Bamba sent a ball into the box that found the head of Ric Seear. But unfortunately Seear couldn't add to his 15 goal tally for the season as his header flew over the bar. Brett Dawson then had probably Gates best chance of the second half. Ryan Riley playing a lovely cross field pass to find Dawson at the edge of the box. He jinked past his man before firing into the side netting from a tight angle. The visitors would seal their three points and a perfect day for them in the 84th minute. Jonathan Jones chipping the ball over Fletcher after he came out to close the angle.

The first half had limited chances for either side who faced each other in September. The Storks winning that one 4-2. Gates limited chances came in the 24th and 33rd minutes. The first came from a corner which was fired in towards the head of Bamba, returning to his former club. He was in the middle but unfortunately keeper Donlon came out to punch clear. Gates second chance came when Brett Dawson did well to close down the keeper who panicked with the ball. Unfortunately for Gate the keeper recovered well before Dawson could find the waiting Seear. HT - Padiham 0-0 Squires Gate The second half was much of the same for either team. Both clubs cancelled each other out for much of the half. Striker Brett Dawson got into a few good positions most notably on 53 minutes. He tricked his way past Padiham's right back but shot the wrong side of the post.
Joe Noblet was next for Gate to take aim this time from a Freekick. After a foul near the edge of the box Joe Noblet stepped up but fired just wide of the post. Brett Dawson was sent through again with Gates best chance of the game. His striker partner Ric Seear played a clever ball through the defence to find Dawson's run. Dawson took a touch and fired but keeper Donlon did well to get down to his right to stop the shot. When perhaps a draw would have been a fair result for the game, the home side would win it late on. A scramble in the box fell to James Dean who poked past Fletcher in the 90th minute. Reported by Mark Ashmore

Following Wednesday nights late 1-0 loss to Padiham, Gate were made to settle for just a point on their second trip. Gate were without star striker Ric Seear and you could tel throughout the game, Gate missing that constant threat in the final third that Seear brings. The homeside came into the game in some bad form and had conceded 13 goals in their last two games. 7-0 in their last game away at Ashton Athletic a game in which they were 5-0 down at half time. Gates first real chance of the game came after nine minutes. A great outside of the foot pass from Noblet found Dawson in space but he fired wide. Gate then took a corner early to the feet of Seydou Bamba, but his cross in was blocked and then cleared. Mark Buchan almost got his head onto a Brett Dawson cross a minute later, but a Nelson defender managed to head the ball away before it could reach the unmarked Buchan. Nelson would go close themselves on 34 minutes but their number 11 didn't test Fletcher when he headed wide. Ben Seear then had Gates best and last chance of the first half. He drifted in from the left hand side into the box and connected well with Ryan Stayte's cross in, but the ball fell the wrong side of the post. Gate's second half would take a turn for the worse on 54 minutes when Gate would go down to 10 men. Midfielder Mark Thornber shown a straight red card for a tackle. That didn't really have much effect on the game though as Gate still went on to dominate the game even with less men. Though Gate did dominate the game for much of the first and second half they really struggled to test the keeper much like the homeside did with Ben Fletcher, who didn't have a shot to save. Probably Gate's best chance of the second half came from Brett Dawson. Sub Andy Richards finding the strikers run, Dawson took the ball past his man and shot, but keeper Lever did well to parry the ball away for a corner. It's the first time Gate have ended a game with a 00 scoreline since February 2016 and they'll be hoping it's the last time Reported by Mark Ashmore

THIS WEEK IN FOOTBALL HISTORY…. In our regular feature, we take a look back at the past week in football history from all around the world.
PAUL THE OCTOPUS
2010
On 26 October 2010, Paul, the world's most famous psychic octopus, died of natural causes. He was two and half years old. Housed at the Sea Life Center in Oberhausen, Germany, Paul first rose to prominence by picking his host country to win all of their matches at the UEFA Euro 2008 tournament. He chose the winner by selecting food from one of two clear plastic boxes placed in his tank, one box bearing the German flag and the other with that of Germany's opponent--the country whose flag was on the box containing the food he selected was predicted to be the winner. For that tournament, he successfully picked Germany as the winner in four out of six matches. Paul used the same methodology for Germany's matches in the 2010 World Cup. Unlike the previous tournament, however, Paul did not predict Germany to win every match, correctly calling losses to Serbia in the group stage and Spain in the semifinals. But he got every other match correct, including Germany's win over Uruguay in the third-place match. With Germany eliminated, Paul's handlers asked him to pick the winner of his first match that didn't involve the Germans--the final between Spain and the Netherlands. Again, Paul chose correctly, tipping Spain to lift the trophy. That result meant that he accurately selected the winner in all eight predictions for the tournament. With a 50/50 chance of guessing each winner, the probability of Paul's predictions was 256 to 1.
