Employer Endorsement Scheme

Creating Positive Partnerships

What’s it all about? City College Plymouth has excellent working relationships with employers across the City and wider region. These relationships have been further developed through the introduction of the College’s Employer Endorsement Scheme. The Scheme, which was implemented in 2009, set out to build upon our existing positive relationships with employers and to inspire and encourage students by providing them with opportunities to engage with industry. The Employer Endorsement Scheme now has over 40 members, from all sectors of industry, from multi-national corporations through to sole traders operating within the City. All our members have an opportunity to be involved in the development of our curriculum to ensure that the training provided by the College is required by businesses and that it enables: • students who are work-ready • a labour market which is skilled in the areas required by the local economy. The Scheme, which is free to join, supports the College’s strategic agenda, which focuses on enterprise, employability and opportunity. The Scheme provides students with access to work placements, work-based projects and industry visits and talks, all of which enhance and enrich academic study, leading to students gaining a real understanding of the world of work and supporting us in preparing students for employment or further training. We look to recruit high calibre individuals to work at The Duke of Cornwall and the College’s students are a fine example of this. We recently recruited a new member of our team from the College and their qualifications and enthusiasm were clear to see. We are delighted with the progress Frazer, our new Commis Chef, has made since joining the hotel in June. Our close working relationship with the College is immensely beneficial to us. It not only allows us access to students like Frazer, which helps to develop our workforce, but also enables us to inform future curriculum development and obtain training that is relevant and up-to-date for our existing workforce. Jonathan Morcom, Director, The Duke of Cornwall Hotel

Our Partners Employer Endorsement Scheme members can be found across all industry sectors and range from small enterprises through to large, international corporations. What they all have in common though is the desire to support learners and engage with the College in order to facilitate a real, working relationship between the commercial world and education.

What our Employer Endorsers say‌ The sport and leisure industry requires people who not only have excellent professional qualifications but also high levels of enthusiasm, commitment and motivation. City College Plymouth works hard to ensure that its students gain not just academic awards but great employability skills, which really add value to employers. David Greenwood, Contract Manager, Everyone Active

Joining the scheme has been a great bonus to us as a company as we have found it difficult in the past to recruit people into our industry. The College helped us identify a number of engineering students who, following a work experience placement with us, we were able to select two students who have now joined our team on a three-year Apprenticeship. Jude Whitford, Director, Pepper Communications

Interserve Construction Ltd is proud to be working in partnership with City College Plymouth in order to enhance the learning experience of its Professional Studies students. Through seminars, workshops and site visits, students are gaining a greater understanding of the industry and the career opportunities that exist within it. Richard Ellis, South West Director, Interserve Construction Ltd
