Shannon McLauchlan, BSc (Hons) Rural Business Management

This course has allowed me to develop knowledge and key skills that I can utilise within the business environment and my career in the future.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the units offered within my course, especially Advanced Case Studies where I was able to go on field trips to real organisations and see how they operate in real life I was also able to meet industry professionals and ask advice on working within the industry which allowed me to put the theory I learned in the classroom into context I also really enjoyed all tourism units as I love to travel and celebrate/experience new cultures around the world "

"Throughout my studies at SRUC the amount of guidance and support I have felt from all teaching staff has been second to none, and diversity of teaching styles has allowed me to gain insight into different methods of working and learning, making each lesson really interesting and providing me with variety The staff are highly professional, enthusiastic and are very caring and understanding of circumstances Their outgoing approachable personalities ensures that us as students feel really motivated to reach our full potential and succeed with our studies whilst feeling very supported and listened to All lectures are dynamic and full of real-life examples and resources are engaging and very enjoyable to participate in, with significant emphasis placed upon instigating discussions in class allowing us to collaborate and work together to help everyone understand the topics fully "

And what advice does Shannon have for other future students? "My advice would be to try and stay as organised as you can as assessments are quite frequent, and make the most of your time management Don’t worry if you don’t catch something live, you can always go back over the recordings and take notes then by making use of the Kaltura feature as all classes are recorded, meaning you can return to them at any time that’s convenient to you You can do this!!"

Following graduation, Shannon accepted a position working in the Department of Infrastructure at Savills