1969
INTERCONTINENTIAL CUP TROUBLE
On 22 October 1969, AC Milan won their first Intercontinental Cup in a match that one paper described as "the culmination of all that is evil in international club soccer." It was the second leg of the competition between European Cup champions Milan and Copa Libertadores winners Estudiantes. The Argentinians faced an uphill battle, as the Intercontinental Cup had just moved away from a points system to an aggregate score model and the Italians had won the first leg 3-0 in Milan. The return leg at La Bombenera became hostile even before the opening kick-off: Estudiantes players kicked balls at the visiting team during warm-ups and some of the 45,000 spectators reportedly dumped hot coffee on the Milan players as they took the pitch. But the situation grew worse in the 17th minute, as Milan striker Pierino Prati--who had scored a hat-trick in Milan's 4-1 win over Ajax in that year's European Cup--suffered a mild concussion and was briefly unconscious. He managed to play on until the 37th minute, when he was replaced by Giorgio Rognoni. By that time, Milan had extended their aggregate lead to 4-0 with a 30th-minute goal from captain Gianni Rivera. It wasn't all good for Rivera, though, who was on the receiving end of a punch from Estudiantes goalkeeper Alberto Poletti. Poletti also delivered a kick to the face of Milan's Argentina-born French striker Nestor Combin (pictured), who suffered a broken nose and cheekbone thanks to an elbow from Estudiantes defender Ramón Aguirre Suárez. Estudiantes managed to score twice before the break (including a goal from Suárez), but were unable to close the gap and lost 4-2 on aggregate. Afterward, faced with harsh criticism from the international football community, including the Guardian report quoted above, the Argentine Football Association issued several punishments: Poletti received a lifetime ban, Suárez got a 30-game suspension and a five-year international ban, and defender Eduardo Manero received a 20-game suspension and a three-year international ban. All three of them were arrested and sentenced to 30 days in jail.
VIDIC SEES RED FOR THE 3RD TIME
2009
On 25 October 2009, Manchester United center back Nemanja Vidić received a 90th-minute red card against Liverpool--his third ejection in three consecutive games against the Reds. In both of the teams' meetings the previous season, Vidić failed to make it to the final whistle and both ended as Liverpool victories. The first, at Anfield in September 2008, saw the defender receive a second yellow card in the 90th minute as the Reds edged to a 2-1 win. In the return fixture in March, he drew a straight red for a 76th-minute foul on Steven Gerrard, who had gotten through on a clear goalscoring opportunity. Liverpool won 1-4. Things got no better for Vidić in the next meeting. Playing at Anfield, Fernando Torres put the hosts up 1-0 in the 65th minute after fending off pressure from Rio Ferdinand and driving the ball over Edwin Van der Sar into the roof of the net. Ten minutes later, Vidić earned his first yellow card of the day. His second came in the 90th minute. With Dirk Kuyt about to blow past him to latch onto a deep ball, the Serbian defender delivered a flying challenge that stopped Kuyt cold. Referee Andre Marriner then produced a yellow and a red card in quick succession. (It was the first of two reds on the day, as Javier Mascherano joined Vidić with a stoppage-time exit.) And David N'Gog's strike in the sixth minute of stoppage time sealed the 2-0 win for Liverpool.

