THE BOSS ANDY CLARKSON “Our performances of late haven't been to the standard

that I expect I'm hoping with lads coming back from injuries and new lads coming in we can get back to the free flowing football that we produced earlier in the season I would like to welcome the players , officials and supporters from Northwich Victoria for today's match, Both teams are in a similar league position and are trying to push up the league with results . Wilksey / Steve and myself go back a long way and are great mates but come 3 pm we will be trying to go for the 3 points , so it should be tasty . Our performances of late haven't been to the standard that I expect I'm hoping with lads coming back from injuries and new lads coming in we can get back to the free flowing football that we produced earlier in the season .

Please get behind our lads today and enjoy the match

Saturday29th September 2018//The Brian Addison Stadium //Attendance:50 Squires Gate suffered a second defeat in a week in there return to league action on Saturday afternoon going down to a late 88th minute winner from West Didsbury & Chorlton.Andy Clarkson welcomed back captain Joe Booth into the side several other experienced players were recalled from Tuesday loss in the Lancashire Trophy. Gate started the game well and could have gone ahead after just two minutes. A lung busting run from Ric Seear created space but his pass to Tarren Moxon was blazed over inside the box. The visitors themselves could have opened the scoring after six minutes but the tricky left winger headed straight at Ben Fletcher in goal. The visitors hit Gate on the break after Joe Booth’s low drive was blocked by the face of a West player, but they could only find Adam Sumner who calmly headed back to Ben Fletcher. Gate came close again when Ryan Riley knocked a lovely cross into Dean Ing but the ball was just too high for the midfielder. Gate’s best chance of the first half fell to stick Seear. The striker looked certain to score the header but was denied with a clearance off the line at the back post.

Half Time: Squires Gate 0-0 West Didsbury & Chorlton

All afternoon Andy Clarkson’s men found themselves just missing that final bit of quality. Ric Seear played in Tarren Moxon at the restart but his ball was too heavy for the striker. On the hour mark Adam Sumner sent in a lovely freekick but Gate again couldn’t test the keeper. Whilst Gate probed and pushed looking for a winner West stood firm not allowing Clarkson’s men any joy. The blow for Gate came two minutes from time when West scored a late winner. A mazy run from midfield wasn’t picked up, the West man fed the ball through to Saul Henderson who made no mistake to fire past Ben Fletcher.

Q&A WITH RIC SEEAR This week we interviewed Gate Player Ric Seear. Ric re-joined gate this season after a spending last season with Kendall and Colne. We caught up with to found out about why he decided to step back down to Our league and we also found out who was her hero and why he start football. We also found he goal tally for the season and just about football in gernal Firstly who encourage you to start to playing football? Family of boys so my dad would take us all from as long as I can remember

After stepping up to league a few season after a great few season in the NWCFL. What made you decide to step to step back down and come back to gate?

If you could manage a 5 a side team made up off 3 BPL players and 2 Gates players who would they be and why? Ozil, Aguero and Hazard. Fletch in net as he doesn't have to come for crosses and Gary Pett will do a job anywhere

If you was could bring any 3 BPL players to Gate who would the be and why?

Money. Nah playing close to home was a big part and after having a chat with Andy Clarkson at the end of the season and the squad that was being put together it was and is an exciting challenge.

Ozil, Aguero and Hazard are the players i enjoy watching most in the Prem.

Have you got a favourite moment for Gate if so what is and Why?

Probably Ruud Van Nistelrooy, pure out and out goalscorer.

I was watching a game a couple of seasons back and watching Magsy run on the pitch to celebrate with the lads when it meant the club were safe from relegation. Just a club legend.

If you could play In any other position on the pitch where would it be and why? To be honest none really, only interesting in going one way and scoring!

Who was your football hero growing up? Do you remember you first ever game as a kids if so what team and who was it against? I remember me and Ben were first at Foxhall. I remember watching a video recording my dad made where he missed Ben's goal as he was busy filming a bus go by fishers field!

Which of your team mate like to play the most joke on the team Put it this way, you don't want to stand next to Rico in the showers.

Gate has have a great start to this season compare to last season do you think they have what if take to challenge for the title this season?

Who is the best joker in the dressing room? Rico constantly on the wind up after a reaction. Who has the worst taste in music?

We definitely have a strong enough team to challenge any team in this league, if we can get everybody fit and get a run going which we are more than capable of then i don't see why we cant challenge the likes of COL, Runcorn Town and Congleton.

Wouldn't say it's the worst but Dean Ing is a closet Greatest Showman fanatic.

Which Gate still in the Vase do you think there any team that could be a challenge for gate and do you feel we can all the way to Wembley?

