The two teams also played in this round of the FA Cup last season where Gate came out on top beating them 3-2, however Gate were knocked out in the 2nd Qualifying round to City of Liverpool.

and is definitely not lacking experience, and they have had an excellent start to this season being unbeaten in their first two games so they are on good form and will be looking to cause an upset today.
The FA Cup is one of those trophies that every club dreams of winning, and even here at Squires Gate we want to compete the best we can and progress onto the next round as opposition gets tougher and tougher. West Didsbury are always a tough opposition to play against, they are a very solid side who can dictate the game so we will need to be on our best form if we want to get a result.
They will be looking to bounce straight back up after their relegation last season, and I wish them all the best for the rest of this season.
Tuesday night I feel we were very unlucky, Burscough made it difficult for us and we didn't react quick enough but I think the last 10 minutes of the game showed what we are about, we weren't scared to go forward and we came close to scoring a few times, but it just didn't fall for us. We have to give Burscough credit though.

WEST WELCOMING OUR OPPONENTS FROM WEST DIDSBURY West Didsbury and Chorlton AFC was founded as Christ Church A.F.C. in 1908, over 100 years ago, a Sunday School Superintendent at the church on Princess Parkway, West Didsbury. West played friendlies at first and then in the Manchester Alliance League until the First World War. After the War the club joined the Lancashire and Cheshire League for the 1920/21 season and had to change its name to West Didsbury AFC. The first honours were double runners up in Div 1 and Rhodes Cup in 1922/23, and the club remained in the L+C League until 2006. The home ground from before 1914 until the mid 1980’s was Christie Playing Fields, and then the owners, Manchester and Salford Playing Fields Society, gave the club notice to quit having decided to sell off the land for commercial development . A further name change followed in 2003 to reflect the new location in Chorlton and the club was then elected to the Manchester League in 2006. In 2007/08 West won its first Manchester League silverware lifting the Murray Shield in the last game of the club’s centenary year. That team was the nucleus of the previously successful junior team and the following season 2008/09 West just missed promotion to the Premier Division and again reached the Murray Shield Final. With new management team led by Andy Nelson, 2009/10 was successful and honours spread throughout the club. The 1st team won the Murray Shield, and was league runners-up. Two new stands were installed to improve spectator facilities and new grass pitches were laid out on adjoining land as part of the long term development plan. Further milestones in 2013-14 were the 2-0 home victory over Abbey Hey in the club’s first ever appearance in the FA Cup followed by a 2-1 first FA Vase victory away at NCEL
Rossington Main near Doncaster in mid September. Plans were also made to expand the clubhouse and spectator facilities at Brookburn Road. The season was to have a sad end with the death of club secretary Rob Turley, a man who had been involved with West Didsbury & Chorlton for over 40 years. But with a strong volunteer base and progress being made on and off the field, the club is in safe hands with a bright future ahead. 2016/17 saw the club finihsed in 6th place but finished with both a record points total and number of goals scored notching 106 league goals. The club also saw a record average attendance as almost 5,000 people attended matches at Brookburn Road with a club record 674 in attendance for the South Manchester Derby against Maine Road. In cup competitions West entered the Manchester Premier Cup defeating Radcliffe Borough and Glossop North End en-route to facing FC United of Manchester in the Semi Final’s which saw more than 200 West supporters travel to Broadhurst Park before West bowed out to the eventual winners. The following season saw the club continue to grow off the field as they registered their best average attendance in history with more than 7,000 people visiting Brookburn Road concluding with a record 865 for the South Manchester Derby against Maine Road in April. 2018/19 saw the clubs first relegation in 20 years as the club six year stint in the NWCFL Premier Division ended as they were relegated on the final day of the season. It marked the first time since 1999, when West were relegated to the second division of the Lancashire & Cheshire League, that the club had been relegated. Manager Steve Settle left the club in November with West having collected just nine points from their first 19 league games. The beginning of the 2019/20 season began with a restructuring of the football club with Steve Eckersley and Rob McKay replacing chairman Glyn Meacher as co-chairman.
MEET THE MANAGER
Brad Cooke West Didsbury appointed Brad Cooke as their manager on 5th June 2019, after being relegated from the Premier Division. Following the departure of Dave Powell, the club moved quickly to appoint a new manager following a short application process in which more than 30 candidates applied for the role. Cooke, 33, joined the club from Northwich Victoria whom he captained, as they reached the Semi-Finals of the FA Vase and lifted the Mid-Cheshire Cup. Prior to his stint with the Vics he made 265 appearances (scoring 40 goals from midfield) in a 6 year stint with Atherton Collieries which saw him lift the NWCFL Division One, Premier Division, Macron Cup and Evo-Stik League Integro Cup. So a fair bit of experience! His backroom staff includes Robert Sadler, and Warren Jones. Robert Sadler who also arrived from Northwich Victoria for whom he was the clubs goalkeeping coach. Sadler has previously spent time as goalkeeping coach with Ramsbottom United and Atherton Collieries as well as time with Atherton LR and Prestwich Heys as a player. Warren Jones also joined the club as First Team coach having previously been Assistant Manager at Atherton Collieries in which he oversaw the team’s promotion from the NWCFL followed by a spell as manager of Atherton LR. "The club has massive potential and I am delighted to have been given this opportunity. I want to say a massive thanks to the committee for putting their trust in me. Myself and my management team, will be doing everything we can to ensure this club gets back to where we believe it belongs. We want to ensure that we match the progression that has been made off the pitch. I am sure the fans will get behind me, my staff and players and I look forward to meeting you all very soon!" Brad said when he joined in June.

