Saturday 31st March 2018 // Brantingham Road Stadium // Attendance:65 The homeside came into this game with just one win in their last nine games but started well forcing Ben Fletcher to punch clear from an early Corner. Gates only chance early in the game came when in form striker Gary Pett looked to test the keeper with a quick turn and shot, but his effort fell well wide of the goal. The Manchester side who sat 20th in the league coming into this one could have taken the lead after 11 minutes. Alex Colquhoun losing out on the edge of the box but Ben Fletcher was there to save Coop’s low drive across goal. Gate themselves should have opened the scoring with the best chance of the game. Young winger Isaac Sinclair playing a lovely ball into the back post to find the run of Ryan Riley at the back post but he couldn’t direct his header towards goal. Sinclair himself had a similar chance from the same area soon after but again he couldn’t test the keeper. Scott Harries showing good determination to win the ball back before finding Sinclair at the back post but he head over. Maine Road thought they took the lead after half an hour when Jack Coop headed in, but the linesman saved Gate with the offside flag.
Half Time: Maine Road 0-0 Squires Gate
The game was dominated with both free kicks and corners and it was Gate who had a great chance to go ahead from a corner. Isaac Sinclair picking the ball up from a knock down from the corner beat three Maine Road players on the edge of the box but he couldn’t beat a fourth and the ball was cleared. Soon after Gate opened the scoring after several times of asking. Gary Pett flicking the ball onto Scott Harries after winning the ball in the air, Harries bust into the box then returned the ball to Pett who fired low past the keeper. The homeside though wouldn’t be lose faith going behind and equalised 10 minute later. A long throw into the box wasn’t cleared and was eventually headed past Fletcher by sub Ben Davison. Gate then had Ben Fletcher to thank with five minutes of the game left when he did well to save one on one with his feet. Gate could have won the game even nearer full time through Scott Harries. A long throw into the box was headed onto the Gate captain at the back post, but he couldn’t stretch to meet the ball.
NWCFL NEWS Rain did its best to affect the fixture card, but in the end 14 games went ahead on Friday and Saturday, with the outcomes having an impact at the top and bottom of both divisions. In the Premier Division, Runcorn Linnets continued to set the pace at the top, with a 5-0 win at Maine Road. Danny O'Brien's 9th successfully converted penalty of the season put them ahead at the break, Paul Shanley added a second eight minutes after the restart, and two Freddie Potter goals and one from Adam Jones in the final eight minutes rounded off a good win. Linnets' lead at the top stays at ten points, ahead of Widnes in second place, who won 2-0 at the Select Security Stadium against AFC Liverpool. First half goals from Michael Grogan and Jack Banister sealed the points for the home side, who are now six points ahead of Hanley Town in third place. City of Liverpool continued their recent good form and moved into sixth place thanks to a 3-2 win at home to Burscough on Friday night. Luke Denson struck an 81st minute winner for the Purps, after goals from David Forbes and Jack Hazlehurst had been cancelled out by two from Burscough's Chad Whyte. 1874 Northwich continued to work their way through their backlog of games, with a 3-0 win at Irlam. After a goalless first half, two goals in two minutes from leading scorer Scott McGowan put 1874 in the driving seat, and Sam Freakes added a third with 16 minutes remaining. 1874's landlords Winsford United lost 3-2 at home to Northwich Victoria in the derby clash at the St Luke's Barton Stadium. Goals from Brian Matthews and George Hassall had Vics two up at the break, then Callum Gardner reduced the arrears with a 66th minute penalty, his sixth of the season. Oscar Durnin then restored Vics' two advantage before Declan Daniels set up an exciting finale with a second goal for Winsford three minutes from time, but Vics held on to secure the points. Abbey Hey remain in relegation trouble after losing 2-1 at home to West Didsbury & Chorlton on Friday night. The night began well for Abbey when Peter Boyle gave them a 6th minute lead, but Ben Steer equalised before half time and Matthew Eckersley struck the winner for West 20 minutes from time. In the other game played on Friday night, Ashton Athletic rescued a point from a 2-2 draw at already relegated Barnton, thanks to two goals from Matthew Reid, the second of which was in the 