I also want to encourage various groups within the body to consider how we can offer Hope beyond the borders of Sulphur Springs. Baptist Global Response (BGR) is a part of the Southern Baptist Convention and through BGR we can actually contribute to the needs of people around the world. We can dig a well and provide fresh water; we can buy a goat, a cow, or a pen of chicks. There are resources that are available to people in developing countries to help them grow crops and even get medical help. If your Sunday School class or small group is interested in working together on one or more projects each year, let me know and I will help you get started. Finally, I want to encourage you for the kingdom work that is already underway. Over the past few months, I have heard of ministries that take place in the name of Jesus and I applaud the fact that you are imitating Jesus in our community by initiating ministry to those in need. I realize that Jesus tells us that we are to make our offerings and not let the left hand know what the right hand is doing, but I also know that Jesus celebrated the generosity of people who gave, even the widow’s mite. If you have a ministry project in your class, as a family or even as an individual, please let us know. We will not paste your picture on the front page of the newsletter but we do want to celebrate what God is doing through His people. Those around you will be encouraged by your faithfulness and generosity. We would like to celebrate what God is doing in and through His church, so please allow us to share in the ways that God is working through your lives. Offering Hope, Pastor Mark

As we move ahead, you need to know that there are multiple opportunities for you and your family to be a part of HOPE. The primary means of supporting HOPE is through your giving to the Hope Chest. Hope Chest allows the entire body of believers to take a small part of our abundance and use it to offer HOPE. If you buy one soft drink per day at the convenience store, think about giving up one soft drink each week and contribute the savings to the Hope Chest. If your family is looking for an opportunity to be a part of HOPE, try eating a simple meal at home instead of going out and add the excess to Hope Chest. The average family would probably bring $20 in what they saved. We will find that we can bring our tithes as well as an offering of Hope. I encourage you to sit down and whether you are a household of four or a household of one, to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to show you how God can use a small part of your abundance to help offer Hope to our community.

Mercy Ministries
...Offering HOPE
1TIMOTHY 6: 18-19: Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way, they will lay up treasures for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. Mercy Ministries has revamped in 2014, with new sign-up sheets and a focus on our four most utilized areas. We are providing assistance to the elderly and disabled within our church who could use assistance with transportation to Dr.’s appointments, grocery shopping, sitter services up to 4 hours to enable a caregiver to get out of the house for those who don’t require skilled medical care, light home maintenance (such as minor plumbing repair, changing air conditioning filters, smoke alarm batteries, building of wheelchair ramps and other minor repairs). Mercy Ministries is beginning its fourth year and it has been used consistently by some. However, I believe there is a much greater need out there and that it has been underutilized. I would like to encourage everyone who could benefit from these services to please call me. Please don’t feel like you are imposing on others. The people who sign up for this ministry sign up because they desire to help others. They are doing this voluntarily and when available, so you will not be imposing on them. You are giving them a chance to live out what the Word of God asks us to do and in doing that both you and they will receive a blessing. We all need help at some point in our lives and we are made for community. It is our responsibility to serve others and in so doing we are serving Christ. For anyone who may have missed the sign-up sheets in Sunday School, but are interested in serving in any of these areas please contact me. For assistance please call my cell phone at 903-439-5803, and if I’m not available, leave a message. You can also contact the church office if you lose my number and they will contact me.
Thank you for letting me serve you. In Christ’s love, Karen Northcutt