KRIS HOLT MIDFIELDER Kris arrived over the summer from Runcorn Linnets in the evostick. They were disappointed to lose him and it’s easy to see why. He’s looked a quality box to box midfielder. A midfield player who has experience always helps the team, and I think its something that gels the team together. Kris has been named as West Captain for this season and hope he can add his experience from the league to help them back to the NWCFL Premier Division.
MATTY BOLAND MIDFIELDER Matty joined West from Irlam, He’s is a creative midfielder who is handy on set-pieces and can be very dangerous in all area of the pitch as well. Having a good set piece taker is always a good addition to any club, and if we get any short range free kicks today then he will know where he wants to place it. He will create something out of nothing, and find attacking options so he is definitely a player to watch.
JAMES COTTEE FORWARD Having a handful of good strikers makes a good team even better, and can be a selection headache for the gaffer, James knows how to finish and can be lethal if he is given the opportunity. He is a striker to keep an eye on. He’s started the season really strongly and we’re hoping that is going to continue. He can definitely be a top scorer this season and has the ability to take us back up to the Premier Division.

VIEW FROM THE AWAY END GRAY ELLWOOD @graythesaddler Do you remember your first game? I was a Walsall season ticket holder for quite a few years and have travelled to most of the 92 football league clubs following them but after I moved to Manchester, I became a bit disconnected with the club and frustrated by the money involved and the treatment of fans in higher level football and started looking for something else. I still go to watch Walsall but I’m definitely a Krombacher Ultra now. My first West game was in 2015 against Atherton Collieries. Ash Woods gave West the lead late in the game but we somehow still managed to lose with the last kick of the game. Classic West.
.What has been your most memorable game watching West Didsbury? In 2017 we reached the semi-finals of the Manchester Premier Cup. We were drawn against FC United and took a good following to the game. We sang our hearts out and when we equalised to make it 11 the scenes were unbelievable. Unfortunately I can’t remember what the final score was… but that Matty Kay equaliser will live long in the memory.
You are the manager of a 5 a side team; you need to pick 2 West Didsbury players and 3 PL players. Who makes your What was it that made you want to keep going back as a fan? team? The work that the club have done over the past few years to make I’m going to put De Gea in goal for his shot-stopping even though I supporters feel valued has been superb and it’s a key reason why I don’t think he’d have much to save with this team. In front of him I’m was hooked pretty quickly. There’s been so many people involved in choosing the West duo of Josh Tinker and Lee Gavin. Lee Gavin for this but in particular Rob Mckay and Matt Durrant have grown the his work-rate and Josh Tinker for his rabona. Up front I’ll have Salah club so much and have made me want to become more involved. and Kane. Me and Steve Settle will be joint player managers. It’s a commonly used phrase but West really are a “community club”. As a supporter, I really feel like my support can make a difference. The NWCFL is always a tough league, but in your opinion who I’ve made so many friends from going down to Brookburn Road and is the toughest team to play against? there’s no place I’d rather be on a sunny Saturday. It feels like West have had a lot of tough opponents over the past couple of years but I always feel like Irlam are one of the toughest. If you were to pick one club to play in a pre season friendly, They always seem up for the challenge and I’ve seen us get bullied who would you pick and why? by them a few times. Prediction for today’s game? I think it’s going to be a good game. We know Squires Gate are a step up and it’s going to be a tough challenge to raise our game to that level but we’ve started the season well so while I still have rare West optimism, I’ll go for West to win 1-2.

