Susan’s Book of Fun & Games
A documentation of my collections of toys, games, and samplers made during the time of the Coronavirus lockdown. Photos and descriptions by Susan Hanes, 2020.
Susan’s Book of Fun & Games
Selections from my Collections of Children’s Toys, Games, Dolls and Samplers from the 19th—20th Centuries
Compiled by Susan Hanes while Sheltering at Home
During the Covid-19 Pandemic 2020
While sheltering in place during the Coronavirus pandemic, which began to impact the United States in March 2020, I looked for ways to make the weeks we were confined to home feel productive. I decided to dig into my collections of games, toys, and samplers and to record some of my favorite things, many of which I had found on our travels over the past 20 years. I have always been drawn to the Victorian Era, and particularly to the pastimes that might have delighted the children of that time. It was comforting to look back at the familiarity of the past while our present lives feel so alien and the future is still hard to imagine.
