FROM THE DUGOUT

DANIEL PENSWICK “TUESDAY POINT AT HOME TO WINSOFRD FEELS LIKE A DEFEAT BUT THERE WAS A PLENTY TO TAKE FROM THE GAME” Good afternoon everyone,

Today we welcome West Didsbury & Chorlton to The Brain Addison Stadium. Our two previous meetings have

produced two great games and I'm hoping for the same today.

“Our two Previous meeting have produced two great games and I’m hoping for the same today ”

West Didsbury have tailed off a bit recently after an excellent start but still have quality all over the pitch which we'll have to be wary of.

“West Didsbury still have quality all over th Pitch which we’ll have to be wary off ” Tuesdays point at home to Winsford feels like a defeat but there were plenty of positives to take from the game. Tarran Moxon's hat trick on his full home debut showed just how dangerous he can be. He scares defences with his pace and I'm looking for more of the same on Saturday.

“Tarran Moxon Hat trick on his full home debut showed just how dangerous he can be” Lets hope we can finally find the elusive win our recent performances have deserved.

Gate could have gone ahead straight from kick off after good work from Dawson and Higham. Dawson did well to cut the ball back to Higham but the winger could only fire over. Gate were very unlucky not to go ahead after 21 minutes when Abbey Hey cleared the ball off the line. Jake Higham flicked the ball over his man and found the run of Brett Dawson in front of him. Dawson then fired low at the near post but the goal bound shot was cleared before it crossed the line. Just a minute later Gate had another chance though Dawson again. His shot was blocked, the keeper came to collect the ball but was beat to it by Richards. He turned on the edge of the box and chipped the ball back towards goal, but the keeper did well to recover and save. Despite Gate mounting pressure it would be the visitors who would take the lead. The ball was spilled by keeper Joe Griffith for Sam Noar to tap in to give Abbey Hey the lead. Gate had several free kicks as the game became scrappy towards the end of the first half, but couldn't make them count. Andrew Richards was cynically hacked down for the third time by the same player on 41 minutes, but from the resulting freekick the visiting keeper did well to catch the ball. Gate would go into half time level through a lovely finish from the manager. The ball was played into his feet, he turned, flicked the ball up and fired into the bottom corner. The second could have seen Abbey Hey take the lead in the 53rd minute when they saw not one but two efforts cannon off the crossbar. First the freekick from the edge of the box was fired against the crossbar then from the rebound, the same player fired the ball against the underside of the bar with the ball bouncing clear. It was then Gate who went very close down the other end. First Joe Noblet's freekick was tipped over by the keeper before the corner came to nothing. Then in a goal mouth scramble, Gate couldn't find the important touch to find the back of the net. Brett Dawson's shot was blocked before the ball fell to Bamba who fell, but neither he or Andrew Richards could scramble it in. It would then be Abbey Hey who'd take the lead on 74 minutes. A foul right on the edge of the box giving the visitors the chance to take the lead. Keeper Joe Griffith was very unlucky with spot kick, guessing the right way but not being able to stop the powerful shot. The visitors could have then finished the game in the 84th minute with a golden chance. The ball fired into the back post but the winger coming in fired over the bar. They'd soon recover from that though making their lead certain in the 87th minute. The goal was harsh on Gate as the player who crossed the ball was offside but the man who matters in the ground, didn't see it. The offside player crossed into the box for Jonathan Hardy to tap in.