This was as straightforward an opening assignment as new boss Cooke could possibly have wished for, with James Cottee, Jamie Forbes and Matt Eckersley all converting Matty Boland set-pieces to effectively seal the points by half time. Josh Tinker added a fourth late on to round off a comfortable win over an unravelling home side, who had Miles Johnson sent off for a crude challenge on Lee Grimshaw after 55 minutes. There will be sterner tests to come in West’s bid for an instant return to the NWCFL top flight but this was a ruthless and professional job well done, with Andrew Jones virtually unemployed in goal as Cooke’s side also recorded a clean sheet at the first time of asking. After a summer of change at Brookburn Road, Cooke named seven debutants for the trip to Staffordshire and his side swarmed over the hosts from the first whistle, with Boland, Forbes and Kris Holt all passing up opportunities inside the first 15 minutes. But West didn’t have to wait long to open their account for 2019-20, and it was a simple goal that set the tone for the rest of the half – after Lee Grimshaw, irrepressible on his West bow, did superbly to win a corner, Boland’s delivery was tapped into the net by fellow debutant James Cottee via Eckersley’s knockdown.

Celebrations were quickly cut short as the assistant flagged for offside, but the referee overruled the decision and awarded the goal, sparking frenzied protests from the home players and dugout. Pershall Park was simmering but West remained cool, Kris Holt going close again, and were rewarded with a third goal just before the interval. Boland again provided the ammunition from a setpiece, and this time it was Cottee who nodded the ball across goal for the unmarked Eckersley to steer into the net. It was no surprise when the home side were reduced to ten not long after the restart – Johnson departing the scene after flying in late on Grimshaw. The home side even played with nine for a period after Luke Lewis was invited to spend ten minutes in the NWCFL’s new sin bin facilities following a show of dissent. With the game effectively won and Wythenshawe Town visiting Brookburn Road on Tuesday, West slowed the game down after this flurry of incident but could have added further goals – Grimshaw and Gavin had shots well saved by McCarthy and Eckersley headed wide from close range.

Squires Gate suffered a second succesive defeat to leave them without a point in the NWCFL Premier Division. Gate made two changes to the side that lost away at Runcorn Town on Saturday. Mututu Chilufya moved to the bench to be replaced by Saturday's goal scorer Luke Noble. Midfielder Dean Ing missed out due to illness and was replaced by Ryan Charnley.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH Following the progress of our next door neighbours Wren Rovers, and fellow Fylde coast non league side Lytham Town. who play in the West Lancs League. Squires Gate, Wren Rovers and Clifton Rangers have recently formed a partnership on the Fylde Coast.

Wrens good start continued with a 4-3 home win against last years champions fulwood. A real end to end game which had the lot. Mistakes and moments of magic on a blustery night.
Lytham suffered their first game of season when they lost 1-0 to Poulton Town.
Lytham was disappoint with the lost but was with happy with the teams performance as they played 55 minutes All throughout the game was played at a with just 9 men. really high tempo but always in the right They held the game for a whole 85 minutes spirit. Wrens goals were from Carl East- with the 9 men they but will be disappointwood, nick Greenall with 2 and Ben ed when they conceded the only goal of Seear. Man of the match was nick the game with just 5 minutes of the game Greenall who put in a real box to box however they was still looking to earn a performance. point from the game right up to the final whistle. Lytham with be looking to bounce back Todays when they retuned home to face Fulwood Amateurs.

Superb young shop stopper that had a tremendous 2014/15 season. Kept numerous clean sheets and played every single minute of every single game. 2015/16 will be his 3rd season with the club where he'll be looking to continue his form from the previous season.