Would say skipper Boothy, as experienced as he is even now his

There's no reason why we can't go all the way, we've proved we can match teams in higher divisions like Droylsden so that is definitely the aim and with a bit of luck you never know.

I'd say Matty Kay and Adam Sumner but can't really remember as they haven't come out the physio room for a session since pre season.

What Gate player do you feel has what it takes to play in the league above and why?

What is the last thing you do the prepare yourself before you walk out on to the pitch?

Joe Booth. If he hasn't told you already he's played a few divisions higher. But Boothy is quality and an integral part of the team when fit.

Shake hands with every player and manager / staff and try to be as

As everyone knows you can score goals do you have a goal target you like go get each year? If I can keep myself fit I'd be disappointed if i wasn't hitting 25-30 really with the chances we create in this team.

Who is the best to get everybody ready and force on the game? desire not to lose spreads around the team.

Who is the worst trainer?

far back of the line as possible to walk out.

Prediction for today game? 1-0 Ric Seear.

Steve Wilkes Steve took over at Northwich last season and helped them to there 16th Finished however he wants to improve on that this season, Steve has improved his Northwich squad and has made a good start so fair this season. Steve know gate are no walk over as he found out last season where his Northwich team lost 5-0 to Gate. Steve will hope that no that case today but he will know he need 100% from his players and he will hope todays game is very entreating game for all to help

HISTORY OF THE VICS Northwich Victoria were formed in 1874 and named in honour of the reigning monarch, Queen Victoria. The following year the club established themselves at the Drill Field, so named, as it was the former Drilling Ground of the 22nd Company of the 3rd battalion of the Cheshire Rifle Volunteers. Vics' initially played only friendly matches but graduated to a loose association of clubs called the Combination. A giant step forward was taken in 1892 when Northwich became founder members of the 2nd division of the Football League. Two seasons were spent in the league but the financial burden of professionalism saw the club resigning league status at the end of the second year. During Vics' final season in the league, they acquired the services of the legendary Billy Meredith, the peerless Welsh wizard of the wing. The club returned to the Combination until 1898 when it joined the newly formed Cheshire League where it stayed for two years. A spell in the Manchester league followed before the club became members of the Lancashire Combination in 1912/13. Organised football came to a halt at the outbreak of the Great War but when hostilities ceased, the Vics' joined the newly formed Cheshire League. Although a top ranking club, the title was captured just once in a memorable 1956/57 campaign. Vics' again became founder members of a new league when they accepted an invitation from the Northern Premier League in 1968, remaining there until they signalled their ambition by joining the new Nationwide Alliance Premier League in 1979. Last season was the club’s 25th continuous season among the elite of non-league football. Before joining the national elite however, Vics' name had been on the tips of the nation’s tongues following the remarkable FA Cup run in 1976/77. The team defeating three football league sides en route to the fourth round – Rochdale, Peterborough and Watford (the latter being watched by a crowd of 8,989 at the Drill Field including at that time their chairman Sir Elton John), before finally bowing out to Oldham Athletic in a game seen by nearly 30,000 at Maine Road. In 1982/83 the Club reached its finest hour when they won through to the final of the FA Trophy but lost 2-1 to Telford United at Wembley. The Vics' faithful had only to wait twelve months before returning to the twin towers, where they drew 1-1 with Bangor City. To the delight of their fans the Greens won the replay 2-1 at Stoke’s aptly named Victoria Ground. After a short spell in the doldrums the 1990's saw Vics' begin to reassert themselves as a leading force in semi-professional football. Most notably, when defeating Martin O’Neill’s Wycombe Wanderers on their home turf in April 1993 to lift the Drinkwise Cup. In 1995/96 Vics' continued their progress, recording a best finish of eighth in the league and another trip to Wembley in the FA Trophy, a fantastic achievement considering they were drawn away from home in each round. Alas, it was not a successful one as Cheshire rivals Macclesfield Town proved too strong on the day, winning 3-1. Five years on, Vics' sampled further FA Cup glory under the management of Keith Alexander. The club claimed their first league scalp for 17 years defeating Bury at the Drill Field in a first round replay, before turning a 2-0 deficit against Leyton Orient into a 3-2 lead before a late equaliser earned the Londoners a replay at Brisbane Road, a game which they in turn won 3-2 after extra time having trailed the Vics' 2-0, a thrilling match screened live on Sky TV. When Alexander was offered the post of Director of Coaching at Lincoln City in the summer of 2001, he was replaced for two seasons at Northwich by former Northern Ireland international Jimmy Quinn. After Quinn departed for Shrewsbury Town, Vic’s unsuccessfully suffered three more managers before finishing bottom of the Conference in 2003/04, only to survive relegation on ground technicalities at other clubs. Following the sale of the famous Drill Field ground, Vics' undertook ground sharing with neighbours Witton Albion which lasted a further 3 seasons. In September 2004 the club went into administration and suffered a 10 point deduction. However, against all the odds current manager Steve Burr and his team produced some fantastic performances, eventually finishing outside the bottom three, culminating in the team being voted “Non-League club of the year” by the Non-League paper. However due to a technicality in the club administration Vics suffered their first relegation since the foundation of the conference league & started the 2005/2006 season in the conference north. The club under the ownership of Mike Connett commenced the season at the newly built Victoria Stadium & their form matched their superb new facilities as they went fifteen games undefeated before emphasis shifted to a tremendous F.A Cup run. After victories against Frickley , North Ferriby , Barrow , Morecambe & Woking the run culminated in the Vics' playing their first ever game against a premiership side, and a great day out against Sunderland at the Stadium Of Light in front of 19,323 fans & cheered on by over 3,500 Vics' supporters, the team produced a battling display, finally loosing the game 3-0. After slipping to 3rd in the league during January & February the team embarked on a record breaking run of 15 consecutive victories & were eventually crowned champions after defeating closest rivals Stafford Rangers by a 3-1 scoreline on the penultimate Saturday of the season this time cheered on by a record 3,154 at the Victoria Stadium . Vics' didn’t find it easy going back into the conference national and at times were too close to the bottom four for comfort. However, a superb run of fine victories at the end of March when they defeated the likes of Oxford United, Dagenham & Redbridge, Kidderminster, Crawley Town and Tamworth saw them finish in a comfortable 13th place position in the league. They also had a successful FA Trophy run witch saw them reach the semi finals stage before being defeated 4-3 on aggregate to Kidderminster Harriers. At the end of a long hard season the club was rocked