It wasn't the best of starts for Danny Penswick's men who went behind in the game after just 24 seconds. The ball was lost on the right hand side, the 1874 winger attacked and fizzed a lovely ball into the box where lethal striker Tom Bailey was to tap in. Despite the early set back Gate then went on to react positively to it having a good spell of possession. First Joe Noblet fired a shot straight into the hands Greg Hall before Ben Seear's cross looking for Brett Dawson couldn't just find the striker. Mike Hall then showed his quality on the ball after 10 minutes when his inch perfect through ball found the run of Ben Seear but his curling shot was saved by Hall and the following corner also saved. The home sides second goal came in a rather fortunate way. Gate trying to retain possession and looking in no real danger passed the ball square. Unfortunately for Gate the match referee got in the way of the pass with the ball dropping to and 1874 attacker who was left one on one with Gate's full backs forward making themselves available for a pass. The ball was then passed into the box where Jason Carey was to slot home his first for the club after 29 minutes. Again though Gate still didn't try to let the goal get them down and continued to try and find a way back into the game. The lone man up top, Brett Dawson, had two great chances both coming from his own determination. First he slid in to pinch the ball off an 1874 defender before curling the ball over the bar. Then he closed down 1874 keeper Greg Hall but couldn't capitalise by scoring with 74' recovering well. Dawson would eventually get Gate off the mark with seconds left of the first half when he rifled a shot into the top corner. The goal coming from a counter attack from the home sides corner with Joe Noblet playing the killer ball after finding time and space in midfield for Brett to score. Half time perhaps came at the wrong time for Gate with any potential momentum killed from the goal. The second half saw the hosts really step up their game and show why they're still in the promotion race. A combination of Joe Griffith saving with his feet and a Gate defender clearing the ball off the line kept the scores the same soon into the second half to deny a 1874 defender. However that would change in the 69th minute when Lee Jones added a third for his side. A short corner played into the box found Jones who struck a lovely volley right into the top corner. 1874 could have scored another a couple of minutes after their third but a determined Griffith denied them. Tom Bailey stepped up to the freekick but Griffith was equal to it to tip the ball over the bar. The follow up corner was fired right across the box. Bailey would complete his brace on 82 minutes from the spot. Joe Griffith judged to have tripped Jason Carey with Bailey stepping up to fire the ball past the keeper

Squires Gate picked up another valuable point and a clean sheet against the team sat just below them, Barnton, this weekend.

Manager Danny Penswick made two changes to the side that lost to promotion chasing 1874 Northwich last weekend. New signing Charlie Waters signed from Lancaster City came in on the right hand side whilst Seydou Bamba was preferred to Brett Dawson up front. It certainly wasn't a classic but it was perhaps what Gate needed after three defeats on the bounce. Winger Charlie Waters could have made the perfect start to his Squires Gate career on 10 minutes when he fired a great chance wide. Manager Danny Penswick played a lovely through ball behind the full back to find Waters, but his first time shot was fired wide of the post. The homeside then had two chances, first Chris Smith headed wide at the back post from a corner, then Jason McShane fired wide from a long way out. Manager Danny Penswick then fired wide to end what was a good spell of possession from Gate around Barnton's area. Joe Noblet then fired over at a second attempt after Charlie Waters was fouled after a mazy run. Down the other end the home side saw a goal ruled out for offside on 24 minutes. The ball cut back from the goal line into the six yard box and fired in but the player that passed it was judged to be offside.

The second half became more of a scrappy affair with only one team looking likely to win the game. Charlie Waters again came close to opening his account for the club on 59 minutes. Paul Carroll's throw in was headed down by Seydou Bamba to find the winger, but his shot was fired over the bar. As the clock ticked on the game became more stretched with Gate looking to score a late winner. Charlie Waters was again involved when he latched onto a lovely through ball from Paul Carroll but his shot was blocked and cleared. Ten minutes later Waters found the run of sub Dawson whose shot rebounded into the patch of Seydou Bamba, but he couldn't adjust quick enough to shoot. Dawson and Bamba again linked up three minutes later, but the latter headed wide from Dawson's cross in. The late chances wouldn't end there for Gate with two in the last minute. First manager Danny Penswick could have won it but his shot from inside the box was blocked and cleared at the second attempt. The moments later Brett Dawson crossed the ball in from the goal line to find the head of Seydou Bamba but he couldn't keep his header down and fired over the bar.

Squires Gate suffered a frustrating defeat away at AFC Liverpool this weekend in another goal fest if a game.

GATE:

The last time these two sides met was a nine goal thriller with AFC winning 5-4. Gate manager Danny Penswick chose and unchanged side to the side that drew with Barnton two weeks ago. New signing Max Rothwell started on the bench. The homeside couldn't have started the game any better as after just 40 seconds they opened the scoring. Emini Adegbenro catching Gate unaware to fire in from distance for the perfect start. The poor start from Gate actually looked to calm the visitors who went on to play the better football. Gate would capitalise on their reaction to going behind by replying in the best way possible. The dangerous looking Charlie Waters getting in front of his man to cross to the back post where Ben Seear fired home to level. Seear scoring his fifth goal of the season to give Gate a deserved equaliser.