DAVE ROSSALL DEFENDER Dave Joined Gate in the 2016/17 season after manager
Danny Penswick finally secured his long term target. Davey is a ball-playing defender who likes to bring the ball forward and set up attacks from the back. Davey made his debut is Gates 3-4 defeat to Atherton Colls on Tuesday 1st September 2016. Dave returned to Gate after Christmas after a break from football.

JOSH WESTWOOD DEFENDER Josh was a rock at the heart of the defence during the 2014/15 season. He produced some fine individual displays and chipped in with a few goals. A quiet individual but very popular player that lets his feet (head) do the talking. Josh returned to the club at the start of the 2019/20 season after time away from the club where he sealed a double promotion. First he helped Lancaster City win promotion from the Evo Stik North before helping Garstang move into the Counties

James joined the club originally on a dual registration from Bamber Bridge alongside Hyuga Tanner. He played one game before being recalled by Brig. From there he joined fellow Evo Stik side Clitheroe and rejoined Gate. James has come into his own at the heart of the midfield showing his class on the ball and his workrate off it. James has shown his eye for goal getting himself on the score sheet.
Ryan joined the club half way through the 2017/18 season to bolster Andy Clarkson's midfield options. Comfortable across midfield or up front Ryan has good feet and a footballing brain. Ryan scored some key goals last season making 22 appearances with seven goals

Dean was signed by manager Danny Penswick ahead of the 2017/18 season. He was a long term target of the manager who was delighted to secure his services. Dean offers physicality and composure on and off the ball aswell as having an eye for goal. He can play in a number of positions including all across midfield and as a striker. Dean made his debut on Saturday 8th July in a 5-3 win against Anchorsholme FC scoring a second half hatrick. Dean made 40 appearances in the 2017/18 season scoring 9 goals.
Brad like Finley has put his pen to paper for another season but will also be loaned out to Wren Rover to help him developed more of his skills in Men Football

Ryan resigned for Gate at the start of 2018 to get some game time after suffering an injury at the start of the 2017/18 season at Bamber Bridge. Ryan made 17 appearances in the 2017/18 season scoring 3 goals.

MIDFIELDER Sam has also regained this season after joining half way though last season. He will be key for gate in the middle of the park just like his was last season and hope he can pair up with midfielder partner Dean Ing this like last season

STRIKER Mututu also resigned this season, he did sign last year but after few games drop out due to injuries. This season he’ll be hoping he can stay fit and fight for his place up front this season for gate.

Finley sign for gate again just season but he will be one of the several youngest that will have be loan to our neighbour Wren Rovers to help gain experience in the men’s game after played youth for many years.
Luke joined Gate at the start of pre-season, and proved to gate he should be given a chance in team. Luke has been playing most of his carer in lower league and feel he can make the move up this season . Luke has already scored 1 goals in his first two games this season.

Riccardo joined the club after being out of the game for the past couple of season. The striker has linked back up with manager Andy Clarkson who managed him at AFC Fylde.
Described as the right man for the job after Danny Penswick left the club, Andy returned to the Gate dugout part way through the 2017/18 season. In his first season at the club Andy guided Gate to a 10th place finish from the relegation places with his never say die attitude and management style. In his second season (Current Season) Andy has implemented a stylish passing possession based team which still carries his footballing ethics that Andy was bought up on as an ex pro.

Take the M6 to junction 19 then follow A556 westwards until slip road for the A533.after that Follow the A533 until roundabout , onto the industrial estate then turn right at the roundabout and take the exit for A5018 all the way to next roundabout. Once you reach roundabout bear left onto Wharton road to the top house pub and the ground is on your left.
If you don’t drive you can still get to the ground as the nearest railway is Winsford and from thier it will be about 21 minute walk to the ground Or you can jump a number of buses that run in Winsford and when get on and ask for either Wharton Road and Station Road

