RURAL SKILLS

Our Rural Skills courses are aimed at schoolleavers who really enjoy working in the outdoors . They aim to take a broad approach and are an ideal starting point if you are not sure which career path to follow .

They will introduce you to many different topics and give you a wide variety of practical work such as estate maintenance, working with small-powered machinery, tractor operations, rural species identification, and working with livestock or animals

The courses can provide you with the experience, skills and knowledge to be able to make choices about your future career or future study within the landbased sector You will also develop your numeracy, literary, communication and customer care skills, and gain transferable employability skills which are desired by employers

There are opportunities for employment after the course, such as trainees or assistants in outdoor jobs The course may also provide a progression route to a National Certificate in subjects such as Horticulture, Forestry, Animal Care or Countryside Management, or a Modern Apprenticeship in areas such as horticulture, forestry, or agriculture

I heard about the course from some friends who had also studied with SRUC. They highly recommended it and my mind was made up upon speaking to the lecturers. It was a life changing experience for me; it gave me a focus and something to work towards, whilst also satisfying the desire to follow my passion in an outdoorrelated subject.