Soon after Seear's eqauslier, Gate could have had another. Charlie Waters again involved to send a ball upto Seydou Bamba, but the striker was judged to have controlled the ball with his hand. Not long after player/manager Danny Penswick shot from a tight angle inside the box but the ball fired behind into the main stand.

Gate would continue their good spell after the half time break, Joe Noblet firing straight into the keepers arms from just outside the box from a freekick. The midfielder was then involved again in the build up to Gate taking the lead. Danny Penswick drawing his man out of position allowed Joe Noblet to fire just wide, winning a corner. From the corner Gate would take the lead. The corner falling to Dave Rossall on the opposite side of the box, he crossed the ball back in, to find the head of Seydou Bamba who rose highest to power a header in. Up until the 60th minute Gate looked in a controlling positio but then the homeside were offered a way back into the game when many of their heads were down. The referee judged Paul Alexander to have fouled an AFC attacker, even though the attacker pulled down Alexander. Despite Gate's protests Defender Michael White stepped upto the spot to fire the homeside level. Not two minutes after leveling, AFC would take the lead. A long searching ball pumped up into Gate's area was left by both Alexander and keeper Joe Griffith allowing Emini Adegbenro and easy finish. To say the 60th minute was a success for AFC would be an understatement. They extend their lead on 69 minutes through winger Jack Leamey. Much like in the reverse fixture when winger Jack Leamey scored a brace, including a superb finish, the winger would haunt Gate again. Another fine finish extending AFC's lead who now lead 4-2, having been loosing 2-1 ten minutes ago. Had it not been for a superb save from keeper Joe Griffith in the 90th minute, AFC could have extend their lead further. He tipped over a fearsome freekick from winger Jack Leamey to end the game.

Squires Gate suffered another defeat which leaves them looking down the table with just four points in 2017. Gates first chance of the game came following a short pass from the home keeper. His pass found Charlie Waters instead of his own player, Waters beat his man down the line, but his cross was too heavy and went out.

The impressive Jon Hardy had the chance to put his side in front after six minutes but he fired wide from outside the box. Gate were struggling to deal with the formation that Abbey WYNNE,JONES,ALEXANDER,WAGER,SMIT Hey played and were outnumbered in midfield, struggling to deal with the overlaps from H,GIBSON,TINNING,MOORE,MURRAY,HA the wing backs. RDY,HICKMAN The home side would go close again after half an hour with consecutive corners. The first ABBEY HEY:

was taken short but Ben Seear did well to intercept. Abbey Hey learnt from that and fired the next corner into the six yard box, luckily for Gate keeper Andrew Speight punched the SPEIGHT,CARROLL,HIGHAM,HALL,PENSW ball clear. ICK,ALEXANDER,WATERS,ROTHWELL. Gate then attacked, winning themselves a freekick in a promising position. Joe Noblet took BAMBA(RICHARDS 79),NOBLET,B.SEEAR the freekick but unfortunately didn't beat the first man. The ball fell to an Abbey Hey player and the homeside attacked with devastating pace. Rio Murray burst clear into Gates box and poked under the onrushing Speight to open the scoring. Reported By Mark Ashmore GATE:

Pictures By Albert Cooper

It was the homeside who were more than on top in the first half coupled with a mediocre Gate display. Some better finishing on show for the homeside could have seen them two or three goals up at half time. The second half would start alot better for Gate who changed things up at half time matching Abbey Hey, taking Jake Higham off to be replaced by Tarran Moxon. Just two minutes into the second half Gate were awarded a penalty. Ben Seear judged to have been fouled after the ball had left his foot. Joe Noblet confidently stepped up, to score the penalty and level the game for Gate. Sub Tarran Moxon would offer Gate an outlet in the second half with his movement up top, something which they lacked in the first 45. He was in the right place at the right time to give Gate the lead on 58 minutes. The front three all combining, Charlie Waters squared the ball to Seydou Bamba who chose to pass instead of shoot finding Moxon who fired in. Gates lead wouldn't last long, in fact just five minutes. A corner was fired into the back post where Jon Hardy scrambled the ball over the line to level the game. Abbey Hey would then go onto take the momentum of the equaliser and win the game. James Moore was allowed too much room on the edge of the box to fire low into the bottom corner to win the game. The loss leaves Gate in 16th but with teams underneath them with games in hand they need to start picking up points.