LAST TIME OUT FOR VICS NORTHWICH VICTORIA

2 0 SILSDEN

WHITTLE 60 BROWNHILL 78 SATURDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER 2018/WINNCHAM PARK/ HT:0-0/ATT125:

Vics’ made a welcome return to form defeating the unbeaten second-placed side. The game opened up with both sides looking to attack - on 3’ Vics’ Connolly caused trouble for Silsden down the left hand side as he twisted and turned past ex-Vics’ skipper Lyndon. He put a great ball across and Whittle can't find the back of the net with his twenty-yard shot, which visiting glove-man Sam Lee saved well. Silsden replied with Mark Everingham’s potshot from the edge of the box working Vics’ net-minder Taberner well on 12’. On 27’ Joel Brownhill had the chance of the game so far when he was slipped into the box by a threaded ball by game-star Billy Whittle and controlled on his chest, but miscued his twelve-yard shot wide. On the half-hour Danny Taberner produced a good save down low to his right to deny Silsden the opening goal, a low raking shot by front-man Luke Rhodes. HALF-TIME - Vics’ 0-0 Silsden AFC. The second half began with Vics’ on the front foot launching many raids on the visitors’ defence, and the pressure told on the hour with the breakthrough. Joel Brownhill’s left-wing run saw him cross the ball into the lurking Brian Matthews who couldn’t get the shot off from 7 yards out with the keeper’ colliding with the hit-man. The ball ran loose to Billy Whittle who side-footed into the corner of the net from ten yards past two desperate Sills’ defenders who were stood on the goalline. Silsden were struggling to make any in-roads to get back into the game and their only real chance in the first twentyfive minutes of the second period was a tame header by Joe Mitchell that Vics’ keeper Taberner easily dealt with on 66’. Vics’ largely dominated and on 73’ Dom Craig saw his stooping header drop the wrong side of the upright from Kirtis Monson’s left-wing centre. The game was put beyond the visitors’ reach on 78’ when Joel Brownhill emphatically dispatched a penalty past Sam Lee; the free-hit being awarded for a handball against centre-back Dan Illingworth who was trying to prevent Brian Matthews getting on to the end of Brad Cookes’ lofted assist. It was nearly three on 84’ Rob Doran wom a second ball and played Dom Craig through. His cross was deflected towards goal but it 01 SAMUEL LEE 01 DANIEL TABERNER canonned off the base of the post and was cleared. .Manager Andy Clarkson welcomed back Seydou Bamba into the side after he had received from concussion in their previous home game against Charnock Richard, he replaced Dave Rossall. In a first half mainly controlled by Squires Gate, the homeside took the lead seven minutes before half time. Gate had been wasteful in front of goal up to then but had plenty of chances to open the scoring. Scott Harries with his first of the night. He jinked past his man into the box before his shot took a deflection to take the ball over the keeper and in. In a rare break into Gate’s half, Ben Fletcher stayed brave to deny the visitors in a one on one. Harries would grab his second of the game just two minutes later. In a similar part of the box, the Gate captain looped his shot over the stationary keeper for a quick fire double.

