“An Incredible Experience!” "When we first started, I was terribly in debt and we were just a few months away from bankruptcy. We started seeing a boost right away in our business, we took what Steve's given me and we just started implementing and implementing, and it's just totally transformed my business. Steve has helped me with my laser focus, he helps me implement, he's taken my business to a whole new level. We went from a half a million dollars to a million dollars in two years. It's just an incredible experience to know that where you think you're just dead and things are horrible, to now anything is possible. I can see taking this to a whole new three or four types of businesses -- it's going to be huge. Steve is all business, he is an unbelievably smart, brilliant man. I can't say enough about him. Everything he's told me, I've made so much money it doesn't matter what it costs. They don't make enough money in this world that somebody could pay me so I would stop listening to Steve. Steve is the exact reason why I have a retirement fund now. It's probably illegal how much fun I'm having!"

7 SIMPLE WAYS TO ATTRACT SHORT ATTENTION SPANS | JULY 2014

Simple Ways To ATTRACT Short Attention Spans By Matt Bacak

Attention spans are getting shorter as information and content of every industry are becoming more readily accessible. We want what we want, and we want it immediately. This is the age of instant access. On top of decreased attention spans, or perhaps a contributing factor to it, adults are stretched thin for time. Consider the average mother in American society. She goes to work from 9:00am and returns home at 5:00pm, if she’s lucky. More often than not, she may not get back home until 6:00pm. Once home, she has to run a kid to soccer practice or ballet class. Then after an hour of that, dinner has to be made. Homework time comes after dinner and the house needs to be picked up, clothes washed, dishes cleaned. When it’s bedtime for the kids, Mom and Dad are exhausted, but run a quick check of their email and social media accounts. They’ve only got a few seconds to spare. Sound familiar? The demand for your time is seemingly constant, and as an internet marketer, it’s something to consider when creating content for your list and/or customers. You’ve got to get to the point – and quick – before something or someone else comes along and grabs the attention of your prospective consumer. So what’s an internet marketer to do? 1. Keep it simple. 2. Use images when you can. Have you ever noticed how your eye is naturally drawn to images? That’s because almost all of communication is nonverbal, more than 90%. The 3M Corporation states that we process images 60,000 times faster than text. If that’s not a powerful motivator to use more images in your content, I don’t know what is. 3. Create headlines with maximum impact in mind. The headline might be the only thing the prospect reads before deciding to jump over to another site or page. Use action words that draw them in. 4. Consider the platform. If you’re on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc., you’re like most people. The trick to engaging people on all these sites is to remember that they are different sites and the audiences are therefore different. A Twitter audience is very different from a LinkedIn audience, so don’t write the same content for both. Tweak

your message to fit the platform you are sharing it on. 5. Mobile devices are king. Most people are viewing your content on mobile devices like cell phones and tablets. Adapt your content, if necessary, so that it is readable, enjoyable and eye-pleasing to mobile devices. It only requires a little extra effort to make your content mobile device friendly and it gives a huge payoff. It’s worth it. 6. Make it memorable. Whatever your posting needs to give a punch that will leave a lasting impression. 7. Think bite-size. Have you seen those “bite-size” snacks in the grocery store? They’re just like your favorite food – but just a little smaller, easier to carry around and with less calories – but they’re still the exact same food you like. Create your content with the idea that people can swallow the information quickly and easily. Write clear, concise sentences that get your point across quickly.

Use these tips and tricks to keep your content fresh and easily accessible to your prospective consumers, but keep an open mind about how you can give them more bang for their buck and keep them interested. Remember: They’re just like you. They don’t have all the time in the world, but if you present them good information in the right way, they’ll take a couple of seconds and give you their time. That’s all you can really ask for in today’s world.

WHY YOU SHOULD ONLY IMPLEMENT 10% | JULY 2014

Why You Should ONLY Implement 10% By Perry Marshall A lot of people feel GUILTY. All the time. Why? Because they have all these courses, books and training, and have gone to a bunch of seminars and haven’t hardly implemented any of it. Guilt. Blame. Self-condemnation. Well, if you’ve done NONE of it, you *should* feel guilty, and get your hind end in gear. But if you’re like most successful people, you’ve done 10-20%, and you’ve probably skimmed the best cream off the top. So if you lock yourself in your cave resolving to do the other 80-90% before you get more education, you’re violating 80/20. And you’re stuck. Case in point: In my office I have something like 1,000 books. I’ve read maybe 200 of them cover to cover. I still have yet to crack 200, and the rest I’ve only skimmed. That’s about right. That’s perfect 80/20 implementation. (It also means I’ve read several of them 5-10 times.)

