Charlie Dixon, HND Animal Care

Charlie has been studying at the SRUC Elmwood Campus since he was 15. He first heard about the courses from a friend who had completed the NC Animal Care After attending an Open Day and a taster event, Charlie enrolled on the NC Animal Care course, and two and a half years later he is progressing well into the HND Animal Care

“The animal care facilities at Elmwood are great There is everything you need and it’s all very well organised The staff are more like friends than lecturers, it’s a good learning environment My favourite animals on the Animal Care Unit have to be the snakes and reptiles I also enjoy handling and looking after the small mammals ”

Having progressed from the very practical aspects of the NC level, on to HNC and HND, Charlie is enjoying the scientific aspects of the course.

“I really like the units that involve anatomy and microscope work I hadn’t considered going into that area of work before, but I would be interested in pursuing a career in a lab environment ”