particular section of Mitchell Shackleton Football Club was founded in October 1969 by a group of employees working for Mitchell, Shackleton and Company Limited, a well established engineering company based in Patricroft, Eccles, which manufactures marine and diesel crankshafts. The founding members of Mitchell Shackleton Football Club were Bob Cowlishaw (Chairman), Bill Russell (Secretary) and Charlie Flynn (Treasurer, who served the Club also served as Secretary with distinction from 1981 until his death in 1994). They were ably supported by a Committee comprising of Alf Johnson (now Club President), Ged Moore (Kit Manager) and Stan Catlin (Team Manager). Although the Cub has been in existence for over 30 years, Mitchell Shackleton FC can trace teams playing under the Company's banner as far back as 1935. Mitchell Shackleton FC entered the Eccles and District Amateur Football League in 1970 where the Club established itself without winning any major honours. After a two -year association with the Eccles League, the Club sought pastures new by joining the Manchester Amateur League in season 1972-73. It was in the Manchester Amateur League that the Club's reputation began to grow, winning the Third Division (1973-74) and Second Division (1974-75) Championships in successive seasons, and in 1975 a reserve team was formed. During this period, a re-structuring of the League saw Mitchells competing in the Industrial 'B' Division, in which the Club were runners-up in 1979-80. In season 1983-84, Mitchells finished Industrial 'A' Division runners-up, but ended the season on a high by winning the Gosling Cup. In 1993, Mitchells reached the Gilgryst Cup Final, only to lose out to Woodley Sports in the Final. Since this time, the Club has been working tirelessly to bring the Club into the North West Counties, the highest standard that the Club has seen. Manager Gary Fellows left the Club to take up the position of manager at Salford City FC, and after a season with manager Arthur Burns, who worked miracles with a threadbare side, including winning the Manchester Challenge Trophy, the mantle passed onto Dave Mann to continue the building of a new side for the following season. Despite Irlam's lowest finish to a campaign in its six seasons in the NWCFL a decent finish to the season provides the Club with an optimistic outlook for 2013/2014. Season 2014/15 was a learning curve for the new management team as the season presented plenty of positives from probably the youngest squad in the league. A large pool of players competing in the 1st Division, Res Division and North West Youth Alliance league really put the accent on youth at the Club. Notable highlights for the 1st team was a final appearance in the Manchester FA Premier Cup, along with a mid table finish in Div One. The Reserves had a season of success, finishing 4th in the Res Division as well as winning the Reserve Div Trophy against Glossop as well as runners up in the Reserve Div Cup final against Darwen. With management team Steve Nixon and Chris Boardman once more at the helm for 2014/2015, it is hoped that the talented young players at Irlam will really push on this season.
LAST TIME OUT
NEWCASTLE BENFIELD 3 IRLAM 1 SATURDAY 23 OCOTBER 2016 / SAM SMITHS PARK / FA VASE ROUND 1 The game attracted a good crowd despite the fact Newcastle United, West Allotment and Team Northumbria were all at home, not to mention full 90 minutes commentary from Live Sports FM, with Allan Young doing a sterling job as summariser, and being the chosen game for Radio Newcastle’s Barry Hindson. All such decisions were vindicated early on by the express start that saw Irlam keeper make a breath-taking save low to his right in the second minute from Paul Brayson’s deft header from Liam Hudson’s peach of a cross. Immediately play swung to the other end, requiring Andrew Grainger to make a flying save from Matthew Boland to keep the scores level. The following corner was smuggled away by Moussa Bakhti, who set Brayson free with a probing pass to the left edge of the area. Brayson turned the defence inside out with a body swerve and fired home from a tight angle, with White utterly bamboozled and rooted to the spot; 1-0 to the Con Army. It could have been 2-0 seconds later as Matty Cornish floated a ball to the back post for Liam Hudson to head on, only for a desperate clearance from the line to deny the ever-improving attacker.

Following this whirlwind start, the pace slackened and the visitors enjoyed possession, partly because Benfield’s passing game was misfiring. That said, Grainger was never actually called into action. From absolutely nowhere, it was 2-0 after 25 minutes, when Cornish fed Brayson, who skipped round the keeper and saw his effort cleared by a retreating defender. Sadly for Irlam, the ball fell kindly for Hudson who made no mistake from inside the six yard box. The scoreline undoubtedly flattered Benfield, but in cup competitions there is no sentiment.
The game began to flow both ways; Dylan McEvoy’s brilliant low cross was deflected inches wide Irlam’s Rick Peters, while Jordan Icely shot weakly wide after being set up by Edlaine Xavier. Consequently, the half time score was 2-0 to Benfield and it seemed as if both sides had settled for this, as the opening minutes of the second period were without incident. On the hour a typical no-nonsense ball by Man of the Match Steven Tobin set Hudson in on goal, but White blocked with his legs. Hudson left the pitch soon after to be replaced by the returning Scott McCarthy, who had been out of action since the 3-1 win away to RCA in mid-September. He almost scored with his first touch, when a Baptiste through ball saw him in on goal, but a desperate last-ditch tackle saw the ball squirt wide.
Benfield went 3-0 ahead when Tom McNamee intercepted a poor Irlam corner and sent Paul Brayson away. Some poor defending saw him skirt round the keeper unchallenged and roll the ball home for his 23rd goal of the season. Irlam then seemed to collapse; Cornish and then McCarthy were both denied by heroic work by White. However, the Mancunians were able to celebrate a late consolation when Ryan Ledson bundled a loose ball home for the scrappiest of goals in the last few minutes.