“I’m not interested in learning much of ANYTHING that is going to be obsolete in a year. “

I could completely stop going to masterminds, stop buying books, stop buying courses and attending seminars for the next 5 years. I suppose, in theory, I’ve got so much existing material I could just coast on that. But I would never, ever do that. Ever. Here’s why:

1. I am ALWAYS watching for the opportunity to sweep a $1 million strategy off the table, in favor of a $10 million strategy.

2. The education and information I’ve collected to date reflects my state of mind in this year, last year, the year before, etc. It does not reflect the evolution that I must make next year and beyond.

3. Quantum leaps always involve rejecting the good in favor of the great. Almost

every quantum leap I’ve ever experienced has been a direct result of being with other people in a context of brotherhood and camaraderie and iron sharpens iron with highly competent, sharp people.

So when I go to a seminar or mastermind, if my mind is in top shape, I’m prepared to re-interpret everything I THINK I know in terms of some new, groundbreaking insight. I am actively looking for that insight. That’s how I keep my diamond-tipped saw blade sharp. That’s a strategy that will serve you well. By the way: Almost none of this has anything to do with “The internet is constantly changing” and all that hype. That is an extremely shallow reason. Yes, I could make that argument, but frankly I’m not interested in learning much of ANYTHING that is going to be obsolete in a year. And you shouldn’t either. Not unless you want to keep rebuilding your lame-o digital shanty town lemonade stand every six months for the rest of your life. That is NOT what this is about. This is about expanding your capacity to absorb and implement deeper principles, larger strategies, and become so AGILE that nothing can stop you. HOW TO MAKE YOUR MESSAGE “GO VIRAL” | JULY 2014

How To Make YOUR Message

“Go Viral” By Steve Sipress

24-hour cable news channels, social media websites and office breakrooms around the country have all been home to practically non-stop discussions about American soldiers over the past few weeks, from the VA scandal to the five-mass-murderer-terroristsfor-one-deserter deal we recently completed with the Taliban. Of course political scandals quickly generate a ton of buzz – a concept known as “going viral.” Here’s how YOU can generate powerful (and POSITIVE!) Word Of Mouth about you and your business, using your own Viral Marketing strategies. First, you should become familiar with some of the science around the study of “memes” and how humans spread ideas around and through society. That way you can understand what types of ideas spread the fastest through society, why they spread fast and how that affects consumerism. Thanks to the internet in general and social media in particular, memes now spread much faster and further than ever before. We all know that videos about cute kids and crazy cats can amass millions of views, but the question we care about as marketers is: How can I use this concept of Viral Marketing to create a lasting positive impression about myself and my company, products and services? People are more likely to try a new product or service when they feel protected and reassured by the masses. This is the concept Robert Cialdini called “Social Proof” in his must-read book for all marketers, “The Psychology Of Influence.” As an example of this “safety in numbers” concept: We are more likely to eat in a restaurant if it’s already busy. In other words, we assume that if lots of other people are doing something, then it must be okay for us to do, too. People are particularly susceptible to this principle when they’re feeling uncertain, which is why you should especially use social proof when you’re marketing your products or services to prospects who have never done business with you before. Viral Marketing is one form of social proof, where people eagerly and freely consume and spread messages, partially because so many other people have already done so. Social scientists have determined that spreading ideas is essential to the survival of a society, and have identified five main situations where this occurs:

1. Crisis 2. Mission

3. Problem 4. Danger

5. Opportunity

One important and powerful exercise for you to do when you set out to produce Viral Marketing is to create several messages for each of the five above categories. Then, to give your Viral Marketing messages even more pop, make sure to include at least one of these key elements that have the most viral potential of all: • Sex • News

• Unique Results • The Unusual

• Helping Others • Secrets

“Steve is all business. He is an unbelievably smart, brilliant, brilliant man. I can't say enough about him. Steve has put probably more, I would say, thousands, and thousands, and thousands of dollars... I mean, I probably can't even put a true figure on it, because it keeps coming back, and keeps coming back, just more and more money all the time.”

“One suggestion that Steve gave me, well, without question, put $300,000 more in my bank account. And we are going to be using it forever. This is not a one-time deal. We’re going to be using this idea that Steve helped us with... and we’ll be using it until it doesn't keep working like it is. And so, the value over time could literally be way over even the $300,000 number.”

