Primary Insight

• With the help of observation we can conclude that the most prime problems faced by the doctors is not able to easily reach for the patients affected area.

• Most of the time the doctors have to bend awkwardly to examine their patients.

• This creates another problem as the doctor cannot maneuver the patient chair due to far reach of the patient chair’s position control buttons.

• The doctor need to move constantly to reach for his apparatus and equipments.

• Sometimes due to high rush of patients the doctor has to constantly work in this strenuous environment for hour which could result in fatigue and pain.

• They experience pain in knees, shoulders, back and arms.

• Due to awkward placement of the equipment’s the doctor faces problem while reaching for his examining equipments.

• Reachable controls for the patient’s chair and examining equipments from the doctor.

• Doctor’s chair and patient chair should be adjusted according to each other. It should not create any hindrance for the doctor while examining the patients.

• The patients should be within the 5th percentile reach of the doctor.

• The knee height of the doctor should be till 75 percentile from the ground.

Ideation

General Concept

With the help of primary insight and several ideations we came upon a basic concept for our stool. The concept is developed on actual anthropometric measurements of human sitting posture taken from normal distribution range i.e. dimensions lying from 25th percentile to 75th percentile of human measurements.

The marked region denotes the anthropometric measurements of the population lying within the range of 25th to 75th percentile by which the stool concept is developed.

Generative Design

Generative design is a design exploration process. Designers or engineers input design goals into the generative design software, along with parameters such as performance or spatial requirements, materials, manufacturing methods, and cost constraints. The software explores all the possible permutations of a solution, quickly generating design alternatives.

In this case we came up with different ideations for the lower half structure of the stool. Fusion 360 generative design provided us with the variable structure ideation of the lower half part based on the load, material and manufacturing parameter that were provided to the software. Thus we can easily compare different outcomes produced by the software and use the concept according to our need.

Final Concept

Asana is the perfect blend of Aesthetics + Functionality. The design of the stool is based on the form follows functions (FFF) principle i.e. we tried to use the structure of the stool as its appealing factor without using any other unnecessary element.

Simulation

We conducted the static stress and displacement simulation to make sure that our design is safe for the user to sit on it and would not break or displace when applying force on the stool.

Features

Ergonomic seat that conforms to the user’s body. It means the user can bend in any direction with the help of stools lateral movement without slipping from the seat.

Lateral Movement of the stool helps to extend the radius of the reach. For instance the doctor can easily reach his patients and equipments without too much bending.

The ease of the lateral movement can be adjusted by the help of the rotating knob. Thus the user can easily adjust the degree of freedom of the seat movement.