SATURDAY 29TH SEPETMBER 2018 Gate started the game well and could have gone ahead after just two minutes. A lung busting run from Ric Seear created space but his pass to Tarren Moxon was blazed over inside the box. The visitors themselves could have opened the scoring after six minutes but the tricky left winger headed straight at Ben Fletcher in goal. The visitors hit Gate on the break after Joe Booth’s low drive was blocked by the face of a West player, but they could only find Adam Sumner who calmly headed back to Ben Fletcher. Gate came close again when Ryan Riley knocked a lovely cross into Dean Ing but the ball was just too high for the midfielder. Gate’s best chance of the first half fell to stick Seear. The striker looked certain to score the header but was denied with a clearance off the line at the back post.
All afternoon Andy Clarkson’s men found themselves just missing that final bit of quality. Ric Seear played in Tarren Moxon at the restart but his ball was too heavy for the striker. On the hour mark Adam Sumner sent in a lovely freekick but Gate again couldn’t test the keeper. Whilst Gate probed and pushed looking for a winner West stood firm not allowing Clarkson’s men any joy. The blow for Gate came two minutes from time when West scored a late winner. A mazy run from midfield wasn’t picked up, the West man fed the ball through to Saul Henderson who made no mistake to fire past Ben Fletcher.

NWCFL NEWS NWCFL NEW BOYS ARE A HIT BOTH ON AND OFF THE FIELD It is
fair to say that NWCFL new boys Golcar United certainly made a big impression on Saturday as they not only won their first First Division North game as they hosted Prestwich Heys - but also saw an impressive 379 spectators through the gate. What is just as impressive is that attendance was third highest at Step 6 in the country and one of the overall highest from all of the non -league football played on Saturday. Joint Manager Ashley Connor was a proud man when we caught up with him earlier on Monday afternoon, "We were delighted, yes. It was a dream start for us, really, firstly for us to get the 2-1 win, then nearly 400 people watching. It was pleasing to get nearly 400 people watching and, to put a performance in like we did as well, it was a great start and hopefully it will continue. "We want to be competitive. We want to be at the top end of the table but, as it stands, we'll take it a game at a time and see where it takes us.We've a tough game on Saturday against Holker. We'd like to continue our good form but we're under no illusions that it's going to be tough task this season. "Ben and Alex won it; they had a great game on Saturday. In the first half especially, Ben caused a lot of problems on the right side. He took his goal really well, which got us off to a great start. "We started the game really well. The first half an hour of the game we were at fifty miles an hour. We started to tire a little bit, then Prestwich started to come back in the game and scored the equaliser. We then scored at a crucial time just before half time to make it 21."The second half was a lot quieter than it had been in the first half but, if somebody had told us Friday that we were going to beat Prestwich, who I think will be up there come the end of the season, 2-1 with nearly 400 people watching I'd have snapped their hand off!" Why we love the start of the Non-League season.. So here we are again, the summer is finally done and competitive football is back for us all to enjoy. As a football fan this is the time of year that we all love. It is the moment where anything seems possible, a battle for the play-offs or maybe even a push against all the odds for promotion. Nothing beats that feeling on the season’s opening day. Watching a raft of new signings take to the pitch, reconnecting with old friends after a long summer away and of course, tucking into a pre (and sometimes even post-match) pie. Personally, I feel as though this excitement at the start of the season is amplified in Non-League, more so than in the country’s higher divisions. Open any sports publication over the next few weeks and you will be treated to page after page of Premier League previews, analysing to the finest detail every single signing, formation and style of a play that a team could possibly adopt Sure it can be interesting but it means that when the season kicks off there are no unknown quantities. In Non-League the opposite is true. There is a reason why the overall conclusion of every single league is so hard to call, from down at the bottom of the pyramid to right up in the National League. Of course we go to great lengths to preview the leagues and over the past few weeks we have brought out a lot of material looking ahead to the upcoming campaign but in truth there are just so many aspects which make the new Non-League season so unpredictable. With unproven new signings, previously unknown managers and even entirely new squads taking to the field, nothing can beat the start of the Non-League season for excitement! Another Channel Island club! It was brilliant to see new Step 6 side Jersey Bulls take to the field for their first ever professional match at the weekend. They have followed Guernsey to become the second Channel Island club to enter the Non-League pyramid. Having spoken extensively to Guernsey manager Tony Vince over the last few years I have become well accustomed to the huge logistical challenges that are involved with running a side just a matter of the kilometres from the French coast. Early morning flights and accommodation need to be regularly booked, which certainly doesn’t come cheap, so I take my hat off to those behind the formation of the new club. Over the last few years Guernsey have managed to galvanise a brilliant level of support from within the island and I feel confident that Jersey will be able to do exactly the same!
