Megan MacLeod, HND Rural Animal Health
Megan is one of our first students enrolled on the HND Rural Animal Health, the first pathway course designed as a route into the BVSci Veterinary Science degree. Having come from a farming background and been surrounded by animals from a young age, Megan always knew that she wanted to work with animals.
"I chose to study at SRUC as they offer so many hands-on practicals within each course We have practical sessions nearly every 2 weeks which keeps the interest up as we aren’t just sitting in a classroom all day every day I would say my highlight so far would have to be the practical we did where we used water-based paints to paint on the skeletal and muscular systems onto a cow It was great fun to work together to get it onto the cow and very informative as it helped us to visualise more "
"SRUC have great facilities, the library is open throughout the day and is always quiet so you can get your work done They also have a great canteen area with good food offered every day, and great student support They also have a great vet skills lab where we go for our dissections
"I’m hoping to go onto the new BVSci Veterinary Science course after my two years on this course My back-up plan is to become a large animal veterinary technician "
And some final advice from Megan for future students? "Be yourself and enjoy every minute Speak up if you don’t understand something as someone else might be struggling too "