90th minute. Litherland REMYCA and Silsden AFC continued their march at the top of the Division One table, with both winning their respective games at the weekend. REMYCA stay a point ahead of the Cobbydalers courtesy of their 2-0 home win over Abbey Hulton United, with Paul Foy and Connor Murphy on target in the space of eight second minutes. Silsden's 4-0 win over New Mills at the Cobbydale Construction Stadium was pretty much in the bag by half time, with two goals from Chris Wademan and one from Arley Barnes putting them three up, and Aidan Kirby added a fourth seven minutes from time. Whitchurch Alport lost ground on the top two after going down 4-3 in a ding-dong affair at Holker Old Boys. By the 55th minute goals from Gareth Smith, James Bonner and Nathan Reid had Holker three up, but an Alport revival then began, with two goals from Lee Pickerill and one from Michael Blundell bringing them level with ten minutes remaining. However, there was one final twist in the tale with Craig Redhead's 85th minute winner pinching the points for Holker, a victory that moves them to within four points of a play off place. Alsager Town occupy the final play off place, but they fell to a surprise defeat at Nelson, the Admirals recording only their third home league win of the season. An early Nelson goal from Jamie Wynne was cancelled out by Alsager's Ryan Goodwin, but second half goals from Daniel Mort and a second from Jamie Wynne sealed victory for the home side. Nelson's win moved them four points clear of Daisy Hill at the bottom of the table, but they failed to gain ground on the two teams above them with Bacup Borough and St Helens Town both winning. Bacup Borough's 5-2 home win over Stockport Town was their biggest of the season, two late goals from Joshua Walne making the points safe, and Jake Young, Shaun Brady and Hal McHugh were on target in St Helens Town's 3-0 win at home to Atherton LR. In the other game, a 43rd minute goal from Lee Hoolickin earned Carlisle City a 1-0 win at home to Eccleshall. MACTH PREVIEW WITH MARK ASHMORE Gate return Blackpool to face Northwich Victoria, Gate are looking to make it six games unbeaten... Last time out Gate extended their winning run to five games two weeks ago with a 1-1 draw away at Maine Road. It was a tough old slog for Andy Clarkson's men against an extremely organised Maine Road side. The homeside could have taken the lead after 11 minutes when Alex Colquhoun lost possession on the edge of Gate's box, luckily for Gate Ben Fletcher was alert to push the shot wide across goal. Ryan Riley had Gate's best chance of the first half but he couldn't direct his header at the back post towards goal. Gate would finally make the breakthrough in the 70th minute through top goal scorer Gal Pett. Pett set Gate on their way when he headed Ben Fletcher's goal kick onto Scott Harries, Harries burst into the box before returning the ball to Pett who fired low underneath the keeper. The homeside though wouldn’t be lose faith going behind and equalised 10 minute later. A long throw into the box wasn’t cleared and was eventually headed past Fletcher by sub Ben Davison. The Away Team Northwich Victoria come into this game 11th in the league having won three of their last six games. This season they've won fourteen of their thirty three games, losing fifteen and drawing four game. Northwich Victoria's last game saw pick up a hard fought victory against Winsford on Saturday. Vics' opened the scoring after just nine minutes through top goal scorer Brian Matthews before fellow striker George Hassall doubled their lead in the 41st minute. The homeside would reply in the second half with a goal from the spot from Callum Gardner before Vics sub Oscar Drunin regained Vics two goal advantage. Declan Daniels pulled another goal back for Winsford but it came too late in the 87th minute. The form table for Northwich Victoria looks like WLLWWD placing them 8th in the form table. The wins came against previously mentioned Winsford United aswell as AFC Darwen and Maine Road, the two losses came against Irlam and Burscough with the draw coming against Cheadle Town in the Macron Cup. Head to Head This will be the first time the two sides have met for a long time with The Vics having played at a much higher level in their long history. Northwich joined the league this season after relegation from the Northern Premier League South. THE BOSS
STEVE WILKS Steve has lots of Experience not only in this but league above as well, he recently been at Padiham but after all his hard work with the club he was sacked however
that want let him as with all his experience Northwich Vics took him on to lead them to susses.