INTRODUCING

WEST DIDSBURY & CHORLTON Everything you need to know about today’s visitors This afternoon we welcome West Didsbury & Chorlton to The Brain Addison Stadium. West Didsbury have had a great season this year but didn't get far in the because at start off season Squires gate and West Didbury both met and Squires gate came off winners where they won 3-2 where both teams was giving there all to be in the next round off the FA Cup. The sides also met in the league back in October where this once again Gate won 3-2 in a yet another entreating game and I also have no doubt today will be more of the same between this two teams.

West Didsbury Comes into games off a 3-0 win away to Barnton which ended there no win in 6 games. there also coming off a 2-2 draw to local rivals Abbey Hey. West Didsbury are going strong as they sit 11th with 12 wins 6 draws and 14 loses and 42 points this should see them though the rest of the season. West Didsbury would also looking to there leading goalscorer Matthew Kay how has netted 13 goals in 30 Appearances but I'm sure he will be looking to net a few toady and in the final games off the season.

THE BOSS: Steve Settle Steve Settle like Gate Manager is a West Player Manager, he has a very great playing career. He has played for Atherton LR ,Leigh RM, Witton Albion Leigh Genesis, Mossley, Curzon Ashton and Bamber Bridge. He is Currently is a Teacher in Bolton.

He doing good at West Didsbury so fair as he is comfortable in 11th Positon with 42 which so see him and West to stay in the division.

THE ROCK Aaron Ashby

FACT FILE Formed: 1908

Position: Goalkeeper APPS: 1 Goals: 0

Stadium: Brookburn Road

Though a new addition to the West ranks, Ashby will play a key part in today's game. The shot stopper is highly rated and arrived from Bacup Borough at the start of March. So far Aaron has only had the chance to play one game, where he kept a clean sheet at Barnton in a 3-0 win.

Capacity: 1,000

Gate will be hoping to causes some problems for this young goalkeeper today but Aaron will be hoping for another clean sheet like in his first game vs Barnton.

Record attendance: 460

Manager: Stevie Settle Chairman: Glyn Meacher

MIDDLE OF THE PARK Matty Kay Position: Midfield Apps: 31 Goals: 13 Arguably West's best player, Kay is key to everything they do linking up attack and midfield. The former FC United and Trafford player could arguably be playing at a higher level, He's found the net 13 times this season from attacking midfield picking up two MOM awards. Matty will be hopfing he can do what do best in todays game against Gate and causes a bigh threat for gate Back line and hopefully net one or two as to added to his 13 goals already this season

THE FINISHER Nicolaos Evangelinos Position: Winger Apps: 14 Goals: 7 Since returning to the club near the start of the season Evangelinos has been in fine form, finding the net 9 time in 15 games. If the attacker can replicate some of the form seen last season then he'll surely be a threat today. Gate fulls back will need to on there guard toady if the would want to stop this Very Fast winger how can be a big handful for defence and can get down the wing very quickly but Nicolas will be doing all his to get a few crosses in the box so that west can get a few goals in todays game .