The financial difference is considerable. We've probably close to doubled our revenues. We're on track now to do another close to $500,000 more than we did last year. So that's awesome. I do owe all of that to Steve.”

“LIVE GENIUS!” - EXPERT INTERVIEW WITH DR. WILL MORELAND | JULY 2014

LIVE GENIUS! Expert Interview with

WILL MORELAND Steve Sipress: Thanks for coming on, Will.

mentioned the word “genius” – you call it “Live Genius.” Can you tell my readers and listeners what you mean by the concept behind “Live Genius?”

Will Moreland: Steve, it is just a pleasure to be here with you. Thank you. We’re going to have a great time, man. Steve: We recently met at an event where a mutual friend just told me that I would be instantly impressed with you, and my readers and listeners would be, too. She said, “Man, he just took a business from nothing to like several million dollars in a matter of a few months” – or couple of years or something. So, how far off am I on that story? And however off I am, can you tell me the story of that? How’d you do that? Will:

You’re right on point. I had a company that I sold when I was living in Germany, and it was time for us to move back – my family and I – to the United States. So we sold off a company in Germany and literally were starting over coming back to the United States. So we moved to Arizona – a place that I had never lived before – and we started a consulting company. And really from the ground up, now four years later we’ve been blessed to see it now reach the multi-million dollar level. It’s been a lot of hard work, but moreso it’s just connecting with the right people, putting the right marketing in place and then getting into what I call “your genius spot” – just getting to a spot where you can add the most value to the most people.

Will:

What “Live Genius” stands for is to “Live In Victory Everyday while Getting Engaged In Unique Significance.” So with my experience of dealing with so many entrepreneurs over the years, we all deal with obstacles and we all deal which stresses of business and things like that. But what happened was, I found out that you just had to mentally determine that no matter what goes on, you are going to be in control of your attitude.

So the “Living In Victory Everyday” just deals with a person’s attitude. How are you going to approach life every day? Every day that you get to wake up, how are you going to view life? No matter what happens, no matter what obstacles that you face, how are you going to view that? So that’s where the “Live In Victory Everyday” comes from.

The “Genius” part came from studying so many… I’ve read over 500 books of successful people – their biographies, their books – and I came back with a few principles that have been around forever. But what I found was people that really focus in on their natural ability and really focus in on their natural gifting, their skill set, they are the ones that are successful in life. But not only successful, I found that people that are fulfilled in life are those that engage in significance – not just success.

When you look at success, Steve, I kind of look at success as more of a personal endeavor – the car I drive, the clothes I wear, the house I live in. That is more personal. But when you start talking about being significant you’re really talking about “How

And I think that’s the story of any business. If you get into that sweet spot and add value, you start to see good things happen. So that’s what’s been happening with us, and we’re just excited to be along the ride.

Steve: I love it. You just said some magic words that fans and followers and readers and listeners and me know that I often have a saying. I explain to people that I wake up every morning, and all I think of is, “How can I add more value to people’s lives?” So I think that is what we instantly hit it off and connected, because you’re on that same mission. In fact, you have a mission right now to help people that you call – you just

“LIVE GENIUS!” - EXPERT INTERVIEW WITH DR. WILL MORELAND | JULY 2014

“So we not only want to be doing things that we’re passionate about, but we want to be doing things that are going to make a significant difference in our environment.” much impact can you have out in the world? How much impact can you have? So we not only want to be doing things that we’re passionate about, but we want to be doing things that are going to make a significant difference in our environment. So when you put that together, it’s an attitude towards giving your best self to the world.

paint a false picture, like bad things don’t happen to me. But at the same thing, if you think negative of the bad thing that’s happening to you, that just compounds the negative. So I just try to sit back and say, “Okay, what’s the good in this situation?” or “How can I view this, and what’s the positives?” And I just decided to look at life from that perspective.

Steve: I love it. And again, I can see why we instantly connected. Every time I just look at your Facebook page, you are unbeatably positive, motivating, invigorating. What’s your secret? How do you stay so positive and motivating all the time?

Steve: People know that I help entrepreneurs, business owners with their marketing and growing their business with marketing things. Why don’t you tell my listeners or readers how you help business owners, entrepreneurs, organizations?