Steve and Gate Manager knows each other very well and they both will know each other team will not a easy ride and they will need to make their team give 100% in order for them to get anything out off todays game. Steve team come into todays after a losing away to 1874 Northwich on Tuesday.
BREIF HISTORY .Northwich Victoria were formed in 1874 and named in honour of the reigning monarch, Queen Victoria. The following year the club established themselves at the Drill Field, so named, as it was the former Drilling Ground of the 22nd Company of the 3rd battalion of the Cheshire Rifle Volunteers. Vics' initially played only friendly matches but graduated to a loose association of clubs called the Combination. A giant step forward was taken in 1892 when Northwich became founder members of the 2nd division of the Football League. Two seasons were spent in the league but the financial burden of professionalism saw the club resigning league status at the end of the second year. During Vics' final season in the league, they acquired the services of the legendary Billy Meredith, the peerless Welsh wizard of the wing. The club returned to the Combination until 1898 when it joined the newly formed Cheshire League where it stayed for two years. A spell in the Manchester league followed before the club became members of the Lancashire Combination in 1912/13. Organised football came to a halt at the outbreak of the Great War but when hostilities ceased, the Vics' joined the newly formed Cheshire League. Although a top ranking club, the title was captured just once in a memorable 1956/57 campaign. Vics' again became founder members of a new league when they accepted an invitation from the Northern Premier League in 1968, remaining there until they signalled their ambition by joining the new Nationwide Alliance Premier League in 1979. Last season was the club’s 25th continuous season among the elite of non-league football. Before joining the national elite however, Vics' name had been on the tips of the nation’s tongues following the remarkable FA Cup run in 1976/77. The team defeating three football league sides en route to the fourth round – Rochdale, Peterborough and Watford (the latter being watched by a crowd of 8,989 at the Drill Field including at that time their chairman Sir Elton John), before finally bowing out to Oldham Athletic in a game seen by nearly 30,000 at Maine Road. In 1982/83 the Club reached its finest hour when they won through to the final of the FA Trophy but lost 2-1 to Telford United at Wembley. The Vics' faithful had only to wait twelve months before returning to the twin towers, where they drew 1-1 with Bangor City. To the delight of their fans the Greens won the replay 2-1 at Stoke’s aptly named Victoria Ground. After a short spell in the doldrums the 1990's saw Vics' begin to reassert themselves as a leading force in semi-professional football. Most notably, when defeating Martin O’Neill’s Wycombe Wanderers on their home turf in April 1993 to lift the Drinkwise Cup. In 1995/96 Vics' continued their progress, recording a best finish of eighth in the league and another trip to Wembley in the FA Trophy, a fantastic achievement considering they were drawn away from home in each round. Alas, it was not a successful one as Cheshire rivals Macclesfield Town proved too strong on the day, winning 3-1. Five years on, Vics' sampled further FA Cup glory under the management of Keith Alexander. The club claimed their first league scalp for 17 years defeating Bury at the Drill Field in a first round replay, before turning a 2-0 deficit against Leyton Orient into a 3-2 lead before a late equaliser earned the Londoners a replay at Brisbane Road, a game which they in turn won 3-2 after extra time having trailed the Vics' 2-0, a thrilling match screened live on Sky TV. When Alexander was offered the post of Director of Coaching at Lincoln City in the summer of 2001, he was replaced for two seasons at Northwich by former Northern Ireland international Jimmy Quinn. After Quinn departed for Shrewsbury Town, Vic’s unsuccessfully suffered three more managers before finishing bottom of the Conference in 2003/04, only to survive relegation on ground technicalities at other clubs. Following the sale of the famous Drill Field ground, Vics' undertook ground sharing with neighbours Witton Albion which lasted a further 3 seasons. In September 2004 the club went into administration and suffered a 10 point deduction. However, against all the odds current manager Steve Burr and his team produced some fantastic performances, eventually finishing outside the bottom three, culminating in the team being voted “Non-League club of the year” by the Non-League paper. However due to a technicality in the club administration Vics suffered their first relegation since the foundation of the conference league & started the 2005/2006 season in the conference north. The club under the ownership of Mike Connett commenced the season at the newly built Victoria Stadium & their form matched their superb new facilities as they went fifteen games undefeated before emphasis shifted to a tremendous F.A Cup run. After victories against Frickley , North Ferriby , Barrow , Morecambe & Woking the run culminated in the Vics' playing their first ever game against a premiership side, and a great day out against Sunderland at the Stadium Of Light in front of 19,323 fans & cheered on by
over 3,500 Vics' supporters, the team produced a battling display, finally loosing the game 3-0.
