LANDSCAPING
At SRUC we have several courses that look into the landscape, how it can be managed through the application of hard and soft landscaping techniques, and the technical landscaping skills required to ensure it is managed correctly .
The landscape that surrounds us can be modified in many ways, often by design, sometimes via anthropogenic pressures Landscaping makes use of earth and water, along with hard (such as stone, brick, gravel) and soft (such as plants and grass) features, to design, create and maintain an area of land Landscaping can relate to the modification of a park to make it more amenable to the local population, but it can also relate to the conservation of an area to reduce the impact caused through path erosion or other factors
The courses focus on landscape design, construction and maintenance You will gain skills in assessing sites, design, build and maintenance of these areas Hard Landscape practice includes: building techniques for elements such as walls, paths and drives, steps, timber builds including fences and pergolas, and other features The Soft Landscaping element of our courses includes plant identification and use, planting design and maintenance, soils, plant nutrition and protection and machinery use and maintenance
SRUC offers extensive practical facilities to support our landscaping courses including a large hard landscape workshop, extensive campus grounds, greenhouses, gardens, workshops, and landscaped areas We offer great links with industry; and work closely with bodies such as the British Association of Landscape Industries