Will:

Will:

One of the training programs that a lot of the companies order that we deal with is the “Genius Living Program.” In this “Genius Living Program,” we cover the five specific areas that I really think cover everyone’s life: Faith, Finances, Family, Future and Focus.

When we talk about a person’s faith, whatever you may be, that’s an intricate part of your life. When we talk about your finances, no matter what side of the track you’re on, finances are important and they directly impact how we go through life, how we experience life. When we look at your family unit, your family unit is very important. That’s your number one team. When you look at focus, the focus

I really think it’s my perspective, and how I approach everything. I know every day is not going to be exactly how I designed it. I know obstacles are going to occur, but what I found out over the last 20 years, you can bemoan, you can complain or you can really take a step back and ask yourself about every situation, “What can I control in this situation? Well, I can control my attitude, I can control how I’m going to think about this thing.” And for me, Steve, I’ve really found out that when I’m positive, I think better and I respond better. I’ve never had a positive outcome thinking negative about a situation. And so one of the things that I do, from going to bed at night, I always try to watch some comedy, and when I wake up in the morning, I read something positive. What goes in actually does come out. When you squeeze the orange, whatever is on the inside, that’s what’s going to come out.

So I literally try to feed myself with positivity, surround myself with positive people. You can’t determine who you’re going to deal with day-to-day out in the world. But in my inner circle, it’s filled with positive people, positive thinking people. People like you – people that want to progress, people that see what’s going on in the world. And you could either choose to complain about it, or you can choose to do what you can to change that situation.

So by doing that over the years, it’s just what’s in me. And once again, that’s not… I don’t want to

Volume II Number 4 | Pg 7

“LIVE GENIUS!” - EXPERT INTERVIEW WITH DR. WILL MORELAND | JULY 2014

area is you personally – your career, your health, how you just approach life. Then when we talk about future, that’s talking about, once again, significance in the legacy that you’re going to leave on this planet.

So I believe that if you bring all these areas into harmony, you’re going to really be living the “Genius” life. So we help our clients and organizations that we work with, we help them with blueprints and we help them with systems and strategies to put in place that help them cover these five important areas that allow them to put their life in the harmony.

Steve: I want to put you on the spot here. I’m well-known, and I say it all the time, that the reason I’m in front of the room with a group, or the reason I’m leading and teaching people marketing is basically because I have made more mistakes in my marketing and more errors in my business than anybody.

In fact, I believe in failing fast and failing my way to success. I have made the wrong hires, and gotten in the wrong partnerships, and I have missed out on opportunities, and used the wrong software, and invested in the wrong things, and I’ve done all kinds of mistakes and messed everything up. But I am the sum of everything that’s happened to me, and I use all that to my positive.

I know that’s your philosophy, too. So could you share with our audience – I know I’m putting you on the spot, so if you don’t want to, don’t. Could you share some major leadership or business mistakes you’ve made, and if so, tell my audience what you learned from it?

MANNY’S BLOG | JULY 2014

HASHTAG You’re It!

Manny’s Blog

I’ve got a bone to pick with Wikipedia. The popular online collaborative encyclopedia begins all its descriptions of social media sites with“A site where PEOPLE…”or“A platform for PEOPLE to…” or some such. Hey, what do I look like – chopped liver? (Okay, maybe I do look like chopped liver in that DMV photo some joker posted on Flickr, but I’d had a rough night.) Your favorite canine is also a big user of social media, although I’ve had several misunderstandings and misgivings. Since on this blog you’ve come to expect only the best information, I’m going to give those bozos at Wikipedia some things they should be adding to their site. • My grandfather actually invented MySpace. Well, in his case it was MySpaceGrrrrrrrrrrr! If he had been more concise, the family might be rolling in money, instead of in, well, you know. • Speaking of Flickr and Instagram and similar services, another of my ancestors invented the “selfie.” Well, YOU might call it “a nose print on the window glass,” but WE still hold our tails high. • I’m quite a fan of Facebook. I wonder if they’ll ever optimize Facebook for cats? Instead of a “like” button, they could have “Tolerate,” “Mew,” and “What have you done for me lately?” • Multiple-player virtual game worlds? Yeah, I spend a lot of time on World of Fetch-craft. Shorted out the keyboard a few times before I learned how to use the MOUSE to mark my territory. • Twitter. Yeah, I use it some, although the “140-character” limit can be claustrophobic. 140 characters? That’s about like the family tree of my pal, Mutt McMuttson. “Catzilla” next door is the original “cat that ate the canary,” so I have to be careful about “tweets,” lest he get any bright ideas. • LinkedIn is a great site for business and professional networking. Employers can list jobs and search for potential candidates. I don’t like to brag, but my Steve and Michele pioneered that. (“Who wants to go for a walk? Who wants to go for a walk?”) • Pinterest provides an online pinboard for organizing and sharing things you love. You can arrange things for hours and hours. And if you DO get bored, you can always start a board with “Sofa Cushions I Have Shredded.” • YouTube, I’m not so crazy about. I used to like the cute kids and squirrels on water skis, but someone keeps cluttering it up with clips of the Disney Channel’s “Dog With A Blog.” Hmph! I ought to post some clips of that show myself, with a soundtrack from the Eagles (“Johnny-come-lately, the new kid in town…”) Anyway, that’s it for this month. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #DeathToTheCatNextDoor.