OPPOSITION WATCH Mark Ashmore tells us which players he think will be a danger for Gate tonight. His picks include Lee White who played a massive part for our visitors in the two cup meetings last season. He’s been on top form as well this season keeping 5 clean sheets. Matthew Boland also is a man to watch, the ex Atherton Collieries and Salford City man can be a threat down either side. Christian Lawlor is Irlam’s top goal scorer this season with 9 goals in 17 games.
LEE WHITE White was in fine form when we met Irlam last season in both our cup games.
MATTHEW BOLAND The former Atherton Colls and Salford City winger will be a threat and can play down either side.
He's kept five clean sheets so He’s scored 6 goals in 17 games picking up 3 man of far this season in 20 games. the match awards.
Steve has been at Irlam since 2013 and he lead them to promotion from the NWCFL First Division last Year and this year looking to have a good start to there new Divison. Steve we knows gate well from when we played them in FA Vase last season. Steve has improve his team this year and hope the new player can help them to at least mid table finished.
CHRISTIAN LAWLOR Irlam's top goal scorer so far this season with nine goals in 17 games. Lawlor will no doubt be a threat that Gate will need to look out for in the final third.

JOE NOBLET
In our new regular feature, we ask Squires Gate players 20 questions about football and life in general. This week, we have Joe Noblet who has played in the FA County Youth Cup final at Portman Road. He also appeared on ITV’s Take Me Out at the start of series 8 and Runcorn Linnets fans didn’t let him forget this when we visited there last season. He also tells us which 4 Premier League legends he would love to play alongside in a 5 a side team. Joe spent the start on trial at Bradford Park Avenue before rejoining Squires Gate Who was your football hero growing up? Alan Smith at Leeds United. Don't know why, don't know how. But he was my absolute hero.
If you could play in a 5 a side team with 4 PL legends. Who would they be? Me, Thierry Henry, Frank Lampard, Duncan Ferguson and Jaap Stam
Best moment of your life so far? Scoring for England Colleges u19's against Panama
What be your last ever meal on earth? Chicken strips with garlic mayo. My weak link.
Whose name did you have on the back of your as a kid? I wanted "Noblet" but they wouldn't allow it due to being explicit.. so Mikel Arteta
Biggest career influence? If you could change a rule in football what will it be ?
Definitely Frank Lampard, watched about 7 days worth of his YouTube clips.
Make it roll on roll off subs.. put me on for free kicks and penalties.
Instagram or twitter? Favourite football ground that you’ve been to or played football at ?
Ipswich Town, Portman Road winning the FA County Youth Cup in 2014.
Favourite Three tracks? Shaggy - Angel Five - Keep On Movin, Courteeners - Are you in love with a notion
Best chant you've heard at a match? Defending a corner away at Runcorn Linnets to their fans shouting "NO LIKEYYYY NO LIGHTYYY" for about 10 minutes.
Who has been the toughest opponent been this year? Maine Road. Didn't help that we played awful, but they were the strongest so far.
Would you rather win the World Cup or Champions League? World Cup 2020 when I am captain in Qatar.
If you could play anywhere but your position, where would it be? Right back, doing Rico’s job. Easy.
WE’VE MET BEFORE? SQUIRES GATE 2 IRLAM 2 Saturday 5th September 2015 Gate made a good start to the first half and had several chances to open the scoring. The home sides best chance of the half came when Cummings found himself in space in the 6 yard box but he scuffed his sitter straight into the keepers arms. Gate looked dominant from corners and had successive chances denied. Captain Penswick and Westwood both denied by good saves from the set pieces. The opening goal of the game came from the visitors. Striker Gareth Mooney opening the scoring on the 24th minute. The first half had no other chances of note with neither side looking likely to add to the scoreline. Dave McCann took his side in at half time and words were clearly exchanged as just 4 minutes into the second half Gate equalised. Ash Rowley finding space on the edge of the box and when the loose ball came to his feet he made no mistake and fired low under the keeper. The equaliser seemed to perk the home side up after a flat first half Gate began to attack with more intensity. The home sides job was made even harder when just 20 minutes into the second half midfield Higgins, making his second start for the club, was harshly shown a red card after a strong challenge to win the ball. Josh Kay was next to attack Irlam as he set off from his own half but after beating countless men on his own and reaching the edge of the box his shot couldn’t match the build up play and the ball bobbled wide. It was Kay again with another chance for the home side this time on the left hand side, but this time his shot bobbled up in from of the keeper, but much to the relief of the away side the keeper reacted quickest to scoop the ball up. Despite both side trying there hardest the game would finish 1-1 and as it’s a Vase competion, extra time would be played. So into extra time it was. The first half didn’t start well for Gate as Irlam would take advantage of the extra man and take the lead. Jacques Kpohogmou the man to put Irlam in front. The defender rising highest from the corner to beat Fletcher who had been in fine form. Apart from the goal the first half of extra time was fairly uneventful. In a bid to bring the game back in Gates favour McCann made a double substitution and lined up very attacking for the second half. The second half would belong to Gate who showed great spirit and determination to keep fighting for every ball in a bid to find an equalising goal. When other teams would have rolled over and died Gate kept going all the way to the end and ould find an equaliser with one of the last touches of the game. Substitute Mark Buchan firing in the equaliser with minutes to go to score his first of the season and send Gate to a reply on Tuesday night