2015/16 position: 5th

HISTORY For the 1920–21 season, the club changed its name to West Didsbury A.F.C. and joined the Lancashire and Cheshire League. West played at the top level of this league for many years, finishing runners-up four times and winning the Rhodes cup in 1932. The club was relegated in 1951–52 but were promoted back the following year. In 1959–60, West were again relegated, but this time took six years to regain a place in Division One. This was short-lived, however, as West were relegated again in 1968–69. Despite this, the club won the Rhodes cup for the second time in 1969– 70. After again achieving promotion to Division One in 1970–71, two relegations in three years saw West playing in the Lancashire and Cheshire League Division Three, in which they stayed until the late 1980s.[2] In the 1987–88 and 1988–89 season the club achieved back to back promotions as champions. In 2003, the club changed its name to West Didsbury & Chorlton, to reflect its new location after an earlier ground move. In 2006, they entered the Manchester League Division One, won two Murray Shields in three seasons, and were crowned champions in 2010–11, gaining promotion to the Premier Division. [2] In the 2011–12 season, the club played in the FA Vasefor the first time, and were knocked out in the Second Qualifying Round by Ashville F.C.For the 2012–13 season the club had its application to enter the North West Counties Football League Division One accepted. This was the first time the club has played at level 10 of the English football league system.

VIEW FROM AWAY END In our regular feature, we ask away fans to give us an insight into their expectations for the season, about their time watching their club and some general football questions. This week, we caught up with Matthew Britton we found out his up and downs at West Didsbury we also found out who would be in a 5 a side squad. We also found out what his expectations was for the season.

What are your expectations for the season after Which players do you think will be the biggest your 5th place finished last season? threat to gate?

Have you been to Squires Gate before? If so, what was the score?

Well, at the start of the season the aim was more to build up the club off the pitch - to grow our fanbase, while also putting together a young, exciting team on it. While our performances haven’t quite matched up to last season’s this time out. The cup run we hoped for never properly materialised, though.

Never been, sorry!

Fan favourite Nic Evangelinos is unplayable on his day, but midfielder Matty Kay is in the form of his life and striker Saul Henderson has really upped his game of late - those three could cause any NWCFL problems.

What has been the most memorable moment and game for you within your time watching West Didsbury?

If you were manager of a 5 a side team and had to 2 West players and 3 BPL legends. Who would be in your side and why

I’m choosing two West legends, too. Gary Lilley would be first name on the team sheet s- he’s still a part of What improvements do you think you have the squad, but has spent most of the last few months made so u can improve on last seasons finish? The previously mentioned FC United game is the stand- injured. Tough tackling, all action, a perfect 5s player. One thing that we’ve often been hurt by is having a out, but rather than talk about that again our FA Vase On the other end of the spectrum - Tre Baldwin Willis. fairly small squad, and limited options off the bench. game at home to Morpeth is something that has stayed Flair player, and the only man I’ve ever seen score an That’s something the management seem to be working with me. From losing 4-0 at half time, West somehow overhead kick in a reserve game. Premier League legon, as well as strengthening the defensive side of our brought it back to 4-4 deep into injury time. We preends - Gary Speed, to add a bit of class in the middle of game. Sadly, with the title race being a lot more comsumed that the referee was going to blow up as soon the park, Dennis Bergkamp to pump long balls to when petitive this time out and the quality of the league as the game kicked off again but instead - long ball under pressure, Lucas Radebe because - well, he’s the overall rising considerably, improving on last year’s forward and Morpeth nick a winner. Heartbreaking chief. No keeper, we’ll play 2-and-out like God intendposition already seems to be out of reach. ed.

Which players will be key for you this season?

After a great start to the first half of the season what are your expectations for the rest of the season? For the final few games, we’re just after celebrating an incredible season for the club - and hopefully winning the South Manchester Derby at the end of the month against Maine Road. We’ve added a couple of exciting names to the squad, so building for next season is the priority

What teams are you looking forward to going up against or played this season? Highlight of the season was travelling to FC United in the cup - taking 200 West fans and singing for 90 minutes will live long in the memory, so much so that the 7-1 pasting we took on the pitch barely even matters. Having heard so much about Squires Gate from everyone who’s been, I’m looking forward to making my first trip up to see you more than anything else.

Any grounds that you enjoy visiting? Runcorn Town’s ground holds a special place in my heart. Those salt works overlooking the ground - magnificent.

One player who was key has now sadly left the club Ash Woods, a classy striker who was both industrious and clinical. He won supporter’s player of the season last year, and we were all very sad to see him go. Thankfully, his replacement Saul Henderson has stepped up, and the attack is looking as imperious as ever.