VIEW FROM AWAY END
JAIME DEWSBURY
This week we interviewed life long Northwich Victoria, Jamie Dewsbury to found what he was expectations was for the new season. We also found out why he would think this season would be different and his most memorable game he seen at Northwich vics What are your expectations for the new season after last season relegation from the league above? To consolidate and stay in the league. Manager Steve Wilkes has done a good job since taking over. We are now relatively safe in mid-table after being in the bottom four in late September when he took over.
This season will been different to last because? Because it's a new era for the Club with it now being run solely by volunteers and playing IN Northwich at a cost that we can afford
If you were manager of a 5 a side team and had to 2 Northwich Victoria players and 3 BPL legends. Who would be in your side and why? 5 a side team. Schemeichel in goal - best keeper ever, just his sheer presence put off even the best of strikers. Thierry Henry & Eric Cantona as attackers. Henry best prem player ever, pace frightening -and scorer of the most brilliant of goals. Eric Cantona - he was just a genius. Talent & skill level outrageous. I'd have Vics' central defender Allan Weston in defence. Rugged, no-nonsense defender. And a real leader of men. Matty Clarke would be in midfield. A terrier-like tackler, and likes to arrive late in the box with a goal or two. Decent 5 a side team that!
What has been your most memorable moment of all time What grounds are you looking forward to visiting this seaat Northwich Victoria? son? Winning the FA Trophy in 1984 defeating Bangor City 2-1 at Stoke City after a draw at Wembley stadium. We made the final in 1983 as well. Unfortunately we lost 2-1 to Telford United that year. I attended both games
What teams are you looking forward to going up against this season? Both Runcorn Clubs, also Squires Gate. Mainly because i love Blackpool!
If you could change one thing about your club what would it be and why? I don't think I'd change anything. Perhaps revert back to a brighter green kit as in past years gone by. Are you reading this, Mr.Chairman!?
Which players from Gate do you secretly admire? Scott Harries. Good winger, likes a dribble and scores goals. Used to play for us If you could sign 3 Premier League players on a free transfer, who would you sign and why? Aguero. Simply the best striker in The BPL now, and the last few years. Terrific movement and ruthless finisher. Eric Bailly - looks a complete defender. No-nonsense but can also play the ball out elegantly. David De Gea. Best keeper' in the world and guarantees
All nwcfl grounds I'm looking forward to visiting as nearly all of them are my first visits. Our first campaign at this level.
Your most Northwich Victoria underrated player is? Left-back Dan Johnson. Good reader of the game, good tackler and sets a few goals up with his left-wing raids too
Gate should keep eye out on what player from Northwich Victoria? Brian Matthews. 24 goals already this season, scores left foot, right foot. Great header of a ball too even though hes not the tallest. Deceptively strong, too. Scored a lot of goals at a higher level too. Evostik league.
Prediction for today game? Squire's Gate 1-2 Vics'.

