Travelling by Bus from Cornwall The College Bus Scheme City College Plymouth provides a subsidised bus pass for full-time students to use on either First or Western Greyhound bus service to Plymouth, mainly from the Liskeard, Launceston and Looe areas. Timetables are available from www.westerngreyhound.com or www.firstgroup.com/ukbus. If you live in another area of Cornwall and wish to apply for the pass, you need to contact the Collegeʼs Student Funding or Student Services teams in the first instance to confirm if you live in an area supported by the bus services. For Saltash residents, see page 4. Students aged under 19 should apply to Cornwall County Council in the first instance, if on a vocational course (ie NVQ, BTEC award/diploma). This subsidised pass costs £270 which is payable in full on application. Western Greyhound buses from the areas listed above travel into Plymouth City Centre, where students can then catch one of the free bus services (36 and 26) to and from College. Students will be able to use this pass throughout the day on any timetabled Western Greyhound bus route from their home location to Plymouth. The pass will be valid until 31 July 2012. Please note the College cannot refund any travel costs incurred whilst the pass is being created.

How to apply Application forms are available from the Student Services helpdesk or from the Student Funding team. Your form must be returned to the Student Funding team with your full payment and a passport sized photograph.

Cornwall County Council Subsidised Travel Full-time students who live in Cornwall and cannot undertake their chosen course closer to home may be entitled to a subsidised pass from Cornwall County Council.* The cost is £297 (which can be paid termly at £110, £110 and £77). For more details or an application form please contact Cornwall college transport team on 0300 1234 101 or visit www.cornwall.gov.uk/collegetransport. *If you are declined support from the council, please contact the College. We may be able to provide some transport assistance, subject to certain criteria.

Travelling by Bus from Devon The College Bus Scheme City College Plymouth provides a subsidised bus pass for full-time students to use on all public First bus routes mainly from the Ivybridge, Kingsbridge and Tavistock areas. Timetables are available from www.firstgroup.com/ukbus. Students aged under 19 should apply to Devon County Council in the first instance. The cost of the College subsidised bus pass is £270, which is payable on application. Passes will be issued on a termly basis subject to the student still being active on their course. First bus routes travel into Plymouth City Centre, where students can then catch one of the free bus services (36 and 26) to and from College. Students will be able to use this pass throughout the day on any timetabled First bus route home. This pass can be used during the academic year, seven days a week. Please note the College cannot refund any travel costs incurred whilst the pass is being created.

Devon County Council Travel Assistance Travel assistance is available for full-time students aged 16-18 (as of 31 August) who live within Devon County (but not in Plymouth or Torbay). The bus pass could cost a maximum of £500 for the year* (some concessions apply). For more information please contact Devon post-16 transport team on 0845 155 1019 or visit www.devon.gov.uk/school_transport. *If you are declined for this pass, or charged over £270, please contact the College. We may be able to provide some transport assistance, subject to certain criteria.

Travelling by Bus from Plymouth and Saltash The College Bus Scheme City College Plymouth provides subsidised bus passes for full-time students aged 16-18 (as of 31 August 2011) who live within the Plymouth City boundaries and in Saltash. Students applying from the PL3 to PL6 areas (excluding St Budeaux) will be issued with a Plymouth Citybus pass. Students applying from PL7, PL9 and PL12 will be issued with First bus group pass and will need to provide a passport sized photograph. To qualify, students must live not within walking distance of the free bus services. Travel assistance will be means tested on household income and subject to attendance and other sources of funding available to the student. The contribution is to be paid by the student before the pass will be released. Income <£20,817 £20,817 - £25,521 £25,521 - £30,811

How to apply Students are required to complete the 16 - 18 discretionary Learner Support (dLS) application form, which are available from the Student Services helpdesk or Student Funding team, or from the City College Plymouth website. Your form needs to be returned to the Student Funding team, along with the relevant income evidence and payment, and passport photograph if required. The pass will only be issued once the student is enrolled. You are advised to apply early to ensure your pass is ready as close to the start of the academic year as possible. NB Priority will be given to students who apply before 23 September 2011. Students may have to pay some travel expenses until their pass is ready - the College does not refund these costs whilst the pass is being created.

