What’s On Offer
What’s On Offer Supporting Business Growth and Success
Wide Range of Business and Commercial Services
Training can often be the first port of call for businesses looking to achieve cost-savings during times of economic uncertainty, but for anyone considering cutting their training budget, it is worth first considering how learning and development can support business and organisational success.
From National Vocational Qualifications to Apprenticeships, and short courses through to a range of business essentials workshops and seminars, professional study and higher level skills, City College Plymouth can help support the development of your workforce.
Delivering Quality and Affordable Training
Many of our courses are accredited by nationally recognised awarding bodies, including NEBOSH, CMI and City & Guilds. Training and courses offered by us, which are accredited, are highlighted throughout this guide.
We understand that businesses need access to the very best training and development practices for their teams in order to enhance organisational competitiveness. City College Plymouth can support you in accessing training and development, which is not only of a high quality, but is also affordable.
This guide provides an overview of the services we offer to businesses, but is not exhaustive, as we are able to provide bespoke training and courses to meet your individual employer needs. It is designed to help you find the right training for your business and to highlight the other commercial services we are able to offer, including print, corporate hospitality and facility hire. If there is training that you need to support your business success and we don’t appear to offer it within this guide, just call us on 01752 305026 or e-mail employers@ cityplym.ac.uk and we will endeavour to assist you.
We have access to government funding, which can significantly subsidise training costs - sometimes up to 100%. Our nonsubsidised courses are competitively priced too, as we know just how important it is for you to gain real value for money.
Bespoke Training Programmes We acknowledge the fact that the financial implications of undertaking training feature high up on your agenda, but we are also aware that you require training to not only provide you with a workforce who can gain nationally recognised training and qualifications but also to meet your specific business needs and objectives. This is why we offer a fully bespoke service to clients, working with you to produce a training programme, which really adds value, by supporting workforce development and business success.

A good foundation in literacy and numeracy is essential in life and even more so in the world of work. We can support your workforce in improving their maths and English skills so they gain in confidence and competency - and they are FREE!
“This is of great benefit to the business, especially at a time when the business is working through the biggest change to working practices I can remember. It is important that all employees develop their skills, and for many Skills for Life is the first step on that path.”
Ian Watson, Union Learning Representative at South West Water, worked with City College Plymouth to develop a Skills for Life programme, which would improve literacy skills whilst developing a greater understanding of health and safety in the workplace. Ian commented: “The benefits of Skills for Life are immeasurable as it removes fears and long held beliefs about a person’s own ability. I have seen first-hand how people who have lacked confidence have become more confident when all they needed was extra support.” Ian continued: “On completion of this course I have seen a real increase in the self-confidence of individuals, which has motivated them to enrol onto other courses, and has enabled them to really improve their communication skills and levels of confidence.

NVQ Certificates and Diplomas
NVQ Certificates and Diplomas Funding Currently Available!* Delivered mainly in the workplace, these qualifications support the changing operational needs of industry, which now require a much more flexible approach to training. Employees undertaking a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) are fully supported via the College’s team of professional, industry specific assessors. With funding* currently available to support NVQ training, why not see what NVQs could offer your business? The Duke of Cornwall’s Director of Operations, Jon Morcom, is certainly a fan of NVQs: “Since we started to use City College Plymouth for our training, staff turnover has reduced dramatically. Staff who are undertaking NVQs feel that they are valued and that they have something to aim for in terms of progression - they see employment with the Duke of Cornwall as a career rather than just a job.” *Funding available subject to criteria

City College Plymouth offers a wide range of opportunities to help you enhance the capacity and talents of your workforce by engaging with cost effective university-level training and development. Working in partnership with employers, we have carefully designed and constructed courses that meet the needs of business which are practical, relevant and industry-led. Our wide range of higher education courses support the next generation of business leaders and managers - helping you to grow your own from within, and giving you a secure base from which to plan the future growth and development of your workforce. Higher education (HE) short courses are part-time, universitylevel courses which can be tailored to your business. They allow individuals to develop higher level skills to support their careers without having to commit to a full qualification. In partnership with Plymouth University, we can also offer HE modules from any of our full or part-time foundation degrees, or develop new modules to specifically meet your needs. On successful completion of a university approved HE short course students are awarded credits, which may be used towards other higher education qualifications.

Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships ... adding real value to your business! Would your business benefit from an individual who is committed, enthusiastic and keen to learn new skills? An apprentice could be the answer! Apprentices bring many benefits to employers and can help make your organisation more effective, competent, productive and competitive by directly addressing your skills gaps. Apprenticeships are not only found across traditional industry sectors - such as construction and engineering - but across all sectors including customer service, administration and service industries.
We are pleased to announce that we are now able to offer higher Apprenticeships (level 4/5) in addition to our existing intermediate (level 2) and advanced (level 3) Apprenticeships, in a number of areas. If you are considering recruiting a new member of staff or perhaps promoting staff that may require Apprenticeship training, contact us to find out more on 01752 305026.

Employability Skills
Employability Skills City College Plymouth works closely with local, regional and national employers as a training partner and through our highly successful Employer Endorsement Scheme. Building upon the excellent relationships we have with industry we have introduced a new service, theworkspace, which aims to further support the employability agenda. It has become ever more critical to ensure that our students gain additional skills in order for them to compete effectively in the labour market - theworkspace supports this by offering a range of activities to students and staff, including work placements, industry talks and site visits. As an employer you can afford to pick only the very best for your organisation - City College Plymouth is ensuring that its students are exactly that - the very best! The new centre, which is located at our Kings Road site, offers a range of activities to encourage students to achieve, including: •
great communication skills
•
the ability to work as part of a team
•
self-confidence and self-worth.
Members of the College’s Employer Endorsement Scheme have provided incredible support over recent months theworkspace now aims to take this support further by encouraging even greater working partnerships, which will benefit our students and ultimately you, the employer. If you would like to get involved please contact us on 01752 305026 or e-mail employers@cityplym.ac.uk.
“The College’s focus on embedding the skills so desired by employers into their courses and training is a real business benefit to us - it ensures that students leave the College work ready and with the skills we need to achieve business success in an increasingly competitive market.” John Bunker, Regional Director - Balfour Beatty