Half time: Squires Gate 2-0 Northwich Victoria A mistake from Gate early into the second half let the visitors again in one on one, but again Gate keeper Ben Fletcher did well to deny them. Gate who looked fired up for this game, would add to their lead in the 63rd minute. Gary Pett burst into the box and was hacked down by a Vics defender and the striker, who had been causing Vics problems all night finished Cooley from the spot. Pett was again in the right place at the right one when he received the ball at the back post from Harries to tap in for 4-0. Gate would round of the scoring and a massive victory through Dean Ing in the 81st minute. He showed his strength, easily getting past his man before firing past the keeper with his weak foot.

In a new feature we team up with the Non-league paper editor Matt Badcock who is going a little bit off a column each week to place into our programme so all you non-league fan can found out at happen all across the non-league pyramid

This week’s NLP programme column below, written by Hugo Varley. It was a real shame to see the FA’s decision to remove Whyteleafe from this season’s FA Cup over what seems to have been an incredibly minor administrative mistake. The Essex-based club were kicked out of the competition just 24 hours before their second qualifying match against St Albans after the FA ruled that an ineligible player had been played during an earlier round. If their appeal is unsuccessful then it is believed that Whyteleafe will have to return the £6000 they received for beating Corinthian Casuals in the previous round; while a potential points deduction could also be on the cards as the ineligible player has also represented Whyteleafe in a Bostik Division One South game this season. In some respects I see the argument that rules are rules and if one is broken then a club should be punished, however on occasions like this it is plainly clear that the FA have a completely blinkered view the realities of Non-League football. Clubs like Whyteleafe usually rely on the work of volunteers or part-time staff whose responsibilities stretch across numerous different duties. It would be perfectly reasonable to expect a Football League club, who have a fully staffed administrative department, to abide by all regulations; however in NonLeague the situation is completely different. My worry is that if the FA is insistent on stringently enforcing every single rule without looking into the context of individual situations then the volunteers throughout Non-League football may decide against continuing their involvement with their local sides for fear of making a potentially damaging mistake. It is absolutely essential that the FA develop a level of common sense with regards to their regulations and realise that a certain amount of leeway should be given in certain situations.