Saturday 7th April 2018/ St Luke’s Barnton Stadium /Attendance: 174 The game began with both sides' testing each other out with them both looking rusty after both not having played much football recently due to the bad weather. The games first chance fell to Vics' back-marker Brandon Barski on 11' who wastefully headed over the cross -bar unmarked from six yards out following an excellent corner-kick delivery by Dan Johnson. On 16' Vics' hit-man Bri Matthews' low raking shot from 18 yards was saved well by the keeper after Adam Robinson teed him up. Blues responded on 21' through Callum Gardners' twenty-yard free-kick which Vics' glove-man Donlon parried low down round the post. Vics' took the lead on the half-hour; Brian Matthews nodded Vics' into the lead from short range via the inside of the post and luckless Blues' keeper' Ben Chapman's outstretched arms after Adam Robinson had crossed beautifully into the far post area. George Hassall doubled the lead when he rounded keeper' Chapman and rolled the ball into an empty net from 8 yards after latching onto Adam Robinson's slide-rule pass following an Adam Lawrence' long through -ball on 42'. Influential Adam Robinson battled through to half-time after being subjected to a crude tackle but had to be taken to hospital during the interval via ambulance with an horrific gash to his leg. HALF-TIME - Winsford 0-2 Vics'. Winsford came out more determined in the second half, Declan Daniels stung Mike Donlon's fingers with a rasping drive from the edge of the area after slick work by fellow front-man Mike Koral on 52'. Blues' did halve the arrears though via a penalty scored by Callam Gardner on 66'. Vics' defender Brandon Barski had 01 BEN CHAPMAN 01 MICHEAL DONLON clipped Mike Koral's heels just inside the area. Vics' keeper' Donlon managed to get his fingertips to the 02 JASON FOWLES 02 MATTHEW CLARKE well-struck free hit but the ball crept in just inside the 03 DEAN CLARKE 03 DANIEL JOHNSON post. 04 RYAN HOPPER 04 ADAM LAWRENCE Vics' sub' Oscar Durnin made sure of the points on 73' 05 LEE DUCKWORTH 05 BRANDON BARSKI when he beat the offside trap racing onto game-star 06 WILLIAM FOSTER 06 ALLEN WESTON Liam Bickett's cushioned pass and finished emphatical07 RYAN STEELE 07 ADAM ROBINSON ly past Ben Chapman with the inside of his right foot on an angle from 13 yards. THIS WEEK IN FOOTBALL HISTORY We take a look back at the history of football as it happens week by week.
(Un) Welcome Home, Wales
2000
On 29 March 2000, Wales played their first match at the new Millenium Stadium in Cardiff. And lost 1-2.
Built on the site of the old national ground, Cardiff Arms Park, construction on the stadium finished in the summer of 1999 at a total cost of £121 million. The Welsh rugby team hosted the first major event there, beating South Africa in a friendly. The football team's turn came the following spring, as they hosted Finland in a friendly of their own. A crowd of 65,000 showed up for the event, setting a new national team record (though it has since been broken). Unfortunately for the home fans, however, Finnish midfielder Jari Litmanen (pictured, battling Wales' Robbie Savage) scored the opening goal in the 21st minute. Welsh striker Nathan Blake found the back of the net in the 42nd minute, but it was the wrong net, putting the Finns up 0-2. Ryan Giggs pulled one back in the 60th minute, but that was the last goal of the day and Finland left as 1-2 winners.