If you could sign 3 Premier League players on a free transfer, who would you sign and why? John Stones seems like a nice lad, and would probably be able to defend at this level too, so he’s first up. Juan Mata is the same really - likes the area, is into his music, probably knows a couple of craft ales - would be a real fan favourite I reckon. Third in my list of nice lads who I’d like to have a pint with - Dele Alli. Would need an open letter of apology to the fan base for being a Milton Keynes fan though.

Have you ever been to Wembley before? And What would be your ideal scenario there? I’ve only ever been to the old Wembley 9for a 0-0 friendly, great). With West - going there to win the Vase in a double season would be the dream, wouldn’t it? Cantering to the league, then thumping some unsuspecting Northern League team at Wembley.

Are you looking forward to the the last few months off the season and what do you expected to see from your team? I’m already fearing the few months without football, so I will be clinging to each and every game we have remaining, savouring every kick and taking immense sorrow in each defeat.

Prediction for tonight’s game? 2-2, with West doing something utterly heartbreaking for me to spend the rest of the week complaining

WE’VE MET BEFORE?

SQUIRES GATE 0 WEST DIDSBURY 4 SATURDAY 17TH OCTOBER 2015 The first chance fell to the away side, as they picked the ball up from the left side and turned inside to put a shot over the bar from 20 yards. 3 minutes later, another chance as the ball was headed away by Gate but only as far as their striker who again put it beyond the crossbar. As Gate started to break into the game, they were caught on the counter attack but Ben Fletcher was there to deny the West striker Ashely Woods. Gates first opportunity came as Josh Kay played a long ball over the top, but Mark Buchan was unable to get there before the defender. Buchan had another chance to put Gate ahead but he couldn't get enough power in his shot to trouble their keeper. The visitors took the lead after 36 minutes as Matthew Kay crossed the ball in to find Steer who headed it over the Gate keeper. They soon doubled their lead on the stroke half time when Steer added to his tally with a well struck shot that lobbed Ben Fletcher. Gate were lucky to only be two goals behind at half time. The second half bought more constant pressure from the away side, and they came out the strongest with a chance within 10 minutes when Woods had his shot parried past the post by Fletcher, and the following corner came to nothing. The home side started to hold possession and McKenna was creating space on the right wing and found Buchan in the box who put the ball just wide of the goal. With 20 minutes to go, Fletcher was there once again to deny West Didsbury their third goal, followed up by a clearance off the line by Brett Ferguson. Penswick made three changes, giving a chance to debutant Matthew Jones, but more attacking from the visitors saw Nic Evangelinos put the game beyond Squires Gate as he tucked the ball away past Ben

WEST DIDSBURY & CHORLTON 3 SQUIRES GATE 0 SATURDAY 21ST NOVEMBER 2015 Gate made the worst possible start to the game and conceded the opening goal after 3 minutes. Perhaps a lack of match sharpness could be to blame for the first goal as it came too easily for Gates liking. The ball played over the top of Ferguson found the run of Shaw who easily finished past Fletcher’s near post. Gate first chance of the game fell to Danny Penswick after 15 minutes, the ball falling to him on the edge of the box we quickly turned and got a low shot away but the keeper did well to get down low to save. Gate came into the game more after the 25-minute mark but struggled to cope with pitch conditions and constant West pressure. Gate had claims for a penalty turned down on the 40-minute mark. Penswick’s free kick from just outside the box looked to strike a hand in the wall but the referee waved away Gate protests as if it were nothing. Gates best chance was soon after but Nathan Trout could only direct his header wide of the post. Much like the first half Gate didn’t start as they meant to go on and conceded anther goal after 48 minutes. West launched an attack from Gates attack and although Gate managed to get men back West still found a way through. An easy ball played across the face of goal allowed Ash Woods an easy tap in front of goal. Gate had the chance to grab a goal back after 50 minutes, some clever build up play in midfield led to Mckenna finding the ball but he couldn’t keep his shot down. First Penswick then Buchan had chances to grab a goal back for Gate but both were foiled. Penswick made a late run into the box but his shot was saved. The ball dropped to Ferguson who knocked the ball back into the box to find Buchan but his header was wide of the post. West had two chances to score but both one on one’s went wide of the net. The home side would make it 3 soon after. Ash Woods with the goal after a good spell of pressure from Gate, the home side caught them on the break to grab his second of the game. Gate perhaps created the better chances throughout the game but just couldn’t find the finish lot of the play deserved.