Manny (full name “Emanuel” or “Dog With Us”) is Steve and Michele Sipress’ crazy, rambunctious cocker spaniel. He has a weak leg (despite a mostlysuccessful back surgery), grey hair, is totally deaf and partially blind. But he still enjoys barking at the mailman and landscapers, pulling dead frogs out of nearby ponds and chasing after his beloved squeaker toy. He loves everyone (even the mailman and landscapers), and everyone loves him. Volume II Number 4 | Pg 9

5 REASONS NOT TO BUY AN EMAIL LIST | JULY 2014

5 Reasons Not to Buy An Email List It can be tempting to purchase a list of 10,000, 100,000, or even 1,000,000 email addresses. It’s like an instant business in a box, right? Not so fast… In fact, buying an email list is generally not a good idea for a number of reasons. There can be some serious consequences that could cost you a lot more than the amount you invested in the list purchase. Here are the Top 5 reasons why you should NOT buy email lists. 1. Legal Implications We all know about the CAN SPAM law. And while it technically does NOT say that you cannot send to people that you don’t know, it DOES allow recipients to report suspicious messages as spam. Too many of those types of reports can cause you some serious problems (NOTE: Each violation under U.S. law allows for fines up to $16,000.) 2. Your Email Program May Get Shut Down If you’re using a commercial email service provider, you can almost guarantee that buying lists will get your account shut down… IMMEDIATELY. If you’re using your own dedicated resources, there’s a good chance your hosting provider will shut you down for too many spam complaints.

3. Reputation Most “purchased” lists also include spam traps and bad addresses, which can be reputation killers! In addition, these things will cause you to wind up on blacklists, which will cause your messages to be blocked at the source. Let’s say that you DO happen to find a high quality email list, with no spam traps, few bad addresses, etc. Since these people do not know you, have a relationship with you, etc., you are still going to have a much higher spam complaint rate. High complaints can get your IP address blacklisted and even hurt your domain reputation with some providers. Simply changing an IP address in this case will not help. NOTE: A poor IP reputation impacts all mail sent through the IP address(es). 4. Waste of Resources Buying lists not only wastes your money, but also your time. Regardless of the list quality, the response rate is going to be very low. To illustrate this in another way… We’ve had customers in the past that have launched a new “brand” within their company, and when they immediately send to their existing HOUSE list using a different company/from name, their open rates plummet and their spam complaints jump (and that’s from a list they have built organically and have a relationship with. They simply didn’t make a warm introduction to the new company/division).

5 REASONS NOT TO BUY AN EMAIL LIST | JULY 2014

“Most “purchased” lists also include spam traps and bad addresses, which can be reputation killers!”

Likewise, we’ve seen this happen when a company is sold. All of a sudden subscribers start seeing messages come from someone they don’t recognize. Open rates drop and complaints go up. 5. There Are Better Alternatives to List Building There are legitimate ways to build a list of subscribers that actually WANT to hear from you. Here are 7 ways that you can get subscribers that are both less expensive and more effective: • Joint venture/affiliate swaps (Trade emails and/or product promotions) • Sponsored emails (you pay for an ad in someone else’s newsletter and drive people to your landing page) • Facebook Ads (If you DO have a purchased list, try uploading to Facebook and advertising there) • Pay Per Click Ads • Media Buys • Direct Mail • Inbound Content Marketing The bottom line is that there is no “easy” button when it comes to email list building. The best lists come from building lists legitimately and over time. These are the subscribers that are most likely to read your emails, take advantage of your offers, and refer you to other customers.