Discounted Travel for Students • Full-time students up to the age of 23 can request a child fare for travel on all Plymouth Citybus routes within the city boundary after 9.30am Monday to Friday. Before 9.30am an adult fare will be charged. You may be asked to show your to prove your age or that you are in full-time education.

• Citybus offers City College Plymouth students 10% discount off their seven, 28 and 90-day bus passes. • Students can also purchase a number of weekly, monthly or season tickets from First bus, which offer better value for money. Free Bus Services To use the FREE services listed below you will need to produce your City College Plymouth student ID card when boarding the bus. If you do not present this ID you will be charged the normal applicable rate for your journey.

No 36 - Shuttle Bus Stop A6 bottom of Royal Parade This FREE shuttle bus service links the City Centre with Kings Road and Goschen. The service runs at various times of the day and is available during term-time only. A timetable for this service is included on page 6, but may be subject to change. Please check the running time before you travel as some buses do not run through to Goschen.

No 26 You may travel free of charge between Plymouth City Centre, Kings Road, Goschen and St Budeaux on Citybus Service No 26 from Monday to Friday between 7.00am and 7.00pm during the academic year (except Christmas break and August). For students travelling to Goschen in the morning, the service 26 is a quicker and more direct route from the City Centre. Copies of the Citybus timetables are available from www.plymouthcitybus.co.uk.

REMEMBER! You must show your student/staff ID to travel on the free services.

Cycling to College The College has Green Travel Policy which aims to reduce the environmental impact of student and staff transport. Free bicycle lockers and hot showers are available to cyclists at Kings Road and Goschen. A small deposit is required for this service. Secure bike lockers are available at a cost of £5 per year. Please contact our Estates office on 01752 305722 for more information on how to obtain a locker key. Showers facilities are located at Kings Road on the fifth floor of the Tower Block, in the student accommodation area of the hospitality building, on the ground floor of the Innovation Centre, in the Sports Hall changing rooms, and on the first floor of the construction building. The showers at Goschen are in C block.

Driving to College There is limited free parking available to students at Kings Road and Goschen. There is also some ʻon streetʼ parking at all centres, but some areas are for residents only. Disabled parking is located by the main entrances at both Kings Road and Goschen. There are some designated areas for motorcycle parking too. The College encourages car sharing where possible, and can advise about where to advertise or look for car-sharing opportunities.

Travelling by Train Both Kings Road and Goschen are within easy reach of Plymouth始s mainline train station. The College free bus stops just outside the station (in term time), and takes just a few minutes to get to either site. There are also smaller stations within walking distance from Kings Road (Devonport) and Goschen (Keyham). Train times and fares are widely accessible along with details of various discounts and railcards at www.nationalrail.co.uk.

Discounted Train Travel Devon and Cornwall Railcard This offers residents of Devon and Cornwall (aged 16 or over) a third off most standard class off-peak and off-peak day train tickets across Devon and Cornwall, including PlusBus tickets. Discounted tickets can be used for travel on First Great Western, South West Trains and Cross Country services. The Railcard costs £10 per year and you can apply for this at any staffed station. For further details visit www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/railcardsdiscounts/railcards_regional.html.

National Railcards The 16-25 railcard gives you a third off most rail fares throughout the UK, including all standard and first class advance fares for an amazing price of £26. To be eligible for a 16-25 railcard you must be aged 16-25, or a mature student (26 years or older and in full-time study). You can buy these Railcards online or in person at a staffed station.

First Great Western Offers • Devon and Cornwall Carnet Purchase a book of ten peak-time return tickets for the price of nine for travel on some of their most popular routes in Devon and Cornwall. The tickets are valid from any station in Devon and Cornwall to Plymouth. All ten tickets are valid for one month from the date of purchase and offer great value for money if you make regular journeys. • Part-time season ticket Valid for three out of five weekdays, plus weekends, for any period from one month to one year. Simply tell First Great Western which days you intend to use your ticket at the time of purchase to take advantage of this great new product.