AROUND THE LEAGUE A full programme of league games provided the bill of fare to enjoy at the weekend, with the usual mixture of goals and talking points. Before the action began though, across the league all clubs honoured the memory of Ashton Athletic Secretary Taffy Roberts, who sadly passed away at the start of the week. In the Premier Division, City of Liverpool took advantage of a Silsden defeat to extend their lead at the top of the table to four points, with a 5-2 home win over Winsford United. The result was all the more impressive given that the Purps were twice behind in the game, but an impressive last half hour saw them through to victory, with Thomas Peterson scoring twice to take his tally for the season to eight. Silsden, meanwhile were going down 2-0 at Northwich Victoria, and the second half goals from Billy Whittle and Joel Brownhill from the penalty spot moved Vics up to sixth. Runcorn Town moved level on points with Silsden, thanks to a 5-1 win over Abbey Hey at the Pavilions, Ryan Cox and Harry Brazel both scoring twice. The result leaves Abbey in second bottom place, and below them are only Ashton Athletic, whose 2-1 defeat at Barnoldswick Town moved Barlick up into fifth place. Zack Dale scored both goals for the home side. Charnock Richard rounded off a good week with a 4-2 win at Irlam, captain and goalscoring talisman Carl Grimshaw setting them on the way with the opening goal, and Chad Whyte also scored twice in Burscough’s 3-2 win at Padiham. As well as earning West Didsbury & Chorlton a 1-0 win at Squires Gate, Saul Henderson’s 89th minute goal also ended a run of five straight defeats, and Scott’s McGowan’s 79th minute goal secured 1874 Northwich’s 2-1 win over Bootle, the Greens’ third win in four games. The one game in the division that ended all square was at Yockings Park, where Whitchurch Alport extended their unbeaten run to six games with a 2-2 draw at home to Hanley Town. The First Division North continues to be headed by Carlisle City, who remain two points ahead of Longridge Town following a 4-0 home win over AFC Liverpool. It was a game to remember for City’s Rob McCartney, who scored all four goals. Longridge Town remain on the leaders’ coat tails, but had to rely on goals in the last 14 minutes from Harvey Close and Daniel Wilkinson to pick up three points from a 2-1 win at Chadderton. Michael Stockdale of Avro scored twice in their 3-2 win at Lower Breck which keeps them in third place, and the highest scoring game in the division was at the Arcoframe Stadium, where Steeton eventually won 6-4 against St Helens Town, after being 6-1 up after an hour. Steeton’s Andrew Briggs and Ben Clarkson both scored twice in a win that moved the Yorkshiremen into fifth place. There was also no shortage of entertainment at Crilly Park, where a dingdong affair between Atherton LR and AFC Darwen ended 4-4. Two goals apiece from Elliot Pond and Leon Creech had Darwen ahead late in the game to cancel out Henoc Mukendi’s hat trick, but Nathan Strong’s 86th minute equaliser salvaged a point for LR. After two defeats, two goals from Ben Duffield got AFC Blackpool back to winning ways with a 2-1 home win over Nelson, and it’s now six games unbeaten and three straight wins for Prestwich Heys after their 3-1 win over Daisy Hill at Adie Moran Park. A hat trick from Alan Coar set Garstang on the way to a 4-0 win at Holker Old Boys, a result that keeps the Cumbrians at the bottom of the table, and Michael Gervin’s hat trick was the highlight of Bacup Borough’s 4-2 home win over Cleator Moor Celtic. The other game in the division between Shelley and Ashton Town remained goalless. First Division South is headed by Abbey Hulton United, who beat Cheadle Heath Nomads 4-0. Dylan Bath and Angela Errico both scored twice in the final 18 minutes of the game. St Martins are in second place following a 2-0 win over Rylands at the Venue, with Karl Bailey and Brendon Price on target for Saints in a victory that saw them leapfrog over their opponents in the table. Wythenshawe Amateurs drop to fourth place, after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to FC Oswestry Town, and Cheadle Town’s 2-0 win over Stone Dominoes that moved them into fifth place was delivered through second half goals from Callum Collinson and Callum Knight. Vauxhall Motors raced into a three-goal lead after 27 minutes at Stone Old Alleynians, but two goals from Jack Tomlinson and one from Matt Thomas earned a point for the home side. Barnton were the highest scorers of the day in the division, two penalties from Samuel Houghton and two goals from Ryan Wan seeing them to a 5-2 win at New Mills and Kieron Garner-Knapper also scored twice for Sandbach United in the 3-2 win at Wythenshawe Town. A stoppage time goal from Cammell Laird 1907’s Joseph Foster clinched a 1-0 home win over Eccleshall, and Maine Road dropped to second bottom in the table after going down 2-0 at Alsager Town. Ellesmere Rangers remain in bottom spot after going down 3-1 at home to Stockport Town, Reece Skelton scoring a hat trick for the visitors. LAST TIME GATE WAS HERE ABBEY HEY 1 GATE 3 Much like Wednesday night win, Gate started this game quickly and took the lead after just two minutes. Gary Pett did well to battle for the ball in the corner before sitting down his man, making his way into the box, and finding Issac Sinclair at the back post who tapped in for his first goal for the club. The homesides first chance came after 13 minutes. A long ball was sent into the path of Blake, but Ben Fletcher did well to come off his line and collect. A minute later and Gate would go close themselves. Gary Pett took aim from outside the box but his shot was deflected for a corner. From that corner Dan Gray found Alex Colquhoun, but he got too good a connection on the ball and headed just over. In heavy snow it was Gate who looked the more conformable of the two sides, going close from a Dan Gray freekick. Just before half time Gate got in behind Abbey Hey again. Dean Ing found the run of Issac Sinclair in behind but his cross was fired wide at the near post by Pett. Gate started the second half just as they'd ended the first. They went close again on 54 minutes when Dan Gray found Gary Pett, but the strikers header was straight at the keeper. Gate doubled their lead just after the hour mark. From the homesides first flurry forward in this half, Gate hit them on the counter from a corner. Sinclair found Seydou Bamba on the left, he sent the ball into the box which came back of the post where Dean Ing burst in to head in. The home side would grab a goal back out of nothing six minutes from time. Daniel Hefferman firing past Fletcher who had nothing to do in the game up until that point. The goal wouldn't matter though as in the 91st minute Gate would strike again. First sub Finley Clarkson went close when he hit the crossbar when one on one. Then fellow sub Ryan Charnley was in the right place at the right time to tap in when Issac Sinclair found him unmarked at the back post.