IRLAM 1 SQUIRES GATE 3 Tuesday 8th September 2015 Ash Rowley was unlucky not to open the scoring for Gate after 7 minutes. A good run from McKenna down the right hand side and his ball in found Rowley but his shot was deflected out for a corner. the resulting corner for Gate was headed over the bar by Westwood. It would be Irlam who would open the scoring though, a brilliant ball down the left was eventually crossed in. Three Irlam players were waiting in the box with one of them stepping forward to slot the ball past Fletcher. The lively Rowley had the chance to level things up for Gate when the ball was ruled back to him on the edge of the box but his shot went over the bar. Irlam had the next chance this time straight from the goal kick. There ball going over the defences heads but Irlams striker put the ball wide. Gate had a penalty shout after 35 minutes when Ash Rowley was cleared out in the box by the keeper but the ref felt the ball was won much to the surprise of the players on the pitch. Gate would keep the pressure on the home side and equal up the game after 38 minutes. the free kick fired onto Westwood’s head who knocked the ball over to the waiting Cummings. He stretched to poke Gate level. Gate had the chance to make it two with two minutes left but Mckenna’s header was cleared off the line. Gate started the second half like they’d ended the first. Richards with the free kick after a good run from McKenna but the set piece was saved. McKenna was again involved, the ball played over to him and with the defender missing the header, his follow up shot just clipped the post. Gate took the lead on 67 minutes after Mckennas cross was sliced into his own net by the unfortunate defender. Gate would make it two soon after, Ash Rowley closing down the back past to the defender and the keeper bought Rowley down with a penalty being awarded. Mark Buchan stepped up and coolly slotted past the keeper to score his second in two games and put Gate 3 -1 up. The home side had a chance with 6 minutes left but Fletcher kept Gate in the game. Sub Clarke almost had the chance to open his account for the club after good work from Buchan but his shot was tame and the defender cleared the ball. Westwood made a good run from the back and almost found the net after a good exchange of passing with Nathan Trout but Westwood's shot went wide. Gate went on to see the game out and record there first victory of the season.

LAST SEASON
BOOTLE 5 SQUIRES GATE 1 The home side lined up with a young energetic looking side and didn’t take long to get into the game. It took them just 5 minutes to find a way though Gates backline and open the scoring. Josh Hamilton finding his way into the box unmarked to finish well past Fletcher. Bootle looked lively and were first to most lose balls and kept looking to launch a quick attack each time they got the ball. Gates first real chance came down the right hand side with Mckenna his run was found by Penswick but Mckenna’s cross was cleared at the near post. Josh Kay had a chance shortly after when he was found in the middle of the six-yard box but his volley was straight at the keepers chest who did well to quickly clear the ball. Josh Westwood was the next to take aim but like Kay previously his volley was blocked this time by the face of his own player Mark Buchan. Bootle made it two when a long ball over the top caught Gates defence out and Peterson made it two. The homeside looked ever confident with a two-goal lead and made it three after 42 minutes. The ball bobbled up onto the hand of Alex Colquhoun who was judged to have deliberately handled the ball Hamilton converting from the spot to make it three before half time. Gates first chance of the second half came from manager Danny Penswick. He lined up the free kick perfectly but the home keeper did magnificently to save the shot. Gate pulled a goal back after Ash Rowley spotted the home keeper of his line. He lined up the shot from out side the box and with the goalkeeper on the floor from Buchan’s challenge, the ball bounced over the line and in. Gate tried to attack the home side but couldn’t find the fluidity they had on Wednesday night and struggled to add to the one goal they had. Bootle were ruthless in Gates box and made it 4 on 73 minutes. Right back Ste Rothwell somehow found himself inside the box to fire to Fletcher’s left and score. Unfortunately that would be the defender’s last act as a couple of minutes later he would dislocate his knee. Substitue Dom Marie rounded off the scoring for the game a couple of minutes later when his fresh legs burst past Gates tiring defence to make it 5-1 and game over.
