Diana Carel, HND Golf Course Management
Diana Carel, originally from Spain, studied Golf Course Management after developing an interest in sustainability in the golf industry following a career as a marketing consultant in housing and golf development
Diana came to Scotland, the Home of Golf, and gained valuable work experience at Carnoustie Links where she learnt more about the industry and what sustainability means to it “That was a gift for me”, she said “I learned so much about golf course maintenance and sustainability, that I wanted to know more ”
Diana then applied to study for an HNC and then HND in Golf Course Management at SRUC During this time she was also awarded the R&A Greenkeeper Scholarship to support her studies and network with over 400 other students around the world
Having been offered a job as a seasonal greenkeeper at the Old Course in St Andrews Links, she was then given a permanent greenkeeper position In 2022 Diana was appointed as Health & Safety Administrator for the Greenkeeping team at St Andrews Links Trust and is now actively supporting SRUC in its curriculum development of that subject area
“I am very happy because I can contribute to the wellbeing, health and safety of my SALT colleagues Studying at SRUC has offered an opportunity to start a new career”, she said “I gained a lot of new skills and now I’m confident enough to work and grow into the golf industry ”
“I am interested in sustainability but also in golf development and golf operations I think golfers are now more interested in the experience of playing on a golf course if it is sustainable, the situation of the course, and what it has to offer in terms of design, restoration, and leisure ”