C'était Une Affaire Française
2010
On 30 March 2010, Lyon and Bordeaux met for the first all-French contest in the Champions League, with Lyon emerging as 3-1 winners. Bordeaux, the reigning Ligue 1 champions, were again at the top of the table, four spots above Lyon, and had beaten them in the league back in December. The Girondins had also gotten off to a flying start in the Champions League, winning six of their first seven matches to reach the quarterfinals (the other was a 1-1 draw with Juventus in the group stage). There, they met Lyon, who had just eliminated Real Madrid in the Round of 16. The teams' meeting at Lyon's Stade Gerland was a first, as French teams had met five times previously in UEFA competitions, but never before in the Champions League. Lyon marked the occasion by taking a 10th-minute lead with a goal from striker Lisandro López (pictured). Not to be outdone, Bordeaux forward Marouane Chamakh drew the visitors level four minutes later. Lyon regained the lead in the 32nd minute with a goal from Michel Bastos, then sealed the win with a 77th-minute penalty kick from López. That final goal proved to be crucial, as Bordeaux won the second leg 1-0, but lost 3-2 on aggregate.
Scoring With A Leg To Spare
On 31 March 2010, Arsenal captain Cesc Fàbregas scored the equalizing goal against Barcelona in the Champions League quarterfinal. And he did it with a broken leg. Fàbregas, who joined Arsenal in 2003 after five years at Barcelona's youth academy, had been the subject of longstanding transfer rumors linking him with a return to his former club, adding a lot of spice to the match-up. Barcelona, as the reigning champions, were heavy favorites, but the Gunners managed to hold them to a scoreless draw until the break. Less than one minute after the restart, however, a long pass went over the Arsenal backline to a racing Zlatan Ibrahimović, who beat keeper Manuel Almunia with a lobbed ball to the far post. He then doubled the lead in the 59th minute, after another overhead ball left him one-on-one with Almunia. But Arsenal midfielder Theo Walcott narrowed the gap ten minutes later with a precise finish. As Arsenal pushed forward for an equalizer, Barça's Carles Puyol fouled Fàbregas in the box in the 85th minute. Fàbregas stepped up to the spot and converted the ensuing penalty, then immediately afterward started limping. It appeared that he pulled a muscle, but scans later revealed that Puyol's foul had resulted in a small fracture in his right fibula. The injury forced Fàbregas to miss the return leg, which Barcelona won 4-1. He remained with Arsenal for one more season, then transferred to Barça in August 2011 for £29 million. He left Barcelona in 2014 for Chelsea, his current club.

ASHTON ATHLETIC 14.04.18 WHO’S IN CHARGE? Jay Folds and Dougie Pitts
GROUND? Brocstedes Park Postcode: WN4 0NR
LAST TIME OUT?
ASHTON ATHLETIC 2 SQUIRES GATE 1 Gate started this game superbly and looked to have adjusted well to Penswick's tactical switch of three up front. They opened the scoring after two minutes when Joe Noblet reacted quickest when keeper Martin Pearson dropped Tarren Moxon's cross into the box. Noblet made no mistake in firing the ball into the roof of the net to give Gate the lead. Ashton would equalise in some style 15 minutes later with a well worked goal. The ball was played low into the back post where the Ashton striker back heeled the ball past Griffith into the bottom corner. Gates overall performance on the pitch was very encouraging in the first half reacting well to going behind and still trying to carve out chances for the front three. First Max Rothwell took aim from outside the box but fired wide before Joe Noblet tried to grave another goal, but also fired wide. As the first half came to a close Ashton had a couple of chances to give them hope for the second half. First Ashton broke forward and fired wide from the right hand side. Then after Pearson in the Ashton net punched clear before Alexander could head from a corner, Ashton had three successive corners all defended well by Gate. Compared to the first half, the second half was completely different for Gate. The phrase 'game of two halves' has never been so appropriate for Gate. Ashton would take the lead after 69 minutes. After a shaky start for Gate Ashton struck with two passes and a clever finish. Tarren Moxon gave the ball away up front trying to play in Jordan Casey, Ashton broke forward down the right and crossed the ball low into the box to find a spare man at the back post to fire past Griffith. The second half started to fizzle out for Gate who didn't really get back into the game until the last 10 minutes. Late chances from free kicks and corners couldn't be converted. Corey Moorhead specifically did well to stretch to keep in a late corner but Gate couldn't capitalise from the follow up.