LAST TIME OUT

BARNTON 0 WEST DIDSBURY & CHORLTON 3 PREMIER DIVISION/THE HINCHLIFFE HOLMES STADIUM/SATURAY 11TH MARCH 2017/ATT: 41 West returned to winning ways for the first time since January 7 th with a hard fought 3-0 win away to Barnton in which they were forced to play with 10 men for more than an hour. Playing for the first time in three weeks Manager Steve Settle handed debuts to new signings goalkeeper Aaron Ashley and fullback Josh Tinker. Without Ben Steer and Rick Gleave, Setts opted for an unfamiliar 3-5-2 formation lining up with Kevin McGrath, Anthony Potts and Nia Bayunu along the back line. The game started at a frantic pace and saw Anthony Potts booked for a foul on the half way line after just three minutes. West then took an early lead through Saul Henderson as a good move down the left found Nic Evangelinos inside the penalty area, his pull back to Matty Kay was diverted to Henderson whose flick with the outside of the foot and in off the inside of the post. West went in search of a second as Evangelinos dragged an effort just wide of the post after a flicked on header by Henderson on nine minutes. Two minutes later Barnton goalkeeper was called into action as Matty Kay forced an excellent save with a hard effort from outside of the penalty area. Barnton responded with a chance of their own as a free kick was swung to the far post but the header was comfortably taken by Ashley in the West goal. Barnton came close again on 23 minutes when a low cross along the six yard box was superbly cleared by Richmond Botchey with a last ditch tackle. The biggest talking point came on 29 minutes when Potts was dismissed for a second yellow card for a trip at the edge of the area.

West reshuffled to a back four and continued to push forward as Tinker found Scott Mason with a good pass before playing in Evangelinos who couldn’t strike it cleanly towards goal. On 39 minutes Barnton were denied a goal for offside before Botchey again came to the rescue with a superb tackle. Barnton grew into the halves final minutes as Ashley was called into action to push away a cross before superbly blocking a corner at his near post to ensure the scores remained the same at half time. The second half began with Henderson breaking the offside trap and a superb cross along the 6 yard line just evaded Evangelinos out stretched boot. Barnton responded as Ryan Malone forced Ashley to make a good save at the near post moments after they’d had another goal ruled out for offside. Despite their numerical disadvantage West doubled their lead on 65 minutes when a superb move down the right found Hendrson who picked out Evangelinos with another low cross who turned it home beyond the helpless Conkie. IS t was three on 73 minutes when Henderson chased down a loose pass, dispossessing Conkie before laying it off to Matty Kay who squad to Mason; the West midfielders cross found Evangelinos who volleyed home into the top right hand corner substitute Georgi Whemnt almost made it four with his first touch as his volley from a narrow angle was parried away by Conkie in the Barnton goal but West comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to secure their first clean sheet away from home since September.

Gate made to settle for point after Winsford fight back.

Gate would make the perfect start to the game scoring after 9 minutes. Tarren Moxon was sent in behind the Winsford defence before outpacing the last man and firing low into the bottom corner! Gate would then double their lead in much the same fashion. Winsford hitting the bar from Freekick that found a header, Gate then countered down the other end. Moxon again timed his run well and was found with a perfect pass he then did the rest firing in for his second!

Tarren Moxon had a great chance to secure his hatrick after just 35 minutes. He was causing the Winsford backline all sorts of problems. He was sent through again but his shot was saved by the keeper. After the break it would be Winsford who would status the second half the stronger. But Gate again would show their dominance in front of Goal. Tarren Moxon was again sent through to complete his hatrick. He sent a defender and the keeper to the floor before firing into the empty net. Winsford were offered a way back into the game when they were awarded a penalty. Alexander looking to win the ball from the attacker was deemed to have fouled him. Winsford stepped up to fire in and reduce the scorleine. Winsford would then pull another back on 75 minutes. A deep cross back into the back post was headed in by an unmarked player.
